Valentines day here will be attending school with my oldest granddaughter, Abbigail, as it is Grandparents Day. I alternate years with the girls. Most likely all my family will get together that evening as we usually do on Fridays.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Awww Used to love grandparents day. Loved that kids school made it grandparents and special persons day to cover those who didn't have them available.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds like a great gathering Marion. Jeff is off to Cuba tomorrow and Greg and family at Winterfest so even though it's family day on Monday likely we will not get together..another weekend is fine.

Your President Day Holiday right

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Karen, there were no Grandparents Days when my children were in school. I am so enjoying this with the girls...a very special time for the 2 of us.

Betty, Monday is Presidents day here but we can all celebrate Valentine's Day on the thread. :-)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

-28 this morning, will I ever be warm again?

got to tell you all it feels good to laugh and laugh I have all morning.

Bought Suzanne's granddaughters little apes who are wearing valentines day pants..last night I mentioned to Rita that I really should get them out, pick up chocolates and bag them for the girls before I forget.

Set them on the stove (no, didn't burn them) and this morning while getting ready heard one whistle, guess motion activated, then heard I drove him banana's and did I want to monkey around..each time we moved through the kitchen the little gaffer kept talking..one of them didn't work, needed batteries but that's ok, could buy them this morning. Rita and I were so laughing, I said maybe I shouldn't give them away, felt good having someone whistle at me at the beginning of the day..lol but put them in my tote bag, big sigh..

picked up chocolate angels on a stick for the girls so all I need now are bags.

got out of the car, got on the elevator and a lawyer from the firm next door got on, I turned to talk to him and my monkey started with.. you drive me banana's, whistle then want to fool around? lol guy looked at me and we broke out laughing.

In the office, put batteries in the other one, thank goodness it wasn't talking, asks 'do you want to pet my monkey?' could be taken the wrong way!!! so funny..

Sharon was telling me that if you look at the clip at Westminster you will see her 2nd entry winning Best of Opposite so she ended up with 2 big wins..Maybe if Inuk retires Emily will start winning Best of Breed.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Grandparent Day here as well, but not when my kids or grandkids were young enough that I could participate.

Hear bad storm nearing many of you..will be worried about you all, please let us know you are safe in the house enjoying your day.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

It is one dark, nasty day here but nothing compared to what those further north are dealing with. Heavy rain and winds.......good thing I didn't start cleaning more of the yard the other day.

Everyone dealing with this new onslaught of weather, please stay in, keep warm and if you must be out....be careful and safe.

Victoria Harbour, ON

They were telling those headed south going through Atlanta terminals as well as flights heading Texas way to confirm their flights..say it's a doozy

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

That is what the news is saying down here also. Actually they have said this is definitely much worse than the one that has already passed through the area. Of course after all the problems regarding traffic, etc....they could be just CYTA! Not a bad idea at that. A cousin who lives in TN. says they already have more ice than last time.....not good.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, dangerous for sure..hope everyone is smart enough to just mellow inside!

not sure how one tells them apart

Ladies please be careful in those storms.

No bad weather here. It was 25 this morning, but it is supposed to be 65 today, and 80 by Friday.

Funny story about those apes Betty!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

LMAO "wanna pet my monkey"............ OMG Betty - you have the most interesting situations!!
Judy - Happy belated Birthday!!

Bob's work is only 10-15 minutes away (15 in bad traffic)
I'm working on some piecework a friend's company has given us to do.... now that it's just me, I'm working harder than ever - it's gluing tiny medicine boxes together. Bob & I fold them (him, when he's home & feels like it; me the rest of the time), then I glue them, wrap elastic around them, and put them in a box. We started with 8000, and I've gotten 2500 done....... fiddly little things to glue - have a "glue gun" which looks like your basic tape gun, but with glue rolls instead of tape.
Have to get these done by end of the weekend, so best get going. 6 cents per box........ it's an income, right?!?!

Victoria Harbour, ON

That it is Susan..every penny counts! Does sound tedious..does he sell these things?

Glad LindaKay you aren't in storms path.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hmmm .. I think we celebrate 'Grandparents Day' in Sept in Canada.
Supposed to be Sept 7 this year.
Actually no one really even remembers, but, when they do, well it's nice to be celebrated, but, I ALWAYS feel bad with the kids spending $$ on us .. tell them to send us an online card, or, come here for supper.

