Best, worse, what did I learn today?chat with friends old & new

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Checking in and catching up. Well, trying to at least. Hoping everyone is getting over and better whatever ails, especially with spring right around the corner. Wishing you all health. Recalling my youth when elders said the most important thing you can own is good health. Yeah, yeah. Blah, blah. And now saying, "You were so right!" to headstones.

SO goes to surgery next Wednesday, had his pre-op appointment today and is still scheduled for a RR discharge after five hours (barring complications). His PT will walk and assess him in the RR and be at the house the next day. We have a staired entrance to the house and a staircase to the bedroom but he had no problem last time and that hip needed rebuilding and screws. Hoping all is smooth again. He's fretting the TED hose since the season is warmer than last time. But funny...like childbirth, he's certainly remembering it as more of a "walk in the park" than I. :)

We are going to the cottage (Maypop) to get the kitchen garden ready for planting. Kids will hopefully come up and help. I've been squeezing out last minute honey-dos for weeks including ceiling painting, fan cleaning and roof climbing to check on skylights. If you're like me the to-do list doubles with warmer weather and longer days. If he didn't need a hip before...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I am home now. Had a 3 hour nap, dinner, then made phone calls to my sister Ruth and also to friends.
My sister Ruth said she was so shocked about my health problems. Told me how I scared her and that I need to take care of myself.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Glad you are home Susan. And now listen to your sister!!! LOL

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Laurel .. I wish your SO all the best, and you.
Walking on the leg the first few times, at least for me,was excruciating, I had to sort of 'grow into it' ..
hope you get your cottage garden sorted :-)

Good your home Susan .. when does Georgia Susan go home?

HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY everyone :-)

BTW, we got over a foot of thick heavy snow, and, it is still falling !

That is a lot of snow. Don't over do it "M".

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Happy St. Patrick's Day
I have Susan here for 3 more days - Hooray!!
Feeling better today - Bob's only doing about 50% (and only when I ask him) cuz he's afraid to give me too much to eat (only ate 1/2 of dinner last night), and he's afraid to hurt me. He may not be the best nurse, but his heart's in the right place and if I need anything, I just have to ask.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Glad you're doing better, Susan. At least you have some time at home to visit with Susan.

That's a lot of snow, M! I do love the snow, but by this time of year, I'm over that! At least you know a snow this late in the year isn't going to last too long.

Deb

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

woke up to a blanket of snow here - Susan is thrilled - I'm trying to get a snowball fight started between them lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Nice to hear from you Susan. Sounds like you are doing much better?

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Sounds like folks are on the mend. Hopefully each day is better.

Thank you for the well wishes, Marilynne. This hip is not as bad as the last one and he will have the very best home nursing care. If he doesn't mind I'll strangle him with those TEDs. Nurse Ratched here. :>) P.S. That's a big
pile of white.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

It is good to hear the smile on your face Susan. Glad you have some time left with your friend...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My hip surgery was 3 weeks ago, and I am so amazed and how fast it has healed. Still going to therapy to get the muscles strengthened, but I can walk with out a cane, and there is no pain.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I am feeling more like smiling - lost a lot of my sense of humour when I got so scared in ICU. They pulled no punches about how close I was to dying.
Bob & Susan are out right now, getting her a good used laptop. Her WiFi button isn't working, and our electronics recycling depot sells good used ones for $150. Then they're going to the library to return some DVDs.
oh oh....... Bob went to the wrong ERD (they don't have any laptops, and he didn't check to see the address of the one I called. I'm SURE I told him 34th Ave, but he didn't hear me of course), and now that he's almost home he called to see if there's another one - yeah, back in the same area he already left....... so, he'll go back tomorrow. I asked Susan why he didn't call before - she doesn't know lol
it's entirely across the other side of the city - from NW to SE

Verona, ON

M you keep that snow there !!! I understand we will get it tomorrow. I just spent some time outside cleaning up winter debris.and dog po** I need to move some wood into the house. I haven't needed the heat. I love to have the house about 65*F.

Ditto what Barb said Susan.

