today, 2 weeks old
Best/Worse/What did I learn today??come chat a spell, newcomers always welcome...
Sooo cute, is the little white one your favourite? See him/her under hind legs away from the others
Likely to lose power, storming like crazy
Housekeeper is here and her husband just joined her because he had a cancellation. That way she will be able to leave early.
We are currently 104 and will be 100 at 8pm. I am again in the bedroom and this time I am making appointments. I called my Stock Broker today and he was home. I have his cell number and didn't think about it being a recognized Federal holiday. He laughed and said no problem.
I got a nice scratch on my arm, after the lights were off, last night. Big boom in the greenbelt and Cecil decided to climb up my arm on the way to get behind or on top of my head. I have been gardening after the sun is behind the mountains but tonight it will still be 100. I will check it out and see how it goes. I only have some deadheading and weeding to do.
Dianne, Kia just loves his Mom. Usually older dogs train the younger ones. Vegas is packed with people and our cases are going up. It is the new strain, Delta, and effecting those that have not been vaccinated. But we had hugh crowds for the hockey playoffs and cases did not surge and there were 18,000 people crammed in there every night they played in Las Vegas.
My sister is half finished with her move in and she is really tired. I spoke with a widower that lives down the street and he said the same thing I said. He would sell and move if he didn't have to move. Packing up a house you have been in over 20 years is just mind boggling.
Betty, those big white and pink blooms would grown in your area. They are hardy hibiscus. Here they bloom in the morning and are closed before 1pm. In your area, they would stay open all day. The bloom fades after one day but the plant has many blooms per stock. They could take your freeze.
Pat, you sounded exasperated. How today is better. And I can totally understand how you are feeling, Over stimulated by too many people and animals around. You are doing much better than I would be.
Susan, hoping all is going well.
Linda, are you as hot as we are. I have your plumeria but I am not going to send until it is dormant. That way I can ship it without the leaves and packing and shipping will be easier.
If you look close there is a chocolate puppy to the left of the yellow one nursing. She just blends in with her mama. I don't really have a favorite yet. The yellow just seems to be maturing a little faster than the others. He actually growled at me when he was unhappy about something!!!
Marie (sis) came out and we got the closet rod rehung. Oh MY GOODNESS.... we did not get the shelf level from front to back, not even close LOL... BUT!!! I think it WILL stay up! I actually had to recut the metal rod shorter because of the supports we added. I do have some clothes packed away (winter stuff) but ALL my clothes are in that little closet. Yep, all 54 x 31 inches of it!
Door to the left is closet, my bookcase with necklace rack above it, exit on right. SMALL huh? LOL
This is most of the art, (what I did not pack and store). I will still fill above and below a couple of pieces but at least it's safely on the wall for now.
My brother cut the closet rod the first time but he showed me the metal pipe cutter we had in the garage and showed me how. This time, I DID IT!! I was so grateful I did not have to call and ask for help again.
We worked on cleaning the garage and getting to fill it with yard sale stuff in preparation for this coming weekend.
Those pups are so cute. Mine would bark or growl at me when their eyes first opened. I've been told that they can't see clearly at first, only shapes. I guess big moving shapes are scary.
No hurry on the plants Sharon. You have been busy. Take care of that scratch. It has been about 98 here, but our humidity has been about 48 percent. So it feels like 108. Very hard to breathe.
Pat, you have been busy too. Looks nice.

Afternoon
Got over the thunderstorm last night, never heard it so loud, loud enough it shook house at one point.sunny and humid right now 80-90% humidity, everything feels wet, by evening rain starts again, bones just aching..
Pat and June were here, nice to have them back..june ended up with Spider-Man hooded towel and Pat got one embroidered grocery bag done and the embroidery part of a 2nd.
I put garbage out at 6:30 and went downstairs and did another grocery bag for Linda, couple ought to do it..have a few friends having birthday so likely not the end of making them, have lots of scraps.
