Best/Worse/What I’d I learn Today..Pull Up a Chair,come chat with friends, everyone welcome!

Karen, so sorry hear about the water damage.

I broke a tooth a week before Ben died and now the oral surgeon has cancelled my surgery. It's going to be months before I can even start the implant process, it sucks. I can't imagine poor Payton missing a front tooth for years & I can certainly sympathize with not smiling, I am limiting my smiles to closed mouth to avoid revealing my missing tooth!
,
they are changing our hours at work and everyone will be required to have 8 to 5 with 1 hour lunch Monday thru Friday. I am not happy about giving up my 4 10s. Up to 3 days a week from home, the other 2 at the office. Inslee is "requesting" people shelter in place and says he will make it mandatory if he has to.

I am grateful to have a job and paycheck. Many people do not. I wish I knew if there was a truck stop I could help at. I have been unable to find any extra hand sanitizer.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hope your headache is better soon Betty.

Karen, so sorry to hear of the flooding.

So many medical procedures getting canceled.
Praying this virus goes away quickly.

Verona, ON

LK how is your foot?

I'm up, Been awake for hours. I'll need a nap for sure.

Going to grocery store early. Want to get some cold meat since the deli can no longer sell sliced meat. I'll get some prepackaged meat in the meat department. I went to buy a can of salmon and cringed when I saw the $6 price tag - needless to say it stayed on the shelf. I have a turkey in the freezer and am thinking about cooking it. More for leftovers as I have lots of excellent recipes for leftover turkey.

Oh Karen I am so sorry about the flooding. One Spring when we lived in the farm house the basement flooded up over the second step. Of course Warren was away at a show. He had unwired the sump pump a some stage for whatever reason. After lugging large pails of water up the stairs for almost 24 hours straight making no headway I said to heck with it. I stood in that water and rewired the sump pump - at that point I really didn't care I was so sore and exhausted.

Headache better Betty ?

Deb it has to be a lot better for you and the dogs now that you are working from home. 11 hours was a long time for all of you.

Think I will walk the TH now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Had just a light covering of snow last night, 7f at the moment with a high of 27..might pick more branches and burn today just to get fresh air.

Ziggy says good morning..

Karen my heart goes out to you, remember about 5 years ago I had a flood and service master did a wonderful job but had to throw so much out..since you’ve recently moved there can you go after the sellers? Likely you will have to setup with pumps but what a worry

I took everything out of front closet.did a clean out and purge then on to sweep downstairs, hoping not to get white footprints throughout the house.

LIndakay, did you bring roses inside to enjoy?

Best I not sit too long, could get lazy and I want to make a few trips for Easter totes out of back shed!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Foot is still sore. The boot helps keep it stabilized, but it is still swollen and bruised.
No, I love the Rose's to stay on the bushes. My allergies don't like the smell of Rose's in the house.
Not much going on here. I have made 24 of those thread catchers. I will give some to quilting friends. The others I took to the quilt shop. Hopefully when people can start shopping again she will sell some.
Todd went to Walmart this morning. Still a lot of empty shelves. He did find some Clorox wipes. They are rationing what water and fresh meat they have. He was allowed only 1 gallon of water. Guess we will be eating frozen meals, as that is all we can get for now. Some restaurants are open for to go orders only. They bring it out to your car, and it is credit or debit only. They are afraid the virus will be on the cash.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can you post photo of the thread catchers LIndakay..
Guess only thing one can de is rest the foot..
I don’t have many roses, don’t do well with them but when I go I cut one off and set it on dish of water for my table.

I did the two side cupboards, lower flooring inside that still had original flooring , set the new linoliym and looks so clean, must buy a gallon of white paint for upper shelves..figure that was my ‘today’s project’ and now I can sew.

Paul asked if I’d make about 10 face masks, found some manly looking yardage in my stash..saw a pattern online that has a place you can set in a sheet of Kleenex between the liners to help filtration, might try one of them and see how time consuming they are..

With such a shortage on masks know they are not as good as masks but they are asking and posting requests for some so will try different kinds and see which I will make

That is my day..

Think I will cook the potatoes I have left before they rot and take out garlic chops from freezer

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

When we finally got to bed, I couldn't sleep, running through my head what might still be on the floor we didn't get to. Was up until after 5, back up at 9. Thankful it was just rainwater so we can dry things out. When son's basement flooded, it was sewer back up, so much destroyed.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did you get company to come 8n Karen and put fans on to dry the area?

