Betty I should have warned you about what to expect with the MRI. I have had so many that for me it is just like getting an xray. They should have plugged your ears and then put on head phones. I always get to pick what music to listen to while the MRI is doing its thing. The wedge for your head is standard procedure. It sure is noisy even with the headphones. It's too bad your doc didn't give you a mild sedative to take right before the MRI. Good for you sticking it out. Sure hope you get some news too.
Bitter cold here and the TH will have to be happy playing in their enclosure. The other night I put them out about 11 went back to bed and fell asleep. Woke up a few hours later feeling very cold. Kai had got the door open and the 2 of them were on the bed. I must teach that boy how to close the door.
It's -9F here so might wait and see if it warms up enough to walk the TH. I have long underwear and thermal socks and an old so horrible looking fur hat with ear flaps.
Beautifully preserved butterfly Sharon. I would imagine one doesn't see that often.
Need to get myself moving and get something done although it feels like a day for reading. The TH are with me on the bed and haven fallen back to sleep.
Stay safe, warm and well.
Best/Worse/Whar did I learn Today? Chat with friends newcomers always welcome..come sit a spell!!
Morning, same weather here Dianne, it’s a cold one..when the TH prefers to sleep in means best you do as well. Usually always somebody walking but don’t see many today.
I have had mri before and knew what to expect, knew i wouldn’t like it..doctor gave me two pills, seeing Sharon was going to drive me i was going to take one when i left for hospital and one for when I arrived but with Sharon not her best i drove myself..there was no music seeing i just had earplugs..i barely could make out when she said ‘all done’ but sure hoped that was what she was saying… lol. She said 5-10 days before i get my results.
Sun is so shinning, think i will make a western sand which then rest, who knows, maybe a nap..
Glad your MRI is done, Betty. Now, to wait. If there's a problem, I'm sure they'll tell you sooner, rather than later. No news is good news :)
Day 5 of no hot water. Pipe's frozen, so no showers, or doing dishes, and no water at all in the bathroom means I haul water to the toilet tank to flush.
It's warmer now - was -45c the other day, now "only" -23c with "feels like" -29c. Sunny, but very cold. It's warming up. We're supposed to have a Chinook, and go to +6c on Jan 12th. (that's +43F to all you Southerners). Even Monday it will be +37F, so the pipes should thaw by then. The plumber came yesterday, and suggested a space heater for the area around the hot water tank. That didn't work, so he's returning today. I have cold water in the kitchen, but nowhere else. That means no showers, or doing dishes...... Twice before they froze, and I got them started again. Not this time though. He's suggested I insulate in the area where the tank is, and I believe I have some insulated house wrap in the shed. (the kind with the foil on one side).
Oh Susan, I sure can sympathize with you and your house problems, hard for sure when all responsibility is on us....is that unusually cold for you? Know you did, but i found when i had trouble with water freezing in the winter i left water running ever so lightly, almost like a drip that way the movement kept it from freezing.
Because I could not wear headset yesterday for mri i could hear all kinds of sounds, so i pretended i was counting sump pump timings lol. Sad right??
It’s a quiet lonely kind of day today, Ziggy is beside me trying to encourage me to pet, about as much excitement there is here.
Could be in craft room, much todo but i just took out some wool fabric and might ply with making a mug Matt.
Betty, I am so glad you managed to get the MRI done. I was worried it would be canceled because of staffing issues.
25 years ago, I had cosmetic tattooing done, upper and lower eyeliner. There is sooooo little left, (unless you are under a magnifier glass you can't see any!) I don't know if I could have an MRI or not now. It was expensive (and super painful!) and I did not realize when I made the choice that it would prevent an MRI.
When I lived in a split-level house, the pipes froze EVERY year. We finally built kind of a box/ extension to the overhang of the upper story to allow more insulation and that did the trick.
I only did an hour of reading before last night but still didn't get the things I needed done during the day. (Reading during the day is a major obstacle to getting thinghs done.) Maybe today will be better. With the new year our church time changed to 10:30. I got up and shortened a dress to wear. I am grateful for the black tights I have!