Bernie just called, oncologist moved his appointment from 27th to tomorrow morning..has to be there at noon for blood work, then oncologist then radiation doctors..worries me when they up appointments...want to know but yet not, know you all know what I’m saying!
Deb, bet they are. Starting to be very playful and take up a lot of your tie..any shows coming up?
Lindakay, best you stay in, maybe sort out fabrics and look for patterns
Pat who would have thought we gals get so excited using tools, especially ones you've not used before.
Sharon, how is the scratch? Not many business people answer phones off hours, lucky you. See Montreal won last night..
Pat you’ve done so much, love it, we’re you able to get a good nights rest?cant wait till I hear you say it’s a day of rest
I went to palace pizza and got poutine, yummy, likely enough for supper
The guys and gal always stand for 1/2 hour lunch out front, introduced myself and told them next week to please use back patio area to relax.. did same a few years ago with a construction crew
Need a nap
Betty, I am sure the crew appreciates the invite to use the patio. I would hate my lunch to be standing up! I have rest days. Days when ALL I do is read and nap. I know when they happen, I need them. But do I resent them! LOL.... I want to get things done!
I’ve learned to do same, are those hours you rest happen during the night?
put heating pad on my hip then decided it was too nice to be inside, got my loppers out, when standing on back deck you could barely see the pond, did a number on that, there was an old 2 step metal ladder, thought I’d clip a few limbs off side tree, ooops thought a leg was sinking in the ground, nope was rotten and broke off, that is ok as it was hidden in a corner with a plant on it.
Think I’ll get my kitchen2 stepladder and see if I can cut few more limbs before skitters are out
Tremendous amount of work lindakay, sure love it..who is getting this one?? Feels good to get it done I’m sure.the fabric shop has a/c that is working overtime I bet.
Now to get the limbs into fire pit, will wait till later tonight in hopes it’s cooler
Can already see a bit more sunshine coming thru on the grass..will now wait for man power to cut larger limbs down
Shaking my head, grow trees/shrubs then want to shut them down
I admit to cutting like crazy on some of mine too!
No, the "rest" is frequently during the day, wrapped in blanket in front of the A/C blowing like a blizzard! NOW that is as silly as planting bushes & then cutting them. I honestly don't think the A/c is set too low, but the blower is set on high. My recliner has few options for location so, right in the path of the blower it sits!
Got the limbs in and on side of pit, went to shut lights and machines off downstairs and ended up making another shopping bag, found some pretty kitty fabric, so cute..hoping to get a 2nd bad out of it.
I have a/c at 70, propped up in bed and have ceiling fan on..Ziggy laying right under the fan enjoying the breeze.
astilbe in bloom
Enjoy a restful evening Pat
Susan, hope all is going well..

I need to give astilbe a try again. So far I have not had good luck but I think I was using it in too sunny of a place. BUT NOW I have an area that does not get much sun!
I got home late from my nail appointment and my trip to Trader Jo's to a house full. Guard saw me drive in so her stopped by to introduce the new roving guard he was training and to help bring in my groceries. There is always something in my bags for he guards, so I do get their attention. Fred, the garden helper, was here sitting the dogs, because both dogs got into a bag of chicken bones i had placed on the floor to put into the garbage cans when I left. I put all of my chicken bones and anything with meat residue on the packaging onto the bottom shelf on the freezer door and leave them there until garbage day morning when I remove and place them into the garbage. I had just finished their breakfast an could not find Emma. There she was by the back door chowing down on frozen chicken wings, legs and thigh bones. That was a complete precooked chicken by Costco, so there were a lo of bones. Long story. So Fred stayed with the dogs in case they got sick or anything like that.
I had two gentlemen open doors for me today and a young lady took my grocery cart back. Helping the little old lady. I thanked them, It was 116 and i probably looked like I was going to melt.
It is 12:13 am and I could not go to sleep so I thought I would get your guys off a message.
We are going to be hot all week. The temperature record for today was set in 1973 at 117. Our hot weather has been around for a long time. Our low is going to be 82. Cutting down my big sumac eliminated my shade. I used to follow the shade around to garden and now that shade is gone.
