Off to get a coffee ..
AND, turn up the dial :-)
~M~
Best, worse, what did I learn today?chat with friends old & new
It's funny Dianne, I didn't realize until I was older that everyone didn't have a big family that enjoyed being together. Cousins were more like siblings and fortunately we just stayed that way. My grands grew up all coming over together to spend the night together. Our cottage...now our home... has one large room upstairs where all the kids slept, when they come now they still all sleep up there, adding their kids to the mix.
What DO you call a bunch of turkeys???. There were 31 this morning. One of the males was quite amorous (sp) and was disappointed no one was interested.
Otters have been twice in the last 2 weeks. They should be here more now there is no ice on the lake.
Saw a fox yesterday. He was quite content to go his way and we the other way. When we first bought the farm there was a fox that came out over the Texas bridge at 7 am and back in at 7 pm. Also the next year there were 5 kits and one was black.. Gorgeous sight.
Glad you are feeling a bit better M. DO not send that cold onto me. Please!!
D
Turkeys - they are only called a rafter of turkeys if they are domesticated turkeys. A group of wild turkeys are called a flock.
I found a great recipe for a cough/congestion/cold - carrot syrup, and so easy to make.
http://dailyhealthpost.com/homemade-cough-syrup-removes-phlegm/
Sounds healthy, and next time I have a cold, I'll try it.
Morning everyone.
Dianne, nice to see you posting, sorry to hear you still fight that vertigo.
"M", sure hope you are feeling better.
Mornin :-)
Feel better .. was only up once hacking last night .. blaming it on the furnace, have had the woodstove going for over 2 weeks and didn't put wood in last night, furnace came on and I don't like that kind of heat .. dry .. even though we run a humidifier.
Love hearing from Dianne ... kinda worry about her and the dogs ..
Going to go grocery shopping today ..fingers crossed I can hang on .. I need to pick up dog food at a pet store, and, I want to go and get a new pillow ..
Lorna did NOT get her new leg :-(
Still putzing with it .. sees him again next week ..
Hope everyone has a great day
~M~
Man it is cold out there !! I started out with just a sweater came back in quickly to get a coat.
My rhubarb is up... wooo hooo. I'll freeze more this year. I got a rhubarb cake recipe from Kooger and it was delicious. It froze well too.
I too need to get some groceries and dog kibble plus the Tartar Buster bones for the boys. I just don't want to drive into Ktown.
Enjoy your day ladies.
Dianne
Morning, well almost
Sun is shining in my neighbourhood, actually went outside and worked on taking the wintering cover from back deck..bit sad about it as now I can see neighbours yard..those of you who have visited here know how I take pride in my yard...gardens/ponds etc...well, to have to see my neighbours yard its darn right sickening, a, sure you will agree as I will post photo's..I have never called the municipality on anyone but did so today, not sure it will do any good but it is worth the try! Cannot believe how people have no pride, their home is gorgeous but the front deck is full of pizza boxes, bottles, garbage bags etc..
Glad you are on the mend "M". Sorry to hear Lorna is still having problems re new leg..may is soon approaching, doesn't she start work soon? Did her mom/dad decide to make 1 more trip to see you?
Dianne, must feel good getting out and enjoying the town without worry of snow/ice. Lordy you sure have wildlife at your house, good weather calling them out. Do the otters not do mega damage to your docks?
Debbie, hugs my friend, sorry you've got so many health issues with no answers as to what is causing them.. I as well have a tree that I bought the first year I moved here, doing well, sure would hate to lose it so can understand your distress.
Deb, how's the sick furry?? Sharon is in Georgia at a dog show..you all travel many a mile with your furies.
Laurel, your hubby is amazing.. The docs should put him in the journals.
Lindakay, how long will you be away..bet you are looking forward to it.
Susan, I'm with you, packing is no fun..you certainly had a lot of practice this past year. Now that Dianne says she loves packing we will have to give her a call..tricks of the trade she must know..I've started some purging and that is bad enough, a move would freak me out.
Karen, I can just see everyone gathering at the lakeside with the family..the years I lived on the lake were precious times.
