Kinda in a flurry here trying to get ready and packed ..
Weather down east is NOT good, but, the plane is on time ..
OH MY Dianne .. feel bad re the picture .. please be careful in the rain/sleet/snow/ice !
Sharon .. if I saw SPIDERS I'd be up on the bed with a broom .. LoL
I've done the 'slide down the stairs ' deal .. feels weird !
Thanks to you all for keeping us in your thoughts.
I will try to stay in touch
HUGS
~M~
Best worse, what did I learn today, winter chat continues.
Prayers go with you "M".....
Sending lots of prayers with you "M" and Gord.
Dianne, do you have the dogs back on their meds? Maybe get some crates to put them in when they are naughty. I know I would have a rolled newspaper in my hand at all times if they are acting up.
Betty, where did you go? Are you working on any crafts now?
Flight delay #1 .. an hour and 40 minutes ... guess the weather is super cruddy in Toronto ..
Well.. at least we're packed ..
Poor Gordon has a quarter of the suitcase, and, I have the rest LoL .. and, my curling iron and flat iron still have to go in ..
Costs $$ to check a bag now .. seems the airlines are pushing for CARRY ON only .. and, what you can bring on board in a carry on is so limited .. no liquids over about 3 oz .. so .. you PAY to put that in a bag that goes into the belly of the plane .. $30.
Now we sit and wait, and, worry .. happily there ate 2 other airlines that fly to Toronto from here in case we have to rebook .. SIGH!!!!!!!!!
~M~
Temp is -5 right now in Toronto. Roads are getting better. In fact the TV camera on the 401 across the top of the city shows traffic is moving just fine. Same more precp this morning but sunny this afternoon.
M I just heard on the news that 1 lane has reopened on the NIPEGON bridge. I can't even think about the backup in traffic.
LK I do have crates and Duke and Chaos have to go in them when I leave the house. I have a timeout spot for them and they were placed in it after the pizza episode.Only Duke is on meds and he is back on them. They are just so wound up from not being able to run free for so many days in a row.
D
"M", I hope you were able to take of and be on your way.
Dianne, I sure hope your weather clears up, so you can get them out for a walk. How is your back doing? I hope it is not too sore.
Oh Linda - that is just wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
NEWS FLASH --- Norm just came from his primary care doctor and she too him OFF ALL INJECTABLE INSULIN!!!! And he has lost over 20 pounds!!!! He still has to take the Metformin tablets but NO MORE NEEDLES!!!!!!
Needless to say, we are thrilled.....
Barb, that is awesome news! Congrats Norm, for sticking to your diet!
Barb that is awesome, I think I need the info on what he is doing.
Wooo hooo for Norm !
Hooray for Norm!!! Nice when your "routine" changes to "less to do" lol
No more paying for insulin, strips , needles and anything else the medical profession can think of to charge you. Diabetics are so screwed in this country.
Karen this is a program he started through a different doctor. However, there is a cookbook that generally follows what he is doing. It is "Clean Slate - A cookbook and Guide" and is from the editors of martha stewart living. Norm got it at Barnes and Noble. Another excellent one is "15 minute Diabetic Meals" by Nancy S, Hughes. this one was Sean's Christmas book for his Papa. These may help you....With your bleeding issues, it would be best to check with your doctor before you tried anything like this.
Yay Norm, he has a great coach!
We are in Toronto on the 24th floor of a gauge ours hotel, looks out onto Ryerson Dianne. Oops auto correct..
Got here around 3ish, now trying to decide where to go and eat, the hotel
Itself has a few restaurants
Gord is NPO after mid its and no breaking. I won't eat in front of him
Big day tomorrow glad the WiFi works🎶
Later
M
What excellent news for Norm! That is incredible!!
Glad you made it to Toronto safely, M.
The Thundering Herd and I spent about 2 hours outside this morning. I was futzing around with moving wood and taking care of ashes. They had a blast! I can see a big difference already. They are way too tired to get into mischief. I should have had them doing doggie push ups the days we couldn't get out to walk.
Hope M and Gord got off the ground by now. Here the wind has picked up again and the sun has disappeared. The weather for TO said there was a threat of snow squalls. Hopefully they have landed and are on their way to their hotel. It is windy in downtown TO at the best of times and they are landing right down by the lake.
Here Barb or at least in the early 2000's you didn't need an Rx for insulin, needles or scripts. That meant the cost of them came out of your own pocket with no insurance coverage. I know because I used to buy all that for my last 2 Sammies. I had a great doc then and I took in the very expensive canine insulin to show him. He got out his handy guide and found me a human insulin that was a fraction of the cost of the canine one.
Good to 'see' you Susan. I so understand you knee troubles. Sure limits what you can do . Would be great for you to be pain free. Will you be celebrating Robbie Burns Day this year?
Karen are you getting snow right now? The weather map looks like it is coming from your way. The Weather Liars did it again.... I was expecting to get up to an icy mess - just a bit of snow here.
Time for all of us to go outside for awhile. I'll load another wheel barrow with wood so I have a full load ready to bring in tomorrow morning.
