Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends new/old

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - does Who sell What things? The boxes I'm gluing have nothing to do with Bob, if that's what you're thinking...... these are from a box-making company that our friend works at - she got us the out-source work, and now that Bob's working, it's only me - except he folds them in the evening, and counts them out in lots of 20.

temp is minus 1 Celcius!

chatting with a friend in Atlanta, GA... her parents (just out of the city) got 12 inches of snow, and power out! Good thing they have a generator. I think of Sharon, without power, over Christmas, Betty - that was harsh......
My friend's company is having "snow days" - closed down. But, temps are 35F now and everything's melting! yaaay

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is what I asked..what does the company you are dng therefor sell in them??

Glad most of those n the storm regions are taking snow/ice days..alone the claims on insurance would be big savings

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Whack, whamo, splat!!!
10 INCHES of snow expected here by tomorrow morning.
Have tried to 'EMBRACE' this winter, but, right now I think I have visions of kicking it in the butt and over the hills LoL
ONE good thing, it's warmer .. 10F
Lorna is out in her ATV plowing away .. Gord and I will shovel the patio later, unless of course it's too deep, then he'll use the snowblower.

LOVE the woodstove, HATE the mess of it .. but, you have to weigh the good with the bad .. we have a little kinda 'hole' in the bottom of the firebox, as the ash builds up, you can pull a handle on the outside and the hole opens and you get rid of some of the ash .. it drops into a drawer thingy under the woodstove, you pull that out and take the ashes out
But, like every house, when ya putz with the fire with the door open, that insidious 'ash dust' floats up into the air, and onto the furniture, curtains etc.
Still in all, I would be unhappy without it .. ours has been lit since the end of Oct.

Fish for supper, and fries, best get at fixin it up

~M~.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

We are having fish too "M"! Fish and salad... We can both munch as we watch the snow fall!!! It is the heavy wet stuff this time here. About 6" so far and supposed to continue for a while yet.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm reading about your snow very quietly, cause I don't want our weather to think it has to keep up with the Jone's!! We got up to 34 with sun today. May get a little tomorrow, but doesn't sound like too much. Knock on wood!

Verona, ON

LOL Joyce! You made me laugh right out loud.

Hi everyone,

My poker program went nuts on Sunday. After numerous emails with the company I finally got it fixed. I wonder how many of their repair helpers had breakdowns trying to communicate computer stuff to me.

Tony did not recognize the snake i killed and I couldn't find it on snake ID sites. Tony says he's seen similar snakes before. I think it was his wife Fely who told me they were danger ous but we agreed she might think that all snakes are dangerous. Anyway, the one I killed isn't dangerous. lol.

Reading about hugelkultur. In many ways like what we are doing here. Wish I had some energy to do more than read a bit.

Waiting on the Dunn ("Loud music" killing) verdict.

hugs, katie

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning. Where is everybody? Still snowing here with some sleet thrown in for good measure. What a mess!!!!

Snow is done here Betty, now, it's just the clean up.
Lorna was out in her ATV at 7am clearing the driveways in the area that she does
Schools remain opened and rural school buses are running, doubtless some people may keep their kids home, even if it's just to help with snow removal.

HOME DAY today .. going out everyday has left me with lots of 'stuff' to keep me busy here.

Take care everyone

~M~

PS, Katie, Lorna plays online poker as well, I'll have to ask her her 'name' :-)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Happy Valentines day everyone

Sitting here having Tim Horton's coffee and Valentine Day treats, yummy!!!

Not snowing here although they say in the city it is, let's hope it stays away for my Buffalo adventure..been checking Joann's, big sales..that's good and bad news..good is I'll save $$ and the bad is I'll spend more $$ than I wanted to lol

Barb, not good news, hoping Norm has another 'stay home' day..wouldn't it be nice to have your sweetie home for Valentines Day.

Katie, I'm so laughing, I'm sure Rogers Communications feel the same with me..totally not computer knowledgeable, must drive them bonkers! when is the next tournament?

"M" the kids sure have had snow days this year..heard on the news yesterday because of it many are cancelling 'parent/teacher' days.

Linda Kay thanks for the lovely 'Valentines Card' my first!

Glenview, IL

Good morining and Happy Vakentines day!!
LOVE and Armwraps for all.

Barbara!! Omg love your blocks!! In that first one what beautiful fabric with
The scissor imprint...very pretty.
such an ear to ear grin this morning, as I just realized the yor block board is from me!!!
So glad you really use it. Smiling some more!

Awe Thunder so happy you can use those socks now...lol now it can get warm again.

Betty and Debbie have a great visit. BE safe on the roads...and please
Armwrap each other up for us!

Omg...im sick again!! This crud is the pits.

Lol thanks about Breenie, not sure she will be a sewer like me but she has good enthusiasm for her project! Think we will head to Joannes for complimentary materials...she needs to expand it some more. I do the figuring later today.

Update...jake no longer working!