Drats, staying in like good girl, kept busy all day and now when I want to relax Rogers t.v. Keeps losing connection so no sense in getting interested in a movie..

Coolness if the evening setting in, can’t warm up so thinking I might take a hot bath, get my Sony reader out, climb into bed and relax..tomorrow is another day

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Here ya go Betty. Folded up, and unfolded. You twist them, and the bottom folds into the top. Easy storage when not in use.

Afternoon all, cold day but sun peering in..
I can’t seem to warm up though, Might might call for 3rd bath of the day.

I have to say it is wonderful getting all the calls from family and friends checking up to see whether you need some thing or just to chat, I’ll pass it along as I’ve been calling my mom every day and chatting for about a half an hour should do that before I get too tired and dozing off.

Did make some facemasks, changed the design Somewhat , found floral wire to put on top to close it where the nose is , a place to open and put a filter in, now that I’ve got the pattern down pat I’m tired lol

With no place to go, no schedule there isn’t a race to get anything done.

Greg called first thing this morning, he and Melanie wanted to know if I needed groceries, nope.

Made them face masks, they are outside for them to pick up, they don’t want me catching anything should they come in...

Ohhh just came and brought me flowers, brightens up my day!

Jeff he called and got me set for conference calls between Greg/Mel, himself and all the grands, we will be doing check ins several times a day..

So for now, all is well in my world.

Sure hope the same in yours
Keep safe my friends

Lordy have flowers 8n every room and not even my birthday..family and friends sure are going all out making sure their elders are ok..a blessing for sure!

The phone conference is a GREAT idea.

I hope to get some tidying up done and maybe the easy new navy curtains hung in the guest room. Or not... every weekend I end up sleeping in and napping. Seems reading and napping is all I do anymore (besides full time job anyhow!)

I agree with you about the floral wire. My concerns about the normal mask construction was exactly what you are working to eliminate: the gap at the nose. One of the reasons the N95 is considered more effective is that it can clamp down around the nose more effectively then the regular masks.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Your body is saying you need it Pat, rest, body is telling you something...yes, no gap t nose Nd insert for filter, happy with it..

Verona, ON

I read in the paper and also saw online that people are putting up their Christmas lights to show signs of hope. Betty you might need to go out to your shed.

Absolutely stellar day here. The sun has shone all day but there is snow in the forecast tomorrow. Oh joy !!

The TH aren't too happy with the number of walks they are getting every day now. They come inside and nap then sleep all night. Maybe the 3 of us will lose some much needed weight

I desperately need my new glasses but the place is closed and will reassess on Mar 30. We all know they will stay closed for much longer.

Stay safe, well and enjoy self distancing.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful flowers Betty, glad to hear you have so many friend checking on you.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi all - you don't need to send anyone to check on me - my daughter just did, bless her. She's in Winnipeg & me in central Alberta, so it was by phone call.
LK - how's your foot? Hope it's betting better.
Betty - your headache gone away?

Everything we usually do from Sunday to Thurs incl has been cancelled. Now we can do projects that we didn't have time for before. Planted seeds, knitting a prayer shawl for a friend (yes, will give it to her to not touch for 48 hours), and practising the piano (taking lessons). Seeds are starting to sprout - cucumbers, beets, & garlic Will see when peppers, tomatoes & other stuff sprout.
Will try to post more often - bless you all 💖

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for checking in Susan. Sounds like everyone is on lockdown.
Stay safe everyone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, snowing here, just knew Mother Nature was going to give another one or two good snowfalls before spring really appears. It’s ok, having hot chocolate and watching flakes fall..like many others trying to figure out how to fill my day.

Dianne, you should have told me that yesterday, took down all the lights on front deck as I thought it was time, does the little pine tree that is solar lit count? Lol
hope there is no delay in getting your glasses.

Susan, all church services and functions closed here, in fact unless it’s a doctor appt./groceries we are asked to stay in, am sure all of you are the same.

What is the hardest part for you??

Haven’t been out since Friday, thInk this morning I will make pie crusts, make a chocolate pie and freeze remaining crusts for another day..now to find something to do.

Doubtful Brian will come, at least if he did I’d have some clean up

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I think the uncertainty of it all is the hardest part. Not having an end date in mind. Seeing so many of the things that my sons have worked on not only NOT progressing but losing ground. Financially my youngest is sinking more every day. I try to remind myself. We are all healthy, that is best anyone can ask for right now.

