Best, worse, what did I learn today?chat with friends old & new

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all.
Wonderful "M" that Gird up is doing well enough to do some sightseeing..did you get to see or talk with Lorna's parents..how are they doing

Think you and I will be in the sky about same time..not sure I'm excited about going, perhaps a little apprehensive

Judy, omg, not the veil again..me thinks you ought to have the bride take it home. I can see you are going in a million directions, sit, make that list, prioritize and look after one item at a time...am sure it will come together without a hitch

Susan, good luck with your tests..will be a long road to recovery but know once you get back into your own hipome, worry free, getting yourself into a routine you will improve.. Round robin, that sounds like fun..is it one like we did where each add a border..so love my Christmas quilt done in that swap?

Wonder how Deb is doing..am sure these shows although fun and a time to meet breeders whom you've become friends with is fun but also very stressful..

Had company all day, was an in and out kind of day, had a little nap at supper time, here is hoping I can sleep tonight..doing the old 2 more sleeps before leaving. Lol

Decided late afternoon to make myself a purse that is easier to carry this trip, one I can't fill, got half done and will finish early a.m.

Need to go to the bank tomorrow and get USA funds (that ought to hurt the pocket book with exchange so high) , pick up groceries for the house sitters and I'm ready to travel

Night night

Long day at the conference. Glad to hear all went well with Gords surgery. Pups are barking at every little noise in the hotel hallway. Someone said it's supposed to rain overnight, hopefully not too much rain. At least the hotel hosting everything was able to get us a room.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

yes, Betty - it's exactly like the Round Robin we did in 2012. I have time (if not much energy) on my hands. Until I get back into our own home I want to settle into doing productive stuff so I'm not sitting here either getting depressed or not doing anything to keep me involved and motoring. Too sedentary a life is what got me into this trouble to a great degree. The reason I was sedentary was depression and that was caused by "the tenants".....

Betty - you're well enough to go on your trip? How Wonderful!! I know you're pleased :-) I'm pleased for you!!

My minor test this morning was a cystoscopy, and it went off without a hitch and there were no problems - all clear. The specialist said he'd call the results into my Dr.
Tomorrow I go for an abdominal scan - 8 hour fast, and it's at 8am, so it's early enough that I can have breakfast at a descent time.
Still waiting for the colonoscopy my Dr also ordered.
Within 3 months I'll be seeing a specialist about my Warfarin.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, yes, as long as I leave all fats alone for now I'm feeling well enough to so

Lindakay, thanks for letting us know Jayne is ok..I'll be so close to her I believe when going to myrtle beach next week..I'll wave for sure.

Just got news a very dear friend passed in..he was Roger's best friend, always looked on to make sure boys and I were ok..sad part is nobody let us know until today that he had passed on some time ago..I found it strange he hadn't called at Christmas or my birthday, must thought he might be busy..Drats wasn't good news

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Betty, stay away from peanuts and or peanut butter, some ice creams too.
We fly out tomorrow at 5pm, have a docs appt at 10am, then have to kill time til we go to. Billy Bishop airport ..

Went to St Lawrence Market today .. Quite the place .. Bought some buns and meat and cheese for supper tonight .. Quite sick of going out ..
Can't believe I'm saying that . 😳

Lorna's folks are ok. Will be coming to TBay near the end of April .. I worry about her Dad making that trip, but no way will he have it any other way, although, Lorna's brother is re marrying in Oct and we might drive down, I believe in Orangeville. Nothing firm yet.

Anyway thinking about you all

Off to make a Sammie.

M

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - how distressing to find out after so long that a dear friend had passed on. Maybe the family didn't know how close you were.

Marilynne - How nice that Lorna's folks will be by for a visit. They fly, right? I'm sure he'll be fine, and if you can make it for Lorna's brother's wedding in Oct, that will be very nice for everyone. A family reunion for some, too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

St Lawrence market is great to spend time wandering, good eats
Would be nice if you could make Lorna's brother's wedding, once you are in the car and chatting the trip goes quickly..

Is Toronto having the rain warnings we are, Lordy we've had a lot of rain..please please no flood tonight..worry about that

Susan, my Roger and Harvey worked together before boys were born..he and his wife were up at the house on the lake every weekend..we were all closer than close..he ended up falling for a witch, pardon the expression, left his wife, moved in with her and got married about the time Roger died.