If I don't end up in Kansas I'll be back later.
Dianne
Barb, my diabetes is no longer controlled by my medications and Dr. wants me on insulin. I'd like to avoid that if I can. Some of the other meds you see advertised have scary side effects which my dr. pooh poohed when I mentioned that. She said well everything has side effects these days.
Diane we're supposed to get more snow here starting about 7 p.m. I hope not much as we have to go out tomorrow. Hubby needs service on his hearing aids, I have to get a blood draw, and I have a presentation to a WWII Navy vet who's 91.
Oh Karen what an honour to present the quilt to this gentleman !!
If the Weather Liars are right I should get quite a dump of snow tomorrow. I'm in for the week so it won't affect me. I went and checked out the lane for my friend's builder. The builder wants to come in tomorrow and was worried about getting in. I guess last Wed 1 of the trucks got stuck on the ice and they had to bring sand in for some of the hills.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne and her Thundering Herd
Barb, that is wonderful news for Norm. You two should be so proud of yourself. A lot of individuals know what to do, they just do not do it.
Marilyn, so glad you made it. I have only been to TO once about 16 years ago. We flew there to pick up two baby schnauzers. Madeline and Jordan. Two different breeders. When we left our flight was delayed because of high winds and the landing in Chicago I still remember that landing. Oh My..Then we sat in the Chicago airport for about 3 hours waiting for the wind to ease. We finally landed in Las Vegas about 2am. I was so tired I could barely walk when we got off the plane.
Housekeeper was here today and the house looks wonderful. I have all the laundry caught up and I also washed all of the throw rugs today. I did get some Christmas decorations put away today but I have the Santa Claus boxes high up that need to be brought down. Landscapers will be here tomorrow and I will tip them to help me get them down. Then I can have them come by Thursday and put them back up. Vern could not find me late morning and panicked. He told the housekeeper I was probably on a ladder somewhere and he was really worried. I had taken the dogs for a walk. I told him I would not get on a ladder so stop worrying about that. But after 49 years he knows how stubborn I am but I told him I am not stupid.
David Bowie, somehow I missed. I have always been into classical music and slow types of music so I guess I just changed the station when he came on. During his hey day I was busy working many hours a day and did not watch much TV. But have also been very conservative my whole life so his outfits probably moved me in another direction.
Karen, how is your blood level. The blood specialist said Vern's red cells are slowly going down. He is on blood thinners so they check it often. Of course, he has not been taking his iron pills. I asked him to start taking them today, he had a prescription, and he agreed. Of course, I told him he could take them or have a colonoscopy. I know, not fair, but after all of these years, sometimes you cannot play fair. Heheheheh...
Dianne, have my sleep angels found you. Marilyn, I id not have real spiders on the ceiling just big or small black spots moving across the ceiling. I actually am not afraid of spiders. They are good for my hummingbirds. They make webs and hummers use the webs to make their nests. So in the spring, I stop sweeping away their webs.
I called our auto insurance today to notify them that Vern was no longer driving. They said it made no difference in the premium. I cannot believe that but I will fight that battle when we buy a new car. My goal id to buy a new car with a low rate and finance it for 60 months. What do I care. My current SUV is a 2003 with 60,000 miles. . I do not switch cars very often. My average is just over 10 years. Bt I id drive my nieces car, she is a general manager of a Honda dealer, and she took my Lexus SUV in for service. I have always been her mother, once removed. Her mother deserted her when she was very young, Well I loved the new car's ability of alerting me when someone was in my blind spot. It actually activates a red light on your side mirror. That is one of my bigger problems on the freeway and most of Vern's doctors are right off the freeway.
Well it is time for me to start the countdown to bed time. Have a wonderful morning. Marilyn, you two are in my prayers and thoughts.
Hugs to you all. Sharon...and I have not purchased a lottery ticket. No place to purchase a ticket in Nevada.....
Prayers for "M" and Gord this morning.. Holding you close.
I hope you get the car you want.
Also sitting quietly in the corner, keeping "M" and Gord in our prayers.
Fresh coffee is ready if anyone needs a cup. Help yourself.
Dianne, I pray the TH and you had a good nights sleep.
Karen, take pictures if you can. Bless you for doing all you do for the vets.
yes, Karen - bless you for what you're doing.......
Marilynne - hugs to you
Everyone is in my prayers.
Betty are you awake, or just busy crafting with the ladies? Show us what you are working on please?
If Betty's not, I am.... got a phone call at 7am from someone I don't know and they don't answer when I do... everyday, from someone in SW Florida.... must be some sort of spam?!?!?!
Gord is in surgery as we speak
Kinda stress ful
Takes half an hour
Haven't had any food since 6pm yesterday
I keep getting lost when I venture off this unit lol
Gigantic place.
Bbl
Hugs
M
Keeping you in prayers "M". I hope you find something to eat soon.
Isn't there a Timmies on the main floor? I can't remember if it is in the actual lobby or just down the street? Been a long time since I have been at Toronto Western.
