Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .. has been +30F the last while, but, the POLAR VORTEX that was predicted, has ARRIVED.
It's 12F .. the dogs haven't even stirred in the half hour I have been up ..
Likely will have to re vamp the packing now ... in actual fact .. I can wear my lighter 3/4 length coat, because, I'll either be in a plane, a cab, a hotel or the hospital for a week ... if we do walk anywhere it'll be from a taxi into a building ..
Get to do laundry and go to the dump today .. will the excitement ever cease :-)
Hope everyone is going to have a nice weekend ..
Take care

Best worse, what did I learn today, winter chat continues.
Keeping you close in my prayers "M" and Gord.
Don't envy you your visit from your stepdaughter Sharon. I loved the cartoon. That's the only kind of gardening I can do anymore and it really struck me funny....
Sure hope the sleep angels find you Dianne.
How are you feeling ladies? Karen, Linda, Susan??
Hope all is well with Joycet and Katie as well.
Going to sew today so must get this breathing machine finished....
Sending lots of prayers with you Dianne. Those are easy to pack. And remember we will all be with you in spirit your whole trip.
I hope all the dogs and owners have a fun day today.
How is your quilt coming along Barb?
I too have to take an ambien and a vicodin when I go to bed, or I will not sleep. We have a heated mattress pad, and that sure helps my bad hip relax.
http://cubits.org/sewingideas/thread/view/83349/
This is the link to my quilt if you want to follow along with it....
Sharon .. I totally missed the cartoon .. absolutely THE TRUTH too :-) I have been downloading pics from our cell phones and I am looking outside remembering the past summers flowers etc .. gosh .. nice memories those :-)
As well .. huge hugs and many thanks, not just to you, but all of you for your continued prayers and support as DH and I trudge along this trail.
Keeping positive thoughts only !!
UGgggggggggggg .. as for the DinL .. I have nary a good word to say of her .. I hope the family is enjoying their vacation in Cuba, I'll never know .. bot ONE call from DS to hid Dad wishing him the best .. find it most distressing, he wasn't raised like that ..
Laundry load #3 .. sheets .. coming up ..

Got almost 5 hours sleep last night. Not all at once but at least I didn't have to sit up and read between sleep. I have been through a litany of sleeping pills over the years. I am on 1 right now that seems to work when I take it but I am afraid if I use it too much I will get too used to it. my system is a lot like my sweet dad's was - it takes double the dose of anything to work on me. Like I can't take just 1 Benadryl I have to take 2 same with Gravol.
Well it was both a light rain and melting I heard overnight. I was able to get out and get the deck shoveled and cleaned off . Car port is cleaned up too and wood in for today. I'll go out this afternoon with the pups and fill another wheel barrow load full of wood ready for Sunday morning. I have to be careful how much I bring in as the pups like to shred the bark off of the blocks of wood. Then they drag the bark to a 'special' place to chew it.
My goodness Sharon if I did all you did for your bedtime routine I would be so wide awake I would be up all night. When Warren was ill I could start my nightly routine early and space it out. He went to bed most nights at 7 so I could give him his pills then and when I was ready to go to bed at midnight I could get him to the bathroom and it was time for another dose of meds.
I'll listen to Toronto weather this weekend M. Although it doesn't much bother you M as you said you are in and out of taxis and buildings. In some ways I miss TO but not that many that I would go back right now. We always said if we sold here we would buy a condo in downtown TO and sell our vehicle.
LK do you find the rainy weather makes your hip act up more? I'll be moving slow today.
Barb are you and Norm up to anything special this weekend?
Karen how are you feeling today?
Make sure you all do something nice for yourself today ladies.
Dianne
Just glanced over your posts, must go back and read
Sending prayers for all in need
Betty!! How great that you are here. You are missed. What are you working on now?
Norm and I are staying put this weekend. We were going to my brother's but he is having company from his wife's family and they are many.
We just had a two hour visit with our neighbor from upstairs. She is most interested in Norm's program. We sometimes quilt together.
Now I'm off to sew some pinwheels......
Hope all is well and I'll BBL....