Pat, I have the same problem with my AC in the bedroom. I need someone to adjust the vent because if it is on, it is blowing directly on me when i am sitting in the chair. I have orders from my children and grandchildren, no ladders.
My oldest grandson came over this afternoon because I picked him up some Rainer cherries and two different cheeses. He is 24. He is the wedding photographer. He will graduate the end of the next semester. He has been offered a good job in California, as a photographer, but he does not think he can afford to live there.
Morning all,
Chilling out enjoying cup of coffee, listening to light rain, kind,o day it will stay on so thrilled that I got energetic and got the limbs carried to fire pit area. Ziggy wants out but when I opened back door in to closed in room there on the ledge was mamma raccoon, must be looking for her babes, she was not as friendly as the babes so Ziggy will have to wait to get out.
Sharon, you did have a busy day, I’m finding the young come to give assistance a lot more than before.emma must have though the chicken was popsicles and the cold eats refreshing.
For most of our week we will have slightly lower temperatures, must be hard day after day having temps such as yours but no different then us in cold winter temps.
In my mind when I was younger I thought it was everyone’s dream of living in California..do hope your grandson finds a way of taking the position
Pat, yes, I’ve light pink, white and deep maroon astilbe the ones in the shaded areas do the best.one in the picture I will divide come spring
Susan, see the Calgary Stampede will go on this year if you can show you’ve been vaccinated, some with one vaccine will have options to certain venues and others with 2 vaccines into main events, think proof of vaccine will be the way a lot of the world will determine who can attend what...no news of border opening. Big sigh, want to go see joann’s and meet up with Debbie
Our wonderland theme park is opening today, will have to research what their rules are p, not that I’m going but interested.
A very good friend in years gone by who has now passed, her daughter Paulette who hung around with my boys lost her son Monday from gun shooting, police investigating if its murder or suicide. Tragic
Time to make another coffee and head downstairs.thinking maybe while playing with other little projects I might get back to doing a few turns on the wedding quilt...
What do you all have planned for today
Good morning.
Sharon, sure hope the chicken bones don't make your dogs sick.
I have several quilts waiting to be quilted, and a customer ordered a twin size Spiderman quilt yesterday. Going to be bust for awhile. The tshirt quilt is for our local district attorney.
Betty, we are praying your borders open soon.
Like Sharon said, the Delta variant is spreading in the US. It is in the larger cities in Texas. San Antonio, Dallas, Houston... I don't think it is in our small town yet.
This message was edited Jul 7, 2021 8:59 AM
Good morning. We have had T&L plus heavy rain and moderate rain for over 48 hours. According to the WL we have a 90% chance of rain today.
LK I love the quilt. That was a lot of work.
Sharon how did the dogs react to eating the chicken bones ? You must have felt relieved that Fred stayed to monitor the dogs.
Pat 'be still my heart' the puppies are beautiful. I could never breed my dogs as I could never give thee puppies up. Have you smelled their puppy breath?
Where's Susan ? I hope things are going well for her.
Went up the lane yesterday to the village drug store to get my second vax - it was Moderna. This morning I am feeling an ache where the shot went in right up to and into my shoulder blade. Plus I have a slight headache. Since I can't be outside today I'll baby my arm. I felt nothing with the first vax.
Hope Karen had safe travels.
Betty I saw on TV and read in the Toronto Star that our Premier Ford wants to reopen cautiously. I noticed at Foodland yesterday they have begun keeping count of how many people come in the door. I am hoping for my NY neighbours that they can get up here. They put in a fancy new dock which they haven't been able to use.
Stay safe and well.
Dianne, I don't think I could have dogs (or any other animal!) and have them bred. I just, plain worry too much. I am so attached to my animals, that the thought of losing my mama through complications of birth, scares me to death! Funny, I really never worried about MYSELF, I was in hospital etc and it was my choice. Yes, giving UP the babies would be nearly impossible!!!