Room service tonight M? Or are you going to order in whatever your heart desires - they all deliver just remember to ask them for utensils.Ask at the hotel they can recommend some great places. When we were on the road with the SG we would order in - always had a big meal even if it was almost midnight. Warren had to have his meat and potatoes . There was always something left over for munch the next day.
Still snowing. It stopped for about an hour but is falling quite nicely right now. Supposed to continue on most of the afternoon and tonight. Plow guys will be clapping their hands.
Dawn my cleaning lady has just left. The house is spotless and smells so good. I told the pups we can't walk on the floors for a few hours as I take it all in. lol
Sharon your sleep angels did find me last night. I fell asleep about midnight and slept until about 3 am when I got up to stoke the fire. Fell right back asleep (Wooo hooo) until 5:30. Sure makes a difference in how you go through the next day. Send them again tonight okay?
Thought I might be getting the dizzies so went out very early and got more wood in plus 1 full wheel barrow. at the back door.
Susan do you have call display?
Sending hugs to M and Gord.
Dianne
Today started out blue sky & sunshine but very cold. Walt had appt. just after presentation and then I had a blood draw. While we were on our way to lab, we had white out conditions, very scary. Still snowy but we don't need to go out again for some time.
That is a beautiful quilt Karen. Thanks for volunteering your time.
Glad to hear you are home safe.
"M", is there any updates?
Glad to hear you got some sleep Dianne.
OH Karen what a delightful photo ! Thank you for sharing.
There's a beaut of a storm going on out there. It's Southern Ontario's way of making M and Gord feel right at home. The weather is probably severe enough for the downtown hotels to start offering greatly reduced rates so commuters don't have to make the drive home.
Pups are loving this fresh snow. They like to roll around in it like it was fresh grass. They weren't interested in walking anywhere they just wanted to play in the snow.
LK what's the temp for you today? Someone from Fla was saying it was very chilly as it was 41*. I laughed - that's shorts weather for me.
Stay safe and warm everyone. Glad I didn't put the candles and flashlights away .... tonight is a candidate for the hydro to go out. I am going to look into getting a generator that you just have to push a button to start it. I'll sell the 1 I have now.
BBL

I almost hate to back up to see where my post went.. lol I do apologize if there are multiple, unfinished posts from me! I bumped my mouse and the post I was working on disappeared.. But as I was saying - Congrats to the families with weddings and to the QOV Vets who are finally being recognized for their Service. And to the Presenters, one of whom is one of our own here. Karen, I do hope you are doing well, as well as others here whom I do not know but hope to soon. I'm not on the Threads as much as you all, but do try to read all to catch up -- when I can FIND the new posts! I try to keep them on 'Watch', but still am playing Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You are on a daily basis! LOL
Waving to Betty, wherever she may be....
Hi all - still here, and still loving to hear how you're all doing
Marilynne - glad to hear that Gord's out of surgery and wanting to get around.
Prayers being said for him, and for all on this thread - love you all, met or unmet...........!!
Marilyn, they said on Facebook that winter just arrived in TO. Your and Gord's gift from Mother Nature. So delighted that the surgery is over and successful.. Hope you found something really good to eat. Nice looking room.
Dianne, so glad you got a good night sleep. Need one of these really smart teck kids to rig up a start system for your generator so all you have to do is flip a switch.
Susan, we have called ID and we get so many calls from out of state and we never answer them.
Thunder, wonderful wedding photos. Weddings are so much fun and bring family together. Now that is over, you can sit back and take a deep breath.
Linda, that for the good luck on the car. I hate to spend money on something that we will drive about 15 miles a week. I keep telling everyone it would probably be cheaper to hire a limo.
We had a beautiful sunny day today. I watered my zone pushing plants that are spending the winter in the garage. Good news about moving down to one car is there will be room for more plants. I also spent some time hand watering the violets and other spring flowers popping their heads up. It is getting close to the time to cut back the roses.
Neighbor brought Vern over a piece of Chocolate pie. Made him one happy boy. All the neighbors know I am a good cook but I do not bake.
I will check in tomorrow. You all have a great morning.
Up n are my
Appointment at 7am!
Yep, snow here, but, mild temps
Poor Lorna I'd dealing with -33
Hope today's examination isn't too painful for Gord
Thanks to all of you
Hugs
M

Karen, I love when you deliver your blankets, what a truly remarkable visit.
Nice to see you Susan, yep we get calls from all over the place, telemarketers, and I dunno what else, I don't pick up unless I know the phone #.
You hoo Kathy, How did your court date go? I hope all cleared up.
Barbara and Norman!! OH What wonderful news, found myself cheering out loud! Good for you, but ya know gotta keep up the hard work, sigh I know, lol be quiet. Sounds like your making good progress on your quilt.
Hey Kizmo, glad your able to find. I hope all is well with you. What are you working on? My machine is/has been quiet for a while now. But I do have time set to do my project, Really it shouldn't take too long.
Oh, got to go make DH lunch, be back in a bit.
