Tonight I'm thinking of those who are west of us, in BC - they're contending with forest fires & evacuations. Never thought much of my coughing & my headache until I saw an Air Quality advisory for those with lung & COPD issues. I don't, but feel badly for those who do. My thoughts & prayers go out to those affected.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Almost lunch, been busy this morning, working on the towel projects, thinking by the time I call it a day I'll have the 5 done.

Greg called this morning to tell me that Charlie, Melanie's bio dad is full of cancer, just hospitalized him, 63 is young in my eyes.

Watching BC and wow so much destruction, poor folks that have been displaced not knowing if they will have a home to go back to. Joanne my girlfriends children lice not far from that region and she is flying out Wednesday for a 2 week visit, if it weren't for losing her flight $$ she would go at a later date.

Eats at Sharon's, sounds so yummy and I'm hungry, must be because I took meat out of freezer to make supper vs buy it next door.

You gals all amaze me with the care you are providing hubbies..prayers and hugs coming your way.

Raining, will it ever end?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Popping in to see how all are doing ..
Honestly, Sharon and Pat .. you are hoeing one heck of a row ..
There are lots of 'tricks of the trade' re the depends changes .. sometime we use a 'liner' inside the depend product .. that way you just remove the liner, not the whole depend ...
GREAT idea re the shower curtain Pat ..
A messy clean up is a toughie at home on a bed that won't go up nor down .. sometimes if you can seat the person in a bath tub you can do the deed ..
Just am so in awe of any and all who care for loved one at home .
Lorna's Mom's back has been extremely painful since the end of March, she was doing far to much pulling, pushing and tugging of Lorna's Dad.
She is on meds, but they aren't helping much .. Lorna worries sick ..

Lorna, dang me, FELL today at work, her leg came right off .. the 4 fellas all wear head phones, couldn't hear her, and her cell was in her truck .. I was out cutting the lawn .. came in, checked my cell, and I went down to the cemetery, just 7 minutes away .. she was fine, but I curse that leg !!!! Just totally boggles my mind that she can't get funding for what is referred to as a C LEG .. she SO deserves it ..

Barb .. how are you doing, and, Norm ?

SAying hi to everyone .. Susan .. have relatives in Williams Lake .. they have been evacuated ..

Take care everybody ..

~M~

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Marilynne, it's a pain but Lorna REALLY NEEDS to carry her cell phone and keep it charged FAITHFULLY. I made a "nerd pack" for my husband. Basically 2 jean pockets sewn together and a strap attached to go around the neck to store his phone & wallet in. He can then have it with him even if he is in shorts or something with no pocket. People will say "I have it next to me" which is NOT a lot of help if you are on the ground and can't reach it! That cell phone is her LIFELINE!

I'm not familiar with the C leg. I don't know what my husband's is called.

I have made nerd packs for some of my client's as well. ANYTHING I can do to help make them safer is a blessing.

The fires are scary. I have never been in a situation where the fires have threatened my home & pets. What a terrible thing to face.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats, not good at all "M" re Lorna falling, one of these days her dpfall won't be as insignificant. Is the problem she is having with the leg still because if the prothesis doc who didn't get it rifpght so many times? Sorry to hear about her mom, back back and mourning will take some time to get over.

Great ideas Pat and "M"

When I hear of what is going on in so many of your lives I feel like a cry baby.
Talked to Greg this aft, Mel's bio dad is doing poorly today, say canvocer is all over,

Took a walk in the gardens, so muggy outside, been years since I've seen so many bees..all enjoying the flowers.

Checking in on you all.

Pat and Sharon I can so identify and understand how you are feeling. Warren wanted to stay at home and I promised I would. keep him home. You do what you have to because you love that person. I toff my hat to you both.

Betty made me a 'nerd pack' and I love it. Initially I wanted it to carry dog treats when the TH and I were out and about in the bush. She also made me a lovely matching bag. Now as well as dog treats I also carry my phone in it. Sometimes when I go out to lunch I use the nerd bag as it is small but I can wrap it around my wrist. Twice over the years I have slipped on ice when I have been out trekking the bush. Both times I knocked myself right out to come to with dog eyes staring at me.