I took a video of the puppies nursing, wish I could post it here. It was too funny!!! Their little tails just a wagging & climbing over each other and making puppy noises. When my sister came, she said "Nova, show me your puppies" and Nova instantly walked down the hall to the bedroom and whelping box. Nova is so sweet.
The patio doggy door has been installed. Nova & Jazzy both have mastered it and walk freely in & out. Thaddeus is STARTING to use it, big chicken! I thought we would never get him through it and is a long way from comfortable with it..
Most of today will be devoted to pricing yard sale stuff, hopefully getting some pictures taken & higher priced items listed in ads now. Marie brought over a TINY fraction of her stuff yesterday and I felt totally overwhelmed.
I have committed to THIS week of transportation, after that, I don't know what my DIL Andrea will choose to do about it. She is much too comfortable packing slowly, with no sense of urgency. (Adam drove up to help with packing, it was evident they had been painting rocks and other leisurely activities!) Andrea is the one that told her daughter that she would provide transportation to Benton city for her "job". I don't see the economics of me driving 2 hours (30 minutes there and back twice a day) to get granddaughter 6 hours of babysitting work. My transportation was to help free up time for them to get the MOVE done.
Dianne, they have been doing that in our area for 6 months, at Walmart you go in through the exit door, coming out by enter door, there is an attendant at both ends, one counts how many come in and the other how many go out so they keep the mandated shopper #
Rain all day here as well, into cooking
Yes, would like update from susan, worry about her..
Pat I so would love to put a kitty door in but just yesterday mamma raccoon was on the railing, I would end up with so many critters inside to I’ll just have to go to door to let Ziggy in/out 30 times a day.
Wow, that sure is misuse of time for you to be driving that far, gas is expensive, have to make a list and go once vs every day.
Sharon was going to purchase three dog cages in Oriilia and asked would I join her but I passed, tummy churning waiting to hear of Bernie’s results, what stage he is in, can he be helped or simply be told he is terminal..trying to fill in my time, made a chocolate pie, did last of 4 folded wallet/garbage bags..have meat out, made salad, my way of coping with stress.
YES, it is a misuse of MY time and money. However, that will end this week. I am trying hard to have a positive relationship with DIL. I remind myself that no one can take advantage of me without my consent! The old "You teach people how to treat you" has never been truer!
Our monitoring of in & out of stores has pretty much ended. We are increasingly open. Even announced that church is totally open here again. I am grateful for that! Betty, I am sorry your tummy is revolting. I understand your way of coping! I wish I got productive instead of eating!!!
Hopefully Susan will check in soon. I hope things are going well.
Yes Pat, my coping mechanism, never stay still, keep busy every second..
Yes, it’s us that gives the cue for how people treat us and at times take advantage of us..don’t think many do to me, not that I can remember..
Wish you all lives closer, I’ve enough food to feed you all lol
Well I can relax, just wanted to be sick when I saw Bernie’s number come up, the joy in his voice said it all...the oncologist said that he does have something in his blood, will provide meds, but it mimics cancer as they were pretty sure he had..he was going today to see what stage..omg that was good news, he has to see him every year as it could develop into something but praise the Lord..I said are you fibbing me?? Of course he couldn’t fake the happiness in his voice.
Oh well, I cooked and baked enough for a few days 😊
This week I’ll make a telephone charger bag and linda’s Birthday gIft is ready..
Sue, darlene’s Sister’s Birthday is the 18th of July as well (Roger’s as well as our Debbie) so I’m 1/2 way making her a bag..found some pretty fabrics in my stash, enough that if I incorporate fabric in design they turn out lovely..found some doggy fabric to make one and made one with pastel kitties..too adorable..how come I’ve kept the ugly ones and giving the cutest ones away
Called greg, he is golfing tonight,Mel is packing the trailer as they are off for a week camping up north so no eats for them but Sharon took me up on it, will be here shortly.
We are hot. I watered front and part of the back near the Koi pond, and then headed inside. I finally got a hold of my doctor to get my 6 month check-up for refills and left a message for the service department for an electrician. I am using the company that was the electrician when the house was built. My socket has burned out in my Viking Range Hood. My handyman would not touch it.
