I'm stymied. I missed a court date of Feb 20, and when I asked when it was rescheduled for, I got an email saying March 17 @ 9:30. Tonight a Constable called saying he has a new subpoena for April 9th. I asked him what about tomorrow?!?!
He thinks that date was cancelled, but doesn't know. So, I'll head out & if they call me before I reach court, I'll turn around & come home. If I get to court & it's cancelled, I have the email saying "March 17th at 9:30" so I can ask to be reimbursed for my gas. Will this EVER end????
Best,Worse,What did I learn today? Come sit and chat, I’ve muffins in the oven and fireplace is on..
YIKES! It is the mess that keeps on messing! Sorry for the whole messy thing dragging itself out.
I had an unfortunate situation today. I organize the meals for families that are having a crisis of one sort or another. I sent the sign up around and 1 sweet lady, Rheta, signed up for 2 days. She does not remember to fix herself food, I sure can not count on herself to fix and deliver a meal to a family of 4. Marie offered up an idea for a solution. I called Rheta and told her I had several people who wanted to provide a meal, and could I possibly call on her when I was in jam looking for help. Thankfully Rheta thought that was a good idea.
Thankfully you will be able to get last minute help from Rheta. Good idea, Marie!
Court was a non-event. I showed up, he showed up & was being all friendly-like. I ignored him. I went to the front desk & they told me today was only to confirm that he would accept the court date of April 9th. He did. I didn't get called to the bar to say that it was good for me. I was told yesterday, by the RCMP that I should get reimbursed for my gas. Spoke to someone today who gave me an email to contact to get reimbursed. Total trip was 64miles (102km).
Thank you for the update Susan. Glad to hear she is ok.
Hopefully we will hear directly from Betty soon. I am sorry she is under the weather.
I'll post a picture later, I got the longarm quilting done on a Valentine print quilt. It was a disappearing 9 patch I started 10 years ago! I started it, didn't really like it very much and put it aside. I am on a mission to complete or pass on projects. A couple of weeks ago I framed all the blocks with 2.5 strips in an effort to mask my seams that would have not matched. I had been experimenting with size and placement. The poor thing was WAY TOO BUSY..
I decided sashing MIGHT help. BEFORE the sashing, I had taken to nicknaming the quilt Valentine Vomit. The sashing really helped but if I had to do THAT one part over (sashing), I would have still done a non-solid but it would not have been a consistent dot that frequently made the sashings look like they were cut wonky. You know how if a stripe is not printed perfectly on grain & cut and seam IS, it looks wonky? That is what is going on. I hope to get the binding on today & will post a picture.
looking forward to your "not-wonky" Valentine's quilt, Pat lol Feels good to finish items that have been sitting in your pile, right? I'm about to work on a pair of Thrum knitted mittens I started about 4 years ago lol The lady who was teaching us how to knit them can't find her pattern, so I looked it up online. I have the wool & the thrum and only 1" done on one wrist, so if I take it out & use the free pattern I have, it will still be thrumed.
I posted on our Best/Worst Round Robin site.
Today, heading to Bible Study, a huge rock hit my windshield. 4/5s of a large circle. After Bible Study I went to a glass repair shop in the next town. $65 to put a sealant on it. I've never been to this shop, but they've allowed me to pay an invoice when my pension comes in. Account is getting pretty low on funds. I'm SO grateful to them. Small towns are like that.
Sorry to hear. About the windshield Susan. Glad you have people that help.
What is thrum mittens? Never heard that term.
Frist shows my "helpers", 3rd, shows the 2 fabrics I used on the back. A close up of the black would show "love" in white, pink & darker pink. I split the black print & used it with the black & red roses print. I really didn't like this quilt at all until I got the red dot sashing on it. I am starting to get the hang of the longarm. I think I was pulling the quilt too tight. It didn't seem too tight to me before but the last 2 quilts I have made even looser and had NO broken threads to restart.
Beautiful quilt Pat. I learned the hard way too, about pulling the quilt too tight.
Thanks Linda, I am with you "What is thrum mittens? Never heard that term."