The snow is gone but it's COLD out there. I have not been out of the house, except to take the garbage out, since Tuesday when I picked up groceries. This week will be different. I have lunch plans with a former co-worker who moved out of state, DDS appointment regarding the dental implant and fabric shopping with a child-hood friend on Wednesday. If Marie is available, I will see her on Thursday.
Afternoon..
Cold but storm is brewing, nice to look out at but even nicer on the couch with fireplace on..wind is strong, white ours, this winter right?
That is a busy week Pat, must be nice to get out, back to the norm.. not so here
Unless absolutely necessary I will stay in, made it this far without Covid might as well not take chances. Ohh to go spent time from fabric shop to fabric shop..what joy that would be.
I’m making a little mug rug holder, quilted and put together another snowman pillow, embroidery part was already done, did a tad of work on Grayson’s grow chart, came up for left over omelette and potatoes, put a roast on..knew i shouldn’t put my feet up, takes all my energy away…drats why did I do that??
Most energetic I will get this afternoon is to get an Afghan and cover myself up.
Oh, a nice warm soft Afghan sounds so good! I have a soft plush blanket I use; it has a sherpa like backing so I always put in plush side against my skin. I LOVE the way it feels.
Greg and Mel dropped in for an hour, they were on their way to Kyle‘s for a visit with Grayson. Greg tried to get my generator after he and Mel moved it upstairs on the back deck.. going but couldn’t so after half an hour said he’d send his mechanic over one day this week, thought it is either a spark plug or carborator..
not worried if power goes out as sump pump doesn’t go on much during these sub zero temps..next time it comes on I will time it.. of course I’d freeze with hydro so best i not jinx it.
Wonder how Suzanne is making out with her frozen water situation??
We all have our comfy blankets, love those throws you’re talking about Pat, it sure feels nice and toasty under them. I just climbed into bed, watching a movie ..
seems that this weekend is never ending.
Snow is not accumulating right now but with wind it’s white outs.
Drats, got into bed without the blanket foot support, hate to get out of bed to get it..thermostat says 73 but it feels more like 53 in here..i will get it next washroom break.
My foot support always stays on my bed. It looks a bit funny but just Walt and I up her anyhow.
Two friends in the other room lost their dads today. Both had been involved in their care. This year is not starting out to be a very good one.
Sorry to hear that Karen. Sending our condolences.
How are your legs doing?
I'm walking a bit better. Still wobbly and will use my cane out of the house but I think I can maybe get to the basement to sew. I have a couple tee-shirt quilts I promised. I really want to try and do them and after that....who knows.
Glad to see post Karen, I understand the desire to get the quilts done.
NEVER easy to lose a friend or family member.
Morning, don’t know what is happening in my world as you can’t see across the street for a blizzard..bet Greg it thrilled to get that new machine of his out..even Ziggy is looking out, not quite understanding why i am not letting him out..
Was half way typing when i heard my young man come and do the back area. He said the main plow guy during the night must have done the drive but it’s covered again..am sure he will be back..what a great feeling to say good morning , smile as i am saying it and not having to shovel, my muscles are so relieved..
Karen, condolences on the loss of the loss of your friends dads. After about 1/2 hour feet were paining so did get up and put the support on the bed, what a difference it makes. Do hope you get to go downstairs and sew a bit..you should get a chair lift, at least it wouldn’t take everything out of your just to do the trek. Who will these be for, t-shirt quilts are usually much heavier to work with so will tire you out more quickly.
Just have buttons to put on the Valentine’s coffee mug rug, then i will see if I’ve enough batting for the last snowman pillow i did yesterday..enough of those..should see how much work is on putting pockets on aprons Frank needs, he is closed Monday and Tuesday’s, likely take me that long to get done, during breaks i can work on Grayson’s fabric Growth Chart..that will allow me to scratch a few things if my January list if MUST do’s.
For today my daily task is to dust my living room pictures, ought to use up 10 minutes of my day lol
Your plan for the day??
I saw something on Facebook that made me laugh "My style of housekeeping can best be described as "There appears to have been a struggle"". With me if it more like "I don't know... maybe her vacuum cleaner exploded and sent that dust everywhere?"
Lunch with former co-worker today. I need to be home for Aiden by 3.15, otherwise I would be planning a visit to see Marie right afterwards.