Good heavens!! I have been watching the weather through the Carolinas and Georgia, have friends driving down through that way to Florida .. sure do hope they would find a room and STAY PUT !!!

Coffee with the gurls was 2 hours long and so much FUN!!!
Not as fun as your Monkeys though Betty .. LOL .. hilarious :-)
Went to Dollarama and loaded up a gift bag for the kids .. Gord will drop it off tonight when he picks up Austin for their 'night out' .. they go shooting at an indoor range. Gord runs the class and teaches the kids ..

Watched the Canada/US womens hockey game today .. what a HEART STOPPER .. I had to go into the bedroom for the last 30 seconds !!!

Good luck with the boxes Susan .. as you say, it's an income ..

Gord has made ribs for supper, best get the rice cooker out and make some rice ..

Hope everyone is safe and well

PS .. it is flippin well BALMY here at -10C !!!

Betty, just exactly what kind of store did you buy those apes in? LOL I laughed till I cried when I read that and I so needed it this morning. I am SO through with this winter. While it is fantastic to have longer daylight hours I could do without seeing another drop of snow or freezing rain. It is quite bright out but frigid temps. I couldn't even move in wood without a hat and gloves.

Everyone has such interesting activities most days and it seems my whole life at the moment revolves around wood. I might cheat tonight and let the oil kick in so I don't have to get up and stoke the fire a couple of times in the night. I'm turning into a lazybones.

M how did you make out at the dentist, or shouldn't I ask? Hope he was able to do a quick fix.

Patience is a virtue Susan and it seems you are blessed with it. Doing all those boxes is sure labour intensive. Is it piecework or lump sum payment?

Inuk and Em are absolutely stunning.

Hope our Susan and Danny in Atlanta are safe and warm. Danny is an EMT so he is probably having to work no matter what.

Marion be easy on your hands when you are cleaning up the yard. Do you have much left to do?

It looks like the Weather Liars advanced forecast of doozy of a storm this Friday is wrong. Woo hoo!!! They will tell us a warm front moved in and keep the storm south of the border. I think initially they thought we were going to get the storm that is ravaging the south and east coast. Betty do you know if Debbie is in the storm warning area? Safe travels as you go over the border.

LK I would take the 25* right now and smile broadly. Are the dogs a little more active when the temps are lower? I know my 2 are unless it is this bitter cold. Then I almost have to force them out the door. Poor Duke looked shocked and like I had tricked him when he went out earlier. The sun was shining brightly so I think he didn't expect the bitter cold. The look on his face was priceless.

Barb are you going to be hit by this storm? Hope Norm doesn't have to be out on the road if you are.

Katie how is your pain level today? You are so fortunate to have Tony to help you out. It sounds like the 2 of you have worked out an excellent working relationship.

Mary, sweetie how goes the battle? Know things can be pretty intense for you both at work and personally when you are working so hard. Hope things with your DS are resolved.

Need to get my long johns on so I can walk the dogs while it is still light and the coyotes aren't out.The deer are really out and about so probably are having difficulty getting food. One of the couples at the north end of the lane feed both the deer and the wild turkeys.

Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne

mulege, Mexico

Well, I'm here but having a bit of a rough time of it. Took my last pain killer today and hope the next package arrives soon. Pain sucks. No way around it. I'm working to get wehat out of my diet as I think it's part of the problem. Then maybe dairy. My neice is on a fairly restricted diet and as she says, "It is what it is" as it helps a lot witht the pain.

Planted a bunch of seeds today. Saw a snake which raised my adrenalin levels considerably. I grabbed a shovel an was able to kill it. I have to check with Tony tomorrow but it might have been a bad one. We occasionally see rattlers but they don't like us any more than we like them. The lowest parts of our arroyo (valley) are at flood level so the snakes tend to stay down there and away from people.

Do any of the rest of you get the TV show "Dogs with Jobs"? This morning was the repeat of a story about a rescued dog who rescues cats.

That's the news from here.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Think sunshine for Debbie and I Dianne..bought those little critters in Meaford last week..going to check to see if they have another next time I go..such laughs!!

