Well, you can always go to Sharon’s place and pick a few weeds if you get the urge to have such a garden lol
Same is on my weekend agenda if I can get off couch.. I’d like to look at panel, look what I have for borders, batting backing and making kits, that way when I go to start something I’ll be ready having all I need
Tummy acting up, thinking of getting off couch, into bed with heating bad in tu,,y, hot bath didn’t help
Best/Worse/What did I learn today??come chat a spell, newcomers always welcome...
Actually.... I did do a little weeding while I was there. It is the DAILY watering of her bazillion of pots that would kill me!!! I do NOT do well with anything that takes that exacting, unforgiving, constant attention. In this heat, one missed or TOO late day and it can all be toast.
I understand that problem with pots Pat. I went out to pick up dog droppings this morning around 11 and it felt like the sun was trying to burn a hole in the top of my head. I need to backwash the Koi pond and water but that will not be done until later this evening. Still going to be 108 at 8pm. At least without the sun blaring, it doesn't feel as hot. Pat, good job on selling the whole kit and caboodle.
Betty, I am so sorry about your friend's son. Sounds like your drive was somewhat pleasant but, of course, I love driving or riding in the rain. I am working on my list of things to do. I do not think I accomplished anything today. Just after I ate breakfast/lunch at 3pm our time, my daughter stopped by with my weekly Costco order. Each week it gets smaller. I did get my hotel reservations for the trip to Gresham, Oregon and tonight I will get onto my flight. I have credit from last year's attempt, so we will see how challenging that will be.
I was sitting in the great room but then my laptop needed charging so I am now in my bedroom.
Karen, I am so pleased you are home and safe. Looking forward to hearing about your trip.
Gresham, my #2 son Kevin is living in Portland, barely past Gresham city boundary. They still have not set a wedding date. They at least have decided a huge expensive wedding is not as necessary as originally thought... guess we will see.
Saw most of the greats and got to meet Roland in person. Definitely a family resemblance with those three. The girls are now old enough that they remember us from last visit last Christmas.
I keep wondering will we ever be able to have a big family gathering again. My daughter is now so fragile, I couldn't even see her. Hoping to hear soon if all that terrible treatment she went through was effective.
This morning, while at my SIL Sharon's(watering, she is OOT) I snapped some pics to share. She made the arbor (from 2 doors), the flag bench, potting bench & big planter's box on the front of the house, the waterfall (currently dry due to need for repair and maintenance) also her pond made of stock tank (check out the size of some of those fish!)
Sharon's yard is pretty small but she has packed flower beds along all the sides, completely taken up one side of the house and most of another. There are as many square feet of patio, flower beds, garden shed as there is grass.
It is gorgeous but WAY TOO MUCH WORK for me. I cannot be trusted to water DAILY indefinitely when there are that many pots everywhere! The pots are hanging on the house, garden shed, on potting bench, over pond, IN bird bath & hanging from everywhere plus on patio & in flower beds. I am always glad when she gets home from a trip!!
We do have fun building stuff together.
What a beautiful yard, Pat! But, I can see lots of work!
Those greats are just so cute, Karen. Prayers for good news for your daughter.
Pat, that is my kind of garden, so love the art in it..yes mega work but sooo worth it..sure wish it were mine.
Just had a beautiful day outside, made me feel like the last 2 years is behind us..roots, restaurant next door had a family day outside on the patio. Lots for kids to Do..I had the trees so I offered shade to those who wanted it.
I sooo enjoyed it..
I am checking in while you are all still awake.
Karen, your grand babies are precious. So pleased you had a great visit. I am so sorry you were not able to see your daughter.
I have two friends that just came down with Covid. Neither one have been vaccinated. They are ill but not deathly. One is about 50 and the other mid 40a. On female and one male. The male has already had Covid and has it again.
Pat, that is a beautiful garden your sister has and I can see how much hard work she has put into it. When I leave in August, my garden helper is staying at my house. He will take care of everything outside and inside.
I was going to combine my trip to Portland to also hit Spokane and go into Canada. But since I cannot go into Canada, I will hit Spokane later.
Betty, you are so kind to let total strangers sit in your shade. I would do the same thing.
I am getting ready to make my cauliflower rice/chicken casserole. I do not have broccoli so I will substitute asparagus. Second time making it.