Agree with M you are hoeing a long row Sharon and Pat.

The TH love their new area BUT while they will pee in the area they will not poop.Just shaking my head. Have a couple of tricks up my sleeve to solve that problem.

No workers this week Mike is at another job but I knew he would be gone. When he comes back he will build the dock plus some other tasks. Honestly I am enjoying the quiet as are the TH.

Just flabbergasted that Lorna's leg is STILL not functioning property. M I know you have championed contacts to rectify this to no avail. She truly is a trooper.

When is it that your friend comes to visit Susan ?

Pat and Sharon please don't hesitate to talk about your days and the challenges you meet each day. These ladies helped keep me going when Warren was ill.

OK Chaos is throwing their food bowls around so I had better get them something to eat.

LK are you in the triple digits temp wise ?

Stay safe and cool everyone
Dianne and her TH

My darn lawn mower isn't working. I am hoping Ben can fix it. I've been out spraying chemicals and pulling weeding, pulling up dead weeds and in general tidying up. the RX isn't ready for my Dad, so I'm making the best of it here.

I am trying to cut my quilting book & magazine collection in half. It's not working. I may have to come up with a different solution to emptying up a book shelf for son LOL.

Betty, so many pretty flowers and your pond is so peaceful looking! How many ponds do you have now? I thought I remember you reducing my one recently.in the last year.

Sorry to heat the fires are so bad in Canada. I pray no one is injured.
Our temps have been in the high 90's, we have had small thunderstorms the past 2 days, so that cools it off some, but them the humidity gets high after the storms.
Sorry to hear about Melanie's Dad, sending prayers for all.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

We dogged the bullet today. We had a big lightening and thunder storm but he rest of the storm moved North of us and then East. They got whacked. Sixty mph winds, hail and then big time flash floods. I was really disappointed the storm missed us. But I am not now.

The dogs got two walks today and I did 2 loads of laundry. I made chicken salad for sandwiches and potato salad. I did it again. I made enough potato salad for an army. I do not know if I will ever get used to cooking such small amounts. Garden helper will be here tomorrow and he loves my potato salad.

So sorry about the major fire in your area. We are in flash flood season and 10 people drowned Sunday at the Arizona/Utah border area where the rain was miles away from where they were but moved down the canyon and wiped them out. Four adults and 6 children.

Betty give Melanie our prayers regarding her bio father. May he be blessed in his final days that they can control the pain. Your garden flowers are lovely. I am still waiting for cloudy weather so I can garden.

Marilyn, thanks for the idea. I will try that depends idea. Please tell Lorna I am sorry about her fall. And yes, she needs to have her cell on her person. If I had not have had my cell, when I got knocked down by the kid on a bike in the greenbelt, I would have bled a lot more. I as able to call our neighbor and he came, helped me, called an ambulance, called my daughter and then took the dogs home and assured Vern I was OK, just going to ER for quick check.

Diane, so glad to see you post. We would all love to see your new deck when you get ready for the reveal.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Susan's coming on Saturday!!!!
We have friends in BC & he posted something about being concerned about the fires, but not sure if he's affected. I'll call him tomorrow.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, couldn't sleep so decided it's up and at it!

Happy Birthday debbie, here is hoping you have a sunshine day! Linda and would have been Roger's birthday today..
Sharon just think what damage to your gardens had the storm/flood hit your region, glad it moved on,myou didn't need a clean up for sure! Hard to make a small batch of potatoe salad, al least having done so your gardener will enjoy. I've been buying container of salad made fresh every day from next door, $4.98 for rather large container and talk, about tasty.

Lindakay, 90's is what you usually get for temps at this time of year right?

Lordy Mother Nature sure is an unhappy camper, so many flood, wild fired, extreme heat, so many losing their homes and many lives lost.

4 more, sleeps Susan, nice to have something to look forward to. Am sure you will show her a grand time and she will love camping..

Muffin and coffee time, waiting formdaybreak so I can get garbage out to the curb

Up n at'em here too . Lorna will be up soon .. DH and I are going grocery shopping.