Dianne...oh, man keeping you fire going sounds mighty tediuos. Ok so do you use the ash in the gardens?? M,we have a wood stove like that up North...just take out the drawer and empty.lol Dianne the kettle filling is my job. We have a ery old tea kettle we fill with water for the stve.

Well, we are getting a bit "itchy" to head up to the cottage...not sure when we will go though.

Off to do morningroutine!
See you in a bit.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Couldn't hold me back, I went out and shoveled along the dog runs, fed the Blue Jays their peanuts and the Chickadees their seeds ..
It's 'nippy' out, but what a beautiful SUN in the sky , makes the snow sparkle like diamonds ..
I'll take a few pics, I'm sure NO ONE knows what SNOW looks like, NOT!!!
Just that it's so 'pristine' out there now, all the yellow roses are covered up ..

Parent/teacher interviews were done here last night, but, were cancelled .. I think Brooklyn was HAPPY about that ^_^

Computers, ugg .. have had one in the house for close to 20 years .. and, even though I am self taught (in other words I learn from others mistakes) I still find myself doing the Ctrl/Alt/Delete maneuvre a lot of times ..
Lorna was mentioning that her cursor is making - - - - - - - across her page as she moves it, so, looks like we'll have to sort that out, always pray a RE BOOT solves the problem !

Gord went to the class this morning .. doubt many will show. Felt bad for him, it's quite the zoo here some mornings .. dogs want out, cat wants feeding, and I am usually up to do that, but, because Gord has his Friday routine, I will lay in bed til I know he has his breakfast made .. Well this morning all was different because of the snowfall, the dogs were laying with me and wouldn't move til I did .. so, out we went into the kitchen, Gord was just finishing up cooking his poached egg .. I let the dogs out, loaded a coffee into the Keurig, and headed back to let the dogs IN .. just at that time I heard Gord swear ? Looked back, here the poached egg had fallen from it's steamer cup onto the floor .. what a mess .. he was NOT happy, and neither were the dogs !! I helped him clean up the mess, as much as I could (which isn't much yet) and, here comes Lorna in her wheelchair, she had no idea what had happened, so, she let the 2 snowy dogs in ,, so, here we all were in the kitchen trying to avoid the yolk LoL
I'm laffin now, but, jeeze, at the time it was just awful !!

Think I'll pop another coffee on .. WAS watching the Olympics, but am not a big fan of the Aerial gymnastic jumping .. seems almost as dangerous as the Luge !!
Hate seeing young people injure themselves ...

Again ... HAPPY HEARTS DAY

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Judy, sorry to hear your sick again. What happened to Jake's job?

Sorry to hear about the dropped egg's "M".

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Not much worse than eggs for a mess.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Went out and took some pics just in the dog compound.
Wished the Blue Jays would have flown in onto their feeder, some other day perhaps ..

Lorna is at her HAPPIEST either plowing snow or cutting grass ^_^
I think it shows in the pics of her .. hard to imagine she has a full left leg prosthesis.
Course Lilly and Piper pretty much go wherever I go .. love'em to bits ..

Judy, hope you feel well soon ..

Here's some pics ..

sorry to hear you are unwell again Judy, seems the flu like symptoms and flu just linger on..no sooner rid of it that it comes back!
ahhh what happened with Jake and the job?? is he disappointed??
wait till Breenie gets into your stash and you will see her get very enthusiastic.Maybe Steve will come home today and say 'pack up the bags Judy, we are off for a long weekend' any chance of that.

I've a full day for sewing, have 4 tote bags cut out ready to sew and I'll be lucky if I've enough batting to complete one, wearing sad face at that, was all gung ho..oh well, know what I'm buying tomorrow at Joann's.

Kids "M", don't think it's upsetting to them having parent/teach meetings cancelled nor the buses lol ...we've about same amount of snow, not just today. You can tell Lorna is enjoying her toy and looks as though it does a great job. ahhh look at the puppies, enjoying their time out.

Boy, you can always tell when roads are starting to clear all the OPP officers are out in full force..this morning I should have gotten a speeding ticket or two but luckily for me the cruisers already had someone pulled over..they know when sun shines, roads are clearing people just want to boogie..(hand up)
Yuk re the eggs..

Karen, have the box of 5" squares ready for posting tomorrow

drats, have 5 boxes to post, have one for MARION and do you think I can find where I put it for safe keeping..if I don't find it today then it will have to travel to Florida with me next month and I can post from there.

Deb, how did you fare the storm???

Debbie, any news on tomorrow??

Dianne, are you getting some of this sunshine?

LindaKay how did your dad's birthday party go?

Rita is gone to the bank, transfer $$$ into her account..she made an offer on a place, likely won't hear until Tuesday but she is so hoping to get it..fixer upper like mine. all us gals are raring to go with ideas and manpower lol

well maybe not so much for me, seems odd that I'm so riddled in pain, entire body that I wouldn't be offering to do major reno's with her..big sigh, perhaps I'll be better come spring.

Bags are going to be so pretty Betty. Wish we were closer as I've batting enough to share.
Just have a safe trip this weekend.