Lunch is over, best I get outside and finish the back deck, tomorrow it's front deck and Friday deck off back bedroom..if I sit here much longer I know it will be nap time..rather not!
What a mess your neighbors have. Hopefully once the trees leaf out you won't have to look at that!
Pups are doing better, still coughing, but better. Got a call from the vet regarding test results. They don't have the dog flu, or kennel cough. Since they're responding to the antibiotics they're not going to do any other testing. No one else at home has gotten this from them (at least not yet, knock on wood!). Perry, GA shows are big ones! I have some friends that are showing there. How is Sharon's dog doing that won at Westminster, it sounded like he was having health issues.
oh geeze - Lorna doesn't have her new leg yet? How truly disappointing.....
Betty - after so many moves (50?), I know the "tricks of the trade" but still - HATE packing and moving. Did find a new type of tape that's better than the old packing tape - it looks like craft paper, and doesn't tangle or twist. It's nice and wide, too. It's wonderful stuff! I'll have to find our roll of it, and see where we can get more. It's not available at the storage company where they sell packing supplies. It was given to us.
OMG Betty. That is where we had our bar-b-que!!!! It was so nice then. There is no need for that mess. Is there not a dump or landfill where things like that are to be taken? I pray the trees and shrubs will fill out nicely and you won't have to deal with that for any length of time....
Prayers for Lorna that things work out quickly regarding her leg.
Hope you are better and over that cough soon "M".
Busy packing and planning here. Today was get in touch with all the bill people and give them our change of address. Now I am on to the personal ones....We are moving on Sat. so I guess I can change the one here now... Off to do so....
Betty, that is not nice of them to have such a mess, not to mention, it can be a home for all kinds of bad critters. I hope they have to clean it up.
Good luck moving Barb, wish I was closer to help!
Great news Deb re kennel cough, now that they are on the mend life will get easier for you..vet is treating Inuk and hoping to not what she thinks it is...think Sharon is frightened so not asking too many questions. She was looking forward to the Georgia show, maws able to get a sitter for the puppies and next birthing around the 26th so I'm sure it will be a quick trip, no lalligaling.
Mega work Barb notifying everyone, sure hasn't taken you long to find a place and get moved..yes, right where we had the b.b.q. The bi-law enforcer sent me an email after I forwarded photo's and said she would be looking into it. I will wait 2 weeks then call again.yes, vines and leaves help somewhat..Saturday I'll go to fabricland and buy decorative fabric to make curtain so that it's not visible when sitting out, should do same for the deck.
Susan, think I know of the tape, see it used for packaging here.
Worked more on back deck, bought a new rug to make things pretty, took the large linoleum I had painted for it, cut it down somewhat and put it on the front deck, only thing left for front deck is get the water feature going, perhaps this weekend.
Early eats, cooked enough yesterday for several meals..try to eat early so everything is digested before I head to bed. Had put on several pounds while away, already lost it plus 2 more..think I'll soon look like 'miss twiggy' anybody remember her?
OYE .. what a mess Betty .. not unseen in our area either .. like Barb says, why not toss it in the landfill ..that's what it's there for .
Is this the house where the twins girls live? I'd be scared silly they'd get jabbed with a nail, or, bit by a critter ..
The leg is sort of a delicate balance of how high, or low in spots .. lady parts don't like to be crushed .. and, that was one of the probs, that was fixed, but, that led to an issue with the back rise at 'zee butt' .. hopefully on the 20th it will be done ..
Well .. we TOLD Lorna's parents that we were going to drive down east to see THEM .. due to their health issues we felt it was best .. NO WAY !!!!!!!! Her father will not listen to reason, and her Mom just LOVES coming up this way for a visit ..
SO .. so be it ........ not sure when this will happen, but, doubtless it'll be when Lorna is BACK AT WORK .. makes it kind of difficult .. but, we will suck it up ..
Deb, good to hear Klaus is getting better ..
Dianne .. came out of the pet store $120. poorer .. I should SELL my doggie treats ..
Best get a move on
~M~
Betty - just took a look at those pictures of your neighbour's yard - YUCK!!!
