SUPPLIES

Optional:

. dryer (helps dry your painted areas if you are short on painting time)
. permanent pens - wide and thin (used for facial expressions and outline) Make sure
when you use these and wipe with water for testing they don't bleed
. stero meat trays to hold paint..I use stero paper plates bought at $$$ Store
. your choice of saran wrap or cup open plastic bags

Paints:

$$$ store has pretty well all the colors you need...would suggest having a liner brush as well
which they seem to have in all our $$$ stores should you not already have in your painting supplies

. cream or white

. Medium and dark blue (white/cream can be added to make different tones of blue)

. Medium green and a bright green (if you don't have it you could put yellow in the medium)

. Black (adding white/cream will make your grey

. Red

. Orange

INCLUDED in KIT

. sealant (either in a small bottle or your linoleum will already be sealed)
. pattern for 2 floormats so you have a choice of either
. piece of graphite
. few sparkles (can't have a DG Christmas workshop without sparkles)
. posting of the kit

Thanks Betty, I have it printed out.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, likely I will get the pattern together today once the piece is painted, the pattern and a few sparkles in an envelope and send it out to you and Liz (2 kits sent out from Florida)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That will work. Thanks so much! Let me know the postage please?

Merry Christmas Snowmen Floormat - 2nd option

I won't post the smooshing portion of the instructions..you can all go back and start your mat from the beginning...
i.e.
sealing the mat if not already done for you

basecoating the entire mat with medium value blue

when dry marking off a 3" border

taping off the border - tape on the outside of the insert-make sure your tape has been burnished
so not leakage..fingernail or somethig flat, maybe quarter run along edge will do

smooshing color to give a mottled look to the background

Remove tape

LET DRY

. trace pattern and give several coats of beige/off white to your snowman outline
excluding note, eyes and mouth, these will be set on once your face has dried

when dry go to the section above that says how to dry brush cheeks

Photo 1:

put tape at bottom edge and side edge of both snowman

. trace outline of snowman faces only at this time and give 2 or 3 coats of cream/white

I prefer to paint the faces cream then when you've got good coverage take your scruffy brush and lightly with white add some texture to the faces

not sure if you can see it in this photo but I'll try and get a photo that really shows you the dimention

let dry

here you can see some mottling texture

trace pattern on snowman faces and position and trace "Merry Christmas"

do love watching the piece come alive

IS anybody keeping me company?

what do you think of this floormat?

know it's not finished yet but which is your preference

I am here, going back and forth from DG to Facebook.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I know I don't get a vote but I think both are pretty cute. Maybe this one is a bit cuter.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I like this one too!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I like first best, but like 'em both!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hurrahhhhh
not painting alone lol

not sure, do like the first one but then I'm not finished this one..
haven't touched the border yet because I'm not quite sure how I want to do it

Painted 'Merry Christmas' with liner and adding just a touch of black, almost has a maroon tone to it..I'm trying to use just the paints listed as not to make you spend more than you would have wanted to on this project but if anybody has dk maroon, go for it

I didn't do 'Merry Christmas' in over powering letters, just soft so it doesn't take away from the piece..actually once the snow is on the snowman nose it might take on another appearance.

Going to take a little break, seems there is homework for Saturday's tree skirt class so must take a run and pick up the list of 'to do' and some fabric

be back in a bit

Victoria Harbour, ON

back painting

with your scruffy brush and a lighter orange set in a highlight in the noses

remember, dip slightly in paint and rub the brush against a towel or paper towels (old flannel or towels does wonders)

if you barely skim the top while setting in a shine you can see the texture of the paint under it which adds to it's interest

what I did next with a flat brush , you may not have one so what ever brush you may have
I put the upper quarter part of the brush in water, took my fingers and squeezed it so water isn't falling off the brush then set the corner of the brush in orange/red/and black and work them together (think you can see how I worked it 'down/up, down/up' a few times then squeezing the paint from the bristles except for where you worked the paint and make 'c' strokes to give nose dimention

now you could just take the brush and daps some watered down paint (mixutre of orange/red/black or if you have a dark orange it would be ok as well) tap it on the edges..would be fine..don't want you stressing

they are coming alive aren't they?

Can't have a snowman without snow..

with white or off/white (prefer white) and a liner brush work a little snow on their noses

it's cold outside

I like the snowmen, I think I will put something besides Merry Christmas, so they can stay out all winter.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Seasons Greetings, or Happy Holidays? Or maybe just welcome?

Victoria Harbour, ON

could do Debbie or just add snowflakes like the other one

I'm thinking of adding a few mini snowflakes before doing the border

maybe some of you have a stencil you could use

glad you found us Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

know you gals will customize your own mats
that's what I enjoy

trying to figure out what to do with the border..need something interesting

In my mind I can see taping it inner insert so that I don't get paint off over it and do a candycane look

what do you think?

Interesting that you are liking this one, I wasn't so sure you would

for me, add a few sprinkles of glitter and "I LOVE IT"

Lyndonville, NY

Candy can look would be great, or you could do a "blotting" to make it look like pine cones. Even thought of little red birds/cardinals.

Yes, I have been following since day one, just not commented.

Victoria Harbour, ON

you the creative one sitting quietly

I love it when people comment so I know I'm not doing the project alone

love everyones ideas

I'm just trying my best to make it simple so nobody gets overwhelmed and not want to do our 9th DG workshop lol

as always, thinking ahead

so now we are basecoating the border grey (mix white and a titch of black) if you don't have grey..

let it dry

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

did the 2 coats of red onto the grey with a roller, leaves a nice texture..

going to leave it for today and think out hat I might want to do

paint needs to dry thoroughly anyway sooooo the snowmen say 'take a break'

time to cook up some spaghetti..emailed Lisa as she e-mailed me asking if as a thank you she could take me out for supper, told her 'save your money + I have supper ready'

Very nice Betty, maybe some pine boughs or something?

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I love the first one, but I really, really love this one!!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I'm eager to see what this border will look like! My little mind is just buzzing!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm almost tempted to do nothing and let you all be creative

That way I'll be surprised. Lol

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I must admit I like this one better too!! To me, always less is more. The snowmen really stand out. I think I might just write Winter Fun!!!! Now to think of a border.

Pacifica, CA

yaaaay i got the mat yesterday thank you

now to find some free time...