Had a small thunder boomer last evening .. nothing of consequence ..
I have explored 'slot canyons' within the Grand Canyon .. my friend who lives in AZ, would only take me on a day with no threat of rain as she knew all to well the trouble we could get into .. must say, I was a tad 'paranoid'

Off to make breakfast

Have a great day

On my bucket list, fly to Vegas for a a week or so, rent a car and visit the canyon..something to beware..was waiting for Rita to decide what she is up to on Christmas, who knows..

Is Lorna suffering any side effects this morning,p as some of the aches pains occur a few days later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well I finished the lounge chair towel cover ups, all 5' e for Linda (her birthday today) this year's travel companions Rita and Suzanne and one for myself.

Just ironed the label on John's baby quilt to show he made it lol and I'm caught up..

Pat arrives at 9am and when she leaves I will start quilting..was not suppose to rain but felt raindrops as I put garbage to the curb so guess it's an inside day.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers for Mel and her family. Are they going to send him to TO or Barrie for treatment?. Or is he going to be like Warren and decline treatment?. Warren finally agreed to radiation as that would help with his pain.

It is so hot and muggy here that the TH all ran home half way through their morning walk. I took their lead and headed home too. The skeeters are the size of jumbo jets. The cool tile floor in the down stairs is a perfect spot for the TH to splay out. I shut the infloor heat off during the warmer weather.

I promise I will post some photos soon. You all know I am terribly inept when it comes to doing something like that.

The new dog area is working out well. Chaos really likes it. He zooms around in there like greased lightening .. I had Mike leave a healthy tree standing in the area. It gives a bit of shade plus it has other purposes.

Judy are you a Grandma yet ? I always used to say to Warren it didn't really bother me that we never had kids but I was sure going to miss being a Grandma.

Dawn my cleaning lady is here this morning. She cleans my house like it was her own - I like that very much.

Oh M wish we were closer - we could have shared a cuppa tea. I was up when you
got moving this morning.

I have found a Stringray oldies station on my TV/internet carrier They just played Jailhouse Rock. I was never a big fan of Elvis (Betty don't hate me because I said that). What was the tune he played on Ed Sullivan that they would only show Elvis from the waist up ? I remember there was a word in a Door's song to be preformed on Sullivan. He asked they use another word or they couldn't play. They agreed then went on their merry way and included the banned word. They were never invited back.

Sassy has taken to spending a lot of time upstairs. Chaos just loves her but he is so big she makes sure she has some cover like a table or chair. She waits until he is asleep then curls up beside him.She eats with the TH now too.

Stay safe and cool everyone.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yessssssssss 4 more sleeps
Have a neighbour coming to water our garden while we're away, and tomorrow's she's coming to see what I need her to do. I'm going to show her our home too - she didn't see it during its worst, but even though it's not finished (no siding yet - waiting until we get our pensions this month) and although it's patched over all the drywall cracks (floor to ceiling), we aren't painting just yet. Everything in its own good time.

Dianne - glad the new dog is settling in. Glad also to hear that Sassy's going well when Chaos is sleeping lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Think those pills are helping me sleep a tad better, slept till 7:30 this morning, few tv breaks during the night but all and all good night's rest.

Dianne,
I so would love to see photo's of your project, bet you and the TH are loving it.what kind of dog is Sassy? Smiling re Elvis, going to miss the collingwood elvis festival starts same day I leave on my trip..think ed Sullivan also wanted less hop movement, can you imagine what they would think of today's goings on on tv, the language, the nudity?? Sometime I wonder why they add it in as the segment would be much better without.

The Mosquitos are the same here, yesterday morning I went out to put the trash to curbside and they almost carried me away..with so many trees in my backyard then add all this rain they have a perfect breeding spot..is it August when they usually die off? Can't wait as I'll be able to spend more time outside.

Was wondering about the same about Judy being a grandma, has to be soon..

Lindakay, do you have skitters and black flies.

Glad you have someone coming over to water plants/look after home, one less worry.

Linda is coming over this morning, in the meantime while waiting for her I will quilt a bit, hoping to have Santa off the quilt frame by tonight.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We have tons of skeeters, but no black flies. We have flies here, but they don't bite, just a nuisance.
I went to San Antonio last week end, it was my Granddaughters 10th birthday. She wanted, and got a mermaid tail. She loves swimming.