It would be work intensive, but maybe use some webbing to put through your chain link fence? AND call the municipality as well. Who knows what's harbouring in that mess? Pizza boxes and other food-related garbage is bound to get something scrounging around in it (raccoons, squirrels, mice, etc)
OH Betty that yard is such a disgrace . I hate to imagine what the inside of the hose looks like. I am racking my brain (I know slim pickems) of what you could that would grow quickly. Keep on the BY Law office and ask for a copy of their report.
M I would love to come out of Pet Smart with that amount. Steve and I go in and they greet us like we were family. But I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. Plus I buy Eukanuba kibble for the boys. I drop a lot of money there each month. I am thinking about getting a wading pool for up near the house. There is no way the boys can get in the lake without slicing their paws.I'll be damned I can't remember the name of the nasty shells that are everywhere. Zebra Mussels,,, I new if I went on to something else the name would pop up into my brain.
A local girl makes some really great dog biscuits - especially the squash one.
My rhubarb has popped up. Woo hoo. I think I will freeze more this year. I also made a Rhubarb Cake with a recipe I got from Kooger that is delicious plus it freezes well.
Need to find something to have for dinner. Right now cereal sounds good.
Dianne and her TH
We have that problem with our tenants across the street. Now they have two non running vehicles. One has been there for a long time. One more month and we call the township to cite them. Asking them to get rid of the junk cars doesn't do it. I had one tenant several years ago was so bad I called CPS. Reported my house as unfit for the children. The children were removed, she then had to move because she lost her rent subsidy.
Wow, keeping up with you guys getting on here once a week is impossible.
Betty, that mess next door to you would drive me crazy. Shame on them.
Barb, I am so happy all of your doctor's worries were just that and you came out looking good. Now, when the move is done, you will feel like a new woman.
Susan, are you sure you are moving back to your home in June. Is there anything else this guy can pull to stay in your property.
Marilyn, so glad your cold is disappearing and you are feeling better. I think Lorna's parents think coming to your property is a true vacation. You must make them feel right at home. God Bless You.
Karen, I cannot believe you have that many relatives. But you welcome thrm and that is a true blessing.
You guys should start warming up. We have been in the 80s and we have a storm coming in from the North that is bring in high winds. Our roses and irises have been blooming for over 2 weeks and no wind. The wind tomorrow will spread those rose petals all over but we have been blessed with two full weeks. Usually the blooms and the wind show up at the same time.
I am still losing weight but it is portion control. My daughter Tracy is cooking dinner for us every evening. Just throws a few more helpings into what she is already cooking. Then she brings over our dinner and dishes it up. She lives about 5 minutes away. First time she dished up my dinner, I was wondering what happened to my dinner. But by the time I had cleaned my plate, I was full. She is such a good daughter and taking such good care of me, Vern and the animals, she will need a vacation when this is all done with.
I am still in the back brace and probably will be for at least another month. I am using a walker with wheels and navigated the back landscape today, just to enjoy everything before the wind hits tomorrow. I am being very careful about where I go and make sure I will not fall.
Linda, did you get any of that hail, that hit Texas. How is your recovery doing.
Vern's granddaughter is here until tomorrow then we will be alone except for the help of my daughter.
Diane, I am with you and the housekeeper. Mine was here today and the house looks so good. I cannot bend over, so a lot doesn't get picked up. How has your sleeping been going?
I will try to check in over shorter periods of time so I can keep track of you guys.
Hugs to you all. Sharon
Hugs right back Sharon, wonderful to see you posting, even better to know you have someone as awesome as your daughter, Tracy caring for you ..
I sure do hope the winds don't ruin much .. I hear the wind chimes outside, so, even though it's 33F right now, the wind will knock that down a tad ..
Nice to hear you're up n about ..
Betty, I have a perennial called .. Fleece Plant (Goat's Beard) .. you talk about hearty and tall and bushy and plain nice to look at .. it grows to a height of about 5' .. drought resistant .. only thing is, it's not fragrant, but then, how often would ya wanna stick your nose in it .. LoL
Dianne ... I can only imagine the sharpness of the Zebra Mussel shells .. OUCH on tender paw pads ..