Judy - Happy to hear about Breenie but what happened with Jake? I bet it would be great to get away for a weekend. I use the board a LOT!!!! Today I used the back of an ironing pad as I had special things on your board. These blocks are for the Lasting Legacies BOM from Connecting Threads. I'm doing two blocks a month and this is month four.

"M" sounds like the snow is going to be around for such a long time this year. If we get much more my apartment will be so dark. We are on the ground floor and the snow is encroaching on our windows. Now they are saying more snow on Sunday. I've had it with winter!!!!
Must do a bit of ironing fabrics so I'm off for now. Waving to all~~~~~~~~

Dad's party was really nice. Several friends and family members came to have dinner with them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love those blocks Barb.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks LK. I think this will be a sweet quilt when it is done....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad he enjoyed his birthday party LindaKay, know you so wanted to be there but life happens. When I you planning a visit with them?

Another block, it's spectacular Barb..now are you as far as you can go or can you move forward getting the next months instructions.

Omg what trouble we would all be n if we lived closer, we's be trading some treasure each and every day.

I needed one bag for the weekend, rest will have to wait until Sunday/Monday when I've supplies enough to finish them..thing is would only take the day to finish the other , big sigh, guess I will work on the quilt that is on the frame, should focus on finish it anyway!

Rita has been out all mornimg but she left homemade soup for me, Lordy it's the best ever..so laughing, did say once or twice how much I shall meet her when she gets her place?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks so much Betty, can't wait to see the squares, I've been drooling over your Christmas fabrics.

mulege, Mexico

Well, it's too hot to continue working outside so I'm watching a Geoff Lawton video and waiting for a poker game for points. Big money game is tomorrow and I'm already qualified.

Big news here is dramatically less pain. I've been reading the "Wheat Belly" material available on line and, kicking and screaming, decided I had to try it. When I can barely move around even with pain pills (which still haven't arrived) I got a lot of vegetables and meat and cut out wheat and other starches. The withdrawl is no fun but lasted only a couple of days for me and today I am almost painfree and worked outside for several hours - until it got too hot. I was still able to have my coffee with cream and I'm hoping I'm not dairy intolerant but we'll see how it goes.

For those of you in a lot of pain from arthritis, etc I can only urge you not to delay as long as I did on trying it.

The aloes are taking off on the front hill. I planted more today with palm logs to help hold them in place and keep the damp while their roots settle in. The hill is basically sand and gravel so there's lots of slipping and sliding.

Tony found a rattlesnake in the wood pile. It was happy to escape down the hill into the arroyo. My dangerous work consisted of pulling up some small agave plants to use as fencing. their leaves have sharp points - good for a protective fence, dangerous for the eyes.

Back later.

Try it - loose the wheat, lose the pain.

hugs, katie

Betty, I have a mess here. I am not sure I can make tomorrow....it might have to wait.

Shannon is leaving in morning for Colorado....don't ask....this isn't a good thing.

Jeanna had a car accident on Wednesday, and Joe just got home after being gone 30 days.
I am making sure they don't need my help.

Over all I am just spent...and a mess. I should know more tonight.

no new snow here, or in Buffalo area...just very light flurries as of now.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, we will make it another time..not to worry..likely i might be over with mom and aunt Muriel at months end.

Ohhh that is not good on oth accounts. Mega stress when Shannon is but miles away, what on earth shall you do with her in Colorado? Is it but a vacation, hoping that is what is happening.

Gee whizz that girl can get herself into mega trouble Debbie, lots can happen when you don't have a dependable vehicle..come to think of it, had she not purchased a new vehicle recently?

Head is just a pounding, hot bath, excedrin migrain and Jammie's, that is what excitement I'll get to tonight.

If you "neglect" to tell your relatives where you are I don't think there will be any problems. kb

Katie, that is my plans...not tell anyone where I am going!!!

May we have a new thread soon Betty? For some reason I am having a hard time loading this one.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Not an occasion I have ever celebrated over the years but sure do like all the candy and chocolate out there for me to drool over and enjoy.

Snowed most of the night and all day so we are waiting for the plowguy to 'free' us. Certainly not as bad as some of you received but enough to cancel school today. More snow for tomorrow morning. Full moon tonight! Last night after 2 nights of extremely clear skies I couldn't even see the moon.

Oh yuck on the egg yolk mess.... been there and having the pups complicate the situation had me in stitched envisaging the whole situation.

(((Debbie))) Huge hugs and positive thoughts and prayers for Jenna. So glad Joe made it home but he must be exhausted and worried beyond belief. What can I say about ' the child'???? Nothing you haven't already thought, felt or said. If the 2 of them strike out and have difficulties its up to them to handle it all.... after all they made the decision to leave. Doesn't mean you won't worry yourself sick about them though.

Judy mam's old wood stove had a big water reservoir built in behind it - I had to use a chair to reach it in order to fill it up. Now I use a big old kettle.

Have been a sloth today and hope to head to bed early. Will catch up the slack tomorrow.

Safe travels tomorrow Betty.
