Thanks for the link to the Carpenter's star, Betty - you're an "enabler", you know lol
I won't be making it because I have a lot on my plate already, and she did the tutorial so quickly that I couldn't figure it out anyway lol Ah well.
Here's a picture of my grandma's quilt. It's a crazy quilt, for sure, for a single bed. I added the large borders on it to make it a little more stable on the edges, and make it larger. The butterfly was under a piece of fabric that was disintegrating. I don't know who embroidered it, but it was so sweet to find. The snail etc were showing.
I had to applique new material over some blocks where the fragile material was shot. The last picture shows how it was when I first got it back. Heartbreaking.
All I have are these pictures (I have more than this, but still......... just the pictures) but if I get it back, I'll show more.
Best,Worse,What did I learn today? Come sit and chat, I’ve muffins in the oven and fireplace is on..
Deb, I should have added that back in the day they used straight needles which. Made it harder to tie, now days they have 1/2 circular needles that allows you to push needle down into the quilt and lifting needle making small stitch bringing it to top surface making it, much easier
Jeff sent me photo of quilt, must be close to 100 years, wasn’t made to look pretty, was made to keep loved ones warm when maybe the wood stove would go out on a stormy night, have to chuckle, would certainly have kept me warm yesterday having no hydro.
I have a queen size cross stitched quilt mom did and hand quilted by Aunt Muriel but I worry if i set it on a bed Ziggy would be pulling at embroidery threads, sad it sitting 8n the closet.
Mom used to bring her cross stitch when we would go to Buffalo. Sharon has one mom just finished and will do it on long arm. I’ve enough 24” squares I really should quilt up throws for the grands but you know don’t think boys get the sentimental feeling of such gifts.i think of those wedding quilts I did for when they marry, likely be antiques by then lol
Susan, I deleted the link, wasn’t the tie quilting with embroidery floss
When i do her projects I press stop, do that section then move on to the next step
You did a great job repairing the quilt, yes heartbreaking for sure when you see a keepsake in disrepair

Thank you, Betty - I wondered which quilt you were posting about. Now I understand.
It is rainy and gray here, mild. I will take that over your snow!
I rescued an old quilt that my dad was using as a cover over equipment. Some of it was in rough shape there was still lots in Ok shape. I used it when I created a display up on a large pottery shelf at a friend's house. We turned it into a tea party /picnic for bears with the quilt hanging partially down on the wall. it was adorable.
We headed over to pick up a friend's audition board. she replaced her's with a huge felt wall and we are taking her old wall.
I asked my daughter about the quilt, and she said right after I sent it to her it developed more holes and she hasn't done anything with it since. It's sitting in her laundry room. I've learned a lot more about quilt stitching since then, and believe I can reliably fix it, with some more new fabric. I don't know what it looks like now, but she'll send it to me "at some point".
Rained a bit last night, damp this morning, I can only hope it’s a slow process getting rid of all of this snow, if it’s a quick thaw my pumps won’t keep up big sigh
That must have been so exciting Pat, imagine, a quilt covering equipment but then in those days am sure equipment had priority over quilts. Guess you didn’t keep a photo of it? Your friend must have felt blessed you giving her this treasure. Do you have a wall to place the audition board ? I have one I bought, it has a wall of it own but then I set the quilt frame in front of it, have about 3’ to move around to place blocks so not conducive to using it, right now and i think for past five years I have panel I want to do, it’s beyond saying a slow process. I haven’t seen a felt one, by felt do you mean it’s inch thick?
Hope your daughter sends it Susan, maybe repair and keep it lol
Sitting on couch, as i am typing my head is getting heavier, might need to nap.
Ooh Ziggy wants out again, he has been out about 4 times since 6 am so it must be quite mild.
Lordy,Lordy
Know I was almost 100% past flu which I had just a few days short of a month ,3 days later the flooding issue and wore myself down. Spent Sunday in bed, yesterday I went the chiropractor, shopping and home then rested
This morning had a coffee and porridge, felt a bit off so had a Turkey t.v. Dinner thinking it might be hunger, shortly everything was going through me so off to bed again… so tired of being ill
sallaudin just signed up on DG today......... spammer
Sun shinning but know expected around 3pm
Don’t know what they hope to gain by spamming such sites?
Sorry to hear your not doing well Betty. Get plenty of rest.
more snow, Betty? I should think you've had enough! I hope that your helpers return & plow/shovel for you.
I must live a charmed life. Yesterday I drove 1 hour into the city then back again. Afterwards I went to my mechanic down the street & he said that I had NO oil in my car (yes, way overdue for an oil change). He was surprised that the engine didn't blow up/seize. He put in 3 quarts & told me to drive for 2 weeks, THEN he'll do an oil change. He said he'd be legally libel if he changed the oil now & the engine seized. So, no long distance driving for me until I get the oil change. I've had NO funky noises from my car. He says that my 2007 car is pretty tough.