Dianne, I am sorry you are having some pain with your second vaccine. I had Maderna and had nothing either time. You guys are getting rain and we are as dry as a bone.
Betty, weird story for you. Hockey player that lives in our neighborhood went home to Canada with his family for the Summer. They took their American Nanny with them.
Go figure.
Pat, I love it. Love when we have gotten old enough to not let people take advantage of us. I have a doggie door but I had to put in the stopper when the coyotes kept walking the greenbelt at night. My sister moved back into her condo and her dog and cat are both having a problem. Jody, the poodle, has never lived with stairs. He will go up but will not come down. Last night I told her, each time he would not come down, to go ring the door bell. I am curious to see what happened with that. She calls me every night. Her son is still living in the condo until he can find a place to buy. He keeps getting out bid. And he has a cat. My sister's cat finally came downstairs late yesterday.
Does not appear to be any problems with Emma after the chicken bones being eaten. Maybe being cooked and then frozen, maybe they were softer than normal chicken bones. I do hope so.
Linda, the radar shows you guys may be getting rain.
Betty, California is not like it used to be. Changed a lot over the last twenty years. Freeways used to be so beautifully maintained. With the drought and cuts in maintenance budgets, it just like any other freeway. Vern and I just loved San Francisco and that area. My daughter and her girl friends went last year and they said it was shocking what was happening in San Francisco.
Betty, wonderful news about Bernie. So pleased for both of you.
Morning, cool, wet here this morning with a weather alert, Mother Nature sure must have had it with us all...
Sharon, Stanley cup over for another year..Montreal lost..perhaps Las Vegas will win it next year.thank you about Bernie, a relief for us all. Liz and Kenny sure did show us San Francisco..driving down the coast I was overwhelmed by all the poor people living on streets and beaches, what in m y mind was the state of riches and possibility sure didn’t look like it was so.
Sounds same here Sharon, outbidding, selling far beyond the asking price.
Ran my bath to warm up, so damp..I will leave here at 1:30 and do to barrie, bed supplies then be in Elmvale for 4
Battime
We have been getting some rain. Scattered showers all around us for weeks. Most of the rain will go around us, and it makes it so humid.
Betty, so glad to hear good news about Bernie. I know you are so relieved.
Good news regarding Bernie!!! YOUR family was due for good news!
Hot here, no sign of relief in sight. At least we didn't have crazy 4th of July fires. I am counting my blessings about that.
I’ll just go to Elmvale for my eyes and come straight home I’ll go to Barrie early Saturday morning
Hi all - sorry for being MIA. Things are really good here with Bob & I.
I went fishing with my friend Dianne yesterday. Tried one pond,no luck. Tried another pond, no luck. It was a lovely day out though! Cooled down enough that we thought we could catch something. No one was having luck. I heard that in some non-aerated ponds that fish were dying from the heat. They came up for air and couldn't take the extreme temps.
Been busy with a bunch of stuff. Going to a 65th wedding anniversary party on Saturday, and picked up mugs & t-shirts for the happy couple to give to them. Also ordered congrats certificates from the Queen & Prime Minister. The Gov'n General didn't, because they don't have a new one assigned. I was pleased to GET the certs so early - weren't expected until July 15th & Aug 5th! Bob's gone to get document frames for them.
I'm knitting Prayer Shawls for the church I used to attend. They wanted to pay me for the wool (heck NO!!), and also asked if I were still continuing because I'm no longer attending that church (because of the "counselling" I got from the interim minister - they don't know about this). I told them - yup, will continue to do the Prayer Shawl Ministry! No reason to stop! I've done one & printed some labels to attach to others. Helps me lessen my "stash" lol

I am happy to hear things are moving along well for you Susan.
Have a safe drive Betty.