"M" much like your region, will feel like spring being in the - single digit.

ohhh ohhh Susan, "M" and Dianne, bet your are as proud as I re our Canadian Athlete who gave up his chance in the Olympics so that another athlete who had a better change to win could run..he won a silver, name of both athletes should be on that metal for sure. sportsmanship in the highest degree.

"M" both my grandson's got their hunting licenses..don't think they hunt but they went through the program...can't hurt.

Katie, sure hoping that you get meds quickly..sorry you are still in so much pain. yuk to the snake, you are a brave one to have gone back to kill it..not I!

heard they arrested someone in the murder of 2 elderly Canadian in Mexico..say it was a man who did odd jobs, they are now checking on his brother possibly being involved..sad

they were just showing clips of Atlanta, roads are clear, almost everyone stayed home today..bet police are relieved.

Posted this on the sewing thread Dianne

The snow arrives here tomorrow morning and goes all day. They still don't know if we are getting 10-12 inches of snow or 3 inches of snow turning to ice or ice turning to snow. They just know it's coming and we are getting it!!! At least Norm will be home tomorrow as his company has called off work tomorrow. Means he works Sat but at least he will be safe off the roads.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear he does not have to travel in that bad weather.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Linda

Betty, what is the plan for Friday / Saturday? When are you coming in and where do you want to meet?

I might have to meet up with you later in the day, but will know more Friday.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

Debbie, we are hoping to arrive in Buffalo around 9 or 9:30 not to worry if you can't make it I'll likely be over in a week or so after to bring mom and aunt Muriel..always nice to see you though.

How's the weather everyone in your neck of the woods?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

A very fine snow is just starting here. Not stopping until late tonight-tomorrow morning. Glad I'm snug and warm in the house!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

We are so far getting a reprieve from the snow Barb..let's hope it doesn't amount to much..good side, ohhh you have Norm home.

had a happy face this a.m. had put a large geranium in my laundry room, was deader than a door nail, this morning I've growth of about 8"..does that mean spring is on its way

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Shiver, shake and get ready to start shoveling here.
The wind is blowing OLD snow around, and, a front is pushing in from the west which will, in all likelihood, dump on us BIGTIME .. ahh well .. if it raises the temps, that'll be fine with me.

Betty, I never thought to put my Geraniums away, shoot!
Sign of spring for sure .. must ask my friend what her Amaryllis is doing .. she puts it to bed each May after a spectacular showy bloom or 2 appear and then run their course .. leaaves it and brings it out in, I think, March/april ..

Gym is on the agenda, and I want to go and have my Passport renewed .. expensive proposition that, especially if you take in for 10 years, which I hope to do.

Take care everyone, stay warm and safe

Have had several amaryllis "M", gorgeous but never had any luck saving them.

Haven't wateredthegeranium since I brought it n late fall, now that it is showing me leaves I thought I would treat it with a watering.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

What a difference an hour can make !
We now have a snowfall alert, and it is full on blowing snow out there.
I'd rather stay home, but, Lorna is committed to going to workout and she needs my assistance ..
Good thing she has a 4 wheel drive, IF we do go !!

Decisions, decisions !!

Good Morning...Good morning!
Geesh, just made a nice post on tabby, hit wrong button and proof, gone...shaking my head, sigh.

Well, Birthday was nice and casual, lounged and had a movie brigade! Steve gave me a case Red Stripe!!
LOL, Ilove this Jamaican beer. Too expensive for all the time so we enjoy it on special occasion...
He also gave me potting soil and a nice variety of vegetable seeds. We went to dinner on Sunday as a family, was fun. Oh and a lovely card! ROFLOL, I asked him if he actually read the card, lol only because it was really romantic and he usually does funny!! We laughed about it.

Also said...Do enjoy Grandparents day all you wonderful Grand mas & pas!! I know my MIL always loved going to the school festivities.

OMG, I hear you on the fire upkeep Dianne!! I like to have a fire when i don't really have anything else going on. One doesn;t realize just how much work they are to keep going. Do you let it go out every couple days for clean out?

Oh please everyone be safe on the roads.
Today we are expecting a heatwave!! Supposed to reach the 30's!! woohoo.

