New thread ...who is in on MG War???

(Zone 8a)

Celia...after the flower dies a round green pod will form and when it turns brown it's ready to pick but keep and eye on them closely for they will poop open!

Hope this helps!
Rebecca

(Zone 8a)

Oh... you all are gonna hate me but I have taken pics of some gorgeous mg's I have grown! Wait til you see 'em! ;)

Rebecca

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Mine died, then Sue sent me more seeds, then I killed them too. I'm out I think. I do still have a couple seedlings under the growlights, but they are just wee little buggers that I'm afraid to put outside for fear of killing them. Is there a prize for the person who grows them inside all twined around the growlight stand? LOL

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Hey imaseedpicker!I'd like to see the complete listing of the grand prizes! To say that you 'have alot'is too vague!
The only way to play this fair(for sure)is to publish the complete list! This way you have a firm commitment for what any contenders would be getting and precludes 'holding out' on any 'rare/unusual'types that you may not want to let go until you see what everybody else has!
How do I know if there are even any on my list of wants?!
I'm not being a wet blanket, but since 'alls fair in love and war',I'd like to see the list!
Play 'fair'(!!!),up with the list!
Anyone else think that the list should be available for viewing? Why or why not?

Ron...no, I don't think a list is necessary...she posted somewhere about something she was going to give away...but it is not important WHAT the prize IS...the fun is in the comraderie that we have had going here!! This is a "For Fun" contest....hope you enjoy it as much as we do...and Welcome to Dave's Garden!!! Jo

(Zone 8a)

Thanks Jo! I thought I had removed all the post about prizes but since I started this thread I will still honor sending seeds to the prettiest flower winner!

As for a list, Ron, I'm afraid you don't know me very well for my life has been topsy-turvy for the past year and I really don't know what I have... I know I have about 10,000 seeds that have not been planted (not all mg's)

I will however honor the initial prize though!

Hope all is well with you all and Happy Gardening!

Ron, may I jump in here? I have known Rebecca for a long time, prior to coming to DG, and was a frequent visitor to her own garden site. She had a contest there, offering $25 worth of seeds, to be selected by the winner and sent after the contest ended. I won the contest, but didn't want to decide at the time because of health matters. From time to time, she would ask me if I was ready, or remind me I had that coming. After a year or so, she persuaded me to come here, when there were no subscriptions. When DG went to subscriptions, I was debating whether I was recovered enough to justify paying, since I still had very limited energy. One day, I received a message from DG, informing me that someone had paid my subscription for a year. After some time, Rebecca confessed to me that she was my angel, and told me I couldn't protest because it was her way of settling the old matter of the seeds I never claimed. She has sent packages of seeds several times, just because she is a generous person, and always included other little things she thought I would like. Once, she even sent a necklace for my granddarling. Now, my friend, do you really think you need to pin her down? I advise you to leave it up to her, as she has been known to pad a box more than once. I give you my word, you will not feel slighted. If you win. Good luck.

(Zone 8a)

Aimee to the rescue...even thought we have remaimed good friends...she is so right about about my pledge!

Ron...I do not have all the ones you posted but I have lots of so called common mg's...maybe a few rare one's!

I'm sorry to have caused confusion but as I recollect no one else has posted what they are growing either or very few have!

Happy Mging to all!
Rebecca

Okay,I'm not going to'press'the issue...;'War Games''Fun''Comraderie'what does it matter!
A "Ruse by any other name would smell just as s...
I didn't ask what you were'growing'(!),just what the prize was...
What a person is offerring/making available for trade or any other reason(as viable seed)may not necessarilly be the same as what they are growing at the moment.
As for what I am growing this year,'alot'!But I'm concentrating on my crosses(!)and alot of 'common ones',maybe even a 'few'rare ones!
I might even have 'a' yellow one if I get lucky...

Okay! You seem to be a professional mg grower where as we are not but just more common growers and this thread has created alot of interest in growing mg's and like I said I really don't have any rare mg's to speak of just some hard to get ones from seed companies!