We have a kiddie pool for the pack .. they go in if we throw a ball into it .. not able to swim though .. might look at something a bit larger this summer ..
Fingers crossed we can get haircuts today .. not til after 11am though
Hoping to make chicken ceasar salad for supper, we still eat at 2pm .. will have to do most of the prep prior to leaving ..
Hope you all have a super day ..
~M~
Saying a quick good morning. I'll be shutting down the computer today so won't be back until Sunday I'm thinking. You all be good and I'll see you from the new place.....
As always - sending my prayers and happy thoughts to you all......
I got a wading pool for my pups last year. Klaus splashed around in it and kept everyone else out. My mom's German Shepherd would go out and lay in hers on hot summer days!
Morning all,
Sunshine day, close to 50 they say, I will take it..been out picking tree limbs, was thinking of getting a fire going in the pit, we will see, I tend to get ambitious ideas for the day then dwindle off about noon..
"M" guess Lorna's parents feel when they can no longer travel that is about the end of being independent and home bound.when are they planning on coming? Love my fleece plants..each spring I divide them and place them in areas want to hide..hmmm how many fleece plants would it take to cover 4-5 hundred feet? I have several that get 8'..no fragrance but then the shrubs/trees of similar size that have fragrance last for such a little time..you just reminded me of making a hair appointment..am at that stage as well, can't do anything with it.
Great ideas girls re pools for the furries
Sharon, great reading your posts and knowing you have such a great support system. By the time you get the ok from the doctors it will be garden time, oh how you will enjoy that.
Barb, don't overdo in the move, anxious to hear how you like your new digs. Meant to say yesterday that Pat whom you met (English lady) was here Tuesday morning to sew, hubby called and said the doctor's office just called, she was to get to emerge immediately, her hemoglobin was 40, they hospitalized her, giving her blood, it was up to 70 last night, specialist will come today.. Poor dear, she has plans to go to Greece for her grandaughters wedding, she is so worried she will not be able to go.
Darlene got home Tuesday night, her car is here so I will likely see her today.
Greg dropped in last night, said his neighbours nephew was stabbed to death in midland yesterday behind Mr. subs...even small towns have increase in violence.
Well, expecting ann for coffee so best I get a move on
I expect your friends hemoglobin was 4.0 a very dangerous low...mine got down to 5. Normal is 12 -16. Right now I'm running around 10.7 and feel pretty good. Hoping her solution is as easy as mine was.
Thanks for the update Sharon, sounds like your doing really well.
I am still going to therapy, trying to get the lost muscles strengthened. It is getting there, just slowly.
Alright I thought I just posted a long chatty post and poof it is gone.
So glad to see you Sharon. Those sleep angels come some nights and just stick out their tongue at me but when they do spread their special potion I can get sometimes as much as 5 hours...not straight through but when I do get up I can fall right back asleep.
The rake is calling me so I better get outside.
Dianne and her TH
Sharon - the ONLY way our tenants could stay is to sign another lease. We gave them notice that the lease will not be renewed. If they Truly want to stay, they will have to sign a new lease and we'll charge them $2k a month. They currently pay $900 (same as we do here, plus we pay for the pad lot and a storage unit).
I truly think that she's feeling guilty for making us so stressed, because she knows that I had my first attack on the night that she emailed saying they didn't have March rent. On March 15th they paid that month, and March 16th they paid April....
I went for my OT & PT assessment today, but they didn't want me to do any exercise assessment until I speak to my knee surgeon on Monday. She just took all the data on my recent health issues, and ongoing past issues.
I was going to use the pool, but they closed shortly after my assessment (1:25pm) and don't open again until 7pm tonight. I was looking forward to a pool with 94F temp. Sounds heavenly for my poor knees!!
I truly think my knee pain is shooting up to my hip. I've been suffering spasms the past 2 weeks. Not every day, but enough to make me sit up and take notice when it happens.
