Best/Worse/what did I learn Today? Come sit awhile and share you day..newcomers always welcome!

Victoria Harbour, ON

It’s along the east coast Lindakay, having visited there several times I can only think of of those fishing towns, homes build down by the ocean..was just watching some of the damage, not good..sure hope no deaths

Fell asleep so downstairs I go, likely take me an hour then bedtime

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I went to the quilt shop and helped a lady thin out her stash! LOL... also got a new cutting mat at Joann's for 40% off plus 20% off for ordering online & picking up at the store. Look at the pretty new pink cutting mat! Stanley approves. I was unable to pass up fabric to use for backings when I got 4 yards for $12, or 5 for $20, etc... Do you see the skull motif in the black & white in the 4th photo?

No, I don't, Pat.
Good buy!! And to help someone lessen their stash!! Wow, that's awesome!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful fabrics Pat. Love the pink cutting mat too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, overcast then rain will be todays weather.

Wow Pat, lucky you..i am envious of the fabric you got, what i would give, my stash with all these kids learning to sew I’ve really depleted my stash..must make a request on out VHH site asking if anybody has any I can really use some.

Looking at the clock i see that I should be downstairs welcoming the kids that are coming for crafts, have a slightly smaller class this morning to make sure i have extra time to see what problems I might have but am sure these kids will get through it no problem,, have the 2nd class at 1:00..11 little ones then Sunday maybe 10

Darlene wanted to come this morning but in moving furniture she twisted her back..wasn’t for the help really it was to spend time together as another 3 weeks they will be heading back to florida for the winter

Best I run

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

That is a LOT of kids Betty. I am sorry that Darlene is not keeping you company.

The quilt show was actually part of a downtown "fair" with lots of different vendors and even a break-dancing competition. The music was CRANKED up so loud, it was awful. This was only the 2nd annual show. I was disappointed that more quilters did not enter their quilts in the challenge. We can start getting our quilts back on Monday and find out who won. Later today I will try to post some pictures of the competitors & displayed quilts.

Susan, the skulls are easier to see in the 2nd pic. Bottom furtherest right. Within each of the black fluer is a LARGE skull I did not see them originally when I bought the fabric because I viewed the directional fabric upside down. In my 2nd pic, I have the fabric laying right side up. There are sweeping black arcs away from the skull are like hair.

I have REALLY been trying to avoid buying fabric but when I could get enough for backings that cheap, and honestly had quilts in planning stages that needed those colors, I could not pass them up. The lady said this is the 2nd year she has rented a booth and sold off excess fabric. She had a friend with her, I don't know if ALL the fabric was 1 ladies', or both.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I looked at the 4th pic & didn't see it, but I do, in the 2nd pic. Which way are you going to use the fabric, or only portions so you don't actually see the skull? Maybe you want to see the skull for Hallowe'en lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I will use the regular directional way. The quilt I make will likely be for teens and they would think it's cool. I showed it to my grandson, he did!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

These are images of some of the quilts entered into the Challenge quilt contest. They have not announced the winner but I have been lead to believe that it was one that I did not take a picture of. Not one I particularly liked. Sorry, I still only have a picture of mine from BEFORE was complete. I will post AFTER I get it back from the store.

There were a lot of quilts that I liked but I only took pictures of a couple that I thought I might sketch and try to make a similar pattern from. the quilts were all hung outside so it did not make great picture taking when they were on the closed, tree lined streets.
THESE are not quilts entered into the challenge competition. The 5 I took pictures of, posted above, were some I liked. There were total of only about 25 quilts entered into the competition.

Lots of happy crafters.

They all look proud of their projects.

