best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come sit awhile and visit..newcomers always welcome

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Sorry to hear you have water in your basement Betty.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty I probably know more than most what you are going through with your basement. We have spent a small fortune on trying to keep our dry. Hopefully you don't have too much loss. Hugs

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

WHAT??E#@!!! I don't see post that said Betty had water in the basement again!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon
2” flood, took 10 hrs for me to clean it up on my own, then up all night checking to make sure all was running. Greg was in the city but came this morning, redesigned what was, a plumber will meet him here shortly, new equipment etc.

Have been in bed since he came, just got dressed incase he needs me for something, don’t want to embarrass him.

Haven’t felt like eating so haven’t eaten since Wednesday supper time, I’m a bit off balance and noise in my head non stop..so tired of all of this.

Overwhelms me sometimes then you get those that say move into apartment big sigh

Would have been my 55th wedding anniversary today

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When do you see the Dr

Verona, ON

Oh Betty these floods are just too much. You didn't always have flooding issues did you ? I had to do those flood watches when I lived in the farm house. The basement was dirt and they just dug around a huge rock so the water streamed in there. It can sure tire you out especially when you are hurting already.

It was in the high 40's today. I only needed a hoodie on when Chaos and I walked.

Betty do you get a buzzing in your ears ? he more tired I get the louder the buzz. It's tinnitus and not much can be done for it. An ear specialist gave me a Rx for amitriptyline to take at bedtime. Doesn't really help.

Stay safe and well.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Can not be an easy thing, the day of your anniversary.

I am sorry that the whole flooding is happening again. When I had a flood years ago, my insurance credited the hours I spent working on the mess against my deductible.

I am sure that living in an apartment has it's appeal for some people, I don't see it as a great option for you Betty. You love your landscaping and decorating so much!!! I suppose you could get a storage unit and bring your decorations in by season/ holiday. A ground floor apartment with a decent patio to include a bench & water feature would help. It is NEVER an easy decision and you are likely a few years away from having to make that decision!

Perhaps those that have thrown out the option of an apartment can give you their reasons and see if some of those concerns can be satisfied RIGHT where you are?

It is looking more and more like son & family will move in with me. No date other than if it happens it will be before 3/1, since they will need to be out of their current rental by then. That is when the contract ends. They have not talked to the kids about it yet. This would be a good opportunity for them to try to minimalize, son & fam have a tendency to be packrats.

I am looking at ways to make this better/easier for all of us. I think it likely I should sell one King size bed so they can move in bunk beds. In the other bedroom, I will move my computer desk and filing cabinet out and shoe-horn in a loft bed over the existing twin. I have overhead fans in EVERY room and we need to be mindful of those as a hazard for the youngest.

Adam helped me all of yesterday, we got an old oil burning heater/stove out of the metal shed and I sold it this morning to a passerby. I was willing to give it away. Guy stopped while my brother was with me. Buyer asked how much do you want for it and before I could say anything, Mark said how much you offering?? and thus it sold! Space created and money in my pocket!

When it gets closer to time for move in (if this does in fact happen), I may be asking for some of your ideas. I am torn between just leaving most of my stuff in the main part of the house/ kitchen. And then I consider the wear & tear and abuse of kids and dogs, would I resent having to buy replacements? Yet I dont' want to store my stuff. I think likely I will leave it all in place and plan on placing it. Heaven knows most rooms will need repainting if I have kids here long! My hall needs it now. I think I just need to get in the mind set that I own nothing that can't be replaced!! Move my antique buffet into my sewing room, the rest consider it disposable/replaceable. My bedroom and sewing room will be MY sanctuary, no kids allowed except by explicit invitation. Does that sound reasonable to YOU all?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, it’s not really in ears, you know the sound when they have an amber alert it like that constant in my head but lower..tiring me out.

Pat, I think you are on the right track, boundaries for all full knowing that what you have likely will have to be replaced..is this temporary, is there talk as to how long you will have them live with you? That would also be a topic before they move in if it were I.

Got a call from Steve, Darlene’s BIL here in midland, Darlene and John sent me an early Xmas envelope, didn’t even hear him come in..Cathy who rents next door apartment came to back door, didn’t stay long but brought a few slices of Christmas cake Ted her hubby made and some cookies she made. Kindness abound.as for the envelope I will drop it off next time I’m in midland, am sure because I am distressed re new system she would contribute but I don’t need it..

I had just dozed off and Cathy my other friend called, she asked if I could bring her to barrie thursday afternoon for more tests (she doesn’t drive) re her cancer..she tends to her mom who has Alzheimer’s, her sister will look after her mom while I take her to barrie

So although I spent day in bed it was busy.