Going to a new-to-me Quilt shop that's only 15 min away - just found out about it from a friend. It's outside of Calgary, but as we're the last street in Calgary, it's not far :-) I've been told it's a very nice, smaller, shop and I like that. Nicer "feel" than the big box stores where there are so many departments that no one knows what's in the other departments or the craft that goes with it (Like Michael's and Fabricland - Michael's is better than Fabricland, but someone who knows scrapbooking doesn't know knitting, etc.)
Betty, we have been gardening here since mid March. Today we were 80 degrees. Wind waited a day to move in. Tomorrow we are suppose to have a high of 70 and then be in the 90sby next Tuesday.
Barb, we will miss you and have a great, safe move.
Betty, good luck with your loser neighbor. Have you seen or communicated with them since they moved into your neighborhood? Maybe host a neighborhood clean up party because spring is on the way. Get the city to donate a big dumpster to put everything in their back yard in the dumpster.
Susan, so glad that is the facts on the tenants. What a nightmare and we will all be very happy for you to have them gone out of your life.
I am with you guys about big stores. We have Micheal's. It is so over stocked and so little moving air, I can be in one of their stores about 15 minutes before I am storming toward the front door. I have never had knee pain and hope not to but I am sending you all prayers that do have his problem.
I will return tomorrow. Karen and all, have a great day. Hugs, Sharon and thanks for the return hugs.
Good morning !!
A BALMY 38F here, and a promise to go to almost 60F today ..
Yesterday we sat/ worked outside for about 3 hours, even got the start of a TAN !!
Got haircuts .. I am less than impressed, but then that's my usual LoL
OMG .. typing away, heard a noise, here it's RAINING !!
Looked at the radar, it'll just pass by ..
Susan .. I surely do hope that couple cannot and will not do something under handed to thwart their move .. just shake my head as I am suspect that any place they may look to rent now, will be asking for a reference from the former landlord, you and Bob .. and, then you'll be caught ..
Damned if you do, damned if you don't typa deal ..
Fingers crossed ..
Dianne .. I hope the Turkeys are at least quiet .. did they come back ?
You now have me thinking about a bigger pool for the pups .. thing is, they all have 'short legs' LoL
Sharon .. enjoy the warm temps .. bet the garden looks great ..
Best get a cuppa
HUGS
~M~
PS .. Be safe Barb .. and hope the move goes well :-)
Morning,
Omg Susan, don't even give them the option of paying $2,000, shaking my head big time..tell yourself that is NOT an option!!!
I rarely go to Michael's anymore..fabricland, well they have sales for canvas type fabrics, going to drop in today to see if I can pick some up to make a backdrop for my gazebo, hide some of that yucky
Suppose to be 54 today, sun is shinning, having coffee and looking forward to playing outside, may even do a Dianne and start some raking.who knows,
may even take a run to Barrie, fabric shop had a Wednesday special on pink fat quarter package so I bought 2, ready for pick up.
Sharon, great idea, I'd do that in a sec except almost every house on this street have clean yards, hardly a branch on the ground..but, might be an idea having township bring a bin, could always add it to their taxes.keep forgetting how soon you have pretties in your garden, wish it was the same here..I'll be lucky if I see growth by the end of May.
"m" I didn't get to get my hair cut yesterday, Darlene dropped in for a visit..am thinking of going to one of those walk in's and take a chance..one thing about hair, it grows back in.
Barb, know you are hard at it, do take mini breaks..can't wait to hear how you are enjoying your new digs..are you in a subdivision, close to people?
"m", Susan and Dianne, did you see the supreme courts of canada yesterday passed that Metis and non status Indians not living on reserves now have full rights as Indians living on the Reserves.. Sure wish they helped the northern communities first, disgraceful how they are treated.
About to go to Addie's quilt & fabric store - looking forward to going to a new shop that I've heard good things about :-)
Afternoon everyone. Still going to therapy, trying to wake up those muscles. They are on my but because I still walk with a limp. After they examined me today, they realized my knee slips and turns inward with every step. Yep, the same knee I had replaced 10 years ago. So I have to wear a brace and see if that will help.
Betty, this thread has almost 400 posts, can you create a new one please?