Nice hearing that things are good Susan and yes, I imagine the fish are as low as they can be to try and get a bit of cold water.i only have baby yarn for the blanket I’m making for great grandson, Pat gave me a worry worm with a note..was going to make a few to put in birthday gifts but guess what, I have no scraps, used all wool I had on those neck warmers.
Just got back from elmvale, nice ride no rain..they were especially nice..my eyesight isn’t much different than it was a few years ago but something in the pressure was off, will send me to a specialist, says likely will give me a quick later to open channel as a precaution. Did put order my new glasses there, I’ll make appointment with Michelle in Penetanguishene who is a friend of my kids..always gives me a deal lol. Likely have to wait for appointment though but that is ok.
Had a big lunch so think I will make myself a jam sandwich, get all the lights turned off in the craft room and make sure I shut the machines off..already had my bath and
Off to bed..for some reason I’m really tired..
Dogs and I are back in my bedroom again. You would think I was Pat. But my bedroom is large and Emma can sleep on the bed and Cecil is laying right beside me. Too hot to go outside, except for a quick dog walk. I am making my strawberry cream cheesecake. Second time. This time I am letting the cream cheese get warm. Much easier to whip, I think.
I have made an appointment with a new alarm company for my house alarm. They will be here next Tuesday and will be here 3 hours. They do not know the are meeting with a female that can sell them their own shoes. Should be fun.
Betty, I get cold when I am very tired. Maybe you need to just sit back and relax for a day. How was your dinner with Sharon. Yes, Tampa Bay beat Montreal. I didn't even keep track after Vegas lost. Now onto the Las Vegas Raiders. I am not interested but will support a local team. I do not need to worry about going to a game because the place is totally sold out for the season. Now they are negotiating with Oakland's Major League Baseball team. Poor Vern, he would be beside himself with all of this local major sports.
Susan, sounds like you two are doing fine. Just stay in your lane.
Linda, at least your area is getting some rain. We are getting nothing. Southwest needs to determine how to get the water from the Columbia River into the Colorado River. Now it just runs out into the ocean. And that is a lot of water. By the time the Colorado River gets to Mexico, it is a trickle.
Good news, Granddaughter Hannah loves her new job. Her husband just started his last year of Residency. She calls me often regarding house plants. She is a house plant killer but is getting better. We is a wonderful baker and cook. Learned from her mother.
Here is hoping everyone had a great Thursday and onward to Friday.
Hugs
NO YARD SALE!! I called someone I knew that buys estates etc and asked them to make an offer. It was lower than Marie wanted to accept but I was FINE with it. NO more work other than returning all the tables that were borrowed.
Home again. Long trip, so much construction. Cinci as usual was awful going up and we knew down would be worse so we avoided it and took by-pass.
Now all thye unpacking and catching up with mail & such.
Better you rest this morning..mail and such can wait until tomorrow
I am glad you are home safe Karen, I am sure it was wonderful seeing family again.
Hope you are sleeping in Karen..am sure you kept very busy on your trip north..
1:00pm and I feel it should be night time, such a very long day even though I’ve kept busy.
Went to Barrie with Sharon, rained all the way, picked up enough supplies I hope to finish out the month..guess it al depends I guess how quickly I work.. at the cost of fabric and supplies here I hope the border opens quickly. Did buy the softest fabric for burp cloths, like to make ab1/2 dozen if I’ve enough.
Sad to say my friends son 24 was murdered, not randomly selected...so sad
One of those days I don’t know what to do with myself..do NOT like days like this big sigh
That is sad Betty. I am sorry for his family's loss.
I am "on deck" again for watering at SIL Sharon's house. I was later than normal this morning and the sweet potato vine was already drooping! I really need to snap a few pictures of her place to share here. It is beautiful, although WAY more work than what I would EVER consider for myself.
I hope to get some picking up and putting up done in my sewing room today. There are a lot of miscellaneous things that got left in here when I was so busy with trying to fix the closet, hang art & get ready for the yard sale. . Maybe now I can focus on getting my area thoroughly cleaned and organized. I still have 4 blocks to machine embroider before next Wednesday.