"Thrum mittens are known for their unique texture and warmth, featuring small pieces of raw wool or "thrums" knit into the design. These mittens often have a cozy, fuzzy appearance with tiny white "hearts" visible on the outside, created by the ends of the thrums sticking out."
This picture shows the outside, and the inside.
I suppose you wouldn't wear these in your warmer climate, Linda Kay.
Pat - more to your liking for your cold winters, like mine. They're very popular on the Eastern Seaboard because of their extreme winters..
I got the pattern from Ravelry.com. The author's name is Debi Wilbur.

They look nice and warm. I have never seen them.
Being in Tx, you wouldn't need them, but I am looking forward to making & wearing them, AFTER I do some quilting & sewing.
Feeling rather down about our senior's AGM today. Only 6 of us, including me, and two of the husbands didn't come because they chose to misunderstand voting privileges - If they were at the last AGM, they could vote to accept the minutes, otherwise not. They chose to believe that they couldn't vote on anything, so one stayed away & the other left. With the two of them we would have had a quorum for other voting. Without them, NOT! I feel as though I'm hitting my head against a brick wall. Feel like giving up, but I have 1 more year, and next year is our 50th.
We have a committee meeting of 3 of us to plan the celebration. The county will give us a grant, we can join the yearly parade next year, and we'll have quilt made to commemorate it. My VP will stay on for another year (he was going to retire this year, but he didn't feel the prospects of others were very good, and he's right). I have a new secretary, thank goodness, because doing all the work myself wasn't good. Really feeling down.
Sorry to hear that Susan. Hopefully someone can explain things better to them.
Betty, I wish you would post here. We miss you very much.
Being wool explains why the mittens would be so warm.
Off to bed. I have some issues with my index finger & typing is painful tonight.
I hope you are feeling well enough to read Betty. Take care of yourself.
Linda Kay - the only ones who showed up at the meeting are the ones who help and I didn't need to lecture THEM. I did, however, send out an email to the whole membership saying that we need a quorum of 8 and only 6 showed up so we couldn't vote on major items. I said that there was a misunderstanding that people couldn't vote on things because they weren't at the last AGM & ONLY the minutes couldn't be voted on. (I know that it was a purposeful misunderstanding but still, it was very annoying and I hope they GET this).
bummer about the meeting. It is so much work and those not in leadership take it for granted.
2 of my sons are here with family, 3rd son is meeting us for dinner. 4th of course is not, he lives in China. We did the great bedroom shuffle, Marie will sleep in my bed, I will sleep in my recliner in my bedroom. ONe son & wife in guest room, other son & wife, child, in Marie's bedroom & recliner, Kevin & fam leave in the morning, I get Dana & wife thru Sunday,
Pat - wow, lots of arranging where people will sleep - don't envy you!
Tonight I went to Karaoke after Games Night. I've never sung Karaoke in my life. I sang "Any Man Of Mine" by myself, and "These Boots Are Made For Walking" with DeAnne. I had to have 2 1/2 draft beer to do it LOL It was fun. I don't normally drink but people here think I'm pretty stiff- necked & I wanted to show them that I
CAN be fun.
Always lots of work to do, knowing company is coming. Enjoy your family time.
Susan, sounds like you enjoyed yourself.
Yes, I sure did. The "gang" stopped inviting me a long time ago, because I just wanted to go home after Games Night. Last night we finished earlier, so I surprised them & showed up anyway.
Today I'm working on my velvet yarn knitted dress. I was having so much trouble with the pockets, so I've tinked them out & am doing a straight dress with NO pockets :) They weren't coming out correctly and I couldn't figure them out. Ah well, I'm not a fan of pockets in dresses anyway.
You're knitting a dress? Can't wait to see it finished.
Susan, Yes, the down side of always turning down an invitation is that they stop asking. My son's have beautiful voices, me? not so much!
Linda, the house sale has closed and you have the money tucked into your account? I never feel it's done until "I see the money". Something can always go wrong!
