So glad you are following it Barb..let's hope our team doesn't get scrapped, 2 have done so so far, one due to engine fire..how disappointing for them. There is also an app as the day progresses to show you the little snowmobile icons and how they fall as to placing..you touch the snowmobile icons and it says what team they are..with 8 hour layover they likely won't be moving until after 1:00 I would think
Thanks you all for well wishes

Betty, can you post that link again?
Sending birthday wishes from Florida. It is your day so do what make you the happiest but do make sure you enjoy it!!!
Happy birthday, Betty, from Mexico. hugs, katie
LK I just Googled Cain's Quest.
Thanks Debbie..
We're you able to get it LindaKay..
http://cainsquest.com/map/. Is the link where machines are..click on snow machine and it will tell you which team
Greg just sent me update (keeping true to his promise seeng as I worry)
Hope you don't mind the play by play
We are just getting ready to leave for a long day of breaking trail up the coast!!! Kirk/ Dave got to checkpoint at 5:00 am, and can't leave checkpoint until 1:00 PM (1 hour time difference ahead here) so we won't see them before we leave. FYI one teams sled burnt to the ground at start line, and two team lost their sleds through the ice.and several teams haven't even got to checkpoint yet. Don't know if I will have wifi for a day or so. I will keep you posted.
Love Greg
Was pleasantly surprised, Jeff just dropped in..off course I got 'told you mom I would be here to wish you happy birthday while Greg is gone and enjoying himself, then he started to laugh..brat!
It's been a good morning, lots of calls from family friends, no wonder I don't want to go out....grin

Thanks Betty.
Sending gentle hugs to Dianne today. Sure hope you have a pillow to press when you try to move Dianne. That is what they gave Norm when he had his lung operated on and it was a big help. He named it Louie the Lung. It was shaped like a horseshoe and went around front and back. It does help and I sure do understand about the recliner being the place of choice. It is so much easier and less painful to move from.
My Dad had a pillow when he had his by-pass operation and boy NO ONE better try taking that away!
What's the team were rooting for? Don't want to cheer on the wrong one!
Team 7..starting to fret, can't seem to locate thir snowmobile
Of course head is pounding, one would think I'd see four of them with blurred vision
dahh
called Melanie, she told me to go on teams 30, click on #7 and it would show me exactly where the boys are. Glad they are still in the run..long hard day for all of them.
minute I get moving I'm nauseated, will try my best to go for supper and right back home, am sure Mel won't be upset by it.
I made it through supper but that is about it! Topic of conversation was Greg's adventures, did learn more, Mel gave me a link to follow Greg, he left early am and still has a few hours to get to his destination..he was put on a team with a man who lives in Labrador, the are permitted to take the trail system..they are quite a bit north of team 7. Now I can follow him..funny to see his satellite beacon moving.
Feel sorry about the 2 teams that are, we're in first place, they jiggled when they should have jagged and missed a check point..don't think they have noticed yet, when they do they have to backtrack.
So it's been quite a day
Waving to all and again thanks for well wishes
Happy Birthday To You

Morning all,
Slept fairly well, up with headache though..took readings and got 164-104 and pulse 66 so could be the reason..better than yesterday though.
Thank you Mary and Deb for the birthday wishes..
Mary so thinking of you, MardiGras in New Orleans..want to be there..did you get to go to the parade?? Pancake Tuesday tomorrow..least I can do is celebrate the festivities by ordering McDonald pancakes lol
What have you been up to Deb?
LindaKay you are always on top of things, keeping us well informed..
no can send bulbs/seeds etc so have to stick to such things as birdfeeders and windchimes.
Lordy, woke a few times to check on Team 7, they sure put a gruelling day in, left late morning and didn't get to the required last check in where they have to spend 8 hrs. until this morning..I can't even image how hard it is on their bodies. 5 machines out of the running as of now, how disappointing it must be. One team said they had every part except one little part and that put them out..another said it would take hours/hours to repair a machine so they'd never make it up, might as well get out of the race. See a winter warning for the region is posted, thought you couldn't get storms when it's so cold, perhaps it's wind..will be watching that for sure.I'd just worry about the helicopter not being able to watch over them, know they have gps but still, nice knowing someone is just above watching other than our Lord.
Staying quiet, looked at the pattern I had cut on Saturday morning, just looking, not sure I'm in for sewing. Want to take a quick ride in to the sewing shop to pick up my new ruler..might do that in a bit, see if it was worth purchasing.
what are you all up to today?
