Wow, seems everyone is having unusual weather patter..
Did good this morning, ate lunch then covered myself with a blanket, still freezing
Pat, think it’s a damp col, hard on the nones
Lindakay did your son go home
Best/Worse/Whar did I learn Today? Chat with friends newcomers always welcome..come sit a spell!!
Yes, they left yesterday afternoon. Got about 5 hours from here and weather turned into freezing rain. So they stopped in Lubbock for the night. Got up this morning and drove the rest of the way home.
I HATE freezing rain. Snow doesn't scare me much, but I have a big fear of the freezing rain!
Glad they were able to find a place to spend the night..had an accident in freezing rainstorm, terrifies me
Just got a call, longtime friends have Covid, Nancy is home but Joe is not doing well in hospital
My daughter, Tracy, turns 60 today. They are bringing over dinner so I do not need to leave the house. It is only about 5 miles from me, but they are always very considerate of me. And I am so thankful for that. Tracy's oldest sons go back to college later in the week. They graduate this year. Youngest son leaves on his mission on Jan 24th. That will be the first time they have not had someone home.
We have been in the low 30s high 20s and that is raising hell with my garden. I had some beautiful Crown of Thorns that I think are toast. My cat Peanut goes outside and about 10 minutes later wants back in.
I have a very weird apprehensive feeling but cannot put my finger on why.
I drove over and looked at Step-son's condo area. He will be here at least 3 more months. They are just beginning tearing down the two major burnt ones. They have to tear them down so they can see what damage was done to the other two condos walls and roof.
One brother lives in Reno and one lives in our home town of Pioche. Both got loads of snow. My brothers are such sweet individuals. One in Reno has a grader and plowed out many driveways in their rural area. Other brother got a crew together and dug out elderly individuals driveways all over town. He is 78. I told him, he is elderly. My mom and dad were the same way, so they are just passing it on.
Betty, so sorry about your friends and Covid. That sinus infection I had for two weeks would have killed two of my neighbors if they had gotten it. I made sure they knew why I was not around. One is my dear friend and she told me a few months ago, she was ready to go see her husband in heaven. He has been gone 7 years. She has something wrong with her lungs. Grew up around mines and they think the tailing had arsenic in it. She is 85 and her sister is 83 and they both have the same problem.
Sharon, so sorry your party had so few attend. The guards told me yesterday that not one house in our neighborhood had a New Years Eve party.
We've started having freezing rain, sometime after 8.30 this morning. I have had to reschedule the mechanic working on my pickup again.
Sharon, your family is very blessed.
Evening all, been quite the day…big sigh
18f in my neck of the woods
I’ll start with saying Happy Birthday to Tracy, am sure you will enjoy your meal..nice that they live close enough that they can visit. Guess it’s better news Re your step-son being 3+ months vs demolishing the building.
Poor plants, weather is crazy all over..crown of thorns, will have to look that plant up..
What a wonderful family you have..you are indeed blessed.
Sharon they say Ontario will be like terrible over the next few months..we are back to 2nd phase as of Wednesday.. glad are are feeling better and yes, you are lucky your neighbours didn’t catch it. Today LeeAnn my niece said her son and husband have it, so far she is ok… Sharon’s daughter went for testing this morning, looks like she has it and pneumonia. Shaking my head..best stay in and without company until things improve..really only see Marie next door every day, Sharon and the sewing boys…Greg a few times a week but Lordy you have to have some human contact.
Yikes Pat, time to stay home when it’s freezing rain..
