Status of Updates & Fixes

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Column 1 on my Custom Home Page says I'm watching 57 forums as of Dec. 9th. I can't seem to change, update or remove that no matter what I do. Anyone know how???

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Threads are also turning up as new or unread for me when they've already been read.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Please put home back on the top of each page like it was before.

Thank you.

(Zone 5a)

I had the old posts showing up like new Thursday, but for the most part seems resolved. One will pop up now and again, but not to the extent of earlier. It needs to be fixed, but I tell you having the broken Skip to New, this seems so less annoying.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

My issue with old posts showing now seems to have been resolved.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Same here. Posts showing up as new when not.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I commented on one of the Daily Articles today. Usually I would get a notice when someone else posted to the same thread, but I didn't get one. I don't see a Watch button on the page anywhere either. Am I missing something, or is this something else that needs fixed?

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

HollyAnnS -- There is a teeny tiny "Watch" button under the thread title "Status of Updates & Fixes" and on the left side. Get out your magnifying glass!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks June, I see those but what I am talking about is the Feature of the Day Articles. Specifically Melody Rose's Cutting Christmas Trees from the Wild. I made a comment on the article and got a response but wasn't notified that there was a response to my comment and I can't find a "watch" button any where in that feature.

weird thing.... a thread that popped up in my "watcher" is not seen in the forum.

Pets forum | Ya-ya Sister cat nip tea .....
here is the thread - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1386438/
here is the forum - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/pets/all

I know two of us that follow this thread can not find it within the forum, only the thread when it popped up in our "watcher" - Hope that was clear.

Not sure where it was or where it came from... but I used the "sort" by Activity and it was back at the top of my list.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I have moved on too but I am sad to say it. I look at the threads I have long been a part of but don't look at anything new.

For me It was reading one too many times comments to the effect that something has changed and if we will note other "similar sites do it that way too." Well, DG WAS unique. Its format and layout were its own. To keep justifying why functionality is lost with "other sites have gone this route" ( or to that effect ) is unsatisfactory...what's the difference if 'other sites' do things in a way that is inferior to what was? I chose DG for its uniqueness and ease of navigation and for its members. Well, two of those are all but gone and the members I know are fading fast. More's the pity. To me...the total membership ...is like names on a petition..,signed in and not seen again. I hope the owners/ investors don't equate membership with viewership.

I just realized that I'm only being notified that a couple threads I'm either watching or have posted on have new posts. This being one of them....I've missed a lot I don't know how to find them again. It's like I was just kicked out of the system...I doubt I'm the only one. This issue may have already been brought up but I dont know, Ive missed sooo much.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

That usually means its being worked on, but the update/refresh issue is still undergoing adjustments, I am sure. They supposedly break for weekends, so the fixers wont return til Mon. Kicked out may mean hackers trying to troll...it does on my cellphone esp.

1lisac, you might be able to locate them by checking your member page and see what threads you watch, and/or see what threads you started.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I was seeing the same thing, but it seems like it was a temporary glich. As soon as a new post was actually made in the ones that were showing there, it started working as it should again for me.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Is adding a "Home" link next to the "Back to Top" link on the bottom right hand side of the screen on the to do list?

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

don't forget, the people working on this work Mon-Fri, 8 to 5, you aren't going to get help on a weekend.

What I've started doing to get back "Home" is just clicking my Bookmark for DG up in my Bookmark Tool bar... it's the fastest way for me to get "back home". ~~ Not liking the Back to Top as much as i thought I would, as it only takes me back to the top of the page... would rather go back Home. But it is what it is.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Good tip tcs. Hadn't thought of that, but it accomplishes the same one click goal to get where I want to be after I have read the latest posts in a thread. Thanks!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Guess it only saves on "one click", just gets me back Home a bit faster. I wish once you post a message, it would keep us on the current page and not the beginning of the thread, like it used to do.

and the Back to Top is a fast "scroll" instead of a "jump".... by clicking the Bookmark, i just get there faster.

