As of right now they are in top 3 with only 1 minute between place 1' place 2 abd place 3
They have to use strategy right now, they can try to drive until late tonight with no sleep and spend 16 hr mandatory layover or they can stop midway, spend 8 hrs at the next 2 layovers..hard to divide the 16 hrs in half I think, what if your body tightens up.
Greg is with the magazine photographer/writer today and tomorrow. While being on watch and providing gas
Team 7 just want to be able to say they completed the endurance race, if they do they will move on to other adventures.
I will make sure I invite Greg for supper one night next week to hear about the adventures and look at photo's
Breaking news warning.. Article freeze next 2 days
Why on earth would someone want to do this is beyond me
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends old &new
I don't understand. What does that mean?
Not sure what you are asking Joyce..
two more teams got scratched
my update just said a snowmobiler was inured in sled/vehicle accident crossing highway and sent by air ambulance to hospital..not life threatening they don't think
so teams are getting more scarce
Cain's Quest News Release:
CAIN’S QUEST REPORTS INJURY TO RACER IN CARTWRIGHT, NL
Labrador City, NL, March 4, 2014 – There was collision between Cain’s Quest racer Lloyd Rex Rich (Team #30 Manteu from Natuashish, NL) while on his snowmobile and a motor vehicle on a road in Cartwright, Checkpoint #8 on the 3,300 route through Labrador. At this time, we are told there are no life-threatening injur...ies. The racer is in stable condition and is being airlifted to Happy Valley-Goose Bay for further examination.
This means a scratch for Team 30.
“We are out for 2014,” said John Nui, Lloyd’s racing partner. “Lloyd’s okay though. He still smiles every now and then.”
Cain’s Quest is the world’s toughest and longest snowmobile endurance race. It is an incredible off-trail riding adventure where teams of two battle in an all-out race through deep snow and thick wooded areas in some of the most remote parts of Labrador. The race is managed by Cain’s Quest Inc., a volunteer-run, non-profit organization
Update:
Team 7 leading the pack into North West River (Checkpoint 10) with 73, 5, 99 and 17 close behind.
Sorry about the accident, glad it was not serious.
Breaking news article freeze next two days....what does that mean?
YAY!!! Go Team 7! This is fun watching them on the Cains Quest site.
Arctic freeze I believe?
Yep you got it..darn iPad and it's lingo
Just got an update
We are all in Northwest River at the checkpoint, and the guys are taking an un- mandatory rest for a few hours. Everything is good, at this point they are tied for first. They haven't used the skirts you made yet as they haven't needed them. I left them up in Makkovik for the stretch where the snow is hard. Keep you posted
Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone on the Rogers network.
Went to the site, but couldn't find Greg's name, but, had a look at the other teams and poked around the page (s) .. looks like a brutal course, endurance is certainly what it's all about ..
Wish'em all the best ..
Sunny and WARMER here .. snow is melting a bit, so, didn't get the car washed .. maybe tomorrow .. Lorna will be in town to have her prosthesis adjusted, AGAIN !! Going with her this time to see if I can get anywhere with Kerry (the prosthetist) .. the guy is the only 'show' for approx 2,000 miles, so, we sure don't want to 'tick him off' .. he wears a prosthetic leg as well .. has for several years .. but, he just can't seem to get Lorna's right for some reason .. very frustrating, she wants to walk UNAIDED, but is afraid the leg will come off, despite the fact she wears a neoprene belt to hold it up ... we are constantly trying to REdesign the belt with lighter material, especially in the summer, neoprene is a bit uncomfortable to wear on hot humid days!
Gonna go back to the 'Cain's Quest' site .. kinda neat to look at ..

"M" Greg is sledding but he is the support system for team 7
They are resting for a few hours, unscheduled but needed the rest.
There was a site letting us know where he as but it's down right now
Someone here said, well he is not racing, not one of the 2...nope. But the racing team can't go far without food/gas/oil and parts can they?
The 'support people' make the race a winning race ..
He's still out there in the elements shadowing the 2 contenders.
I keep thinking about it, and then I try not to! No wonder you have a headache ..
That said, they are being well watched ..
Supper is done, waiting for Corrie, then NCIS a bit later ..
I'll likely be asleep by 7:30pm LOL
Hope everyone is well and warm
~M~
Beat you to bed "M". 5:45. Watching Castle rer run
Had full intentions of playing downstairs but. Head says not tonight
Feel badly for Lorna, is there usually that many adjustments or is it just a bad fit?
Watched CASTLE as well .. at first I didn't like the show, but, it has grown on me :-)
Lorna is 'fed up' with her prosthetist .. he promises the world, but, never comes through.
She just wants to be able to walk without a walker or 2 canes, but, artificial leg just keeps needing adjustments .. been FOUR years now since she was fitted ..
I sure hope he's 'on his game' today.