Here is the link from the Ovarian Society of Canada's public awareness 'bit' on TV. You will have to copy and paste the link
http://youtube/KhYSrLXGWjk
I really think it is a great 'bit' but there has been some controversy about it. A young friend of mine works at the Ovarian Cancer offices in TO. They lured him from North York General hospital - they got themselves a gem of an employee.
Still gray and damp with a light rain. There will be fog tonight for sure.
Barb sounds like a nice day - staying home but I am a homebody. I go out only when I have to .... that's why Warren hooked me up with the job at IGA. He said I was talking to the trees too much.lol He retired from teaching too early and went and got himself a job at the local IGA.
Barb I initially read that you were off to do cartwheels. I was thinking damn that breathing machine works really well for Barb. Teach me to speed read.
Dianne
LOL at the cartwheels! How is Norm doing on his diet?
Betty, so glad to see you back posting.
I'm picking myself up off the floor Dianne. I couldn't do a somersault let alone a cartwheel if I tried!!!! LOFLMAO
I copied and pasted the link and it said it was not available.
Norm is doing excellent Linda - thank you for asking. He has gone from 240+ down to 219 in five weeks. I'm so proud of him. Slowly the doctor will now start to introduce foods back into his diet. They got a new test result this week. This one from all the stool samples which gives a good idea of what is going on in the gut. There are foods that he definitely cannot have back anytime soon. NO beef of any kind, NO dairy of any kind, NO grains of any kind and certain veggies and fruits. He can start to have pork again which made him happy. He loves chops....
It has become really expensive since we have tried to go all organic but that will not continue.
Barb I couldn't get myself off the floor. I can get down but up is just not happening.
Betty always so good to see you, Stick with us please. Unless they get really crazy with anymore "fixes" it's getting easier to get around.
So thrilled to see Betty stopping by!!
Had fun with the dogs today. They were the only adult afghans, so my boy, Klaus was best of breed, and he was the only adult in the hound group, so he got a big rosette and a silver tray! My daughter came with to help, so we had some "girl time". Felt warmish earlier, snowing pretty heavily right now!
Congrats to Klaus.
Way to go Deb and Klaus!!
Barb I am not sure why the link didn't work but if you go to Youtube and type in ovarian cancer canada lady balls you should get Have the # lady balls to do something It is 31 sec long. I'll ask John why the link didn't work.
Woo hoo Norm... way to go. Glad you are able to have some pork now. Keep on keeping what you are doing.I know Barb your love is keeping him on the straight and narrow diet wise.
Keep that snow down there Deb!! I am finally seeing some gravel on the lane.
Later,
Dianne
We're supposed to get 2"-5" of snow tonight. A lot of it was melting when it hit the streets at first, but it sure is sticking now! I'll gladly share! Anyone?!?!?
I'm supposed to get heavy rains all day tomorrow. Good day to snuggle and read!!!
Klaus is a handsome man. My SIL had afghans and they were the most gentle loving dogs. I loved them almost as much as she......
Sayin good night .. I see a post I made just a few hours ago is gone?
Love the new pic Barb .. watch it on the cartwheels:-)
Have the 'special roast' ready to go in the slow cooker for the morning ..
T.ra
~M~
UP I AM .. Sounds like the title of a Dr Seuss book LoL :-)
I think my prob with posting is not picking the correct page .. I click on 'skip to new', but, it could be on page 2instead of 3, which, is where we are .. how's that for convoluted thinking ?
Roast is on .. for $223. there will be NO leftovers .. I have been cooking bigger meals the past while and freezing the leftovers for Lorna to have while we're away ..
Deb .. Klaus is very handsome .. congrats of your girl time, and the win :-)
Sharon .. whoa .. Victorian people? Cool, but,a bit unsettling I would think ..
Thought of you the other day when we were in Best Buy .. there was a huge display entitled 'SMART HOMES' .. several people were milling about watching the video .. it'd be a BIG no no for me .. I'd be overriding everything because it wouldn't go as quickly as if I did it myself ..
Off to the Reserve for gas .. Lorna gets it for about $.82/L ..
