Darius, thinking of you across the world and hope you are well.
Somewhat serious posting
Most importantly, will your new trees and shrubs fit at the place you're looking at??????
If not, maybe it isn't the right place. Who knows???
I sure hope you find something you like soon, even if it's not permanent right now.

Sometimes a move is an opportunity to try some new plants, and meet some new people.
My Dad was in the service, so was my first husband. I saw so many things I would never have seen (ex: The Berlin wall), met people I would never have met (ex: my 2nd hubby). I know moving is totally stressful- but maybe this is a good thing, too. Uncertainty can be nervewracking, but I always enjoyed most of the places I went, once I got there.
And no matter where you go--you'll always have DG!!

yes, yes, . . . we are a family!
After a couple months of agony, I have finally found a place to live! I will be moving about the middle of October into a walkout basement apartment in a large house on a creek about 6 miles from here. It's small, so I will have to downsize a lot of my stuff, but I think I will be fine there, at least for now. I will hate to give up my 8' dining table and 10 chairs... may just store them and not plan on company dinners of any size!
My apt. faces the rushing creek so I will have the continual sound of water, and there is an area I can garden. Unfortunately it will be just shady gardening, and I'm choosing to see this place as semi-permanent.
Here's a couple of pictures. The house, owned by a landscaper from Mississippi, is being totally renovated. I have some work to do before I move in, mostly damp control but as he gets gutters, etc. re-installed, it will improve.

Yahoo! I am so glad you found something. Look at that creek! I know it is a common sight for you all but it make a southern CA girl sigh to see it. I know it is a load off of your mind right now even if you still have to make it "fit." Take care. Have fun at the roundup.