Drats, more rain for next few days, if Greg couldn’t get new system as it has to be ordered guess I’ll be up all night again

Betty you cannot be losing this much sleep. Perhaps Greg can get another battery back-up to tide you over. Here the company put in a second sump hole with large pump and battery back up on both. So far we have been OK. Spring will tell the tale. We have had some heavy rain with nary a leak.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I remember all too well the stress of flooding problems. I so wish that was resolved for all of us!

Yes, we will be having the timeline conversation. A lot depends on whether they both enroll in school. Assuming it is just 2 years for Andrea to finish up her degree and Adam to get certified with welding, other field if he changes his mind. Tentatively I am thinking 2 years. If it goes "OK", I think that is reasonable. We'll see.

It is also possible the 2 oldest girls will choose to live with their father, he lives local and each of them have lived with him a year or more at various times(although NOT both at the same time). . Thankfully there is a good working relationship between Andrea & THAT ex. We'll see... Not going to stress. I will just keep cleaning and decluttering, make more room in the house.

Verona, ON

Betty were you up all night ? It's raining here and we were supposed to have a sunny day. Sure hope you weren't up all night tending to a flood.

Chaos is a slug of a dog...... he climbed on the bed about 7pm and is still there this morning. We haven't ventured out yet but I'll soon get some rain gear on and head out.

Betty did you get your home visit from your doctor ?

Stay safe and well everyone.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone.
We finally are getting cooler weather. 40 degrees this morning. Tomorrow night is supposed to be 31. Guess it's time to bring in the house plants.
Betty, I hope you are feeling better, and have had no more water problems.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening, just climbed into bed, worked outside good part off the day.

Went shopping with Sharon yesterday then to montana’s for steak dinner, was it good..needed that outing.

Water issue under control at this time, Greg and Dan put in a lot of hours on it so here is hoping.

Didn’t do groceries so I will go out early morning and get it done as the are calling for a storm, rain, high winds, snow, need to be prepared

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you had help. Hope your weather holds out, so you can get what you need.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, did grocery shopping before the storm, now have to make nite to self “freezers are cooked, start cooking” in order to get it all in I took bbq ribs out, going to do up rice pilaff and have an early supper..

It’s starting to half rain/half snow right now, was tempted to go out and bring in basement tree and decorations and talked myself out of it.

I ended up filling the front steps twice now with Free to good home, had a call from a lady that works at the villa senior home in midland, they are looking for a few things so will go back to the shed and see what pretties I can find.

Once I’ve eaten I’ll take a hot bath, put fireplace on and knit..I’m on the last neck warmer, all I will have to do is sew in the ends and sew the deer Hyde on it.

What are you all up to?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Made 5 of the bigger girls bath wraps today. Will decide later if I'm add their initials. While I was sewing those, I set up the embroidery machine to making ornaments. They go so well that once they start unless bobbin runs out, they just do themselves. I want to put them in most of my cards so have quite a few to do.
I still have one more girls wrap to do and 5 for the guys. I did see a cute free pattern for winter hats that also have the animal peekers on them. Could make them for the MI kids. Very quick and easy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Winter wonderland out there, already shovelled my areas, heavy snow but was still able to push into driveway for when Andrew comes after the municipal plowing has been done..

Deb, how is your daughter doing, is she able to go back to work?

Can’t recall Pat, did you say your family who will be staying with you will be here before Christmas

Linda Kay is your sewing group still meeting?

Barb did you get this snow?

Sharon, imagine you are in your gardens enjoying all the nice weather..still purg8ng?

You found your list energy Karen, love all those projects you are doing, saw the kids hats and wished I had little ones..look forward to seeing them. What are you paying for your towels?

Saturday I bought a roll of wash away mesh for the ornament and 1 embroidery spool, think it was $35, not cheap at all. I want to finish a few projects today so I will put some on, I have stars, wreaths, today maybe ornaments..want to make groups9f 4, will rake time though seeing I’ve given some snowflakes away lol

Bath time, grab a coffee and head downstairs and clean up, not sure girls will come today if not I’ve more than I can do to fill my day.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning. Temperatures dropped to 34 this morning. Coldest it's been so far. Supposed to be mid 60's today.
No, our numbers keep going up, so there will be no quilting group for awhile. Probably won't be long til the city is shut down again.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pretty stormy here, I’ll wait til noon and go shovel again..looks as though the next week is snow

Lindakay 60 for me is a perfect temp.
Sorry you won’t be getting out much, what projects will keep you going?

With flooding and all I didn’t ask how all of your thanksgiving went

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No projrcts yet. I need to get my embroidery machine out and make some of those snowflakes.