Have to buy a NIGHTIE .. how the heck I'll ever SLEP in one is anyone's best guess .. I'm a devout fan/wearer of flowered undershirts and underwear .. have housecoats to cover up, but, I think I'd feel better were I to wear a nighty.
COLD morning .. we have let the furnace come on as Lorna feels better not having to stoke the woodstove, and, so do we ..
As Dianne will attest to .. nothing nicer than wood heat ..
I see Susan (TallulahB) posting on ATP .. I guess she doesn't post here anymore.
Best grab a cuppa

Good morning! Going to be a miserable day today with pounding rain and high winds. Staying in and reading/sewing/sleeping!!! LOL
I'm sure Lorna will be just fine "M". We will keep her and the pups in our prayers as well as Gord and You...
$223.00 for a roast?
Please know we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Pop in when you can.
Not too much snow overnight, just a light covering, but it's COLD! 12F this morning, the pups were anxious to get outside, and didn't want to come in! Had to go out and bribe them with cookies to get them inside.
Good Morning!
Awe, Congratulations Klause!! Deb, so glad you had girl time with your daughter.
Big Smiles for Norm!! and you too Barbara. lol, had to laugh with ya's on your cartwheel, haha went back and re-read your post, funny how the mind see's at quick glance...So, the quilt your working on for yourself Pinwheels?
Yep hard work these diets are I am wondering about you, have you lost some weight following his diet too....Cool, make a feast with pork! lol the reason I ask, is because Steve put himself on a diet, of course it affects me too. So he has decided to do an exercise program too for which he made me walk 4 blocks in the freezing cold, needless to say I was not happy and either were my legs! Well, in the long run, I guess it was good for me. UH, I haven't seen him exercise since. But I do admit he has dropped a few lbs.
M, got you and Gord in mind and sending tight armwraps! Hope you find a comfy nighty.
Sharon, thanks for the cute cartoon! lol, that's me year round! I gotta quit thinking and just do.
Dianne, I did not miss that you had a special fire, so glad you opened the special bag. Wondering did those socks keep your feet toasty? Once my brother had socks that ran on battery, well I didn't know so I washed them regular...good gosh the poor guy was getting shock therapy after that, had to throw them away!
Oh Karen, I thought about your GD who shot the buck yesterday as I had a family of deer in my yard yesterday. Got some pretty good photos. But lol, my Cuz mentioned she wanted to go home while there go hunting, lol I posted a picture of the Deer standing in the yard right off my deck, lol my kind of hunting!!
Betty, Betty!! so glad to see you pop in. Hope to see you more and more, we miss you, know you are in my thoughts and prayers daily.
Linda Kay, what you working on? Well, Yesterday I found a pattern, I think I am going to do. It's for my MIL's Birthday. I'm making a bag for her walker.
Oh my gosh, so James may have to have surgery on his neck!! I saw a picture of his truck, I can't believe he walked away. You know what he said He could feel Bear with him. (my sister) That made me cry and sort of comforted me. Yep, I feel like she is with everyone who needs her support, anyway when he slammed the breaks and flew forward the belt crushed the veins in his neck. We are hoping the meds with open them and no surgery will be needed.
Yep lots going on, We had a gas leak, so after a long day of work Steve had to fix that...I had been up and down the stairs pretty much the whole day, never noticed, I was so glad he got home when he did, by that time the smell was pretty strong he could smell it upon entering the house. Whew that could have disastrous.
I was suppose to go to Greenbay Wi yesterday, but because of the pending storm trip was cancelled, Thank God, I was seriously worried. Today My cuz is coming for Tea, I am pretty excited for the visit.
MOONBEAM, How are you doing?
I been typing this for a while, I better get a move on and clear the counters...look through my stash.
Enjoy the day, Be safe on the roads travelled.
We got 8" of snow through the night and supposedly not over yet. We should be OK as long as the wind doesn't come up. Pretty chilly just 21. Did a grocery shopping yesterday so we are OK just snugged in.
Oh my goodness DG ate my post while I was actually paying attention. Grrrrrr
I'll be back later to try again.