Cute…i am usually on top of things but guess I’ve not been on top of picture frames lol
Enjoy your outing Pat.
Lightly snowing but dark sky is warning that more snow is coming.
Joe did steps and back area, Jules did driveway, Marie did where garbage cans are for garbage pick up tomorrow, had she not I’d never get them to roadside, she even did a pathway for me to get into my side of the car..
I will have lunch then fo clean off my car and move it so next time Jules comes with the plow he can clean that side,,
Betty, you are made of hardier stuff than I am!!! I am so glad you are getting help with the snow.
I finally got a few things done, hemmed another dress. Got Marie's serger cover done. The side are quite stiff with 2 layers of adhesive batting, the front & back have just regular batting. I had to make all 4 sides decorative as her machine sits on the peninsula of her sewing room and visible from 3 sides. The sides are SO BIG, I didn't want them plain (and I didn't want to use up more of Marie's B&W fabric!) it is shown standing up on its own, on my sewing table. .
That would be hard making without the unit itself, however if memory serves me right you have one the same right?
I just came in, wasn’t easy getting the car out of that bank..was able to rock it back a d forth, got it out and started to shovel that big wedge and area, got that part 1/2 done then the plow guy came and finished..can’t believe that Joe was here at 7am, i got up to my steps done when Joe came back a d pushed all back..thought i lost one of my good mitts, fingers frozen, can’t feel them
Thank god for Marie next door, she shovelled from shovelled entire area where garbage bins and a wide area on drivers side so i could get in..
When Jules who does main drive came I pulled my car into lot next door, everything is so white didn’t notice the bank, took me forever to get out of it..thank goodness for the roof cleaner or I’d never have cleaned off, i so need an overhang
This year I said once all the Christmas totes were in back shed I’d not clear a path to it, no chance of that, bank is so high..
Time for hot chocolate and toast
Tub is running, hot bath will make me feel toasty.
Just started to snow again
Sure hope Dianne didn’t get this massive fall of snow!
Marie's serger is ONE model newer, same basic body.
Well she will appreciate the time you put into the project
Beautiful cover Pat.
Betty that photo is beautiful. Please keep that snow up your way.
Any results on your MRI?
After 4 1/2 days of no hot water (only ice water in the kitchen, not the bathroom at all), putting a space heater near the hot water tank did the job. It only took about 10 hours cuz I wasn't having the heater too close to the pipes in case they burst. Felt good to be able to shower, do laundry, and dishes again!!
At times duirng the week the temperature went to -39 (C&F are the same at that temp) and I heard it was -45celsius with the windchill.
Betty - do you have the results of the MRI?
-39?? As in 39 below ZERO?? oh my goodness!!!
Morning..
Lindakay and Susan, likely won’t get results of MRI until next week, IF they have anything to report.
Just got in from shovelling, 2-3” so manageable and quick seeing it’s -39..yep, put a minus before the 39..you work at warp speed when it’s that cold..had to throw garbage bins on their side in order to open, fill and get to the roadside..I am in for the day that’s for sure.
Pat & June said they would come this morning but i doubt they will.
Think i will start my vehicle, let it run for a bit
Coffee sure taste good, warms the tummy.
Brrrrr It is -26 on the lake side deck. It's too cold to do much outside. I run out get an armful of wood and rush back inside.
We had a huge snow fall then a dose of freezing rain on top of it.
Pat even though I don't know what a serger is the cover is lovely.
I have field tests for my eyes tomorrow at Hotel Dieu in Kingston. A friend is going to drive me as I can't drive after I have the tests. Then in a week I see the ocular specialist.
Has anyone heard from Judy ?
The TH are wired for sound today. Although I was happy to see Chaos leading Kai on a merry chase in the house. It was so great to see Chaos moving fast I didn't stop them. I've hung up my doorman uniform for today and won't be putting it back on until about 5 pm. It is just too cold to walk.
Better get off of here and get my floors done. I sure miss my cleaning lady.
Stay safe, warm and well.
Yes, Pat - below zero. It was COLD!!!
Thank goodness for quilted lap blankets!
Much the same here Dianne except we didn’t get freezing ra8n night before last.
Good day for you to let the dogs enjoy their inside running, that way you can keep an eye on them.