Verona, ON

Pat I couldn't agree more about the uncertainly being the hardest part. I practice self distancing most days of the year - Warren and I were loners. But I have had to stop watching the news as it is so full of doom and gloom. Yesterday GMA had an online site with good and cheerful news. I will go see if it is still up later today.

Ewww ticks have really ramped up their appearance on Chaos. I pulled 4 off of him just now and see 6 more that need removing. He is fairly co-operative with the removal of the first 2 or 3 but then becomes a writhing demon. Ticks are around year round as long as the temp is 30* or above. I've pulled ticks off of my TH while standing in a foot of snow. I ordered some highly recommended flea and tick collars but they have yet to arrive.

Betty I have tackled some paperwork that I've been ignoring for weeks. It is just mundane stuff but still needs to be done. Anyone else doing something they have ignored for awhile?

Still snowing.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Diann, ask your vet for brave to. It is a large chewy pill, taken once every 3 months. It is expensive at $50.00 each, but that is what we use for our dogs. We have not seen a tick or flea on them for years.

Betty, can you share the link you had for the facemask with pocket?
Our quilting group is making masks for our hospital workers.

What worries me, are the people that continue to travel, even though they have been told not too. Just today, a cashier at Walmart told me, a guy came in and was telling her how he enjoyed his trip to Florida at the beaches. She told him he wasn't supposed to be traveling. He said he never heard anything like that. Is he living in a cave?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

LK I think some people are hearing what they want to hear.

It seems this is shaping up to be a bad year for ticks. My DGD in MI has found several. To be fair she spends a lot of time in the woods too. She likes to go hunting for sheds and unusual old bottles and rocks.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LIndakay it’s a combination of a lot of masks, could do photo’s of how I do mine..if feeling better in morning will do. Those pills would be well worth it if they work.

Guess because we all look healthy people just don’t seem to take it seriously and all will pay for it.

Ziggy is so keeping me company today..at odds as well, thInk animals know it’s not the norm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I was sure pat that I had responded to your post, maybe didn’t press send.
That is the hardest part, watching our young ones loosing ground..cant even see them, hug them and say all will be ok

Verona, ON

OK Linda so it is called "Brave to"not Bravecto? I'll have to leave a message. The vets are closed except for emergencies.

Still snowing here. It's still a wet snow so hopefully be gone by tomorrow.

Diesel came in with his hind end and belly covered with wet mud. I moved a pallet I had emptied of blocks of wood and forgot that's where he likes to sit and look out over the lake. What a mess ! He was sitting in the kitchen waiting for his treat before I noticed.

Ontario has shut down nonessential businesses. However the liquor and beer stores are still open. Made me chuckle - guess it depends who you are whether they are essential.

Deb how are you and the dogs faring.?

Enjoying how it is still light outside at this hour.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, it is Bravecto.

https://us.bravecto.com/for-dogs

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Closed here too, but you can order carry out including beer...but don't open it until you get home.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How odd, wrote a long post and cyber space has it I guess...
Not much going on here, seeing I’m feeling better today I said Brian could come and do more work, Sharon will drop him off around noon as she has to go to Midland..I’ll stay upstairs and he can work downstairs then I’ll use the steamer and go around everything.

I’m hoping it will warm up a bit, enough that I can pick some branches and burn tonight...get some fresh air.

Dianne I was looking at essential services and not sure why if things are this bad why some are allowed to keep working.

Did manage to go downstairs and make another mask..as I clean the mess I’ll use up a few more scraps sitting there and make a few more..why can I not make just one of anything?? Lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Well.... it's because "essential" services mean if we don't work, YOUR life is in jeopardy ! You need Medical, fire, police, groceries, if I don't work, a caregiver will not show up at a client's house. The point is to keep everyone home & safe, as much as possible, and slow the spread of the disease. Imagine if you had no heat, no phone & no one to call to fix it!

As much as I hate it, I will be working from home 3 out of 5 days a week. What a nightmare to bring computer home with me, print stuff the next day at the office etc. YUK. the phone rang off the hook today and I did not get all the callbacks made, THAT does not happen to me very often!!