We were 116 yesterday, breaking a record set in 1943 of 113. This was probably not a pleasant place to be in 1943 with those temperatures.
Pat, Gresham and Portland close to Gresham area, is a nice place to live. Big wedding are nice but they cost so much money. The young marrieds can use the money for something else.
We have a friend who had the shots and still has Covid.
I just don't "get" the huge expense & stress of the over-the-top events. My mantra was "as long as Ben shows up on time, & the Bishop doing the ceremony, everything else is optional!"
Sharon, your casserole sounds so good but the idea of turning on an oven is NOT appealing!
Karen, sending prayers for your daughter. So stressful for family, the worry and uncertainty.
Yes, you can get Covid with vaccine, just means you likely will not be hospitalized and on ventilator.
Sharon, do hope your friends are ok, they are younger and hopefully they can fight off the worse of it. Sharon, Marie and Ted got their 2nd shot this afternoon, hopefully no side effects..
Lordy, 113F, everyone must be staying in their homes or in the malls.
Weather sure is changing each year, soon our winters will be like Florida weather
Some small home weddings are really very nice, as long as those who are special are there to celebrate.
Sharon, they are talking about opening borders once phase 3 is safely underway after opening next Friday.. usually 21 days .. if it opens you will need the 2 vacinnes sand likely no quarantine.
I ordered that embroidery design to put vacinne info in, perhaps I will see how much work it entails..want to make myself a new wallet so maybe I can sit to cut out the pieces while I play with design
finished Linda’s sign, spoke to Ann, was her birthday yesterday, she will come for a visit tomorrow, glad I made extra grocery bags!
Well, it’s nearing 7pm,..imagine already looking for my bed
Sorry to hear about your friends son Betty. So sad.
Pat, the gardens are beautiful, but I agree. A lot of work.
Karen, glad you are home safe and sound. Hope you got some rest.
lindak, what are doing to stay of out trouble?(lol, assuming you ARE!!)
Morning all, overcast day today so likely an inside day...
Was out doing groceries morning, stopped at Home Depot and got wood the door under back deck now sipping coffee, wa tempted to cut into that strawberry cream cake but will not do..Ann says she will drop in this afternoon so I’ll have some with her.
While shopping met Dianne, omg I hadn’t heard,Moshe had a fall off her horse can broke hand, across fingers/ wrist out of cost but now have a had moulded plastic unit, be some time before she is back on track..she decided it was time to sell the young horse she bought, can still ride her older horse..she says she is 77 and time to acknowledge that another fall such as she has had in recent years would do her in.
Then I’m standing at the sour cream and chip dip area and a woman started to say how there are so many brands, I said it was hard.,she said “Betty, is that you under the mask?”had a nice chat with Elaine, my cousins ex..then on to the till, friend I know from the lake works the till, heck went to pay, no wallet, had left it in the car so I had to get it and she had to suspend the sales..woukdnt you know Dianne was next in line..was rushing too much!
Inquiring same, how are you do8ng Lindakay, know it’s been difficult for you of late, hugs
Break is over, think I’ll head downstairs and make Ann a folding grocery bag, should be able to finish one from start to finish before she comes
Beautiful Lindakay, you must NOT have left your sewing machine..rail fence is a great stash buster although it looks like you had plenty of same fabric...now will you quilt them right away or put them in bin for later date.
Only 2:30pm but I’m tired..
Darlene and John came over, I mentioned I wanted to close under back deck in, there was about 10” not done so animals just love it as their sleeping area, a mouse might get in but that would be all..another piece of my world fixed..
we had a lovely visit, John lives sweets so sent 1/2 cake home with him..he said he had to use my washroom facilities before leaving and did, about 10 minutes later I went in and there was John’s phone, he just picked it up.
While they were visiting Noah dropped in, we chatted and he left, I messaged him and ask him to drop 8n before he leaves for the city as I wanted to see his new motorcycle, don’t like h8m having one but.......
cleaned inside of my car, put corn on, haven’t had lunch, Ann is coming over around 3 so best I get lunch eaten
LindaK, some nice quilts! I look forward to seeing them all quilted up and DONE! a
So sweet of your friends to close up your deck for you!