Also, the reason I went to the city was because a week ago when shopping with a friend of mine, I'd left his cane in the cart. Went yesterday to get it for him, and they couldn't find it. They had a red one that they gave me (same brand). Today I brought the red one to him. Afterwards the store called me & said they had HIS (black) cane. I'm obviously not able to drive so far, but another friend is heading into the city tomorrow. I brought the red cane to her & she'll exchange it for HIS black one.
Nice to have such good friends to help me, and the ability to help my friend.
Isn't anyone chatting anymore? It's been 2 days
I was wondering the same.
Praying everyone is well.
Glad that you're here, Linda Kay.
Now, to find out if Betty, Pat, and Deb etc are ok.
When I get home I'll phone Betty
i am here Susan, nobody was posting, so few of us just thought maybe it was time to close the thread.
Blizzard going on outside so busy at it again. Was so very nice for a few days that it made us think winter was turning a corner but guess we were rushing it.
Trying to talk myself out of going outside before calling it a night but thinking early morning it will be. You know what the old adage says about winter:
in like a lion, out like a lamb
Or
in like a lamb out like a lion
Extremely tired so spend most of my time sleeping, either couch or bed. I thought I had enough wool to do one of those shawls i did for myself for mom, ‘ it from time to time but ran out at cuff so likely won’t get it done to sent home with Brian who is visiting her Monday.. have other white wool but don’t want to use something that will look a tone different.
Omg omg been watching, listening to a forensic show about a young boy and how deathly he became, they could not with all the specialists figure it out, finally diagnosed as e-coli 157
After having a brush with death, 7 operations he still lives, lost lung use, kidney damage and heart, doctors still didn’t know where he got it, when he finally came back from nearly dying he told his dad he knew where he got it, apparently the night before parent picked him up from camp his chore was to cook hamburgers, he was hungry and all the boys were saying hurry, hurry so off went the cooked hamburger patties leaving one ready to go on grill so he ate it.. Lordy you all know how I love my raw hamburger, except since my being so ill last year after indulging in a good portion of raw hamburger as I would rather eat hamburger raw than cooked.
After watching this documentary I think it finally sunk in BUT still crave it
I’d be cuddled into bed had I not washed all the bedding and waiting for the dryer to stop, might have to set the timer for another 20 minutes or so as comforters are so heavy.
omg Betty - eating raw hamburger? I'm surprised at this. I didn't think anyone would eat any meat raw (not a fan of rare steaks, either).
Oh gosh, I hope you don't close the site. I really only post in 3 places and this thread is my favourite of all three. I would sincerely MISS chatting with you ladies. I was already having withdrawals when I was having tech troubles posting awhile back. It's fine, now, but please don't take away this thread.
Morning, still storming, calling for rain/sleet so that would cause a heck of a mess.
Susan, I think a lot of people like raw meat, more than one would think, remember when I was young and grandma made sausage I would grab some of the meat before she would add it to the casing.
Have been up since 3:30am, as i got a call at 8pm asking if the water heater people could come at 8am this morning versus Monday so I said yes, shovelled
Clean out that stairwell 8n basement that houses the hot water heater then got the craft room organized, hadn’t been done since January 27th after kids craft and my falling ill,so pleased I am back on track.
Going to make breakfast then start my day, 3 student today so unless someone cancels I will be working til 3pm. Had weather been nicer think Linda, Sharon, Suzanne and I would have gone to Barrie and ate at Red Lobster, will see, might be a last minute decision.
Guess now all my chores are done I should fill myself with porridge as I don’t usually have lunch on Saturdays
Enjoy your day
I'm here. I always check in at least once a day, but, usually at work, and I struggle to post things from my phone. I'll make an effort to post more, I'd hate to see this end. I do miss Dianne and Sharon, and hope they're okay.
Not much going on here. We had 60 degrees yesterday, back in the 20's this morning. 60's were nice, but, I'm glad the ground froze up again. There are chunks of mud all over the kitchen that the dogs tracked in yesterday. You can guess what today's plans are.
Betty, I don't know anyone who eats raw meat. Maybe cooked medium rare, but all of my meat has to be well done.
Glad to hear he survived.
I usually check in at least once a day, but there are some days we get busy running around and I forget.
Deb, I hear you on the mud. It's the same here. With our 3 dogs.
Happy birthday Betty.
Have a wonderful day.
Happy Birthday, Betty!!
So sorry, just super busy but I would hate to see the thread go away!!!
Let's pray the thaw is slow Betty, you sure don't need the extra stress of the sump pump.
Susan, you were blessed regarding your friend's cane!
Linda, I'm with you although I do like medium rare steak. My mother gagged at the thought of raw cookie dough. I KNOW it's NOT a good idea but....
Sharon, ( friend from my church, before I moved to Pasco with Marie,) died last Saturday, her funeral will be next Saturday . A sewing buddy Linda (just 59!) is in the hospital and they will let her die on Monday and harvest the organs for donation. She had a failed brain surgery. I called Rheta to tell her Sharon has passed away and Rheta was in the hospital with blood clots!