I did just receive some seeds from a friend abroad and will let ya'll know if I get any seeds from them! And post pics too!

Crossville, TN

Heck! This thread was what inspired me to try my hand at trying to start ANYTHING from seed...or from Wal-Marts either, for that matter. (actually, windsurffer had included a seed packet of something called Star of Yelta in the Friendshp box some of you had sent me after my DH died...so I had to find out what it was....still hope it blooms before the loctus arrive!!) Thanks for starting the fun! Jo

This is a really strange bunch of people on this thread. Did anyone else notice that Imaseedpicker did not say she was having a contest, she said it was a MG war? In the very first thread, she said she would give some of her personal seed stock to the winner. But we know she has already given others some of the same seeds, during previous negotiations when she wanted something from them or just wanted to show her friendship. Why, this is a political campaign, isn't it? There will be a war, lots of mud will be rearranged, friends will become sneaky, loyalties will be strained, then a winner will be announced and for the next year, folks will talk about whether the right winner was declared. Yep, it's politics, and business as usual. We even have the radicals from a renegade camp.

Crossville, TN

Thanks, Aimee.....I think...LOL Jo

"Me thinks you protesteth too much" Hey,Where'd that sense of humour go?'Camp'is good ole fashioned comedy(!)and any 'renegade radicals'are as likely to have some healthy 'renegade' morning glories pokin'around, as well as a healthy sense of humour to go along with it!Lighten up!!!GEEEZZZ!!!
I'm not a 'professional'morning glory grower if that means for monetary profit.I'm just somebody that does the best I can to grow, enjoy and share on morning glories!
Keep on track, the subject is morning glories, not politics;A little'objectivity'on the matter is good for the heart!Cheer up!There is too many morning glories out there!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

getting back to morning glories... Ron - I'd love to see some of the unusual ones that you have on your trade page. Are you able to post any pictures?

(Zone 8a)

Wow!!! This is really turning into an all out WAR!

Thanks again Aimee but I did post to give prizes but some folks said I shouldn't have to do that and maybe I shouldn't...so I ain't!

Someone also said we should give out ribbons and I would like to ask who is willing to do that?

I'm still giving mg seeds for the prettiest flower...he-he

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

I will be gradually adding pictures as is possible;I don't have a digital camera(yet!)and I doubt that the regular camera photos will show up too good.I am going to be co-ercing a friend that teaches photography to take some pictures SOON!
I usually have people in different parts of the country and in different temperature zones growing out some of my stuff and the flowers are ready>when thet are ready!...
I'm mostly concentrating at my 'Research Unit'on my crosses and some others that can be very finicky to get to flower at all(!),let alone soon! But,pictures WILL be forthcoming ASAP!
I do have some links to some on my want list that I think are interesting(!)and links to some that are Convolvulaceae, but what exactly they are,I don't know(!);What I do know is that they are very interesting to me and I want them!
Should I put the links on here?
Also, just for the record, after reading all the good natured'jocular'ribbing that was going on in this thread,I decided to post my'political demands'for the list!I guess I took it for granted that it would be understood as'tongue in cheek';I really don't care a rats rectum'what the prize seeds are'(!);I just like morning glories and enjoying it!
Although,I must say that I will continue to be on the lookout for any 'nefarious political activities'for the good of all!...
I've also conferred, conversed and otherwise hobnobbed with the'Lakshami Morning Glory Devas' and they have consented to my request to spinkle some of their 'morning glory eggs'around to all'good little boys and girls'as they see fit by virtue of their celestial reasoning and insight into the inner workings of the YoUniverse and they emphasised the essence of these Words "That Unless ye become as little chidren,ye canot enter the Kingdom...for the Kingdom is Within"
Shall We Dance?!Your life is your prayer(!),So,Shall we pray together!
I trust that sharing on my feelings is not offensive to anyone...
Peace!