Sooo my day went like this…
Got up at 5:45, did my regular routine, turned tub on, made my bed, put water on for coffee..went to turn tub off and power went out..grrr
Sat for a few minutes hoping it would come on, thought why not have my bath seeing it’s hot, all of a sudden remembered the sump pump. Grabbed a pail and a cup and in my jammies laying on cement floor here i am scooping water, carrying it in the dark outside..once i got caught up with the flow i went and out the battery in generator..back in for more scooping..Brian had made an easy start but he was in a hurry, one of the wires he clamped..my putting battery in dislodges the clamp..darn
Couldn’t fix it, got plyers and duct tape and taped the plyers and wire to a piece of metal, not sure i was to do that..got it started, oh wow, it worked, i had power in kitchen, bedroom and pump room..sat for a bit because i was so sore and realized the generator wasn’t working.tried to start it a few times and was backfiring so back with the cup emptying the sump pump area and carrying the water container, by now i am so tired I’m dropping water all over, especially the steps going out of the basement..was so cold it froze immediately..then mire buckets but not without slipping..wasn’t sure about that secondary pump downstairs that is suppose to operate when no power, didn’t seem to work, thought maybe not on, think it was so turned the knob, could hear water movement, think it was filling the sump pump cavity vs emptying so more pails to go outside..by now i can barely lift, hip is out
Power comes on at 11:30am, some still had no power
Of course i NEVER ever use a cel, tried to and calls wouldn’t go through..had ti wait 2 1/2 hours fir Rogers to call me back and they couldn’t find the problem but the last guy said maybe sin card..call local Rogers, they said unless i had a plan they didn’t sell phones, go to Walmart or staples…seeping staples was right across the street from Rogers i went in, bought a phone, luckily there was an agent waiting to serve me..apparently Rogers changed providers a few years ago.I’ve been paying Rogers and Cher..wrong sin card, put new card in and works like a charm.
In the meantime Greg calls, i tell him my woes, off he goes to Barrie to buy a battery tender so i can leave the battery in the charger, switch instead of tape..asked why i didn’t call, no cel, Lordy did i hear about it..
Starting to turn dark, if he soon doesn’t get back i will go out, disconnect battery and cover generator til another day…
Just had bath as hot as i could stand it, barely move from hip pain and shoulder..Marie came over and saw the condition i was in and went and got me baked beans they had cooked for supper so i could just relax.
Quite the day..bet i won’t be moving tomorrow.
Know I’ll get the “it’s time to move into an apartment speech”
This message was edited Jan 3, 2022 5:50 PM
Oh Betty... I could not live in a place that had the sump pump problems and concerns that you have over and over. It might not be time for an apartment, but it sure is time for a housing situation that doesn't require you being up 1/2 the night every time the weather is lousy, or risk flooding AGAIN.
I pushed stuff around in my garage, got the nose of pickup into it, out of the rain. The mechanic came & fixed the transmission leak.
Tomorrow, I need to have Andrea at the hospital for a colonoscopy at 9.45. RIGHT now, the roads are not frozen, but they will be again in the morning. Guess we will cross all those bridges in the morning. I am concerned as I need to go up with her and stay the whole time. Between the asthma and my knees, GETTING to the department will be SLOW. I hope parking isn't too awful!!! Always before I had the extra "help" of Ben's handicap parking placard so at least I was guaranteed a closer parking spot.
I have not done any sewing since Christmas. I have done basically nothing but read and nap. I need to get productive.
Pat, your asthma and bad knees are plenty a reason to get your own parking placard. I have both the license plate and a placard I carry in my purse in case I'm in someone else's car. I don't always use them but when I have days I need them I do.
I hesitate to ask the doctor for them. Frankly, I don't get enough exercise and there are plenty of people who need the parking placard worse than me. Marie usually drives when we are together, and she does have the vehicle license plate due to her husband.
They canceled Adam's cohort at school for this entire week due to short staff and LOTS of make-up work/driving needed by other ongoing classes. They didn't need me to take Andrea for her testing as Adam could. I told him that since he has this week off, HE should plan on being the one taking Sam to her MD appt on Thursday, not me.
Morning..32F i think here today, Sharon just came for fabric i had she needed to finish a quilt and we were saying how Mother Nature is so screwed up.sun is shinning in front window, can’t do a lot today because body is not happy with me Re yesterday’s escapades to it is nice just looking out..
Hope you were able to get Andrea to the hospital for her test without having to worry about freezing rain.