I have a preformed pond I am debated what to do with. I just don't think it's a safe option to fill with water right now. The dogs will get IN the pond, and then right back into the house WET. There are the puppies to consider. They will only be here another 2 months max but we will have a 5 YO grandson in the house.... If I just put wire and boards over it, I have created a wonderful "den" for something nasty. So, do I fill it in? And dig it back out in 2 years? I can't take it out and expect it to go back in because of a tree RIGHT there & the roots will invade the space. WHAT WOULD YOU DO??
Wow that is quite a decision, hmm
If it weren’t oversized I think I would pull it out of the ground and lean it against fence/shed/house so that once you have your house back you can inset it again...filling it and refilling I think would be a problem..
Ann just left, she was here for 1 1/2 hrs, all dolled up, hair cut, pedicure, manicure and I look like something cat dragged in lol
Filling the tub and going to soak..think today was too busy for me
Bought fixings for a nice supper but decided with this headache I’ll just have a ham/tomato sandwich
Pat we have white picket fencing about 2 feet high we bought at Lowe's. We put it around the Christmas tree first year to keep pups away. Now we just like it. Comes in a roll. Would probably do the job for you.
We were 117 today. Death Valley 130. Both temps broke a record. We had a short walk earlier this morning ad have been in the house the majority of the day. We will go for our walk around 7:30pm. The sun has to be behind the mountains. Still about 106 but no stifling without the sun shining directly on you.
Linda, your work on the quilts is amazing. I have no talent at anything to do with sewing. I took classes in painting and drawing and sucked at that also. So I stick with gardening.
Pat, I buy in ground pots for water, drill holes in them and fill with soil and make a big beautiful pot. Some i dig into the ground and some I just use on top of the soil but usually at a tilt. The tree roots will eventually fill up the pond invading through the holes. So I check the pots every spring for invasion of roots.
I made my reservations for my flights today. Had to wait on line because I needed to work with my refund from last year and system would not cooperate.
Morning all, sunshine day but low temps , with rain scheduled for next 3 days best I take a drive and get gas for lawnmower and get the yard done...would be nice to check and find I’ve just enough to cut again but sure there is not..that is called wis(ful thinking
Great ideas re Pat’s pond situation..
Sharon, those temps are unnatural even for your region, do they say there will be a break coming soon?
Well last post I said I had a headache and blurry eyes, didn’t want to say anything to Ann as I wanted for us to finished our visit
No sooner did she leave that Noah came to show me his bike, pretty spiffy, #16 of 20, gave him the grandma speech on safety, he commented I didn’t look good so took blood pressure, oops was high, lower this morning but eyes still hazy.
Will call doctor’s office at 9, likely this is the week they are closed for holidays.
Drats clouding over
Ohh update on Paulette’s son death, it was not at his house, he was visiting a friend, the friend was doing something and asked him to answer the door, he was shot several times as he opened door. That night we had torrential rain, Noah said they were having difficulties finding evidence.
Time to make a coffee/toast and decide what I’m up to
Those are some good options that I had not thought of, thanks!
Anyone else having trouble with Davesgarden not navigating the photos normally? The only way I can go from photo to photo is to start at the far right and hit previous. The other direction is not an option & something even from right does not work.
Blood pressure quite high yesterday/today
Dr’s office just called, he said that if my blood pressure is that high, blurred vision, paining arm I am prime candidate for stroke/hear attack..
Relaxing on couch, see how things go
It’s lower right now as long as I’m not doing anything so guess it’s couch time and if while I’m monitoring and it goes up then I must go to emerge..
Sharon dropped in and gave me a Christmas in July gift, a painted window she commissioned from my sister-in-law, she has been painting them... I have no clue where it will do
Beautiful window Betty.
Please don't wait to go to ER. You need attention now.
I’m there Lindakay, sure I am waiting their and my time but am here at emerge
Lots of people (16) but I’m fast moving through the system
They took blood, electro cardiogram , nurse said it looked good but blood will tell the tale
now waiting for a room that I can stay in while waiting for doctor to get results and see if I can leave or need more testing
I am glad you are being seen Betty. Do you have a space on a shed wall you could hang the window?