Dianne
Hi - I've been posting on ATP, and haven't been "spreading myself thin", trying to keep up with 3 sites. Still don't like the format here, but thought I'd pop in to say HI, and glad to see some of my friends. (Hi Betty!! tried to call you, but guess you weren't at home......)
Bob's not sleeping well (the 28th is looming and he's not looking forward to it, and nor am I, but trying to have days where we don't think about it), I'm taking something to sleep every night - this helps.
Also taking my updated amounts of meds and this is helping.
MRI showed I have (in both knees) Osteoarthritis, fluid, and tears to the meniscus. As well, I have a sprain in my left knee. Glad for the meds, but they make me dozy (also helps me sleep).
Here's a Guardian Angel for you.
Blessings to you all
Hey Judy, not doing much here. Sewing machine is put away. Maybe after my surgery I will get it out.
WOW! I pray they meds open the veins in his neck too! Make sure he keeps a close eye on things.
Susan, will you be having surgery soon on your knees? Sending prayers for your court date.
I'm sending prayers too Susan...
Hope James is okay Judy. Are the meds working?
Got 10 more pinwheels done so mow I'm going to watch football for a while.
Ooops I didn't follow the yellow brick road. I posted on the last thread and have no idea how to move it.That's why the posts were missing.
My computer skills are zero.
D
I'll answer here too.
I use it in every load of whites, about 1/2 cup, along with regular bleach.
If you have some items to whiten, I usually use a bucket or large bowl, Put in 1/2 cup dishwasher Detergent and about the same Era. Fill with hot water, swish the item every once in a while, if necessary repeat or I sometimes leave to soak over night.
I have used this on delicate swiss batiste baby dresses that have sat for years. removes stains, whitens and doesn't harm the fabric.
Thanks Karen. I will try that in the morning.
D
Sounds good Karen .. haven't used liquid dishwasher detergent in a bit, will have to buy some ..
OOPS .. the roast was $23. :-) and, YUMMY as all git out !!!
The MAJOR highway that crosses Canada .. The TransCanada .. is singular .. you start on one end and go either east or west .. just east of Thunder Bay by about 60miles .. is an engineering marvel, it took about 3-5 years to build a most breath talking 'SUSPENSION bridge .. it has been open for maybe 4 months .. well .. today .. it CRACKED in the cold, and, it is closed down ! I can't imagine the nightmare for people going across Canada .. of from one small town to another ..
http://www.enl-tbay.com/NipigonBridge/Home-Cam.html
Best get at my DON'T forget packing list, have to find a SMALLER umbrella .
If I don't get online in the morning, I will try to post while away
HUGS and THANKS
~M~
Umbrellas don't fare well in windy downtown TO. They say winds and 6 cm of snow by morning. Piece of cake for you 2 strong Northerners to handle.
Wind has picked up again and the rain is coming down in sheets. Good thing I don't have to drive into Kingston tomorrow. I could probably skate in ....
D
Have a safe trip.
Wow, I can't imagine the traffic jams from that bridge closing down.
M I imagine the truckers are tearing their hair out right about now. Glad you don't have to access the bridge to get to the airport.
All ready for the power to go off. I have a feeling it will. If the power does go out tonight I won't bother starting the generator until the morning. Have flashlights and propane lamps all ready. Fire is blazing away so it is nice and toasty.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne
Hi - just waiting to hear from a specialist re: my knees - Dr has sent my MRI report, hoping this will hurry the process along. He seems very concerned about them, and I sure don't want to wait 8 months to get a specialist, like I waited to have the MRI.
Both knees - fluid on them, torn meniscus, osteoarthritis.
Left knee - sprain on the inside (how did I do that? If it was when I fell last Jan 2015, it's been awhile and no wonder I'm hurting...)
Bob hasn't been sleeping well (worried about the upcoming hearing - Jan 28th), and I'm not surprised.
