I layed out the roll of linoleum this morning and will start cutting

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I got mine too. Is the back of it already sealed?

Victoria Harbour, ON

yes, ready for you to paint

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning,

we are on our last leg of our journey, another workshop behind us, well at least for me getting the floormats done for you. I've enjoyed it as always..

Now you know me, I ramble a lot so IF there is anything you don't understand just post and we can go through it step by step!!!!

so here goes today's painting

******* See pictured post in 2 posts below..came across something. ******

1: tape again the insert as not to have unwanted paint from our next painting step

Photo 1:

decided to mark off a 3" corner (width of border)

Photo 2:

you can pick the width of the paiters tape you can use..I just used what I had

so from the corner of the 3" block you taped I ran on an angle a piece of tape then 2 more side by side

removed the middle piece and set it next to the one on the right then added a piece and pulled the middle one off again

work your way around the boarder

you will notice that right in the corners next to the 3" square it's wider than all the strips so yes I even put the 3 tape method in the corners so it would be uniform size

now that I've gone all around the edge I'll paint..might not hurt to burnish the tape..I should have used good painters tape but didn't so I will lightly paint my first coat and let dry as to seal between the tape edges

I really like that border!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I made note on the post above..ran across something that I thought I should clarify

Photo 1:

when you've marked your 3" corners and you are starting to set your tape on an angle, make with a piece of paper the corner angle you are using so each side of the floormat you are starting with the same angle

do you understand this????

Ok I'm ready for painting

Victoria Harbour, ON

gave first coat over the white

Victoria Harbour, ON

ooops

pressed send too quick lol

when painting I put a subtantial amount of paint on the brush and softly went over tape and candy cane area as not to disturb the tape , don't want to have to touch up red

EDITED

I've given mine 3 coats of white/off white and it's just not giving good coverage soooo I would advise that you make a mixture of grey and give 1st coat in the grey then the white/off white

Thanks for the heads up on putting grey down first!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just gave it 4 coats, looks pretty good, going to take tape off

Victoria Harbour, ON

****** SPECIAL NOTE ******

Think I would spend the dollars and purchase the green painters tape as I used $$$ store tape, was more than cautious when painting and still had bleeding..I'll do something to cover it but want to save you some work

going to post this in an upper thread

just in defence of the tape I had, I used a small foam roller to paint my border to it does add texture to the piece, likely why seepage (?)

Photo 1:

touched the red up a bit, took my liner and with the black paint adding a mini drop of water I made ink consistency and randomly went down the sides of the red..actually looks neat

Photo 2:

added black line to set the insert in

Photo 3:

I had a stencil with 5 or 6 snowflakes so dipped my brush in white/off white, wiped on a towel and just pounded in a few snowflakes...made a larger one almost center to show what these little snowmen were looking at.

Photo 4:

Pounced color in corner with a 'snowflake'

Now if I can find some plastic for stencil I'll try and cut you all a snowflake stencil or two and include it in the kit..will try my very best.

Photo 5:

Took my toothbrush and added some speckle of color to the piece

VOILA!!!!

My job is done..lol

Now I get to watch and admire..so glad you all decided to come join me yet another year!

sure wish you could see it in person, it's just too adorable...going to make a few more and like you all said, NO Merry Christmas

can't wait to put the fiish on (which I will see what you have available in your neck of the woods)

after 3-4 coats it just brings out the detail of the piece..

was anyone visiting with me today???

drats I'm lonely

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that came out really nice! What no sparkles on the snowflakes?

Victoria Harbour, ON

You will all have sparkles to put where you wish..limited amounts though. Lol

I thought I'd put some on the snow on the nose once I give it a coat of finish so it sticks to. It while drying

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Is your finish a spray varnish?