I have a handicap sticker, don’t always use it but like this morning when my hip and arm are so bad i did use it. Was up early, for weeks now I’ve been tripping on back door entrance rug, corner lifter, had already turned it around, almost daily i nearly have a flip so ran into town and got a new one, could see myself head right into din8ng room table bench..getting wiser on my old age.
I cleaned my craft room a bit seeing the rest of the house got cleaned then brought fabric upstairs, figure because I’m stuck to the couch I’d work on Grayson’s growth chart and while at Walmart pick up red/white embroidery floss so maybe i can try and do a Valentine’s Day Penny rug just to fill in my day..can’t find my fabric wool, will keep searching, worse comes to worse i will pick some up Friday when i go to Barrie.
On hold fir 10 minutes so far, 10 prior to being put on hold.. i had bought my electronic bed Lordy must be 6 years ago, you could get it interest free if you paid within the year..i did, not sure how it happened but i ended up with a 23 cent credit, every month since i get an envelope, 3 pages long telling me of this big credit..a, sure the stamp is worth 40+ cents..crazy way to do business..the guy actually asked me what i wanted to do with the credit after having waited 10 minutes to talk to him, told him i really didn’t care just stop sending me the envelope so he asks me to hold..almost 10 minutes on hold listening to Xmas music he just came back on and said everything should be ok…grrrr
That is about it for my day so far, got a book from Lee Valley tools, they must know I’m bored..going to call Gail at the stained glass studio and buy supplies to finish a window hanging, can always be a 2022 Christmas gift,
When Sharon was here she asked me how come i have an entire corner with Christmas bags…lots I didn’t meet up with, she said she would help me out and take some home..lol
Marie brought me baked beans last night, had a few tablespoons but was full so I’m making mashed potatoes and will enjoy a good feeding around 3 which will serve as dinner and supper..
So what are you all doing?
Karen and Dianne how are you both doing??
Adam's school canceled so he took Andrea.
Throw rugs are MAJOR source of trip hazards. And if anybody is unstable on their feet, they REALLY should be removed or secured. They make a double adhesive tape for rugs that sticks really well. Because of Ben's wheelchair, I put a long commercial rug down at our entry and literally duct taped the edges to the floor. I could not risk a fall. With a wheelchair you track in EVERYTHING, it's not like your shoes where you can just wipe them off or take them off.
I did the double side tape Pat on the old one but think it was too far gone, i did it this morning under corners so hope it works abundantly yes, was an accident waiting to happen.
Marie just left, brought me a bag of potatoes, the bought a 50 lb bag and some fruit, always bringing something
Been on couch since Sharon left, I’ve wedged myself in pillows, should get yo but next outing i think will be to bed
What a terrible waste of time
Want to be productive, maybe i should force myself 😢
You all must get tir3d I’d me complaining..tomorrow think i will tell you all how spectacular i am, promise!
We never get tired of you or anyone else complaining or ranting. That's what friends are for. I know it makes me feel better to have someone to talk to.
When do you se your Dr?
I go for MRI Friday night
The severe pain I’m in was from bailing sump pump area and instead of throwing 1/2 pails of water outside i just had to fill the pails, was worried it would get ahead of me
Going to treat myself to a cup of tea and one of the two remaining pieces of cheesecake then bedtime
Very sad day today. A good friend in the other house passed away this morning. It was sudden and caught us all off guard as he was supposed to be moving to rehab today.
Sorry to hear Karen, online friend’s are family! And they are just break our hearts! Hugs
Sometimes is scary when I think of all my online & in person people I have lost over the last few years. They leave a hole in my heart.
Good afternoon all, it’s a cold day, mix between rain and snow so not really that cold as it’s melting as it lands, different weather for sure. I was out burning the fire pit this morning then realized my burning permit goes from January 1st to December 31st, need a new perrmit so put it out..will go get one in the i am legal. lol
Trying to clean out my freezer of leftovers, guess who is having turkey dinner and the trimmings.
Big outing tomorrow, updating my will and paperwork should one of the boys need to euthanize me 😜 aren’t I being bad.