Also found out yesterday that her Dad has an 'abdominal aortic aneurysm', common (ish) in the over 80 group, but a worry .. along with his broken back, well, Lorna is fretting.
I do think we will be travelling east even though her parents are adamant that they are coming here. Sure hope my hip is travel worthy, I fer sure know there will HAVE to be frequent stops, it'll take us 2 days to get there ... 650mi a day ..
Guess we'll see ..
Snow expected here, but, it's up to -25C..
Hope everyone has a great day !
~M~
That is a long trip! Where do they live?
Wow "M"
When are you thinking of doing the trip, won't be far from me
Watch if it isn't the week I'm n Florida
Drats, as I said I was in bed early, deep sleep, forgot to bring the hand phone it, realized I had a birthday call from Steve and Judy..thankfully I listened to it this morning or I'd not have slept last night.
-18 this a.m., might be getting some white stuff
Lordy, clocks change this weekend, must buy batteries for fire alarms as I always change them at same time..ohh must get out and buy carbonmonixide unit, law now and I didn't do it
LindaK .. Our home is north and west of Lorna's folks down by Betty .. actually about ? 100 ? miles south and east of Betty just above Toronto. They live in a town called King City.
The biggest thing to think about is weather at this time of the year ..
We would fly down, but I just hate not having a car, and, Lorna travels WITH equipment ..
She would need, her walker, canes and wheelchair, so, easier to just either take my car, or, her truck ..
Lotsa thinking going on ^_^
The trip to see the prosthetist was good (ish) .. if Lorna wants the Otto Bock 'C' leg .. it will cost her .. are ya sittin down ? $70,000.00 !!!!!!
If ANYONE ever deserved that leg (it's computerized), it's Lorna .. she has worked her hiney off since her amputation, she's an inspiration .. nothing gets her down ..
I am thinking of writing various Service Organizations to see if they might spring for half the cost .. you never know ..
Betty, we remain COLD .. no reprieve from that damnable wind from the north ..
Snow is to start tomorrow ..
The SPRING ahead time change really sucker punches me for some reason, takes me about 3 days to adjust .. the FALL behind is not a problem .. weird huh ..
Am on the RECIPE forum, have been looking for, and found, a recipe for ANZAC cookies .. so easy to make, but, I am still in the 'tweaking' stages.
The recipe is from New Zealand/Australia .. no eggs or dairy (other than butter)
ANyway, I made a batch .. better than the last batch ..
Best get started with supper, spaghetti sounds good to me ^_^
Toodles
~M~
Hard to believe they charge so much for artificial limbs! They should be ashamed of themselves!
Susan where you at? Any luck on the job hunting?
Omg "M"' hard to believe the cost, who could possibly afford one. You may be on the right track re service clubs..big sigh, yes she sure does deserve it'.
I'm having spaghetti tonight as well, had it last night and likely tomorrow night. I really should freeze in smaller zip lock bags.
I'd think I'm about 80 miles from Lorna's mom and dad. Still contemplating coming south? Imagine me saying south in relation from my house to yours. When did Lorna's dad break his back, was that when he did all the shovelling at beginning of year?
LindaKay you all rested up now that Dylan is back home?
Got a couple emails from Greg today, most are taking their 16 hr mandatory rest, thus looks like team 7 doing poorly but not..soon they will be able to say homeward bound.
3 more teams scratched.
I did sew for a bit, could have done 2 pieces but said what to heck, rest.
Betty I missed your Birthday. Sorry. Hope it was a good one.
Hope you are remembering your meds. & starting to feel better.
Oh man, I slept so good last night. But am coming down with another cold that is kicking my butt. Loading up in vitamins and vitamin c.
thanks Thunder!!!
LindaKay, everyone in town are either down with cold/flu or fighting it! Change in the weather right..
going to fill the tub, had chicken fingers/fries for lunch, don't think I need spaghetti tonight so will skip supper.
Been in bed before 6pm last several nights so going to try my best to stay up past 8..imagine
did sew for a bit today, found a pattern at the quilt shop that was simple, have everything to do a 2nd one then I'll quilt them.
Betty - a reminder that the program you wanted to watch starts THIS coming Sunday. It is Resurrection isn't it?
I love that top!!!!
Ohhh will have to mark my calendar, saw an advertisement just the other day which was different than the prior one, also I believe it's not just the little boy that comes back, series is on many who return..wouldn't it be nice to think it possible
Norm and I are waiting for it too. I think it caught everyone's attention!
Betty that quilt is beautiful.
Just a throw Thunder..will appliqué stitch the holly/berries and do some gold veins stitching in the holly..
Barb, few good programs coming up, just not sure why they have to be late at night and this one on Sunday night.
Ahhh finally caught up. Belated Happy Birthday Betty.