Well....we are home. What a fun and busy week. Weather was beautiful until the 22 and with the arrival of fall, the temps did too. Good thng i took plenty of warm clothes.
We put our offer on the condo and it was immediately accepted. Now going through all the jumping through hoops. In the final stages of approval so we should know very soon is all is going to close here. The appliances at the condo are very dated. We went to Lowes and picked out new and took those prices plus what we will need to refurbish the deck and reduced his asking by that much.
The floors are all beautiful old hardwood except for our bedroom. Wish we could get that room done before moving in but just cannot happen. Closing is supposed to be the 13 of Oct. here and will be a day or two later up there. We are still checking options and costs to determine the best way to actually make the move.
One of our great granddaughters is a sophmore and on the swim team. My kids were swimmers so we were happy it worked out we could attend a meet. I cannot believe how fast that girl is. She was first by a wide margin in every event. We keep telling her she takes after her grandpa and great aunt Becky and will soon be on the record board as they were. The kicker? by birth she is a step but that has never figured in our family.
The wedding was at a barn venue and outside. It was so cold I was miserable and we left early. We stayed long enough to visit a bit with my friend and her kids. There were heaters scattered around the barn but never turned on. I know most aren't as cold as me.
Sat. the online auction site we go to ha a customer appreciation open house. Lots of great bargains to be found. Fun meeting in person with the people we are bidding against too.
Jess and her hubby spend time on his Harley. I got him a black leather jacket for these cooler days. It's in perfect condition and the fit was great too. Cost? $8. Then I won $5.on a scratch off lotto ticket I got in a drawing.
Good trip home today, rain off and on but not too bad. Now we wait with crossed fingers.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, That is good news all around. Praying you get help with the moving part.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

HOW exciting Karen!!! I can't wait to see pics when you get settled in. I hope you also take some "before" and "after" pics.

It looks like I have "renters" and they will be here a few months for sure. I had put a halt to all my "adjustments" when it looked like they were going to have a place to move to. There is some credit history from ALMOST 7 years ago that has not dropped off the credit report. So, although their credit scores are good, the poor past history is weighing them down. Oh well. I am dealing with it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear that Pat. I know you were looking forward to getting your home back to yourself.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, I am disappointed, but I will make the best of it and use the rent money the pay for things that I wanted to do at the house but couldn't afford.

I won 3rd place in the Challenge quilt. There was only a 4 point spread between 1st place and 3rd. I feel pretty good about it. 2nd place was that Scottie dog with the gray background that I posted earlier. I never even took a picture of the 1st place winner because I didn't like it, it was a cute gimmick though. They made a space ship and were "beaming up" a cow. The title of the quilt was "Abduction of Bessie".

Congratulations, Pat!
Yeah, cutsie isn't quite my thing. I prefer more traditional quilting, which includes crazy quilts.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Congratulations Pat. I love your quilt.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

thank you

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, it had to be you. Thank you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Almost evening and aa day later, weather isn’t the best.

Well Karen, is everything a go? So happy for you, know how you love being closer to family.

Have a wee one coming for 4 to sew so can’t be long gabbing away!
omg..after weekend’s crafting with the young I’m beat but not giving up.

Not sure in my previous post if I told you all that I heard from Destiny asking if Grayson’s costume will be ready for this weekend for camp site Halloween?? When Melanie asked if i would make a costume nobody said for a month before…yesterday morning i went to Barrie and bought the fabric $50 later headed home and no sooner came in I had company, they left then I swept a big bag at least of cinnamon from tables and floors.

Today, I had company then cut out some of the costume out, went to Foodland. Was hankering for a salad. Big sigh, mega $$ when shopping in the vegetable department right?

Had a nap and I would like to say I am full of energy now but no

Pat, you did very well, want to go back and look at photo’s which I will after posting or I will lose this post but will examine it like and judge and wonder why you didn’t get a first lol

Sure hoping nothing wrong with Dianne, Sharon , Liz and Debbie..could you all just post a ‘hi’ and anyone else I may have forgotten.

Ohh one of the ladies that works with the Mayor dropped in today to show me where the township is offering community grants for those groups that work for benefit of all. She told Janet I should apply that even a bit of the grant could help me, with what I’m doing for area kids..left an application but truly it’s meant for organizations so i don’t think I should apply but is nice that my work with kids is being acknowledged.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

There was no "judge", it was strictly by the people who came to the fair. They put on their form which of the challenge quilts they liked best. Each quilt had an entry number on it.
I think applying for a grant would be a good idea, like you said, the application might be rejected because are 1 community member, not an organization.