Nothing new been going on here. Just been holed up at home, if I'm not at work.
I've been studying pedigrees, and getting health tests done, so when Sissy comes in season, I can get her bred. It's been 5 years since puppies, I think I'm ready!
I can't imagine that race through Labrador. I bet the scenery is really gorgeous, but probably hard to appreciate when it's that cold, and they're pushing themselves so hard.
Start of another work week, I supposed I best be productive.
Deb
Deb, quite the undertaking breeding, wish you luck
Problems with Sharon's last breeding, last 3 actually..not because same dogs or lack of care or vet care, not sure what problem is
For those not interested just jump over the bantering
On main home page is a yellow adv for yellowbrick, when you click on it it gives a colorful page and on the side of team page it has icons for tems and leader board..also when you click on team balloons it gives the speed they are travelling, position, winds etc
Betty, have you been taking y our blood pressure meds? Maybe they are not working good enough, go see your Dr. for upgrade if need be! Blood pressure is nothing to mess around with! Are you at home today?
I still have Dylan and he can be a handful. He will be going home this afternoon! I sure enjoyed my Grandma time!
Did call doctor re meds..can't get in for a week the receptionist said but she will try and have him write me a prescription..I'm to call back at 1pm
No I'm in Barrie, have a few things that need done.
Speaking of Sharon's dog, what is happening with this pregnancy with one of the pups already dead?
What kind of dog do you have, Deb?
Hang in there, Mary, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!!
It's 13 out and we got maybe 4 inches of snow all together. That's way better than they were predicting, so I'll take it!
Garden club is tomorrow night and we're doing Kokedama. It's a moss covered plant holder. Should be fun, we have 19 registered to come with some of us eating pizza before hand. I'm bringing 4 guests. Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes!
I just spent a bunch of time at Cains Quest. I thought it was two guys on one snowmobile. Didn't realize that each team was two snowmobiles. Looks cold and FUN!
I have afghan hounds. My last litter was almost 5 years ago, so I'm really excited at the idea of pups. I still have to work out the logistics, the stud dog I want to use is in Orlando, so may be doing a road trip in the next month or two.
I wish our local garden club would do things in the evening. They assume everyone interested in gardening is home during the day. I donate plants to their annual sale, but that's all I can do to participate.
That is a beautiful dog!
Joyce learn it well, might be something you can make a trip to my house to teach the girls again lol
Sharon is away for a bit, will get update from her when she gets home..
Deb what a gorgeous dog, omg looks like a lot of grooming goes into the upkeep.
Deb same here, all quilting classes are done in the daytime then they wonder why they don't do well, hellllloooo those who work have $$$ to join but no time during the week.
LindaKay, picked up the ruler, yes, was the same one as you posted..got 15% discount so much the same as your listed price.
Tried hers, liked it!
Kyle dropped in, went to lunch, got back and Dr's office had called, sent prescription to town pharmacy so I'll pick up meds required..have to see him in 3 weeks.
Paul was connecting a new computer tower, asked me what my plans were for the mouse, thought he meant electronic mouse on my counter, nope there was a mouse dead with legs standing straight out, thank goodness I didn't think a piece of fabric had fallen to the floor and I gone to pick it up, am sure you would have heard me from here..
Tony is back. Hooray. I'm tired. We went to town. Didn't do much but it doesn't seem to take much.
I paid Tony for last week and he was completely surprised. And pleased. I said how much it means to mean that I can depend on him and he thanked me. It surprises me how his dependability has been taken for granted by other employers. And his honesty. And his intelligence.
But week before last a rat got caught in a trap on the kitchen counter and he left it for me to find when I came out for coffee. Lucky for him I'm not squeemish but I made him dispose of the corpse.
Told him about the thefts and he said a car was stoeln near where he lives. Maybe a gang of thieves in town.
Dianne, are you resting a lot? Do I have to come up there and spank you for being careless?
hugs, katie
Yes Joyce ! I love that saying...
Hope it was a Wonderful bday Betty....
Hugs
Mary
Early morning, light headed and can't sleep..
Checked on team 7' read the news release for yesterday, said they and a few others took a chance by taking lake trail, did find an opening and made gained time.
Another team scratched due to health reason, frozen hand..be glad when this is over, likely why I'm worried!