LK I hope each day you feel. How are the pups around you now you have got rid of the walker? I was in a terrible accident in the 80's and was housebound for months. Just before I was in the accident we got a Sammi puppy. Tundra used to go to the door, pick up my cane and bring it back to me. He would keep banging it on the floor until I got up and walked him outside.

I lost what the date was....... wondered why there was Irish Stew on the sign for the restaurant I am lucky some weeks to know what day it is...... another good use for the remote for the TV.

Apartment looking this weekend Barb?

I had to put Diesel on a leash when I was outside. He wandered too far away from me . He was still on our property but the summer residents will soon to be back. He needs to as well as Duke and Chaos get their party manners back.I can't see another cottage from our place but they can hear people talking.

Susan, happy to hear you are doing so much better.

Same for you, Linda Kay! Isn't it a miracle? I don't know who is sleeping worse, him tossing around in pain all night or me being awakened from the tossing. Then there's the jumping out of bed like he's been launched from those shooting nerve pains. Poor honey. But do your exercises as instructed and don't stop. That's key to acheiving and maintaining good mobility.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I echo Laurel LK .. those exercises are very important
I, too, was amazed by the quick recovery .. best part was losing that groin pain ..

Dianne .. first wood stove fire in a week just on.. it's 37F .. but, get this, the dogs like the fire LoL
Our Lilly and Piper, and wee Smokey, were my constant companions post op .. very comforting .. Zoey wasn't with us yet.

Wonder how Betty is today?

Deb .. I am pretty much DONE with the snow too ... that storm was crazy bad ..

Made an Irish dinner, corned beef and cabbage and Irish mashed tatties .. was gonna make soda bread, but,not enough flour , and, no buttermilk :-(

Take care everyone

HUGS

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Our dogs are still careful when they see me walking around, but they love to get on the sofa and cuddle. Well, today was my first time driving, and it went really good. I drove into town to get Chinese food. Tomorrow I drive to out patient rehab to get registered for next week.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Marilynne - you didn't need buttermilk if you have milk & vinegar. Just a splash of vinegar will do it.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I'd do that with any other recipe Susan, but, never Irish Soda Bread LoL

The snow fell, and now, the temps have dropped .. 10F out there this morning ..

GOOD NEWS :-) DH said to me last evening .." guess what"? I said .."what"? .. and, he smiled and said .. that the vision from his operative eye (R) had been CLEAR almost all day !! What a relief .. I was getting kind of twitchy about being away with him for the next surgery and him having issues with BOTH eyes !
Thanks to all of you for your Ts&Ps ...

TGIF .. and, I think I am staying HOME !!!!!!!!!!!
I may even go back to bed :-) (ya right)

Do well LK !!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear his eye is doing better.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That is wonderful news "M". It took some time but worked out well. Gord must be very relieved.
Goofed off yesterday and knitted and read instead of sewing. It was a dreary day here and I just didn't get "in the groove". Today is another day.....

Back to apartment hunting over the weekend.

Verona, ON

Morning everyone !!!

Gloomy day here and we are expected to get some M's snow.

The TH is full of P&V this morning. Our walk revered them up instead of quieting them down.

glad to hear Gord's eye is doing better. I really like that kind of "guess what?!" from a DH :-)

"P&V" eh, Dianne? lol always liked that term

Barb - good luck on the apartment hunting.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Was up from 4am til 5:30am .. got shoved out of bed by Zoey and Piper, and, NO way was I moving them .. crazy huh !
Took some Tylenol before I went back to bed, and, I slept like a baby til 7:45am !
Unheard of for me ..

Laundry on, coffee in hand, and I am off to play Scrabble

Morning everyone.

Glad you got back to sleep "M". Those furbabies sure can be bed hogs!

Betty, I hope you are feeling better.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

good morning everyone
Hope everyone is doing what they want to, today - productive, restful, great weather, etc!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Susan. How are you doing?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Went and looked at apartments today. I was a bit angry as they only had models to show and didn't have any openings. I don't think they should advertise if there is nothing available. And I had heard Norm tell me NO STAIRS when he made the appointment but there they were!!!! Oh well, tomorrow is another day and we have an appointment to look at another in a private home. We shall see......