It was just Todd and I for thanksgiving. Kind of sad we can't be with the family.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, I bought towels at a closeout store here called Ollies. I still erred in just shopping by color and not paying attention to thickness. Trust me you do NOT want the thick heavy towels, they are murder to sew, hard on hands and needles.
The FSL is going so well, I set it up and start it and then go sew on the kids gifts. So far all are going perfectly. I ordered a large roll of WSS and large spools of embroidery thread from Amazon. Both were Brothread brand and are working well.

Linda it's very sad to have lonely holidays. We went to our former DILs and had a nice time. She and I are still tight even though she and my son divorced many years ago. We got to reminising and were laughing so hard.

Victoria Harbour, ON

It is sad indeed, here is hoping numbers will improve this month and Christmas can include more than one household..

Hasn’t stopped snowing all day, shovelled twice and am sure I should be doing it again before bed..my shoulders are saying no, must build up to it grrrr it’s pretty though, goodness know if we get the snow they are calling for where Andrew will put it.

That being said I can see the boys smiling, wonder if they got their trail permits that I bought them for Christmas yet.

Karen and Lindakay, I decided once my 2 ornaments embroidered I carefully cut them out leaving the mesh in tact, now I will only replace with mesh where the ornaments were, big saving..think as well I can load 3 or 4 in same frame is I’m careful, all the ones I’m using are 4”..lot of what I bought I was not fond of but by picking from the 4 kits I managed to get 4 different ones, I will make a few sets of 4 as gifts,,must do a set for me, glad I found my diachronic diamonds

Forgot my view

Wow Betty on the snow - all we have had is rain and more rain. At least with snow you don't have to worry about flooding.

Think I did my final raking of the year today. While it was heavy as the leaves were wet it seemed easier using the rake rather than the leaf blower.

Good thing I decided to check the recycling schedule before I got the Escape loaded up - it is paper and glass this week. I already had 4 Rubbermaid bins in the truck with 4 more to go when I thought I had better check. I'll set the alarm tonight though I am usually up but the garbage pick up is at 7am. Last week I was up on the township road at 6:30 am and the garbage truck was already there. I did some deep cleaning and freezer diving this weekend so I have extra bags. We have a tag system here - we get 50 garbage tags for the year If you need more you have to buy them.

Karen it made me so happy to read you spent Thanksgiving at your former DIL's. Well she still is your DIL in my eyes ..... you didn't divorce her. My brother's first wife was a great gal. I always said she was my SIL because I didn't divorce her my brother did.

UPS is here I have to go. The driver loves Rottis and he will want to love on Chaos.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Now she is just one of my daughters. When they married, she latched right on to me as her mom had died when she was just eight. My son even told me to stay close to her because she needed me. And of course I wasn't giving up my grands either. In fact I gained another when she remarried and had a daughter.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Amen on the shovelling versus cleaning up after a flood, think all of Georgia may is getting the snow hasn’t stopped all day. Now what is UPS delivering today? That is not many bags for an entire year, our allowable is 2 bags a week, we can purchase tags 5/$10. Bet Chaos loves the attention.

Karen, same here with my DIL Lisa, sure makes life easier.

Lindakay did you take your embroidery machine out?

Just crawled into bed..still paining but I just took Dr.Ho off after 49 minutes, hoping pain eases off..

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

It's so much better for the kids when adults can be adults. Her daughter Emily will argue with anyone who says I'm not her real grandma. She always complained because Bob & Jess had two moms and dads and she only had one. She was so much a part of our family that my parents left her the same small inheritance as all the other greats got. When we picked up Bob & Jess for going on a trip. Em went with us too. It's just the way we roll.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No, I haven't got the embroidery machine out yet. Maybe this weekend.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, sunshine day in my neighbourhood, was out at 5:30 shovelling back area, managed to shovel wide enough to back my vehicle in so Andrew could do the entire drive..wasn’t sure if I would do front entrance but did.

Called Greg and told him I would make chicken and sliders for supper, his treat for helping me out.

Making a coffee and heading downstairs, want to be productive seeing as I missed out on 3-4 days and the 25th is just around the corner. Sharon said she will drop in on her way from town, made a throw she wants to show me that she just finished.

Difficult Lindakay when you don’t have a room to leave the machine set up, those suckers weigh a ton.

Again, it’s just so beautiful out there

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful photo. But a lot of snow.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That it is Lindakay, it’s a cold heavy day, good day for making a snowman...sky is very dark, I have to take Cathy to Barrie re further cancel tests, sure hope the bad weather holds off til I get home.

While Cathy is in for her tests I’ll run to the fabric shop, if she is still not ready I’ll go to Lens Mills to occupy my time.

Greg was here to pick up supper last night, he ended up sitting and eating with me while watching quantum leap lol..took leftovers home.ill drop a big bowl off to Sharon on my way home from Barrie...kept enough for supper so won’t have to cook tonight.

