1. Found a place
2. Owner's a landscaper and will let YOU garden
3. Creek
4. Looks clean and spacious inside

That's cool. Yippee!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I will be renting, and I hope to take most of my plants. October 15th.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

WHEW!!!!!!
I am so glad you found a home in your mountains and the creek! I'm so jealous :) Redbuds are super in the shade, don't worry. Bet alot of your 'sun' plants will adapt too.

Just so happy for your Darius! And who was it that called you a survivor, I thought it was Wonder Woman! Dang, I can't find that song lyric I wrote for you, remember ? LOL!
Nothing like making us wait and worry, truely happy for you :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Vi, you wrote a song for me? I guess I never saw it, LOL! Yes, I guess I AM a Survivor. Not sure about Wonder Woman, though.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes you did, silly, it's buried in one of the GARU threads somewhere, I remember one line; and she's a W O M A N...now do you remember?

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Great Darius :) Looks like a good place to have a roundup! :)
Happy Gardening!!

I recently called her a survivor in a thread when we were all worried about how she made it through the latest storm.

Valley Village, CA

All is well, that end well. When you I'll send you a shade plant from Calfi. Norma

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Darius, I am happy for you. I guess I'll take your name off one of the Royal Residences that I had earmarked for you.....
cheers girl and good luck in your move!

I am a new subscriber. I read this thread and my heart sunk for you and the banana I was eating was up in my throat. I have to admit I was aghast at the thought of you not finding a place that would make you happy. Thank God you found a place to move to that will accept your cat. The photos I have seen that you have posted look absolutely breathtaking and the stream out back looks idyllic. From what I have seen so far, I can't imagine a more beautiful setting and in no time you will personalize your space and it will feel like home.

Shade gardening will grow on you. It takes time though and I am just now beginning to appreciate how many opportunities there are for planting in shade. As far as your dining room set, that I am truly sorry about as it appears you are a really into cooking and gathering with friends. If it is any help, I have the lousy formal dining room and nobody ever uses it in favor of all crowding into the kitchen or the family room. Well, I do have two cats that sprawl out in the middle of my dining room table as if they were centerpieces.

You mentioned you would be able to garden. Please watch my seed trade lists in the weeks to come. Sometime by the end of November, I will have posted all that I have to offer for the year. You are welcome to anything that I have to help you start out. Next spring I would be able to send you entire hosta plants if that would help settle you in. I have quite a few specimens and they are yours for the asking. I love my hostas. I should also have quite a few natives such as tiarellas. I won't be able to tell you which cultivar they are though as my id system was blown. Please let me know if I have anything at all that you might be interested in having. I am not interested in anything in trade not even a SASE or postage.

Take Care and keep boxing!
God Bless,
Lauren

PS, here is a recently created woodland pond solely for frogs. It may not be what many think is beautiful but the frogs will be able to lay their eggs in it next spring as will the dragonflies and damselflies. I was afraid of shade when I moved here 3 years ago but now I am getting the hang of it and you will too.

I'm not Darius, but I just had to break in and tell you how much I love your woodland pond, and what a nice person you are. You may be new, but you fit right in with the good and thoughtful people on DG!

Don't forget there is a Pet Forum and we would love to see pictures of your "centerpiece cats"

Don't forget to email one of these days when you have settled yourself.
lots of hugs

I am relieved, girl. I will be sending you some things, too. What town will you be in?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I will still be in Hayesville. Will post my new address on the DG Address Excvhange mid-October when I actually move.

Auburn Hills, MI(Zone 6a)

I'm so glad you found a nice place to live,,, the stress of having to deal with that must have been nutty !!! good location on the new place,,

Thank you for the compliments on my frog pond. I think it is the only pond I have ever seen with that type of edge material. It is only 200 gallons but it works in its location.

Hi Patischell, As far as the lounge lizard centerpieces... I'd have to vacuum the tablecloth to take a photo for the Pets Forum. It would be too embarrassing to post a photo right now as I haven't vacuumed cat hair off in a few weeks, no time as I'd rather be outside or online. Also too, I have 8 indoor only cats that were all former strays or from shelters, 3 house dogs also from shelters, a few pasture pets also from hooved animal societies, a pet rat from a school classroom, an assortment of reptiles & amphibians, and a partridge in a pear tree! We turned down the left over rabbit as it would have been a tad too much. Tee he, I don't think people in the Pets Forum would love a parade of threads featuring our precious personal pets.

Hi Darius, what types of plants do you like?

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

Nice pad, Darius! You go girl! Let me know if you need anything from soggy bottom!

Welcome, Equilibrium! Hope you'll join us in the ongoing "Nightowls" thread on the Jokes & Chat Forum. I think we're up to #17 now! It's not just for nightowls. We post 24/7. Someone's usually passing through either reading or posting. We'd love to chat with you!

BTW, you'll be amazed at the "pets" you'll see and hear about on the Pets Forum, as well as on the Wildlife Forum. Check it out. I'm sure your pets will fit right in! I have all sorts of local wildlife that we feed, just for the delight of watching and interacting with them!

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Equil, Here's a suggestion for taking care of the cat hair. Check out that third picture. LOL

Indeed, with your smorgasborg (sp?) of animals, you are a PRIME candidate for the Pet Forum!

Darius, so glad you found a place to live and not too terribly far. Love your creek, in my dry area have never been close to a creek to live. I think you will finally enjoy the shade gardening bit. Lots of Luck. Donna

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

and if she loses power and water, she can run out to the creek for drinking water because the spring-fed streams here are so pure. (But better check out what's upstream).

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

Great place Darius, thanks for sending us here! Annie

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

You are welcome! I am really enjoying the creek, and now I have 2 birdfeeders between the house windows and the creek... almost constant activity!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Congrats Darius!!!
That place is BEAUTIFUL! And a creek! Ohhh Hostas are gonna do so well for you there!
When we get enough seeds/plants going keep me in mind and I'll send you some.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I'm so excited to see how my hostas do here, The bank between my windows and the creek has my few hostas planted there, in late Oct. when they were just roots.

Spring will be SO exciting!

Unfortunately, the spot that gets the most sun, and where I planted loads of bulbs, herbs and perennials incl. 40 foxglove is now earmarked by my landlord to be a storage shed against the house and under a newly planned deck. I'm hoping he won't have enough $$ this summer, LOL.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL! Here's to hoping he goes broke! :-))

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oh, NO! NOT broke... I'd have to move...

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh okay not broke! LOL Nooooooo moving, LOL.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Whew... thanks!

Tallahassee, FL(Zone 8b)

I'm sooo glad you're enjoying you new home and garden area!!!!

Hey, if you don't have the sunny area you want, you make your own sunshine in the best shade garden ever.

Be sure to update your "wanted plant list" on DG, or you might get some plants in the spring that you don't want/can't use anymore. I'm looking and planning!!!! And I'm planning a shade garden for myself right now for the spring. Be sure to LMK what grows/what you want in your garden. Plants will be coming!!!!

Hugs!!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Judith!