Drats, Sharon’s daughter still doesn’t have her Covid test results back and she is still quite sick…. Big sigh
I wanted to accomplish a little bit today but with getting all the paperwork i need out for tomorrow i did nothing except visit with Marie, she is lonely now she is not out walking most of the day nor shovelling so she wants to chat.
I miss all of the thread friends who no longer come on, sad indeed.. i really though it was sad when just before Christmas i came across about 15+ envelopes and cards I had inked with Georgian Bay scenes, i remembered maybe 3 of the names..next time i am downstairs and see if any of you can remember..
There was so little colour in the house that this morning i broke down and decorated. Bit for Valentine Day
Sorry to hear that Karen. Sending our condolences and prayers.
Beautiful decorations Betty.
I agree. So sad we lose a loved one.
Typed a post, oops was for messenger, had to delete

We are in a warm up. Going to be close to 60.I have Betty on same page as all of my grandchildren, as to weather, and Betty was -13.
I am getting some long over due projects done. Nothing like you guys. Just cleaning out the closet in my Mother's bedroom. That is what we call my extra bedroom downstairs. Closet has been a catch all for many different items that either need to be donated or pitched.. Should be interesting what I find.
Betty your valentine decorations are special.
News say Covid is high but I know of no one that has it. Thank goodness.
Karen, so sorry about your friend. I have many friends on here I have never met in person. Doesn't change how I feel abut their friendship.
I have been searching the internet for a new male Miniature Schnauzer but I think I am too leery about who is real and who is a scam.
Sharon, I understand your leeriness!! There is a sewing cabinet being advertised on Facebook for just $69 with free shipping. I tried to look it up on BBB and could not find it. When it sounds too good to be true.... it probably is!! A few months back there was an advertisement for outbuildings with free shipping for $99. Although it SAID it was Home Depo, I didn't think they could / or would sell those buildings for $99!!
It's so very hard to trust any ads on the internet any more. Emails too are sketchy. Many of them claim to come from companies you trust but they are just fishing for your personal info.
I keep most of my shopping local except for a few trusted companies and I contact them I do not use any FB or email links.
Morning all, had quite a downfall of snow, Jules who does main drive was here shortly after 3am? Normally I’d be out shovelling behind the house bit i will see how it works if Joe comes with his equipment, if i don’t leave as is and give him the chance to come i will not know if this system works..no more plowing front entry not to the shed seeing there is no need.
I am suppose to go to town at 1 but there is a weather advisory on so we will see.
Tomorrow it’s Barrie MRI , have to be there by 6:15pm weather is suppose to be nice but could be cancel..there was a column in local newspaper, so many hospital nurses, doctors, maintenance are off in RVH that it may be cancelled,
Ziggy smelling roses this morning, maybe we should all do same…
Doing the happy dance, Joe just came with his equipment and guess who doesn’t have to lift a shovel..what a difference that makes…
I am happy for you Betty!!! Anything that reduces your personal manual labor is bound to reduce your pain and make you safer.
Would it help if you called the hospital today and asked about the status of your appointment for tomorrow. Driving to Barrie to be there at 6.15 and finding out it been canceled due to staffing problems would truly be aggravating. I hope your MRI is not canceled and you can get there safely.
I don't know yet if the kid's school is canceled for the day or 2-hour delay. I hope Adam remembers that I am NOT taking Sam to her appointment this morning. He has the day off work and the appt is MILES away, the roads are treacherous.
Well no one has been hre for 9 hours. What's up.
It was 60 here today and my garden helper was here and we cleaned up a bunch and filled two very large dumpsters full of cuttings. No more room in the compost pile.
Betty I hope you got to and had your MRI.
Pat, Todd, my son, is in Spokane and they are just about snowed in. Schools are cancelled but not work.
Covid is every where here. Some are sick, and some are fine, but just tested positive. Crazy world.
Sad but good. I found this in a flower pot next to a violet. She is perfect but deceased.
Yes, we have had LOTS more snow again today. School was canceled for the kids, but not the college. The weather can be VERY different between Spokane and Tri-Cities.