He was a rock for me and the boys, he was their uncle Harvey..his new wife took it into her mind if my husband passed on then likely I'd want hers..Harvey always kept in touch as the boys grew and had family of their own without her knowing..he said the few times he mentioned how we all were doing it was world war 3 so he continued to call..when there was a family function I'd let him know and he would come (minus wife) as the years went by he and she had a terrible marriage, thus he came up fewer times so she wouldn't get upset and threaten to do herself in.,grrrr

As you all know, time flies..I thought it was awhile since he had called, boys/family always asked if I'd heard from him, I'd sappy 'you know Harvey!" So time went buy and this Christmas I thought just how strange it was that no call at Christmas, no call for my birthday ..unheard of so last night I facebooked his SIL via and she gave me the info

We are all devastated..sure wish we could have given our final respects to him as a family

Oh Betty - how horrible for you! So glad that you have his SIL's FB info so you could find out. It's awful how some people think "she's wanting my husband". I do know that kind of mentality, having run into it myself. Used to go to the Legion dances when I was with my ex, and the ladies were Sure I was after their husbands when they'd ask me to dance (they didn't like to dance, so......... oh well!). I know that there are more women than men after a certain age, but Really - not every woman is after every man...... my goodness.
Well, now you know he's with The Lord, and you won't have to deal with "her" anymore, even by proxy!!
*Hugs* Betty - condolences on losing a very good friend, and SO sorry that you & the boys weren't able to pay your final respects.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

hooray - just heard from CLS (the lab) and my INR (Warfarim amount in my system) has come back up, so they've scheduled my last injection for tomorrow, then they'll take my blood draw for Monday to confirm that it's still up and if it is, will only have to periodically get blood drawn to confirm and no needles in the foreseeable future!!

I am here. It has taken me two days to get logged on to DG. Terry finally had to help me.

I had an appointment with my surgeon this afternoon. All is going well. I had 8 screws and 2 rods installed to fuse my back. He said my bones are wonderful. I go back in 6 weeks and have a film 2 days prior to my appointment.

My village around me has been amazing. My daughter is a younger version of me. An expert at multi tasking. It is amazing to watch.

Heather is coming in tomorrow and Todd is coming on Wednesday night. My sister Bobbie Jo is leaving Tuesday. Doctor said I could switch to a cane when I felt I could do so. He said the patient is usually the best one to chose when. Vern's son Brian has been here helping with Vern and keeping the house in order.

My garden helpers will be here tomorrow and I am going to spend some time in the front landscape sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee. My coleus order should be here next week.

Dogs have been confused but they are getting better. Cats love my
sister. When I came home from the hospital, all four animals were running around crazy.

We were in the low 70s today and heading upward. Had a really windy day Tuesday but nothing close to what you guys have been putting up with.

Glad to be back. My tomatoes are planted. And lettuce seed sown. Both done by gardening friends.

Surgeon said I have great bones. Great news for an older woman to hear.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hooray, Sharon!
So glad to hear from you!Having Great bones is wonderful to hear!
Wow, that's a lot of screws and rods in your back, but glad you're doing well and getting around with a cane only - you're healing quickly!
How wonderful that you're family & garden helpers are helping you so much. You are obviously very loved. And now - garden's planted. One less thing to stop you from recovering properly.
I'm so happy for you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you are on the mend Sharon. it makes it easy when you have all the help you have!

NE, SD(Zone 4b)

Betty, sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you are able to get to Florida. Thrilled to hear South Dakota is the selected choice for adventure. You will enjoy it.

Sounds as though everyone is doing better and on the mend. Take care. Planting season is soon here.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Heading west is a great idea, it was one of our favorite vacations. I'd love to do it again.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Sharon - pls remind me - what was wrong with your back that you had to have it fused? My cousin's daughter has to have back surgery tomorrow - move a nerve and shave off spurs. The nerve is pinching and causing her extreme pain.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

She fell several times and messed up her back. Tell your cousins daughter to listen to the Dr.'s and don't over do it after surgery.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I know she will. My cousin's returning home from her "winter snowbird" stay in Phoenix, and is stopping in to see her daughter in time for her day surgery and will stay there for a few days after she's out. I told her about your surgery and how you're only using a cane. Her surgery is in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. (don't you just love Canadian city and province names?).

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

7 hours on the road today, just got in half hour ago. Will have to go back and catch up. Had a great time in Ohio. Tomorrow I need to get up early, 3 hours to the dog show site in Wis.

Have a great weekend!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

So glad you are home Sharon, and with an army :-)

We landed a couple of hours ago .. feels good to be home .. Gord is doing well (as well as can be expected) ..
HAPPY dogs, and HAPPY people :-)
Lorna did incredibly well .. but, was happy to see us ..

Exhausted . offto bed

~M~

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Glad you're both home, safe & sound, Deb & Marilynne
Hope you're getting a good night's rest

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning ..

Jeeze Deb ... lots of driving .. best of luck, and, drive with care.

I guess Betty is south ? Pretty sure she was leaving April 1 .. there was a huge radar map at the airport .. showed some rainy/active weather in Florida. We were delayed 2 hours due to bad weather as well ..