Thumbnail by taters55

Good morning everyone.

Dull, grey day but hot and humid. Rain plus T and L this afternoon.

LK I just love the mermaid tail your DGD got. Black flies are gone but the deer flies have replaced them. They take quite a piece of flesh when they bite.

Sassy is a cat Betty. She was Streak's twin. I knew Elvis was on Ed Sullivan's show but I can't remember what the song was when he performed.

Need to get something to eat will BBL

Looking forward to a Red Hatter's luncheon today - have my requisite red hat with a tiny purple bow, my long blue summer dress, and white sandals. Now, to pick out the dangley earrings lol There are 5 of us going from our community, and several communities are meeting up in Olds at a restaurant.
Saturday Susan arrives, Monday we're going to a senior's BBQ, Tues we go camping for 5 days, then on Aug 3rd we have Christmas dinner - gosh I love living here, and being Healthy!!!!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hiya ..

Dianne .. I think it may have been 'Blue Suede Shoes' ? Lotsa hopping around with that one, used to watch my brothers and their gfs dance to it :-)

Betty, I walk Lorna out to her truck each morning, I carry her traveller full of coffee, it's a fair trot .. I am so bad with distance measures .. but .. I'd say about 100' from the house, by the time I put the coffee inside the truck, I am fighting off those dang skeeters .. gawd .. Lorna douses herself in bug spray .. I won't ..
I take a walk about the yard, lasts about 15 minutes and I am done !!

Oh my LK, what a super pic of your sweet DGD .. umm .. can she walk with that on ?

Off to my rheumatologist today .. am sure it'll be a thrill .. NOT!! He's pretty point blank, and a good diagnostician .. but I really find the examination of my joints, especially my neck, to be uncomfortable ..

AM attaching a pic of DGD, Brooklyn, and, DGS, Austin. Took them to lunch yesterday .. happy to say the DGD seems to have found her brain, dumped the fellow that was causing her grief, and, is trying to get on with life .. she turns 19 on the 29th, but, I do believe the drugs she dabbled in made her lethargic and just very UNBrooklyn like ..
Happily, Austin is breezing through high school and doing well
Must thank y'all for your prayers when needed :-)

Best get a bustle on

~M~

Barb was that you and Norm letting those bisons loose yesterday in NH ?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay love the mermaid tail..did you knit/crochet it?? Absolutely lovely looking mermaid.

I'll have to research the Elvis song, I think Nothing but a hound dog?? Our debbie would know ..and is kitty Sassy? Lol

Looks like rain here..Lordy had a/c upstairs but downstairs is like a freezer, Suzanne and Lucinda were here and I had to get them Jammie's.

Trying to decide if I will have a late lunch or early supper?

My puppy, Charlotte, who broke her tail is in surgery today. Break was healing, but she had some open sores from the splint that had rubbed raw and broke down tissue. They have to amputate to just below the fracture. It's been a rough couple of days here.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ahhh Deb, sorry to hear that, not a wonder it's been bad few days..poor thing!

Kyle just called me, Charlie, Mel's dad got news last night that he is full of cancel, getting morphine and meds to keep him asleep and no pain..know it's not nice but hope he doesn't linger on.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Prayers being said that Charlie doesn't suffer.

Charlotte's out of surgery, but they want to keep her overnight. I'll pick her up after work tomorrow.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

"M", you forgot the picture.

No, I did not make that til. I wish I was that good. No she can't walk with it on, she was carried to the pool the first time, then when she is done swimming, she removes the tail.

Sorry to hear about your puppy. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

Oh Deb poor little pup. Debbie's Miss Izzy lost part of her tail.when she was a pup. I so miss seeing pics of Izzy with her tongue out.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers for Mel's dad. I pray he will be kept pain free.

Ended up I did about nothing today. I started a new book and it is an excellent read.We didn't have a long walk this morning - too hot and waaaay too many skeeters.I have to find something to put on the ground in the TH's new area. The zoom around and the dust just flies around and into the house.

Had to give my yearly rant about not killing the snakes (black/rat) . This particular black snake was very big. One of the largest I have seen. It was stretched across the lane with several inches on both sides of the lane. I just get the woolies when they hang down from the trees when I am walking.