Well we got our precious little girl, but the Dr. bobbled it seriously. He did an ultra-sound on Mon. and said she was growing fine so he would keep the 1st. What he didn't pay attention to was her position, she was way high and no way was she in birth position. This should have told him it was too early. Her size was good 5lb. 2 oz., 18 " long. He had to pry her out she was so high, this stressed her. She wasn't breathing well, so was put on oxygen, she has pneumonia and another infection. Then she became jaundiced, which was the very least of her problems. They attempted a spinal tap twice and gave up on it, trying to find out what infection she has. We didn't get to see her face until the 3rd. The oxygen mask had her face nearly all covered. My DGD was sobbing terribly when I arrived on Mon. as they just called and told her the baby was jaundiced, without explaining what it meant, and they were preparing to do the spinal tap. I immediately took her to the NICU explaining on the way about jaundice. We talked to them a bit. then had to leave for the waiting room. After an hour the Dr. came out, it was his first day on rotation but he's very good and will be caring for her the rest of her stay. He very carefully explained every thing to my DGD and answered all her questions. He also said he was taking her off the oxygen so we could finally see her and DGD could hold her a bit before she was put under the light. By today they had IDed the infection and it is clearing up, she is now able to eat and they will be removing the feeding tube. Dr. is optimistic she might be able to go home on Sat. As soon as mommy was holding her, she snugged right down and was so content. Her name is Rebecca Grace Anne. for her grandmother, my daughter, who was named for my great grandmother. I'm so very happy the name is being carried on.
1. Birthday, 2. learning to suck, 3.All of her, 4. with daddy, first bottle 3-5-2014
Morning,
Coming back to read Karen, but I did take time to oohh and ahhh at Rebecca 's beauty..congratulations. Be back in an hour
Joyce, not much about Cains Quest and team 7..might be sleep time!
Greg just emailed me update
There was a section of the race that there was a discrepancy with whether it was a groomed trail, the question was asked at the drivers meeting. And the teams were told they could use this section, yet team 5 got to the same trail, they called officials by sat phone. And we're told by someone other than Race Marshall not to use. So because of the confusion, they took 67 minutes off there time. But that was yesterday morning. The problems now are do they have enough time to finish the race by Saturday!!! The officials have decided to change race due to weather, and safety of riders in sections that can't be accessed (checkpoint officials can't get to checkpoints).... so now the change is once they do there 16 hour mandatory layover in Nain, they will go back to Hopedale, then back to Postville, then Goose Bay, before heading back to Churchill Falls which is one of original course, and then onto finish
Love Greg
OHMIGOSH Karen, what a beautiful wee baby! She is just too precious, so sorry to hear about all the stress around the birth, but, look at her now .. NO stopping her ..
CONGRATS a plenty !
Lordie Betty ..confusion must be hard to deal with when Greg and team are under time constraints .. hope all works out for them in the end, and, that the race finishes on Saturday.
UNBELIEVABLY we have a lovely day so far, it's 10F ABOVE zero .. snow is expected, but, really who cares when the temps are mild, bring it on, because, it should be one of the LAST storms of winter 2014 !
Off to the gym, then fishing at Safeway for supper LoL
Take care everyone
Toodles
~M~
M I think you are being very optimistic about this being one of the last snow storms of the season.My sweet dad did his fishing in the fish store too!! Hope you do write to some places to get some fund raising for Lorna. There is a Para Olympic snowboarder who is doing DWTS. They are making her "dancing" legs but she already has her walking legs and her snowboarding legs. Hate to think of what that all cost if Lorna's dream is $70,000.
Betty how's the headache? Greg's a good son to keep his mama in the loop.
Karen what a sweet lovely babe. Frightening for the new parents to be faced with so much. Very glad you were able to be such a support.
Healing well, but wouldn't you know I had a dizzy spell. Haven't had 1 of those for months. Thanks for the tip about the pillow M it really helps. Still moving slowly but at least I am moving. Bored silly though.... have been going through books like crazy. Pups have cabin fever but are handling it well.
Did that cold set in LK? Hope you are feeling better.
Mary the pups got the last of their Louisiana treats yesterday.... they say THANK YOU!!!
~~~~ing to everyone.
Dianne
I do hope Lorna gets her leg. My dearest friend was on medicaid when she lost her leg to complications of diabetes. The leg supplied to her was horrid and for the most part useless because it kept falling off. It wasn't for several years that she got a decent leg, by that time she didn't have the trust in it to try and died shortly after.
Dianne I sure hope you have a speedy recovery, keep hugging that pillow.
Thanks for the good wishes, our little love Becka is making great strides now.
Moved us over...
Cold is settling into my chest, I am going to the urgent care today, as my Dr. office can't get me in till 3 weeks from now.
Glad to hear your starting to feel better.
Betty, don't forget to take your blood pressure pills today!