Sooo, a big bummer, DH lost his best friend...Hot tub is empty and winterized! It was due to both our Stupidity...Sunday needed to add water, so got that going and off to dinner. We completely forgot the water was running...yep you giessed it, overflow, then froze! We were able to get most of it dried enough to keep it heated, but not swirling...Had the people come out yesterday and since it's so cold the better bet is to empty and winterize. They did a nice job, placed a tarp on it and then shrink wrapped the whole thing. It will stay that way until it is at least 40* overnight.
Well now, DH also bought a new vehicle for work, turns out it is a lemon!!

Lets see, we don't really do anything special for Valentines day, Maybe I'll give him a hug and a kiss, lol.
Speaking of, OMG Betty, I was laughing so hard yesterday with your Monkey's in a bag!! ROFLOL especially at the elevator scene!!!still giggling at the thought.

Oh and Betty and all our sewing circle!!! OMG, Breenie has created a sheet fabric, I was trying not to be sew excited as she already was oh momming me for taking a single picture!! lol. Plus she said i was not to get off the hook of sewing items for her, lol....anyways, I'll show you in a few, got to get from tabby.

oh maybe i should do it now before i have to run off to train with jake...
Be right back!

Glenview, IL

Lol...she was sew very excited at the expansion of material as she sewed.
Sistah Jaye gave these jelly rolls a couple years ago. Fast forward to a few days ago.
BREENIE wanyed me to take the stips and attatch them to a pait of pants.
lol I said you midaswell make a sheet and make the pants...

So I gave her the fundamentals and away she sewed!
Lol I also showed her the jelly roll race...she loved it!

Try not to see what she did with her gorgeous hair...

Isn't it great when someone wants you teach them? None of my kids or grands are interested. Well, maybe one, but her godmother is a longarmer and has already started her quilting and bought her a machine. S oooooo......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohh Judy, Breenie doesn't even look like herself! Looks like she's 12

How much fun you will have sewing together! I've certainly had the pleasure of such an experience seeing Rita thrilled with each piece she makes.

You will have creatd a sewing monster for sure.

A barb, maybe you can send the little one your quilts to quilt! Lol

Verona, ON

Morning all. Been up since dawn but am just now getting here. Wood to bring you know and pups to be walked. Plus I had to clean out the ashes. Judy I don't let the fire die out. I let the fire die down and then I take out hot ashes. Once I start a fire in the fall I rarely have to start another one until I start with the occasional pancake fires in the spring. Wish I had my mam's old wood cook stove to use although it was huge and would take up so much room. We used to keep water hot on the back of it. My job was to fill the water up each day

Barb, so glad Norm is off the road today. Tomorrow too? I have been watching the news from Boston and the weather is starting to look dreadful. Believe it or not Boston is 1 of my 'home' channels on my satellite dish. I would have thought I'd have had something from NY state. Snow is just starting here - very light but is to pick up with more of the lovely white stuff tomorrow.

Full moon is supposed to be tomorrow night but you sure wouldn't have known it the last 2 nights. Night and bright.. last night I could read by the moonlight. The bright moon makes the wildlife move around more so there was lots of activity around here last night. Sonar ears Duke was up and after them off and on all last night. Duke also decided since HE was up he would show us how talented he is at turning the bedroom light off and on. I thought I had shortened the string for the light but obviously not enough.

Best get a move on. Stay safe and warm everyone.

Fantastic socks!!! Judy sure knows what makes each of happy!!!!

I got the third block for Delightful Stars Bom done yesterday and I just finished the second block for the Aurifil BOM

Really getting to use up these scraps of fabric!!!

Lordy I love those bright colored blocks Barb, you are doing a fantastic sewing job, can see you are enjoying every minute of it!
I just did panels for to do 4 quilt bags, 2 in black/white and 2 in browns
Now to find fabric for pockets ,closure, liner and straps, can be different patterns then I can send a few to Bethel House..until then I'll not attemp what you've done..so tedious and exact.

Dianne, see we had an earthquake last night, 1/2 way between you and I..unusual for winter time.

I so miss peeling potatoes, slicing them thin and putting directly on top of the stove, turn over with a fork, put in a pan with salt butter, best treat ever.

Thunder, now don't you look toasty warm n those socks..leave it to Judy to fnd snowman socks..you will have to take a side view of the snowman so. Can see he is a bird feeder and how she put n together.