Stay safe and cool everyone.
Dianne

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh, poor tail-less puppy!
Sad about Mel's dad, Charlie - here's hoping he doesn't linger & suffer. Prayers being said.
That mermaid tail is pretty darned awesome!

Went to Red Hatters luncheon, had fun, then our friend Pat had to rush home from the luncheon because her DH got called into Calgary to see the Dr - apparently his heart monitor showed his heart stopped for 4 seconds, and the Dr is worried. It looks like he'll have to have a pacemaker after all. Not that the Dr likes that - it's another surgery, and Glenn's in his 70's, not doing well.
We (royal we - Bob did it. I couldn't walk an energetic dog!) walked their dog, and spent time with him, which he appreciated.
I have a neighbour coming to water our garden while we're away 5 days camping.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

At puppy Charlotte can have long & happy life without her tail!

Betty, that is not a bad thought or wish, when the end comes most of us wish for pain free and swift. My poor Dad is in pain, unhappy and dying slowly.

Dianne, who do you have to lecture? I KNOW I would have to remind myself "it's OK, it's a GOOD snake, it HELPS us keep down the undesirables!" but I'd still struggle!

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Charlotte will still have part of her tail. I'm hoping it will be enough that I can still show her. Just need to see how it heals. She stayed at the vet clinic overnight, I'll pick her up after work today.

Glad I don't see snakes around here! I'd have to remind myself constantly that it's a good snake!

Verona, ON

Well the Weather Liars said sunny, hot and humid today. They got 2 of the 3 right - it's hot and humid. I spent about 2 hours cutting the lawn (such as it is) and began weeding in the flower garden that is near where the guys have their work bench set up. I was wringing wet when I came in.

Pat I live a mile in from the township road on a private lane. There are a few of us who live here year round and some cottages. I am very secluded and the only buildings I see are across the lake. Yesterday the people I had to speak to are visiting a cottager.

Any news about Charlie Betty ?

Dianne and her TH

One of the guys working here was laughing about something that happened to his partner. Apparently as she was going up the stairs she saw something and thought is was Doug's belt so picked it up. Yep it was a snake. Personally I don't think it was funny at all.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I do not like snakes of any kind. We have rattle snakes here, so when I see a snake, I scream and run, then have to change my pants! :) Hubby will go look for it, and kill a rattler, but not the black snakes. We also have scorpions and tarantulas, I don't like them either.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, been a long day, been up since 2am, with rifpger's birthday Tuesday and news of Charlie I was very restless. Roger got ill and 3 weeks later had passed on, will be same with Charlie.

Sometimes I just don't understand hospital procedure, the specialist did a conference call with Jan (Charlie's wife) and apparently Charlie had to be in the room to hear what was being said, now can you tell my why?? So out of his induced coma to hear such news..he managed to say goodbye to everyone and they induced into a coma..hoping as well that the Lord comes for him quickly!

Be back in a tad

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sad they had to take him out of the coma to listen to that, he was probably so drugged he did not realize what was going on.
Keeping him and family in our prayers.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Hard to tell if someone would WANT to be taken out of the coma and given the opportunity to say goodbye... I might want that depending on how fast I got to that point, I might feel the need to say goodbye if I had not before.

I hope Charlotte's recovery is quick and does not ruin her show potential.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

How is Charlotte Deb?
Snakes terrify me, we have ratttlers in our region but I've never seen one, as forther types am sure they are around but again not seen one, thank goodness!

Susan, glad youoinedhe Red Hatters, you will get a whole venue of ladies to befriend. Ahhh Susan arrives tomorrow, oh happy days for you.

"m" love the photo's of the grands..beautiful and handsome young ones. Brooklyn look like her old self, likely take awhile to get her energy and interests back.

Thanks for prayers and concerns re Charlie..Mel just texted me that they are devastated, am sure they are having gone through much the same years ago..tummy churning, fell unrest.

They were calling for a sunshine weekend, seems we may haverain later today and sunday.

Going to spend the daypurging again and making a trip to the dump either this aft or tomorrow morning, other than that nothing planned..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending my prayers for Mel and all your family Betty. Hoping Charlie doesn't linger....