Marie & I finished reorganizing the longarm room, and sorting the quilt backs. We rehomed any extras, I have been piecing quilt tops and doing some longarm work. My latest project did not go well, and it took me HOURS to pick out the thread. I am trying to get up my courage to try again. My machine seems to be a thread snob and ONLY like Glide. I have now sorted out ANY other brand. It's not worth the headache.
I am still working on the Sasquash quilt. My SIL Sharon had to cancel on me last week and I really would prefer to do the Sasquash block WITH her as I think she will have difficulty doing it alone. I have all 14 of the big tree blocks done and I am just waiting to assemble the Sasquash so I can put it all together.
The weather here has turned warm, several days in the 60s. I need to sort and cut the denim for jean quilts but the weather has created a siren song for me!
ohmygoodness, Pat - so many people in your circle with health problems! Arm Wraps to you, dear. Busy you, with quilt stuff! Glad your weather has warmed up. Maybe Mother Nature is back on her meds lol
Yesterday I cleared out 2 bookcases (one of chipboard, very light, and one of solid oak very heavy. The light one went out on the back deck to be tossed when I can find someone to take it to the dump. The oak one (71" tall) I moved from my bedroom to where the light one was, into my den whose floor is a 6 1/2" drop. It was interesting bringing it down, and BOY did I feel strong that I was able to do it on my own!! Just call me Superwoman! Took about 10 min to get it through the bedroom doorway, a few feet down the hall, then down into the den. It fit perfectly in the new area and now my bedroom isn't so cluttered.
Now, to sort through a BUNCH of material (in a wooden bin in my bedroom) & find homes in drawers for it all.
Tonight I'm cooking myself a sirloin steak that I bought from a local butcher. Looking forward to it :)
Sorry to hear of your losses and illness Pat.
Sending prayers for all.
Goodness Susan. You have been busy, rearranging things.
Here's to Superwoman Susan! It does feel good to be able to do a difficult heavy task.
Marie and I are constantly trying to find a balance between what we want to keep & what we have room for.
Good morning everyone.
Hope you are all well, and your weather is improving.
We had a little rain yesterday. Today will be cloudy, and 79 degrees.
79??? HOLY cow Linda, that is great! We got overcast but mild, I'll take it!
I struggled with the fleece backed throw blanket. I was trying to learn to do separate design on the borders and corners on the longarm. I had to resort mostly to free motion. It is not as nice/perfect as I wanted but at least I am starting the binding. The cat voted for no more work tonight.
I am embarrassed to admit, I had the quilt centers in my car. I stopped to mail them out and was told I could not do it from local location, but I have to go to the main office and it was closed for the day. I will do that tomorrow. I am sorry for the delay. It was my carelessness
Good morning! More 50's and rain here. I don't think the mud will ever dry up.
Got Luca's eye test results, everything is good. It's the last of the health tests the Afghan Hound Club of America requires of it's members before we do any breeding. Not that anyone has expressed interest, but, he's ready, just in case!
Hope everyone has a good day!
Deb - glad that Luca's ready & his test results are good. What interests you, interests us. That's why we're here - to share our lives with each other. /thanks for sharing.
Nice weather, Linda! You could share some with us lol
Pat, don't worry, they'll get here when they get here. That being said, it looks like the Post Office may strike again, in May.
Off to coffee time
Deb, I am guessing eye problems are common in your breed of dog?
Anyone heard from Betty.
Praying she is not back in the hospital.
Deb, that's great news, all is well with the pups.
She posted on one of my FB posts, but didn't reply to my query about her not posting on DG
Thanks Susan.
That's really nice, Pat!
The eye test is for Juvenile Cataracts, I've only known of one person that had that in a dog, and that was back in the 70's. Other tests are for hip dysplasia and thyroid issues. Not planning any puppies with him right now, but, he's ready if the right girl comes along!
Beautiful quilt Pat.
Deb, it's crazy what a dog owner has to do, to have them bred or place in a dog show.
That is SO nice, Pat! What size will it be?
Betty did reply on a post, as I see that you saw, Linda Kay. Glad to know that it was her being busy, but not ill.
Got my oil changed, and brake fluid topped up. Apparently there's a leak somewhere and the brake fluid is slowly leaking. They were looking for the leak but couldn't find it, so if the brake fluid light comes on I should stop into the mechanic. I'll have my oil checked every 1,000km, too, just to make sure.
I'll head into Calgary on Friday, to pick up Bill's cane (yes, they definitely found it), and on Saturday to Olds to pick up a smaller desk ($20) for the birds' cage. The large office desk takes up too much space.
Good news and bad news, the centers have been mailed to Susan. The bad news? I won't be organizing a block exchange. Mailing the 3 centers to Canada was $46.40. The cost of postage is ridiculous.
I answered your post in the Round Robin thread. I MAY have an answer to the cost of mailing. You'll have to check that thread to see what you think lol