Glad you have someone to drive you, nothing more frustrating as to not have someone to drive you.
Just got a call to say my new eye glasses are in..told her if weather ok I will come in Friday as i need to do groceries…was hoping doctor would call, don’t know why as mri attendant said likely 10 days.
Cooking late lunch but early supper
Feeling tired so maybe once i eat I will have a nap
I have DDS at 2.30 but I think I will make a QUICK run out to Marie's. I REALLY want her to open her Loralie box.
There will be a lot of oohs and ohhhs & ohhh’s for sure..lol
That way too cold for these old bones.
Susan, glad you finally have water.
I haven't heard from Judy since Christmas. She is doing well after her vein surgery on her legs. Still needs to get her right side coratid surgery done.
You never REALLY appreciate our modern conveniences until we don't have them!!! The "good old days" included outhouses; I am NOT a fan!!! Give me indoor plumbing, no more roughing it for me!
Yep, I made a special trip out to Marie's. I had retaped the box (but not wrapped it). She saw it was Loralie and about stroked out doing the happy dance!!! It was SOOOO much fun to see her unfolding and sorting it all. She was sooo happy with it. THAT was one of the best "guess-gifts" I have EVER made!!
There was ONE small piece that was about 6 WOF, everything else was well over 1/2 a yard, many close to a yard. Duplicate remnants of some (red background holly, green & black bias stripe, for instance). GREAT variety and only 2 pieces that I think we would have a hard time using, as none of the family are golfers.
$65 for about 10# (about 30 yards) of fabric. BEST $65 I have EVER spent! Beautiful, high-quality fabric. All of Loralie's designs incorporate colors that blend across the collections. So, no matter what collection you have, if it has "turquoise" in it, the turquoise of another collection with go with it etc.
OK don't know how this will go but tomorrow Walt and I are going to the mall and try to walk a bit. I'm still shaky but doing better. Walking around here is not an option. We are in the middle of a steep hill. At least at the mall we can be warm and dry and go at our own pace. We are going to try to go three days a week and see how it works out. There are plenty of benches too if we need them.
There used to LOTS of Mall-walkers here. I don't know if there are still or not. I think it is an EXCELLENT idea for all the reasons you listed: dry, warm & plenty of benches to rest on!
Guess all that work you put into the project was well worth it Pat..the joy on her face was I’m sure duplicated on yours.
Fabric is getting out of hand here, we might have to go back to cutting up our old clothing like they did in days of old NOT lol
Karen, it’s a terrific idea, will get you out and get you exercising a bit.bbt here are many of our malls that open an hour earlier for mall walkers. Udon to them. We’re you able to do some sewing yesterday as you had hoped?
I finished a little panel to use up some children’s fabric I had and at the same time make a little chart for Grayson’s growing each 1 inch line across that’s been divided represents three months. I will include a non-erasable pen So they can mark the information. Was just something to keep me busy for a few hours lol
Yes Marie liked her serger cover but she was over the moon about her Loralie scrap bag box.
Loralie? Is that a US thing? Sounds like fun!!
I'm thinking that I'd like to get a Serger, but I can't find one in my area.
Don't feel like going to Red Deer or Olds just for that.
I'll have to check online for both Loralie's, and a serger.
Good chilly afternoon.
Pat I can actually feel your excitement over your gift to Marie. What a wonderful surprise. You made me smile.
Just back from a trip into Kingston. I had my field tests for my eyes this morning. Our friend Frank drove me in and then we hit up a couple of grocery stores and Canadian Tire. It was great to have some company. I wouldn't have bothered if I was by myself. The 'eye' floor was basically empty. Usually you have to stand or sit on the floor as it is so busy. I see the specialist on Monday.
At Pet Smart I was able to get several toys for Kai at half price. I'll just hide them for a rainy day. I just have to make sure Kai doesn't see me when I do it.
Good for you Karen !!! Mall walking is very popular here. Not so sure they can do it now but I see no reason why not.
Betty I hope you get some more photos of Grayson. I love the name !! Are Jeff and Greg in the middle of their adventure. The sledding people here who bought a trail pass are up in arms as a couple of farmers recinded their approval for their land to be part of the trail. They didn't say anything until after the closure date for getting trail permits.
Susan it was good to see you post.