No but I’m going to hang it in that big frame out back, not fussy on it but might look good there
Just had chest X-ray, another set of blood test so imagine by 9:30-10:00 I’ll be home..Ziggy was out and wouldn’t come in when I left so ted next door put him 8n an hour ago
Omg omg this young doctor that just checked me out is the most pleasant doctor I’ve ever met..can you imagine, he comes in the room, asks me about what I do during the day, I said gardening, he takes out his cell phone, starts showing me his gardens, what plants he has, lives on water, has mega native species in his gardens, I take my iPad, show him my photos lol 😜
LOL... when I was a teenager my Mom sent me back with MD alone. Before long she recognizes my laugh. The MD and I had swapped horse stories. He administered a VERY mild tranquilizer to his daughter's horse, hoping to mellow it out a little since was so high strung. He said the horse dropped and all he could think about was how was he going to dispose of a horse body? when the meds wore off, the horse jumped to it's feet. There was NO middle ground.
I told him about administering a HUGE dose of enema to a horse since we had been unable to locate a vet. When the horse raised his tail, we RAN. Liquid poop shot straight out flocking the side of the garage wall.
Oh goodness lol
Still waiting on doc, was just before 9 they said results were in, now 10:30 and no update..if I’m staying I just want lights out and try to nap
Yep, trying to get sleep or rest in hospital is a rare thing!
Morning, was up and at it, had alarm set for 6:30am so I could get garbage to , looked like rain any minute but it’s trying hard to move on, hope so
Got home at1:00pm good
Made me an appointment for General Internal Medicine Rapid Assessment Clinic July 27th
I’m to call 911 if blood pressure ever gets near what it was
Pat and June come this morning to sew then I’ll rest as doc said rest over next 3-4 days
Got a great compliment, when he and nurse where in room to say I could leave he told the nurse hat my gardens reflected my personality, that I was a beautiful lady lol doesn’t know me right?
June just called, she is moving slowly this morning so likely won’t be here til ten..
She is 2/3rds done the appliqué quilt of “under the sea’ (?) difficult at best even more so as it’s almost 2 years since we’ve worked on it so today will be trying to get it organized..she has really lost a lot of memory, confuses easily, almost thing I should try to finish it..we will see..she had bought old window frames she said a few years ago and did I want them, interesting to see what they are like.
Time to head downstairs
Betty, NOPE, MD got it spot-in, beautiful inside and out!!! Personality is overflowing & rich, multi-faceted and many a variety of talents (color!)
How nice Pat, warms my heart..we dont often see ourselves as others do
where did the day go?
Pat and June were here til noon, went to get gas for lawnmower, just pulled in when John and Darlene pulled in, came to put up new lighting that Sharon bought me for my birthday, Lordy it’s so bright in that room now...talk about being ale to see, will be able to see threads on floor now lol
just as they were leaving Noah came to visit, decided he would treat grandma with a pedicure / manicure, so very thoughtful
i hadn’t seen the car he bought a few months ago, forgot the name, English land rover of sorts omg, drives itself, seat massager, Ac and heat for each seat, cameras showing 3d all around the car, John said I could buy 4 of my cars for the price of Noah’s..to me a car is a car lol.
Noah just had hair cut and styled, looks pretty spiffy!
Going on 3, think I will go tidy craft room up a bit then just relax but then I’m fighting keeping my eyes open so will go turn all machines off and unplug everything, shut down all I can as storm has started, big bangs of thunder, winds up so storm is close by
My Block of the month embroidery class is tomorrow and I am FINALLY getting started doing them! EEeekkk!!! I will be done in time, I have the 1st one complete, 2nd almost done. 2+ to go!!
I am still going thru the stuff in my bedroom and sewing room. I really want to pare this down until nothing is more than 80% full with lots of open space. Right now I have too many boxes of miscellaneous stashed under the tables or in boxes thrown on the shelves.
Getting all the yard sale stuff gone has been an enormous relief. I get tense & anxious when there are piles of stuff. All the tables, fans & saw horses have all been returned. I am already starting on my next 2 piles of stuff. Stuff to rehome, stuff to donate.
I have transferred the title of Ben's truck into my name so now I am in a position where I can sell it. I feel a little sad about it on many levels. I KNOW my son uses it but I honestly can't afford to pay insurance and all the maintenance and NOT be the one that is using it! He put 32K miles on it this year, broken a tail light & I have 2 new rock chips, not to mention the tires I have bought. I offered it to him for 1/2 of what Ben paid for it, but .it's not what he wants.