I sent one of this gnome bench pillows with him for Melanie, that and an snowlady holding 2 wine glasses..she got a kick out of that.

Best I check if I have ingredients to make bread, not bread machine kind, been years since I’ve made bread, have to go look at u-tube videos in the morning.

Time to shovel off car, let it heat up, glad I’ve heated seats.

Looked at my 2020 Christmas list to see if there is something I can shop for while waiting for Cathy..I need embroidery machine needles, white thread, see if fabric shop had cone thread holder, Melanie borrowed mine not yet returned so I will buy one, put one in her Santa sock.

What are you all up to today..hope it’s exciting.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Finished the girls bath wraps and made three of the boys. Ran some more of the embroidery ornaments while I was sewing on other machine. I have to quit by about 4 o'clock as I'm just too cold by then. It takes me a couple of hours bundled up up stairs to get almost warm again.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tad of sleet going to Barrie but ok on way home.

While putting Dr.Ho on for 40 minutes I sat watching CNN, California/Texas numbers are high, thinking of Liz and you Lindakay, praying you are all safe from Covid as I am for all of you...the numbers are startling

How can people still think it’s a hoax??

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I don't think it's a hoax, Betty, but I do think the #s are exagerated. Friend of mine's aunt passed away - heart attack. They put COVID on the death cert. The family is fighting to get it corrected. Linda Kay DID say that hospitals are getting paid $16k for each "positive" they report. It is a SEVERE cold virus. Not your common cold, certainly, but a cold nonetheless. Yes, we need to be more cautious as it's an upper respiratory cold, but people need to use some common sense. A friend & neighbour of ours is an RN & she was telling me that more COVID is reported that is factual. She's wishing that people would just use some common sense, but sense isn't that common nowadays, so that's why the gov't is stepping in. Just wish they wouldn't step on my toes so hard hahahaha 😁

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, another day like yesterday and most of the snow will be gone, wouldn’t doubt today will be a rain day..closing my mind to the major melting.

Sent a message to Liz, hoping she and her family are doing ok...

Susan, hope your toes aren’t too bruised lol

Got house work done, coffee in hand I will put more FSL on embroidery machine..yesterday I dropped into hummingbird fabric, bought last 3 spools of white embroidery thread, they were out of embroidery needles..lordly not much left in stores.

Beautiful puppy.

Todd was exposed again at work. One of the guys in his shop called in sick this afternoon, stating he got positive results this morning. He had been working all week, knowing he wasn't feeling good.
He worked the night shift, and was only around him about 15 minutes a day.
Please say your prayers.

I need to stay close to home again.

Makes me so mad these idiots go to work feeling bad.
No wonder we can't keep it from spreading.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Very inconsiderate of Todd's co-worker. My BIL caught it by going to FL to visit his daughters. No one there was sick but traveling you can pick it up anywhere.
Many places check temperature but I know it wouldn't tell for me. My body temp is normally low so I can have a fever and it would read within the normal range for others.

This message was edited Dec 4, 2020 10:59 AM

Prayers coming your way Lindakay, hopefully the amount of time Todd spent with coworker isn’t enough to have given him Covid..there really should be penalties for people who do such things.how long will Todd and you be quarantined?

Karen, do you check your temperature everyday? Guess it’s something we all should’ve doing. How is your BIL doing?

I hear of a government agency having Christmas parties with over 900 in attendance, masks or not still the virus can spread.. individuals coming from all over the country, massive gatherings, so very very dangerous for others, simple every day folk like we...gets my blood boiling when I see all of us giving up much late in our years to save lives and others turn their back, saying no big deal..grrrr

Many municipalities surrounding Toronto and Toronto are in danger zone, much closed down, what to the people do, come and shop in Barrie..shouldn’t be allowed

Trying to decide do I want to quit knitting and go get groceries or wait until morning..seems milk and bread go beyond expiration date so quickly, half the time all that is left is a few days away from expiration..tomorrow is d day, going to try break making l9l

Verona, ON

Absolutely miserable weather out there. Chaos and I walked early and it was just raining then. Now it is a rainy snow. By tonight it will be a skating rink out there.

Oh LK how thoughtless and selfish of Todd's coworker. Sending positive thoughts Todd's test results are negative.

Betty I saw on the news that people were flocking from TO to Barrie to shop. Selfish Idiots!! I mainly do what little shopping I have to do online and do it early. Amazon and I are best friends. My Purolator driver loves that I do as he gets to see and play with Chaos. He misses Diesel.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Barry I agree those don't stay home when their 6 should be penalised but they don't I wish there was a way we could enforce it. This is twice he has been exposed from a co worker at work, sick. Makes me mad.
