Terry -- don't think I'll be of much help. I do believe it only happened to me twice, once was just a reply in a thread and the other was a new post. Both were in the Parking Lot. No special characters used. If I do use quotes, I use the key next to the ENTER key, double quote, singe quote.
I do recall that in the new thread i was trying to create, I do add a link from our previous thread, but again, no special characters, just a pasting of the URL.

This post is going to go through with no problem apparently.

Test message Is "this" type of character causing a problem, or is it the?
I just spent 30 minutes trying to post but after all the time and effort, it just kept disappearing. I hate to give up, but I think I'm done here.
Love you all.
Love you, too Cville! I'm dmailing you my email address. If it is not too much to ask, could you send me via email what you were trying to post this morning and I will copy and paste it and see if I can get it to post on my Test thread in the Test Forum. At least I can compare with a post of mine that won't post and disappears and maybe get a bit closer to identifying which character or characters are causing our lovely, important posts to be stripped from DG for security reasons.
Terri,
Just realized I'm not getting updates to threads I'm watching.....None since December 9, 2015....
My Home Page forums aren't updating...
So, I looked at Tuckersmom's "photo", and when I clicked on the back to the "Status of Updates and Fixes" ..............IT TAKES ME BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE THREAD???? Then it is try and find where you were............click on first unread.............click on the "page" you thought you were on, then scroll back UP to try and find where you were.
How is this more efficient than getting to where you want to be in 1 click?

I had no problem viewing the image and I tried both my browser's back button and the link, "back", both took me right back to her post. I use Firefox on a PC. Maybe this is related to browser or device you are using?? I think I would take a break from the forums pretty quickly if I had to deal with that.
I hope the Skip to New is made a priority, but I am getting faster at getting to the new posts quickly. :)
I am using Google Chrome on the PC, and it does the same thing on the iPad.
If anyone wants to get updates on a certain thread, you need to go to the top of that thread, and click on the little eye icon, watch this thread.
Just posting in a thread does not make it automatic to show updates anymore.
Another bug admin needs to fix.
Thanks taters. I wondered what was happening.
Well, I'm trying very hard to find things about this new format to like, but not having much success, sorry to say.
First of all, I fail to understand why everything has to be so drastically changed to be upgraded. I would think that the inner workings could be upgraded without messing everything up. It appears that everything that was NOT broke got fixed, whether it needed it or not. Senseless.
Okay, things that, IMHO need to be fixed:
Add pagination to the top of each page as well as the bottom. But why do we have to have so many pages? I tried changing the number of posts shown at a time on my preferences page, but obviously it doesn't work. Scrolling down through a large number of posts was not nearly as aggravating as having to go through the steps needed now to get to the newest posts.
Add 'Back to Home' along with the 'back to top'.
Go back to the newest post (or end of the thread) after sending a post. It's downright frustrating when it goes back to the very top of the thread and you have to through all the steps to pick up where you left off.
Do something about so much glaring white, PLEASE! Having every other post shaded helps a little, but it is still very cold, harsh and unfriendly appearing. But maybe that's a good thing, it discourages me from spending so much time reading the different forums.
And my list of watched forums on my home page is not updating, hasn't for several days now.
Terry, I know this change has been a big headache for you, and I really do appreciate all the time and effort you've put into this. And I'll appreciate it even more if it ever gets back to being more user friendly.
Thanks. . . ..
Vern
Am attempting to reduce the amount of 'watched' threads via 'my info' and 'view threads you are watching'. On many of the watched threads- choosing 1 post takes me only to that forum, then I have to search for that post. Occasionaly I am delighted to be sent STRAIGHT to the post I had chosen.
Why do only a few forum posts work so well when others do not?
Terry
I have my ads off but still see ads.
I had the same problem. Terry had me "refresh" my browser while in DG and worked like a charm.
I hit Shift / refresh in the browser.
It wasn't broke. It didn't need a new look. I'm considering leaving too.
FYI I wrote a post which included a Hyphen. The post disappeared so I went back to the original post and removed the dash. When I hit the preview button things appeared as they should on page 2 and the post went through. I only tried it with the one post.
That is interesting... I use hyphens all the time. Went back to that one post, and I guess I had all sorts of characters, including many hyphens.

Patti, thanks for posting that.
Terese
Has anything been fixed today?
Patti I think you may be on to something with the hyphen.
I'm finding that after I hit Preview and my message appears, if my message does not also appear in the Edit Message box that when I hit Post Reply I get Edit Message page with no message in box. So I know that I have to go back to original message prePreview and change something until when I do hit Preview the message appears in both places. Once it is also in the Edit message box it will post.
It will also post for me if I copy and paste original message into the empty Edit message box and hit Post reply under the Edit box.
I suspect the security stripping that Terry posted about as the cause of lost posts is happening in Preview mode as the same characters like quotes or hyphens are not a problem in Edit and then Send modes basically by passing Preview.
why do we still need to see OLD POST From 2007 & older ? this is as annoying as the ads were . hope to see updated post .
Can we get back How many post has been made or viewed to our threads . ?
will we be able to send 3-5 Pic's In our Dmail soon rather then Just one at a time?
& why dose the skip to new works for dmail but not on our Threads ?