Our "group" tried using a couple of the local facilities to make the blankets the group was making & donating. We were told since we were not a "formal group", just a bunch of volunteers, they would not allow us to use the space. I thought that was kind of funny. What? We need to come up with a name and list of members??? LOL. It's just a bunch of women (ANYONE can come, who comes changes all the time) that get together when we have a volunteer to teach a class or we have a local need we want to help with. We bring the supplies at our cost. We get no financial help from anyone. We donate what we make.... and you can't let us use the free space? Whatever. We used to rent an old fire station, but the price has doubled.
Did you JUST find out they want Grayson's costume THIS weekend?? I would have presumed for 10/31, but 10/1??? YIKES!

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Sorry I've been missing. I have been checking in, but, haven't been on the computer much at home, and trying to type anything on my phone is difficult.

I was planning on doing a breeding with one of my girls, but, that fell through. After a couple weeks of 3-4 hour round trip drives to the vet for progesterone testing, my experienced proven stud dog turned out to be a dud, and there wasn't time to come up with a Plan B dog, so we wait again. Maybe spring 2023 will work out. The past few weeks have been stressful with the two boys yipping and howling because of Charlotte in season.

One of the drives back from the vet, the service transmission light came on for a few seconds. Just got a call from the dealer today, $3200!! I really don't need that, but, what do you do. I can't afford a new car, so, it gets fixed.

Next week is our National specialty in Ohio, so, I'll be heading there on Monday. I'm so looking forward to that. I'm taking the little rescue girl I picked up a couple weeks ago (because I really needed that, but, what do you do, when you're told someone needs to get her or she's going in a shelter). She's very sweet, and we have a home lined up for her, but, not having luck finding her transportation. Pilots 'N Paws had 3 volunteers to fly a leg of her trip, but, the guy that signed up for the 3rd leg never left his contact information, so that fell through. We;ve got another pilot that will take her all the way to Colorado, but not until late Oct.

Gotta run, just heard a water bucket get tipped over, I just filled it about a half hour ago. Boys!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Dealer repairs are usually more expensive. Try to find a trusted transmission shop. We have local FB sites we can ask for the best palces for different repairs.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I was recommended to go with a dealer, because with the Ford Transit, the subframe needs to be unbolted to get to the transmission pan. The engine needs to be supported. The transmission shop that my mechanic recommended said he wouldn't touch it.

Verona, ON

Glorious Autumn day here. The leaves are just now starting to turn. Even the swamp Maples which usually start to go red in late August are just starting to turn red.

Pat I really liked your quilt. Enjoyed seeing your other photos of quilts.

Nothing much going on here. I haven't started my outside cleanup but tomorrow I might shovel some pea gravel around to a spot that needs some.

Betty I was at Foodland today and you are so right about the prices. Salad fixings are expensive. I usually buy the bag of Foodland green salad. I heard on the news, have seen it in the stores and also watching for roadside stands there is a Squash shortage. I usually like to get a few different types of Squash and store them for the winter.

Deb I thought about you and your pups on the weekend while AKC Fastest Dog races. There were 2 Afghans racing. It was quite a sight watching them run as it was waves of gorgeous fur. I understand about you taking in the sweet female - I would do the same.

LK I am so happy to read you are getting back into working on your sewing. How is Todd doing ?

Susan how many sleeps before you go on your trip ?

Karen how many days before you move ? You must be excited and also relieved about your move.

Zeke is just a bundle of energy which I love. He's got into a couple of things in the house. I laugh when I walk into the room where he has been as he just looks guilty even when he has not done anything wrong. We only got 2 walks in today so I will have to play a couple of games with him to help him work off his energy. I am so happy he makes Chaos get up and go.

My goodness Destiny has no idea how much goes into a costume for Grayson. I too would have thought it was for Halloween.

Stay safe and well.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, with all you are doing, I would have told her it takes time. She should have given you more notice.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Dianne............ 12 more sleeps!! By the time you read this tomorrow morning, it may be 11 sleeps!
