Somewhat serious posting

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Darius, so sorry to hear that....is she close to you? Thinking about you both.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Weeds, we are both close, and not. I grew up with a lot of folks taking care of me, including 2 foster homes when she was young. We are close only that I have forgiven her... and that she relies upon me.

Yet, I have her Power of Attorney and am now responsible for her, whether I like it or not. She has another daughter from her second marraige, and she negects Mother. In fact, hasn't been to see her, nor even written in over a year.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Gee Darius, I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles!
My sister has had 2 tiny cabins for sale in Hiawassee, Georgia, most of the time they are empty, they come for 2 weeks in July and in the fall, (mostly to keep them up) maybe you should email me???

Love to you!

Darius, I wouldn't think of asking yu to trade in lush green mountains for red rock, but I sincerely wish you luck in your search. Maybe somewhere with a level patch of ground.

Just read Vi-bird's post. Now that sounds interesting. And no cooking involved. I have a friend who lives in a seldom used vacation home, works for her. And another who house sits. Lotsaluck ~Blooms

(((((Darius))))) Is the nursing home in our area? Hoping you dont have to travel far distances while your looing for a new home. Hope they get her records straightend out Fast

Darius, my thoughts are with you and your mother. Hang in there.

Ohhhhhhhh, darius - just found this thread...

If you want lush and green - you're always welcome to come to Ireland... ;-)

Cat is welcome, too - if she'll coexist with a lazy chow.

My thoughts are with you and your mother.... I remember so many of the encouragements you have given me in the past - I hope you have the right words over your heart and in your heart...

Take care... I will just keep visualizing that this change means an open path to something lasting and happy...

Love,
Sandra

Darius, you are so level headed....I know you will handle this with grace.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Dear Darius, this is a familiar road to us who have become the caregiver to a parent, so we know how difficult this is. I will hold you in my heart, and have a good thought for you.

Thanks, Everyone. I just had an update from the hospital. Mother is now talking and responding! Sounds like it might have been a TIA with (hopefully) no lasting effects. They will keep her in Acute Care for a few days to watch her and I will travel up to see her on Monday unless she gets worse before then.

Her IV has infiltrated (not good to happen in less than 24 hours) and they are waiting on the Doctor to say another IV or not. BUT, since she can now swallow, she's getting some oral fluids at least.

I DREAD teling her that her favorite sister-in-law passed away last week.... and that her remaining brother has had another stroke and given 24 hours to live. Any suggestions?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Darius, how is she mentally, I mean is she totally aware of everything or does she have any dementia? My dad had alzheimers for years so we handled things a little different with him.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

If she doesn't maintain regular phone conversations with them or they don't visit her often, I would leave that out of the equation right now. I don't think she needs that kind of disasterous news on top of everything else.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

darius... make sure you take care of yourself, also...

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Weeds, she's very alert but the last couple times I have visited she's had "flights of fancy" and tells me all sorts if fancifuk takes ibterspersed with reality. Just borderline dementai so far.

Ellen, she hasn't talked on the telephone for over a year, and has no contact with any of her family except me.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Then I wouldn't take any chances with telling her. Some things are just best left unsaid at such times as this when a person is just struggling to survive. Why drag her down with something that will surely depress her?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Darius, you will have to trust your gut feeling on this situation, but looking at it from a far, I tend to agree with Elena. Sometimes, it is kinder to withhold the truth.

Please drive carefully on your way to Boone. It is easy to be distracted with all the stress you must be feeling right now.

darius, sweetie you sure do have a lot on your plate at this time. I pray you find your Mom much improved when you get there and be careful.

Ruth, I have always heard that God doesn't give us more than we can handle. HE must think I have incredible shoulders, LOL.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Yep, we've seen 'em, you do ;~}
Bless you lady!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Put that tarp up Darius!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, Weeds and VI... I guess you really DO know me!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Just an update.

I have been to see my mother. She is stable although weak. I'm thinking she's decided (maybe, but she's tough) it's time to go, now that her other daughter (my half-sister) and only grandchild visited a couple days ago.

Thanks Everyone for your encougarement and kind words!

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

It's good to hear that your half sister finally visited. If her visit brings some peace to your mother, that is good.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted, Nat

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

sending more hugs and positive thoughts for your mother and you...

Been thinking about you....

Darius, praying for you and your Mother.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Any luck with house hunting yet? Starting to get worried for you.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Nothing yet, D'Cat. I'm putting ads in the 3 town papers nearby for a person who wants to share a house, or one who has a house to share, or someone looking for a caretaker. If that fails, I'm watching the Asheville papers where there are several offerings all the time.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Darius, I had not seen this thread until now. Bless your heart - you've certainly had a rough stretch of road. Hoping things will fall into place for you soon and a new door will open for you.

I can certainly attest to her biscotti and her mint brownies are to die for!!!

Hugs ((((((Darius)))))) Brenda

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Brenda... didn't realize you got some of the mint brownies, too!

Darius, I wish you the best- I just found this thread and hope your doing well. And your mom. I lost mine at an early age.

Hey!! GA is GREAT!! :-0

I've been following this thread, Darius, and realize that the move time is drawing near. Have you found a place to live in your lovely mountains yet?

Hugs!

Valley Village, CA

Darius, don't store furniture, it costs an arm and a leg. Better you should sell it, it won't cost a lot for moving, keep all the precious small items, your cherished memories, and if you can let go of the material things.
Oregon is a beautiful state with lots of trees, and so is Washington state, however that will take you away from the people who are friends that you love. Take a deep breath and take one day at a time. Remember you can always change where you temporally put down roots, and after I read this thread, you have so many friends you will get along where ever you stay. You are indeed blessed. Help wil come to you from a source least expected. Hang in there, we are all here for you. Luv, Norma Lewis

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Norma, I believe you are right...

I am already planning to sell a lot of the "stuff" I have in storage, although if we get the rain expected here from Hurricane Francis next week, my units may flood so I won't have much left or useable.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Darius- I once lost all of my hoardings in an el niño and it made life so much easier once I got over the shock of losing all of my fabric and books. And believe me, it is too easy to get more. ; )

darius:
How are you doing?. haven't heard from you lately.

Jay (smooth)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Jay, I've been working in a nearby town, staying over. The latest weekly papers for our 3 towns come out tomorrow... I always hope the perfect (or even halfway close) home for me will be in it. LOL.

(Zone 7a)

Darius, I just found this thread - am something of a newbie, but have appreciated your comments and viewpoints. Am sorry to see your predicament. I hope something works out for you in the short term and that you find what you want in the long term.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

bluespiral, thanks. I'm still looking and still optimistic.