This morning, I used the little circle icon in reference to temperature. That caused my post to strip. After going back to the original post and removing the little circles, I had no issue with posting. I guess we are safe if we type letters and the commas and periods. I'm finding that some of the other characters are what are causing my issues on the tablet.
Attaching a screenshot of a message that did not go to this morning.
I see that you and coleup may have trouble-shot the problem; in this case a hyphen. (Odd, but we'll have the techs scout it out along with the degree symbol.)
I read the screenshot that didn't post, and I should clarify that techs work M-F for the most part. They also don't roll out fixes or upgrades over the weekend, because there aren't resources available if something doesn't work as expected/tested. I'm not a tech and don't make any changes/fixes :-).
I am asking once more - is there any plan to put those page numbers at the top that require clicking on before getting to last post? This business of having to click skip to new, scroll to those page numbers, click on last one which takes you to top of last page, click again on skip to new, and scroll up all posts to find the last one you read is past being annoying. This is elementary programming - implemented correctly on hundreds of commercial websites - so please let me know if this is on the list to be changed. If the programmers plan to leave this function as it is now, please let us know so we can stop looking for it to be changed. Than you.
Terry, I was able to post a short post with a hyphen yesterday on my Test thread. Putting a hyphen here - to test again
So, a single hyphen sneaks by for me. So, I will add - you guessed it - some more - hyphens - of course - and make this post long enough to trigger the see more - see less - options.
Think I need another - hyphen - and sentence or two - to be sure.
Judy
Added - looks like this one is a go - too,
here is message I am trying to post but can't unless I copy and paste in the empty message box where I can edit my Preview.
Don't know if this is a 'bug or 'tweak' or just me, but most of the posts are double with the option of 'Read more' or "Read less' both appearing

I wish you would bring back the "back to the home page" that was at the bottom between the last post and where I could type in a post.
Anna, along the side of each thread - and the color is a little faded - which is something we can fix - are "Back to top" links. Eventually those will probably be handier than having just one at the bottom of each thread.

Terry, if you remember, I have made the above message by copying and pasting a post you made that quotes Anna so three different key stroke inputs

Terry, thanks for the clarification regarding the techs work schedule. I knew you would read the screenshot. LOL I didn't say anything nasty. In fact, I appreciate all that you are doing and can only imagine the headaches these changes have caused for both you and the programmers.
I did notice this morning that, for the first time, I am able to access a "back to post" function from each picture posted. Previously, I had to use the back arrow to get back to the original post If there were fewer than five pictures, but more than one. This is a good thing.
I just want to know how you were able to insert a smiley face, complete with a hyphen, and the post didn't drop. LOL
Patti
Why are my posts never answered? My requests?
Kit - my question also. I see mostly discussion of key strokes, hyphens, and pictures. I realize everyone thinks their own question is the most important. Bit it would be nice to know that my issue (difficulty of actually accessing the newest posts without so much clicking around (4 separate ones) is being addressed. Maybe they are just too busy for us at the moment.
Terry
I have my ads off but still see ads.
Do you still see them? You had one ad option turned on, which I disabled. That should cause them to disappear altogether, but let me know.

I can try to help, but I'll need a few more details to replicate the problem - each time I click on a "watched thread" link I am taken to that thread. Can you link to a thread that didn't work that way when you clicked on it from the "FORUMS" page (or are you trying to access them from your "HOME" page?

Yes, I've noted that pagination is still not optimized in the first post. But the techs said that they would be working on addressing the broken functions first, and adding page tabs at the top would be a lower priority for right now. As soon as I have an ETA for that particular fix, I will let you know.
Just out of curiosity are most of the problems with disappearing posts on mobile devices? The biggest glitch I experienced was with the "read more", "read less" links that didn't work, but...so far (my fingers are crossed)...I haven't had any issues with my posts disappearing.
Have any of you using desktops had disappearing posts? If it's only mobile devices, could the symbols on those devices be triggering something additional in the website that makes it think the post is a threat?
I know it's probably a really dumb question, but I couldn't help but wonder.
For those who forget to click "watch" on threads they reply to, I found a workaround. Clicking on this link takes you to all the posts you've participated in. It still has the same ol' glitch of not showing the results past page one, but it is something.
http://davesgarden.com/myposts.php
I just realized that my "watched" forums on my home page aren't showing any updates although threads on the "watched" forums are showing up in the recent posts section. I thought that for the past week it was just a decline in postings to my "watched" forums due to all of the confusion over this disaster of a format update that has been handled badly from the start. Done.