Another day where I got next to nothing done. THIS has got to stop. Or should I say it needs to START and get off the stop!!
Status on MRI Betty???
Morning, a feel like -17F but sun is shinning..we might have gotten 2” of snow last night.. i see deer tracks all over so they must be on the hunt for food..should put out decaying fruit/veggies but worrisome as if they know there is food in the winter likely they will be here for the gardens so best not.
Sharon, poor little plant, bet she struggled to stay with you..hope you don’t lose more..
Weather is sooo crazy..yesterday was watching some USA news and was in awe at all the devastation .. some areas having what we normally get.
I got notification, because i buy snowmobile trail passes saying so far they are not putting no use on trails because of Covid..kind of silly because snowmobiles can’t use trails because of our weather.
Just got off telephone with RVH, glad i sat for 15 minutes waiting for call to be answered, my appt is not 7 and i have to be there 6:15 my arrival time is 7pm and appt is 7:45..Sharon hasn’t felt well for a few days, she did go for her booster yesterday, i told her best i go on my own and not have her come with me..she said ok, not arguing about it so she must be relieved..just means i cannot take meds doctor gave me because I don’t know if it would affect my driving.
Pat, been watching ever so carefully to baby myself, no shovelling is helping and when i sew i sew little pieces so it’s no pressure on my neck and it is so helping..I’ve been up til at least 6pm which is great for me.. i noticed now I’m taking less Tylenol 3 for pain i am more energetic by far.
Almost wondered if i should over exert myself today so it’s hurting, if mri would get a better view???
It's 7:30 here and the water is running off the roof, the wind is howling so it must be a warm wind. Much of the snow has melted, there are pools of water on my gravel.
I am glad to hear they did not change or cancel MRI. Sounds like if you abstain from shoveling THAT will help!!!
Today I will force myself to work on projects. NO READING until certain things are done. It's very easy for me to just sit & read, nap when I don't want to do anything. I just need to pull on the Big Girl panties and do it. There really isn't any other option that makes sense or that will make me happy. Enough avoidance already, I need to show a little discipline. LOL... it occurs to me that Betty and I have the opposite problem. She won't STOP doing what is not good for her & I am having trouble STARTING what I know I should!
You have me laughing Pat, 2 opposites and yet the same..
Yesterday and today were great days, my thing is getting up at crack of dawn and go pet a coffee and right into the craft room
1. Having a list of daily “to do”. Today at drew pull drawer at bottom of stove ✅
2. 6 pillows..coming along embroidered 2 pillows with Pauze monogram for Linda ✅
1 more for Linda hoping to finish and bring to Barrie for her..plain pillow that i put a
Piece to insert her hands,,that seems to help her pain d7r8ng the night…
Also have 2 snowman pillows done..doubtful i will get the 3rd done but I’ve made a
Chunk out of today’s list..🥰
3. NO breaks until i know i am calling it a day
Will be a long day, not sure what time i will leave, might drop pillows off to l8nda then drop in t Fabricland the RVH. Figure i will be home by 9:00
I wondered what that was!
I am sitting in imaging all on my lonesome which is good considering Covid numbers but i just can’t breath with this mask. Grrr worse to come i am sure.
Would you know, left home and 15 minutes down the road is a blizzard..guess i will take back roads home which means an hour drive
Sure wish Sharon could have come with me
Weather was great, roads clear
Well the minute she put head phones on i started to hyper ventilate, she had to give me earplugs and set wedges to keep head from moving..a couple of times i was going to press on the button but made it through
Holy way, $13 for parking
Beautiful pillows Betty.
Glad to hear you are back home. Let us know when you get results.
It's been about 30 at night here for a few days, and gets up to mid 60's. Supposed to warm up by about 10 degrees.
Guess I can't complain too bad.
-1F with a feel like -11F
Hate worrying about blizzards
As it happened Greg was still at work in Barrie, worse case scenario he would have taken me home and brought me back tomorrow..luckily didn’t need to
That is quite cold for you right?