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Good evening - doing ok, thx.
Found out today that as I have Mobile Lab come to take my blood for warfarin levels, they will do ALL other lab work needed - ECG, all samples, and bloodwork requested by my Dr., including my epilepsy med levels.
I like Canadian medical care ......... :-)
I have Home Care starting this next week, to help me put on compression stockings. The ones they gave me at the hospital are difficult and look like they're for a skinny person!!!

Re Sharon in Las Vegas :

Sharon K. Winter

11 hrs ·

..
This is Tracy, Sharon's daughter. My mother had surgery on her back today and is recovering nicely. She is still very groggy but her color is excellent and she is eating ice cubes. They fused her back from T10 to L2 with a rod and screws. This was necessary because of a fall in her kitchen two weeks ago. She thinks that the fall in the park may have also have contributed to this injury. The doctor said she should heal and regain her strength and range of motion over the next 3 months. She will have to wear a brace for 3 months and do physical therapy. My hope is to take her home and let her recover completely under family care. She knows she is in your thoughts and prayers but isn't able to take phone calls and visitors at this time. I will keep you updated on Facebook. Thank you for caring about our mother.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you Tracy, ladies will feel better knowing she made it through surgery..

I am not sure where here I posted about being in the hospital, perhaps I didn't press send??

Got home yesterday, into bed, meds help somewhat

I was able to get up and have a bath, wash my hair but that is likely all that will get done today

I think from all who make their check ups on me that it's beautiful out there
Hope you have a sunshine day

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, glad to hear you are getting the treatment you need.

Thanks for the update on Sharon, sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

Betty, how long were you in the hospital? Did you have pneumonia? Glad to hear you are home, please take it easy, and call one of your kids if you need help! Sending prayers for you too!

Victoria Harbour, ON

it's an open door-check on Betty week, some I hear come in and look at me, some I don't ..nice knowing I'm not alone
They gave me potassium through IV for 24 hrs and added gravol drip then morphine drip in other arm for pain
Melanie just left, made me drink tea and have a yogurt cup
Trying to at least reply to all my emails
Thanks for your concern

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Nice to see you posting. Don't over do it.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Yikes .. we be a group of sick/recovering folks .. just be well aware that thoughts and prayers are with all of you, whether at home or in hospital.
Betty your electrolytes must have been right out of whack .. are your kidneys OK?

Anyway .. I just wanted to say hi .. lovely day, and on my way out to play with the dogs .. sun is SO bright on the snow .. sunglasses for sure

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Tracy - thank you for the update on your mother - really appreciate knowing how Sharon is.
Betty - omg, did not realize you were so sick. Glad to hear you're doing better and you're being looked after. Glad to see you posting.
To all else - you're in my thoughts & prayers, you gentle souls, you.........

Susan is wending her way back to GA as of this morning. Long trip, as she has a layover in Denver for 3 hours. Won't be home until late tonight, and back to work tomorrow.
Tomorrow is my lab visit day - bloodwork is done in the morning sometime, and another lab tech is coming for other one-time tests. Nice to know that Mobile Lab will come and do all my tests, including my ECG. This was I can get the rest I need, and not spend all my energy running from test to test, location to location.
I have a watch (read "timer") by my computer desk, whose alarm goes off every hour so I get up and move and not stay so sedentary.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Off to the eye doc here with Gordon .. a pre op apt .. at 8am .. have to leave here at 7:15am
Another video conference on Wednesday at the local hospital with the Anaesthetist in Toronto.
Busy week ..

Susan, I hope Susan got home .. she'll be one tired lady at work today .. what does she do ?

Hope everyone is well as can be expected

Sending my prayers along as well. We are in the middle of a snow storm and it is so quiet and pretty. It gives me a time for reflection and I'm usually praying for all of my dear friends here. Please take care and follow your doctors orders for each of you is so important to me and I do worry all the time about you. Spring is here - so they say - and I am looking forward to another wonderful year with you all......