Victoria Harbour, ON

No, brush on

I will give you's some options

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ok

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, I mailed my money on Oct 9th, I know you said it takes a while for the mail from the States to get there but I am getting worried. How much more time should I give the Post before I send you another payment? Can I send a check?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not necessary Terri, it came today..what a beautiful card And note

So love having newcomers...just don't forget to ask questions if I'm not clear in my instructions

When one does something often one tends to forget some of the steps it we usually make it through the workshops with some treasures at the end

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Whew! I'm so glad.. I didn't want you to think I was a piker, LOL!

I've read the steps but I'm better at thinking of questions as I'm actually doing the thing so hopefully by the time I start the project everyone else will have asked them and been answered already.

I have to check my paints to see if I need to buy any; these past few weeks have been crazy busy since DH has been called in to work to cover for someone out on medical leave. Instead of him taking care of things during the weekdays, we both have to scramble on the weekends to get things done.

The poor chickens will have to be satisfied with their leaky little coop for a few more weeks unless we manage to find extra time and energy this weekend!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Terri, I'm sure you will define..ended up usinganentirelgbottle of red that iboughtfrom $$$store..think sometimes there isn't as much pigment in those but for this project it's fine.

The young woman who has been staying here (2more days then I get my home back) saw them and just oooh'd and awww'd at them..she loved the snowman faces and holly, I'm leaning toward the 2nd one. Lol

Poor chickies, cold weather is a coming. Lol. Maybe they will stop laying, encouragement to get energetic and finish your project.

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Haha Betty, if it was MY project, it would be done but DH has this plan in his head for the coop and I am just the gofer when the project is going.

My job is basically to hold the various parts in place so he can put fasteners in and I'm sure I will be allowed to choose and apply the paint but looking at the coop now, I have no idea where he's going with it! It's basically a box with fencing under 2 long walls right now. I have no idea where the windows, doors or access in and out for the chickens will be.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Then if it doesn't go well you won't get the what for as you didn't know the construction design. Lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sorry you were alone for a long spell today Betty. I had to stop at store and get new Stud finder, bolt down dinner and now I leave for some private counseling I'm doing.

Ocean Springs, MS

Betty, I bought some cheap rubber foam Christmas mats at the dollar store. Gonna try practicing on one of these until I get my package from you. Need to get some Painter's tape!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure foam would work, if I may suggest bristle board from $$ store, just a tad larger than your insert

Was thinking this morning if I get the kits together tomorrow, our post office doesn't do mailings Sat so would mean going out n the Monday then customs

Sooooo

Would you mind if I waited until next Saturday and post on USA side? Always find it only takes a few days from there

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, whatever is easiest for you to do, is fine by me

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well it's just if I post from here and they go through customs and rerouting you'd get them sooner

Am sure all are ok with that

Just finished tracing the patterns

Going to take a ride to Michaels so I get get uncut stencil sheets this aft

Sunshine, nice day for a ride

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

As a Customs broker, I'm all for avoiding any type of Customs issues, so even more in agreement with your idea!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm good with that Betty!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks, makes life easier for me and still leaves plenty of time to get them done

Lyndonville, NY

I was at Michaels the other day and saw these cute little Christmas stamps. I might use one of them to go around the border because my "free hand" skills haven't been the best lately. My stead hand has gone out the window. :/

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

That's a good idea Debbie.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well I went to Michaels and bought stencil sheeting, traced and later I will look for my electric stencil cutter and cut later

Also bought graphite

Sooo we are all set

Ocean Springs, MS

Decided not to tey them, Betty! Don't want to waste the sealer! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

I was going to say that all that spent energy you'd be able to get the real one done and I'm sure no practice is necessary.

Found my stencil burner..got 2 sets of snowflakes done

10 more to go

I'll do one here and there..not as good as store bought stencils but they will do the trick on your floormat

Debbie, when going through one of my boxes of goodies I found quite a few of them, not going to use them as the ones I have don't match the design

Victoria Harbour, ON

back to do another stencil..had thought do one here and there but you know me
shaking my head

here Debbie are a few of the stamps I had