(Zone 8a)

Wow! Ron exactly what did you say in your statement above? I think you have misunderstood the postings...I do not want to start a real war with us Dg'ers!

Sometimes some of us say things in a way that irritate others and I think that is the case here but it is not intentional to say the least!

So let's all lighten up and keep peace!

Looking forward to seeing your pics!
Cheers!
Rebecca

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Hey Rebecca,You are missing the'essence'of what I said! Before I ever posted(!),I had enjoyed the good natured 'ribbing'I saw amongst the members! So,I posted a similarly Light hearted'demand'for the list(!),which I thought would be recognized as'tongue in cheek';I have simply continued to respond in the same'spirit';I guess I should be writing 'spooky stories'for Halloween if my 'tongue in cheek'style is still being taken 'too seriously'!
If I lighten up anymore than I've been all along,I'll be 'over the rainbow'visiting with the 'Great OZ'Himself!
Ya'with me(?)

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Also,I had hoped that quoting the "Words of Jesus"from the Christian Bible would not offend anyone!I do happen to really like the reality of becoming fresh"...as little children...",and sharing,'dancing'and that(!)being the best 'form'of prayer that one can enjoy/offer to the (Y)Universe' as it encompasses the self, others and the totality of all that there is;and that 'Jesus'taught that the 'kingdom of heaven was within(!)'
Gee,I hope that doesn't 'scare'anybody into thinking or (interpreting)that as 'words of War'(!)
My political 'monitoring'I thought was obviously(!)'tongue in cheek'!
Do I need to explain the 'seed sprinklin'too(?)
I hope I don't need to find an even more(!?)'light hearted'group!
A quote from "Little Caeser""You know Ernie, you better get out of this racket(!),it's gettin'so ya'can dish it out ,but ya'can't take it anymore"
See ya'!

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Okay!No more 'political'satires or 'quasi-religious litanies'(Amen!)
Hey!Check out this link to some fine Japanese Morning Glories!
http://www.genetics.or.jp/Asagao/Yoneda/species/flower_pattern.html
This shows all the 'basic'color pigment patterns(!)and has plenty of links to alot(!)of 'wild'colored asagao!
They used 'plenty'of "American'species to create these fine beauties!Interesting 'American'creations don't have to be limited to the 'Darold Decker'age!I hope there's some interesting 'American'beauties showing up eventually on the US morning glory pages!
Take the pollen from the anthers of 'one'and put it on the stigma of another! It's that easy!It may not 'always work'that easy, but it works enough times to make for alot of fun and some interesting variations!
Anybody at least trying?!

Ron...Peace Man! Check out this link for gorgeous Japanese mg's! http://w3.poporo.ne.jp/~kondoh/asagao/asagao99.htm

Happy Mg'ing!
Rebecca

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Yeah,I've checked out that site before(!);Great colors, but as you may know the leaves and branches are trained in such a way to try and hold up the flower so that you can actually see it(!)because they are just sooo(!)floppy.
That's why some good ole fashioned'American'ingenuity is necessary to try and keep the nice colors going without them being too floppy!
With all the avid Morning Glory enthusiasts we got here,if even a portion(!) did some 'ole fashioned home style' crossing with some types that have a stiffer type corolla(by the simple law of averages!),we should be seeing some (of the seemingly infinite color variations of the 'too floppy'Japanese types)that can 'stand on their own'!
I look forward to the day when the 'American'types can take their place in the 'Morning Glory Olympics'of the world!
What say ye'to that there may'tees!

RON....Floppy...whatever they are gorgeous can't you say? I have so many mg's this year and if they cross there is no telling what I may have next year!

Happy Mg'ing!
Rebecca

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

The colours are absolutely outstanding(!),there is no doubt about that...;When the flowers spread open and you can actually see all of the flowers colours and markings, shading variations, etc.,I prefer that type,I think they are nicer; It's just a personal preference, that's all...

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)