Now, on the thread "changes to the Files," it is likewise unwilling to admit that I have ever read it before. It is a thread I am watching and have posted on, but I do not care to post again at the moment. It won't stop putting it as something with a new post. I am posting here because I don;'t want to report the same problem on different threads, and it's not a PlantFiles problem

We are aware of the syncing issue on the home page - I had noted it in the first post on this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/memberlist/ and along with it, I suggested a work-around until the home page is overhauled as well.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

So I'm not the only one that's not being notified of new post? I wasn't notified of these new posts but I'm notified of some..,so I didn't know I was missing anything. I can work around it but not if I don't know there is a problem. I wonder why some threads notify me of new posts but not all?

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

When there is a new post on a thread on my list of Watched Threads it shows up as purple on my list. Once I've read it it disappears (eventually!).

(Zone 5a)

Another fix!! There is now a link on the main page of each forum that says, "Add to favorite forums". So now I have DG Site Updates on my old homepage. The watched forums still are not updating, but now it is handier to get to the forums I am interested in.

I am really going to miss the homepage when it goes through the overhaul mentioned. I am not really quite appreciating the look of http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/ yet. Though if you scroll all the way down, there are the latest photos in the identification forums. For those who help in those forums that can be handy.

A suggestion: On the main forum page, the Most Recent Threads updates with all the images uploaded to the plant files. When people are active uploading images to the plant, bird, bug files (not a bad thing, but...) the discussion threads get buried among that. Is there any way to separate photo uploads from the discussions? There is no actual discussion, just the creation of a discussion page. With the old homepage, I watch the bird and bug file discussions, but it did not update on my homepage until someone actually left a comment.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Some of mine are showing up but not all ie this one. At the beginning of this thread it says its fixed so I never thought to look any further.

Hmmm. That is a good suggestion. Let us talk with the techs and see what we can do in a future release to address that. Your point is well-taken: a sudden slew of system-generated threads can bury threads where there are current discussions taking place.

Lisa, do you mean on your "home" page or the "Forums" main page?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Why are the additions to Plantfile Pics- &bug and bird- still only posting 1 pic at a time? Anyway? Still trying to help Jen as her issues with threads, old/new/ updating are trying to sync her into Outlook and Ms10...no practice with these formats at all.

They have always done that - each photo released from the queue creates its own discussion thread. Do you have a suggestion for a better way to handle them?

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

On my homepage. Some threads are showing that they are updated but not all. This one didn't show up so I went to this forum and found this thread. Don't understand why some are showing as updated but not all?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Curious that EACH picture creates a discussion thread, if the shots are of same item. Just wasn't aware of it as cellphone views are 'twisted' in that area, so had avoided area til I get home to larger devices. Guess it assissts add data to the diff folks posting pix...

Madison, AL

Updates not happening (not since Thursday or Friday)

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Everything on the threads I watch is updating. Curious as to why some are not.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Ok, I thought I had been keeping up with reading here, but, I guess not..............what kind of "change" is coming to the home page?????? Can't SOMETHING stay the same so we can find our "homes" here???? It is making me sad, among other things.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Frankly I'd like the current Home page to stay just as it always has been. If it isn't broke, don't "fix it" please. Change for the sake of change is not needed at this point.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! June

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I didn't get any update that there were new posts on this form, again! I did on others tho.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

The daily Birthday thread is never updated on my homepage, yet I go to the forum, and there is a new post every time.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

'Welcome home' has not been updating, making it hard to know if there's been any new posts; I printscreened it right now, yet it is showing no updates later than 9 December!

I found similiar issues ..it got fixed ( I think ) ( who knows what's missing until we miss it) when I physically went to the top of the thread and clicked "watch" -- it used to be that all I had to do was post to a thread and it was automatically updated and I was notified when new posts added.... Not so now. We have to actively. "watch" it