Oh, I'm so happy! It's so difficult being in limbo.
Yes, I am SO glad not to be in limbo anymore... plus it will be nice to have use of my own plates, flatwear, sofa... and BOOKS again! That gives me a lot to look forward to after the KYRU!!!
Can you use a Redbud tree? We discussed them earlier in the summer and since you didn't know where you'd be, didn't know if you could use one.
I've got some foot tall seedlings and have been saving one for you....will bring it to the KYRU if you like.
If they can take some light shade, I'd love one! You do remember, though, that I have nothing to trade?
Oh Darius, what a lovely place! I had a creek on the back of my property at my first house and I loved all the wildlife that is attracted to water. It's good to see that you are going to get settled into a new place before winter sets in. hugs, Nat
They are an understory tree in the wild, so I think it's worth a shot. And don't worry about anything to trade...that's not why I offered it.
Thanks, Mel.
Nat, I will be SO glad to be more settled even though it will be a lot of work to do so. I love the creek... We Scorpios really are water babies, LOL.
I hesitated about this place, worrying about flooding from storms like Ivan, but I went up there after Ivan and the creek had not flooded so I feel somewhat safer. I will try to get flood insurance anyway... we didn't get half the rain we could have.
Doing the happy dance for you!!!! Granted, it's a little arthritic and clumsy and scaring the Doxies, but it's from the heart. I LOVE your new home!! Maybe it's just a thing with people born in those mountains, but looking at the picture of the creek, I can smell it. Mountain creeks have their own odor and their own sound (and very slick rocks, LOL) I can't wait to see the pictures of the beautiful place you will make it. Think Redbud, Mountain Laurel, Dogwood, etc.
Excuse me now, I have to go wipe a tear of homesickness away *grin*
Pati
Pati, I should have known you'd like the setting! You MUST come for a visit!!
Oh Oh - so HAPPY! GREAT NEWS. Looks like a nice place! You're going to love the creek and all. So it's temporary - but better than nothing! Oh - we gonna celebrate this weekend!
Marcia!
Oh Darius, be careful what you wish for! As the old song goes, :She'll be comin' 'round the mountain, when she comes" LOL
Pati
That looks like a wonderful place. I am so happy for you. That creek is marvelous. I would love that and know that you would too.
Beautiful setting Darius!!! I am so happy for you. I'm sure a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders(and other parts;). A house is a home when you make it one. And I'm sure you are very capable of making a beautiful one!!! See you Fri!
Hugs and Blessings,
Tina
I'm happy for you Darius, so glad you found something you like.
Darius:
Your new place looks wonderful! Makes me homesick too, like patischell. I grew up in Northwest Oregon, and it looks a lot like that there, too. I love the weather here, but miss the mountains and creeks just a stone's throw away.
Marilyn
Yeah Darius! I love the setting...had a creek in the back yard where I grew up....oh what a delight.
I am so glad to hear this - love good news. I'd be happy to send you shade plants for SASE - would you like to email me? March is a great time for perenials in our zones - roots are movable, but still haven't remembered their tops go with them.
Thanks, Bluespiral, but I won't make any plans until Spring, and after I see what I already have that will work there.
Hey Darius! Looks like you could you a couple Hostas, etc by your creek! Is your address the same in the Exchange? I would like to send you a house warming present. Let me know when you have moved in to the point where you can dig around a bit.
Hey Darius, hurry up and move so we can send you STUFF!
I won't change my address in the address exchange until closer to the 15th of October when I can actually move... and then it will be a race with Ole Man Winter with early freezing!
Thanks, y'all for your heart-warming generosity.
fine fine fine! Well I am watching this thread - so let us know!
Really.
Looks like heaven to me.. A place to yourself, the cat , woods and a creek.. What more could you want? I love it..
Larkie
I'm SO glad you've found a place!!!!!!
As I looked at your pic of your pickemup and stone walkway, I could picture your dream of the trees you ordered getting a start there! I hope they are shade lovers. If not, do you have any small sunny area at all? Your landlord may appreciate temporary small trees that you can put in temporarily. Or maybe you can trade for shadier varieties.
The new home is lovely. Seems like a perfect fit, at least for right now! You are a survivor, and you will not only succeed, but grow and flower in your new home. I'm so happy that it's close by the place that you love. You will make it HOME, and it will be blessed doubly by your presence.
It looks like your own private Eden. Sure there will be some drawbacks, but aren't there always? That's why God put the serpent in the Garden. But you will make better choices, and God will bless your kind and generous and caring heart, as well as your efforts. You will be an inspiration to those around you, as you have always been to us!
We all have to deal with what we are blessed with. That is what makes us grow. I'm sure you will embrace this new adventure with your own special self, and make it your own paradise, whether temporary or permanent.
Shady gardens are a real challenge for me. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. I have a shady area in my garden that needs completely redoing, from square one. I will be watching closely how you deal with and create your own special shady space.
Oh, how I love the rushing creek. I always wanted one. Won't happen for me, but I'm sure glad it is there in your new home for you. Post pics for sure!!!!!
Hugs and the very best of wishes for positive experiences to someone who well-deserves them, and appreciates them. And, makes the most of them!!!!
Be sure to keep us posted! If you need ANYTHING, please post!!!!
Judith, what lovely sentiments. Thank you so much! It will be an interesting journey, for sure.
I already can see the 30 red twig dogwoods I have ordered ringing the property line on my side of the house, separating us visually from the huge home (10,000 sq. ft.) next door scheduled to be a B&B (assuming they really have enough $$). That will also ring my shady garden area. I think they may get enough sun there. Not sure about the 30 river birch yet. At the minimum, I can grow them out at least a year in 1 gallon pots in the ground, and sell them if there's ultimately no place for them. Or, hold them for a more permanent place of my own... when I win the lottery.
I will have to be there a while and watch the sun and the trees to see if I can move any of my perennials that need sun.
This will be my shady garden area:
Darius- that is such a beautiful little shady meadow space! I cannot wait to see what you will do with it.
If you need to get rid of some trees, just let me know because I don't think that I bought enough for my house and henri's school where I am landscaping. I'll take the boogers off of your hands.
;o)
XOO,Dais'
Ü... I'll let you know but it's not likely, Dais'.