I'm making 2 prayer shawls - one for my landlady (lost her Mom, in Malaysia, Jan 2nd) and one for our church - they give shawls to those who need a "hug" because of illness, or loss of a family member, etc. The church supplies the wool for their shawls, and I prefer the wool I got for Grace - easier to knit with (not so "bumpy" as the Homespun Lion's Pride wool from the church)

Karen about how much dish washing detergent do you put into the washing machine? I have some whites that need some whitening but all I can picture is the time Warren put liquid dish washing detergent in the dish washer. He called me at work in a panic saying there were soap bubbles all over the kitchen floor and they just kept coming. He could laugh about it later but at the time no - he was even peeved I was laughing.
Chaos is in big trouble. I am so angry I can't even cry. Somehow he got a hold of 2 pictures I have on my night table of Warren. I managed to save 1 but the other one was in pieces. It was a photo of Warren from the early 70's.If that wasn't enough he counter surfed right in front of me and deliberately knocked off a pound of butter I had thawing. This not being able to get their usual amount of walks in is taking its toll. I did walk them in the pouring rain just a bit ago so hopefully I got all the zoomies out of them.
I seem to have several posts missing from Jan 7 until Joyce posted today. Hmmm wonder what happened.
Pouring rain but the wild winds have calmed down. Temp is starting to drop and the snow is supposed to start to fall soon. The lane has started to flood in a couple of a low laying areas.I went out to Foodland to get some mild and dog treats as I am sure I will be iced in for a few days.
Later
Dianne
I am so sorry to hear Chaos got your pictures.
Susan, I hope they can get you an appointment soon. Also sorry to hear your landlord lost her Mom. Are they flying to Malaysia?
Thanks LK.
Turning into a nasty night here. The wind is howling off of the lake and around the house.I thought the wind was done earlier but no its back.
Well Chaos and Duke yanked my chain even harder tonight. I was out on the deck with Diesel. He was trying to help me anchor down the cover on the BBQ. I heard cans fall and that was my signal to get back inside. They managed to pull off of the counter what was left of the pizza I had for dinner. I only had 2 pieces and was so looking forward to leftovers. I had put it way back in on the counter and put my recycling around it so that's the cans falling that I heard. I just lost it and yelled at them. Diesel ran in tho the BR and laid his head on my pillow. It was like ' you guys are going to get a tongue lashing and I'm not".
Time to stoke the fire and read for a bit. I started a book about Rose Kennedy and so far it is really good.
Looking for Sharon's sleep angels tonight.Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne
Marilyn, I am either really weird or really smart. When I see spiders on the ceiling, I have been seeing them every morning when I wake up for years, or the Victorian people when drifting off to sleep, I know they are not real. I actually lay there and tell Vern what I am seeing. I did make the mistake of telling a doctor one time about the spiders and after his panic, I just backed off and have never told a doctor again. I can actually make the spiders move from one side of the bedroom to the other. Only first thing in the morning when I am waking up and they were there long before I started taking sleeping aids. But I also dream I can fly or when I go down stairs, I slide down the stairs, not touching the stairs. When I get to the bottom of the stairs, I look around to make sure everyone saw me. I guess secretly I am an ego manic.
Diane, you are a nice mother. I would have kicked a few butts over the picture. Then the PIZZA. I love cold Pizza. They would have gotten another boot. Hopefully my sleep angels found you.
Marilyn, I too thought wow, that is an expensive roast. Then once you said you were cooking larger meals, I thought maybe it a very large roast. I do hope your trip to TO is safe and successful.
Susan, nice to see you drop by.
Barb, how is your quilt coming.
Linda, your procedure is getting closer every day. I bet you are eagerly awaiting being rid of the pain. Our temps are headed back up and you are probably in the same type of weather. We did have nice rain last week several days in a row. And we have had a large amount of snow pack in the mountains and that is so needed for Lake Mead. How are you guys doing with your drought?
I have to get off of here and get Vern ready for bed. Diane, you were right getting everything done in a less cramped time schedule, but Vern does not get up until around noon and goes to bed around 11pm. But you are right, I could clean the litter box in the morning, not at night. I will review my schedule and see what I can switch from night to the next morning. Thanks so much for the input.
I am calling our insurance agent tomorrow because I have never taken Vern off the car insurance. He has not driven in over a year. Should save us some money.
See you all tomorrow. Sleep tight. Sharon