All my company has gone home, now to start stripping beds and putting fresh sheets on. NOT my favorite part of having company! LOL
Still no Betty online. *sigh*
Pat, yes, papers are signed, notorized and money is in the bank. My bank and my son are helping my figure out what is the safest investment to make. Bank told me the markets are not real steady, so I may check out gold or silver investment.
It is different when you are retired and when you still have lots of years to weather any stock market ups and downs. When we retired we didn’t want to stress day to day so took the easy way and had Fidelity put our money into CDs that mature over different time periods. Right now we are getting a pretty steady interest rate without a bunch of worry. You might check to see if your bank offers something like that.
I sold my house last year and will not be investing in another house. I need to round up ALL the paperwork that shows cost of the remodeling etc that was done in the time we owned the house. I do not want to get stuck with the whole difference between what we bought it for and what we sold it for. We had over 80K worth of remodeling done & that is what I can remember off the top of my head.
If I sold my place, it wouldn't generate enough for me to consider investing lol
Hey can anyone here help with a knitting question?
The dress I'm knitting is "bottom up" so now I'm working at the neck end. Y'know how they have different coloured print for different sizes? Well, they switched the colours, and the instructions aren't clear to me anymore. Maybe there's a DG site for confused knitters? If anyone here can help, I'd post the pattern pages (6 of them) and you can help me figure it out.
Thanks for the information on investing teacup. I will check into it.
Susan, sorry. I don't know much about knitting. Have your tried asking the company you got the pattern from?
I could have sworn we used to have a knitting group here on DG, but I could not find it. Sorry, I am clueless.
Good idea Linda Kay.
I'll check for a Knitting Group on DG. Never know, someone may have done this pattern lol
I found a Forum - Sewing, Quilting, and Needle Arts
I created my own sub-forum "Knitting - Slouchy Sweater Dress - Pattern problem"

I have a Fidelity IRA account. I rolled over a former employer's 401k. They manage it completely, it's done really really well in the year and a half I've had it.
Hope you can find an answer to your problem, Susan. I think a lot of the old groups have been combined over the years.
Yes Deb, they have and so many of just withered up and died. I miss several of them including trash to treasure.
aha - went to the Wellness Social Group today, and one of our number helped me figure out the part. I'm now on my way to finishing the top edge/neckline. Then it's on to do the back.
First though, I need to cut the borders for Betty & Sharon's quilt centers. I started the cutting last night.
Thanks for the info Deb.
Susan, glad you got the help you needed.
This is stupid! It keeps telling me there are new posts, but there's nothing. Wonder if Betty will rejoin us. I've seen a few posts of hers on Facebook. I'm Deb Peters there, if anyone wants to connect. I know, common name, but, I'm the only one with Afghans in my photo. Maybe we need to create a group there. I hope everyone is doing well.
Deb, I get the same thing. I have learned to refresh the page, every time I come here.
I know, mine says the same thing - new posts, but there usually aren't any. However, here you both are!
Hi Deb. I'll check you out on FB & send you a friend request, from Susan MacKenzie - the one with the Cdn flag lol
I got your request Susan. I don't usually post much on Facebook other than dog stuff, but maybe sometimes it's interesting!
I didn't renew my DG subscription this year, but, other than this thread I don't follow anything else and I can still see this and save myself $20 a year.
To post here doesn't cost anything, so I'm not going to renew mine, either.
This past 2 weeks have had some arrrrrrgh moments (rock chip in my car windshield, fixed; screw in my tire - fixed) and then today I bought a friend for Dixie - her name is Mikey. Here's a couple of pictures. Dixie is on the right, and Mikey is about 2/3 his size. She's starting to cheep, so she's feeling comfortable.
After I bought her, I came straight home. After 6 I started getting ready to go to Games Night - NO PHONE?!?!?! It's in a wallet that has my debit card, "fill & go" credit card (no $$ on it), AMA, etc etc etc. I have my ID, but the store is closed & I won't be able to reach anyone until it opens at 9am. So, I sit & fret............
Oh missing phone, no fun!
Our annual quilt show was today. Marie & I went but didn't stay long. She needed to be back in time to go with her son to the baseball game (granddaughter hit 2 home runs!)