With a weather warning issued for today no wonder my blood pressure is up..moms
This is part of this mornings update
MAR 4th
Cain’s Quest Day 3 News
"We had our first report of a scratch due to medical circumstances. Luc Bourgault of Team #14 LM2S Racing Team reported frost bite on both hands. Emergency response was dispatched from Happy Valley-Goose Bay and also from Birchy Lake. They were transported to the hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and are doing well. Bergeron explained, “I stayed at the machine to start removing parts but in trying to light a fire I froze two fingers and 4 more trying again! Team 6 support crew…. stopped to help me…but the fire went out until Shawn Adams from team 6 stopped. He saw how frozen I was and started a good fire… We are really sad today because we do not like giving up like that but we will be back for the next race don’t worry!”
Team #7 and Team #17 overtook the wide lead from team #5 and #99 as a gamble to take the sea ice appeared to have helped for some time, but was blocked approximately 10 km from Cartwright, forcing the two teams to take a northern route. Other teams attempted the inland route only to find areas impassable and veered off course to follow Team #5’s track on the sea ice. Teams #7, #17 and #73 found an opening through the inland area however and were able to capture top position on the leader board with #5 and #99.
Racers will express through Cartwright and continue onto Rigolet, North West River, and then it will be an interesting game of strategy as they are on route into the four flexible layover checkpoints: Postville, Makkovik, Hopedale, and Natuashish. Eight hours of layover time can be split between the checkpoints, or racers can combine their eight with another eight in Nain for a total of 16 hours before leaving the North Coast of Labrador."
Sea water??? Omg, chances being taken
Katie, glad that Tony is back on the job..am sure he is overwhelmed by your kindness..is this the first time he has been away for a week? Did he find his family well?
How's the battle going Dianne, improving daily?
LindaKay, bet you will sleep in this morning, well deserved rest...Dylan is at the age he needs your full attention..his being able to play outside was a bonus..how are your dad and sister?
Will try this sleep thing

No sleep for sure
Decided to check emails...one came in from Greg last night at 11pm
He writes
Well it's been an interesting day, Chad wasn't feeling well this morning (dehydrated) so we didn't leave until 9:30am. It was another 2 hour ride from Postville to Makkovik. We mixed our 12 cans of fuel for the teams, started home around 1:00 pm, when his sled broke down!!! We got him back to Makkovik, and Perry (one of the locals) got him a flight back to Goose Bay. Which now left me with a 320 km ride through the most isolated and barren land alone at 2:30... ouch it's an 8 hour ride at -39 alone with no phone for help
Drats and more drats, won't sleep till I hear he is ok
Just got another email
Feelinga tad better
"It's all good, I stayed in Goose Bay last night, and I will be driving in the truck for a day or two with Snowgoer Magazine, and will be following Penny & Jerry. We will be following the race by road to give them gas as its much easier at this point in the ride
Love Greg"
on a lighter note,
girls come to paint today, setting aside sewing for a bit they are..
2 are doing lighthouses and 2 wooden cookbook covers, reminds me I have 2 ready to paint so I can give the boys and their family recipe's passed on through generations
will have to get my paints out and start, take a break as well
got a new toy yesterday, should make cutting fabric a lot easier on the hands
Please let us know how the new ruler/cutter works out Betty. How wide is it?
Love the lighthouses and the cookbook covers are going to be great.....
Did try it a few times Barb, you put weight on the cutter and it easily slices through the fabric, what is nice is it uses same blades and easy to change
Ruler is longer than a normal one 27 1/2 I believe but not as wide but that is ok you just line fabric with cutting board
I believe that is the same ruler I posted the link for at Nancy's notions. Hope you got it for a good price? Glad it works for you!
Sending prayers for safe journeys for all those guys in the race!
Love those lighthouses too!
Meant to add, my Sis is doing OK, she still has to walk with a walker. Dad is not doing good, he has another open sore on a toe, next to the one he lost last year. They are keeping an eye on it, but he may have to have surgery to remove at least that toe. He is not too happy!
Oh no LindaKay, yikes, a toe at a time..he had such a time of it in the healing process after the operation
$68.00 after the 15% discount.
Know it's cheaper on-line but sometimes once you pay shipping and waiting for it, it's not worth the $10 savings.
((((Lindakay))). Hope all goes well with your Dad.
So, Betty, I was excited that team 7 was with the leaders now, but does Greg's email say that they aren't now? I am confused.
Oh, meant to say that I belong to two garden clubs. One meets at night time and one meets in the day time. I love them both.