Sharon .. so happy you are doing well ... all good having great bones :-)
How is Vern doing, and, of course, the furries .. ours were sure glad to see us ..

LK .. walking UP stairs is still a bit owie for me .. I don't do it enough is why .. going down the stairs is ok .. best of luck with your physio ..

Barb, how are you doing ? Any apt prospects ?

I had bad news while I was away .. a colleague passed away .. Karen was only 50 .. I have no idea what happened, jut know that the nursing world has lost a wonderful caring and compassionate nurse, who had a rip roarin sense of humour and made a night shift fun to work through .. she leaves behind a hubby (John) beautiful daughter Sarah, and son Kyle ..

Susan .. I take it you're doing OK .. Lorna has her INR (blood clotting) checked about every 3 weeks, a finger poke .. says the finger poke is worse than an actual blood draw ..

Waving hello to everyone .. time to get back in 'home mode' ..

TTFN

~M~

Dianne .. are you getting snow too ??

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

We have found the apartment we need back in Hillsborough. We meet with the landlord one day this week and move by the end of the month. We will be busy!!!!!
Packing slowly as my breathing allows.

As if I don't have enough going on with hunting for a new place and now packing since we got one, I had an "episode" last Monday morning. I took my shower and got dressed to go to an afternoon routine appointment with my cardiologist. With all the activity, my 02 level dropped to 74 and my heart raced at 151!!!! I told her about it that afternoon and after doing an EKG in the office, she ordered labs to be done on my way out and was going to call radiology as she wanted a new CAT scan done as my last one was four years ago. Well, first thing Tues morn I got a call that they wanted me in radiology ASAP. That sure scared me!!! Norm was in Vermont so my neighbor upstairs took me. I guess because of something in the lab results, they were looking for a pulmonary embolism. Thank God, there is not one.
Anyway I had an echocardiogram yesterday afternoon and have new appointments with my heart doctor and with my pulmonologist next week. Something is going on and I'm just hoping it is not serious and can be handled easily as I have so much to do now!!!! Always the way eh???

Morning everyone.

Glad to hear everyone is back home safe and sound.

Barb, sending prayers for good test results.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Marilynne - Sorry to hear about your colleague. So very young.
I do believe that Betty's off on her trip

Barb - praying all is well, and it's just a "blip" in the road of your health.

I'm doing pretty good - no more injections at the moment, as my INR has gotten up enough so they're not warranted. They've lessened my Warfarin, too.
They come by to take a blood draw on Monday, just to confirm.
In the meantime, I'm waiting for the results of the scan on my kidneys re: abdominal scan for the high CRP and GGT. I should hear Mon or Tues - they said 2 to 3 business days for my Dr to get the results. I'm sure he'll call me in to discuss the results. He's really great that way. I don't have a gallbladder or uterus for it to be either of them, so that's only 1/3 to worry about lol As I said before (and you told me, Marilynne, that my knees could affect this) my CRP is over 300 instead of the normal 35, so there's something for him to be concerned about - I'm just not going to borrow trouble until I get smacked up the head with bad news!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Barb .. scary episode for you .. do so hope the tests go well and, in your favour ..
Likely you'll be given prednisone .. the love/hate drug .. Lorna's Dad can't have it anymore as he starts to rely on it too much .. lets face it ... it helps breathing ..

Had a Chinese food dinner .. Lorna's favourite, it was kind of our treat for her caring for the dogs and the house .. only thing is, and, it's 'odd' for this restaurant .. to me, It was a bit greasy .. I had a chicken ball and haven't felt right since .. had Betty have eaten it, she would have been scoped within hours !!!

Going to watch some kinda movie, it's a surprise :-)

Bob & I "went out for dinner" tonight - to McDonalds. I had their chicken burger, fries and a Barq's (closest thing to rootbeer as I can get - I don't like Coke products - I'm a Pepsi gal)
I couldn't finish the chicken burger, ate half the fries and all the drink.
My appetite's not what it used to be, having spent almost 2 weeks in the 3, hardly eating. The first week I was too weak before I went into hospital, and the week I was in hospital was half of it the same. When I was home, I still was eating birdlike meals. Bob hasn't gotten into the schedule I was on, in the hospital LOL
I'm trying to eat at 9am, Noon, and 5, but we weren't on that schedule before. I was too tired to make dinner before I went into the hospital so it sometimes wasn't until almost 8:30 to 9pm before we ate out of sheer desperation for something. I guess Bob was thinking I wasn't ready to eat until later, so he wasn't worried. btw - he doesn't need to lose weight, but he wasn't going to rush me, either........ oh well, I need to lose weight lol

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty is on the beach in FL. We will be on the beach in NC later today. Had a nice Anniversary day yesterday with sis & hubby & DGD & hubby. Putzed around in stores and ended up at a fav. place for dinner.
Was cold & windy here but not as bad as home. There was yet more snow and downstate is ice covered. Sure hope it warms up a bit more here. I do love beach walking. We will be at Rodanthe in the Outer Banks.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Love the outer banks of NC. Haven't been there for probably 20 years, though.
Very scary episode, Barb. Praying all will be back to normal for you quickly, you have so much to do with the upcoming move.