Once I am home & working, I am responsible to log in & out with my lead. Retrieve my voice messages every two hours and answer all emails within 3. This will be challenge. I will need to set an alarm or I will never remember! Create a summary each day of what I accomplished. I am praying this does not last long.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad you are feeling better. Don't overdo.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, dull day, 30F

Pat perhaps when you get into a routine you will enjoy the not having to travel, with all the guidelines sounds like you will be reporting more than working. Let’s hope another month or two and we will all be back to regular routines.

Judy what plans do you have with granny for today?

Been calling my mom daily to see how she is doing, I don’t seem to be able to get it into her head about staying inside..think she goes shopping every day and to several stores.

Just got a message from Darlene, their Eta is 6:00pm providing the border doesn’t detain them. Will be nice to be able to visit with her and John once the 14 day quarantine is over,

What are you all up to today, hope more exciting than my day..

Going to vacuum, dust and wash floor upstairs, construction dust seems to float upstairs, then my footprints from go8ng downstairs many times a day. Makes it 10 times worse.

Sure hoping Brian can finish today so I can get downstairs in order..im beyond thrilled with the outcome..must save a few pennies and have him come back before summer and get wood working room, laundry room and computer room done as well..another $2,000 ought to do it....that is a lot of pennies right? Lol

So much for my rambling, coffee and cereal then work

Main goal this afternoon is see if I can get the wheel barrel empty out of storage and start picking up limbs..need excessive..yard is soooo dirty, yukkk

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, sure hope your mom is taking some precautions. We keep wipes in the car and use them everytime we get back in the car.

This message was edited Mar 25, 2020 1:41 PM

Victoria Harbour, ON

She says she does, let’s hope.

Darlene and John just crossed the border, not much screening, simply said are either of you sick? Doesn’t sound right to me!

Cleaned front deck, set pillows out, looks comfy, love it when I can leave front door. Open..watch us get a snow storm now

Did all that work. This morning, Brian is up and down to cut drywall on back deck, what a mess.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yesterday, I think I said, I popped a rib out and called the Chiropractor. He was closed, but met me at his office. Today I got a call from his office, offering an app't if I wasn't doing well yet - I'm fine, so no app't needed. How nice, eh?
My seedlings are 50% sprouted - beets, cucumbers & garlic - tomatoes, gr peppers, pumpkin & cabbage haven't yet

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sounds about right at the border. If they aren't testing, what can they do.
I thought I had read the borders were closed.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, Susan, glad there is no need for you to see him, comforting that they make themselves available.i needed another set of needles but haven’t called, enough needing help that I won’t take their space.

Think Karen if it’s just to cross borders i.e. shopping trips, vacation etc they do not let you cross..

I don’t listened to the news all day, too depressing but surfing through the channels looking for something to watch I came across dr, Oz..part I walked away but then he brought on a few doctors supporting the successful use of a medicine used for malaria years back being successful..thought to myself if I had it I certainly would take the risk of having the med.interesting as well is that although seniors are vulnerable it is hitting the younger population..think I will tape the 4pm show..just hope all of you and yours stay safe.

What a mess downstairs, think I’m about at the end of reno’s for now, want to clean up..starting to bother me, what is worse he just installed more lighting thus I see more dust lol

What have you been up to today?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Still making facemask. 100 almost done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wonderful, I thought I was doing ok at 18

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

You are 18 ahead of me Betty!

10 hours at the office at least the phone wasn't driving me crazy. I worked my butt off and could not keep up yesterday, better today!

They loaded my laptop with the necessary programs and I tested them out today. I have not done a complete check, and I want to make a cheat sheet of instructions incase I forget after I go independent at home. I also need to copy down all my passwords since I keep them in a notebook at work that I will NOT have at home. I think I am going to be OK.

By far the biggest difference will be the inability to print AND even worse (or better?? LOL) The phone will not be forwarded to me, I will have to call in remote and retrieve my messages several times a day. That will make it harder. I have caller ID at work so I do not have to hear & understand when people leave their call back numbers. You might be surprised at the number of people that leave lousy messages! I can't understand their name & after 4 attempts trying to understand the phone they tell me....

Life is good. It's up to each one of us to determine what risks we will take. For me, I am pretending there are bullets flying out there, not virus germs, and that helps keep me home!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

On Fri. we are having a photo taken. We have never had a professional photo, even our wedding was just snapshots. A local photographer posted she would come take free front porch photos so I figured it would be a nice surprise for our kids for our anniversary.
This is us 60 years ago. Would you believe i still have my orchid? I put it in a box in the back window while we were on our honeymoon and it dried perfectly.