Klaus did well at the show yesterday. Got his first championship point. Long ways to go, but at least he's started! Now to get caught up on things around here. Mounds of laundry, need a few groceries, well, best get started!

going to be lovely out today - predicted to be 57F
Off to church now :-) Haven't been since the beginning of March, and missing it terribly.
Did go to chapel on March 13th, when our minister had the service at the hospital.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Lovely pic Betty .. was speaking with a friend just north of Miami .. a beach near there has been covered in Jellyfish .. Vellela I believe she called them .. they have a SAIL on them, and the winds catch the sail, and they get blown onto the beaches .. she says it's stinky ..
Hope you have a good time at Joannes :-)

Deb, good for Klaus ..!! I can imagine you have a lot to catch up on ..
Hate that part of coming home ..

How are you feeling today Barb ?
LK .. still doing the stairs ? I remember they wouldn't let me out of the hosp til I had gone up and down the set of stairs .. to this day I have NO idea how I did it . I guess 'the carrot' of 'going home' got me through ..

Karen, enjoy the beach .. the UP is snowy and, we are SNOWIER!!!!!!!
I shoveled !! Not much ... but .. I had to bring wood in in the wheelbarrow and figured if I have to go out after and do it again, I may as well ..
Gord can't bend or lift for a week or so .. ergo .. I get to do the wood haul (under his diligent tutelage) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr .. he is fussy about what wood comes in ..
Haven't had the woodstove on for a month ..

Best get supper in the oven .. chicken breast in mushroom sauce with LEFTOVER Chinese food .. LoL

HUGS

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just having a rest then off to the San Carlos Beach for dinner/sunset
Tired this afternoon, would love to stay in and just enjoy being lazy but I can do that at home

"m" they did have red tide here a few weeks ago but no critters such as you described thankfully..

Had snow,at home as well, not missing it

Enjoy your trip Betty.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

"red tide"? What's that?
Hope you're having a great time, Betty :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Up n kinda at'em ... first apt with the eye doc here to check up on Gordon .. I think it'll be twice a week for about 5-6 weeks ..all seems to be going well though ..

'RED TIDE' is an ocean phenomenon. The ocean brings in algae .. here's a link ..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_tide
I remember it happening when my parents lived there and we were down visiting .. I think that's why there's lotsa swimming pools in FL .. :-)

CHIGGERS .. I have a sore throat :-( I am so dang careful about 'things' because I am immune suppressed.. I think I can blame this on flying on a plane and breathing in bugs ..

Have a great day

~M~

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm feeling pretty good "M". I am amazed at how much I can do while sitting in a chair with wheels!!! Norm makes me up a bunch of boxes and I sit and fill them!!! Most of my sewing room is all packed. That is the only room where I insist on doing it myself. That way if anything happens to anything, it is on me. This week I will finish up in there and move on to the kitchen and all the things we will not need for a while.
I have appointments with both the cardiologist and the pulmonologist this week so hopefully they will be able to tell me what is going on! I'm hoping the episode was just a blip and that as long as I go slowly, I will be fine. But we shall see.

Sounds like Betty and Karen are having a fine time. I sure hope you take the time to rest Betty. You don't need to be on the go 24/7..... I'm hoping Darlene will insist on rest.

Sending love and prayers to all.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

It's pretty restful here. I can be content just watching the wave roll in. This place is nice, has way too many stairs but don't do them often and take it slow. I should have brought my flip-flops for beach walking, sand, sand sand.
Guys are out on a charter fishing, It's just them so hoping they have a great 3 generation day.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

NOT a good appointment ..
In fact surprisingly disappointing !
Feel so bad for Gordon ..

We are off to Ambulatory Day Care for a ‘procedure’ this afternoon at 2:30 .. a stitch has to be removed from his FIRST surgery ..the right eye (January) .. we are both shocked .. as well .. the vision with his left eye is not very clear .. but, we sort of anticipated that ..
Have to see him back in Ambulatory Day Care tomorrow morning, then, back in his office Wednesday morning ..

T & Ps appreciated

~M~

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thought and prayers are on their way "M" for both of you. I'm sorry he is having a bit of grief but I'm sure it will all turn out well. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer....
