few will grow to that Debbie..
what day will you be back, Joyce won't be arriving until next Thursday evening May 16th..I truly believe you need time away from the family. Know you think you have to be there for everyone but for once, no twice seeing I kidnapped you before, should all joking aside consider it..drats and more drats, how on earth could Paul do such a thing knowing what impact it has on your health..truly is not a nice thing to do!
feel like going to your house and pulling the peppers out myself and don't you for one second think I'm joking because I'm not!!
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Come visit & chat
just maybe LindaKay I will try that and see if it I have success..so love them..I'd love to see them between the hops..got to tell you if anyone wants to cover and area hops are the thing to get, bet in just over a week they are about 5' tall
Good morning everyone,
I'm up and moving and feeling a bit better. Yesterday was lost to a headache. I think I've had a virus or some other bug. Not much to do but hang in.
Lanika, I love the jlhudson people. I read their catalogs for the great descriptions and editorial comments. My schotia tree which is now about thirty feet tall came from one of their seeds, which they no longer carry.
My pain killer just kicked in so I'm going to ride my exercise bike for a while.
Have you all discovered Pinterest? It's my new favorite spot to look for ideas. Now to get the energy to do some of them.
hugs, katie
Oh I know you would, but I think I have it under control. I don't take much from him anymore...and he is going to learn a
hard lesson sooner than later.
I do need to be here, with the dog needing meds for a bit longer, and DD has two appointments coming up I have to be here
for. She can't drive into the city alone...and I do need to be there to interpret what they say so we know the facts, not DDs "they
are idiots" replies. lol Soon as I get DD under control, I will be up there! I know the way now. Also....we have the Amish coming
to work on the house (Gutters) so when that calms...I will be up your way!
Katie, I am on Pinterest, I just love it!!
spent time looking for quilting and garden designs Katie..was just going to post this photo that i think Susan had up last year..wanted to look at the beautiful region you live in. Thought you might be in the house and not on the beach, couldn't see you..lol glad you are feeling a bit better.
I understand Debbie, just think you need a break from it all..
got this message from Sharon "Rick died... I'm going to get her to go to the funeral home." will give her a call tonight..know she's feeling terrible.
looks pretty doesn't it..you can buy a light that strobes under water
Sharon is upset..no funeral or service..told her that's the route I will go
Sorry to hear about her friend passing away Betty, please send her our condolence, and prayers.
Katie, I am on Pinterest also, there are so many cool ideas on there.
please pass on my prayers to Sharon re: her friend Rick passing.....
GRRRR just got a call from the sewing machine repair store that I brought my machine in for servicing, reputable but holy moly, $255.64 + 13% gst..said it needs a cutter, light bulb, tension unit adjustment, servicing was just under $100, a pully, needle bar adjustment and feed dog adjustment
was laughing with Suzanne, told her that payday isn't until tomorrow and already puff
Wow, I know you use your machines a lot, but not to do all that damage? Which machine did you take in for servicing?
the Janome 9000 which I haven't had serviced in 2 years and does all my sewing and embroidery on..was expensive machine when I bought it..not much I can do but pay it! big sigh
Think I had better give up some of my craft interests, spent a fortune on quilting, stained glass supplies I just bought a few weeks ago was up there as well, add gardening...hm think I should take up knitting or just sit and watch t.v. keep this up kids won't get an inheritance lol
usually I justify these expenditures as they are christmas/birthday/anniversary gifts, I don't smoke, don't drink soooo
Next time, ask for an estimate before he starts work?
Fee was $100 for just the cleaning, I ok'd the rest of the work when she called after my lunch today..they are reputable so if it needed it, it needed it..that machine has done one heck of a lot of sewing and quilting and embroidery..guess if you average it out it's $150 per year of sewing lol cheap right?
Guess so!
Home, trying to decide if I should go outside and move the blocks they delivered, talk about quick, just ordered them this morning, weed a bit or just make myself company..what to do, what to do
Did you all have a busy day gardening or sewing?
Young Noah was suppose to come and edge, no signs of him since Friday..lol
He did tell me he was more mature this year, guess he forgot. Lol
Neighbor Dana called around noon and had me bring Jennybear over to be shaved. Jennybear is my only long-haired dog and she has enough long fur for all four. We got a big bag of fur shaved off, cllipped her toenails and treated her with flea medicine. It took about an hour and I'm done in. Gave Jennybear and tranquillizing med before we began and she behave really well. I'm a proud mom.
I'm feeling much better and am reminding myself not to overdo and relapse.
hugs, katie
Had JennyBear wandered over to Dana's..likely she will feel so much better, 1/2 her wight lighter..you are fortunate that you can do the clipping..Missy needs her nails done but I cannot take the sound of the crunch, just like chalk with fingernails so must make an appointment at the vets. Smart lady if you learn to not overdue..
Fruit trees are budding..amazing what a few days of sunshine does, maybe a bit of rain will now to the trick.
Just spent 1/2 hour outside, wow I can't believe the ants that go to the snowball trees and wild rose bushes..sure hope my spraying water with soap in it does the trick, someone told me it burns the tree, hope not.
Moved about 10 bricks closer to the pond, about 50 more, reminded myself of bad shoulders.... So what if it kills a patch of grass, it will grow, not worth crying about how much pain I'm in so opted to leave them there.
It's fun isn't it to walk the gardens and see what growth there is, not so much fun seeing the weeds..tell myself if the plants grow to a healthy size they will hide the weeds. Lol. Now what kind of gardener is that!
My goat beard that I cut to the ground has good growth, few peonies that I never could grow are doing well, think I've just lost 1
I bought a Roger shrub, didn't do well, moved it about four years in a row, finally found its home, fantastic growth..do yu know I don't even know if it flowers, will have to check it out.
I see little stems with odd shaped leaves, hmmm wondered what they are..went to check out my Japanese Kieri (?) shrub and it seems as though they look the same, if so not sure if I will have to pull them out, loads of them and they grow quickly..
My yellow everblooming lilac trees though as though they will have flowers shortly, the purple everblooming trees gre well this year..guess the pear tree and smoke bush grew the most..I'm impressed with the smoke tree.
Have to think about moving some of the new hops growth out near the fencing, I will transplant them somewhere..where I don't know, think they could take over quite easily, they cover the old metal fencing along neighbors yard, makes a privacy wall as the fence disappears when they cover them..hmm maybe the outhouse I made a few years ago as an art addition to the back fourty, although not sure I want to hide it.
Black flies sent me inside..maybe I can take a few photo's without them carrying me away before it gets dark.

If you are wondering why I'm so chatty this evening its because I've been up since forever and don't want to fall asleep till later..
photo 1 blocks aren't big but they are heavy
photo 2 finally a bit of color
photo 3 thrilled that this peony is doing ok
photo 4 lilac trees aren't full Debbie, secret garden isn't secret yet
photo 5 hops, out of the ground for a week, would venture to say by end of MAY the arch will be nothing but hops
photo 1 think the apple blossom trees will be in bloom for Joyce's visit
photo 2 goats bear, hard to believe that this shrub will be about 8' all by mid JULY with the fluffiest white flowers, wonder
if I can divide it
photo 3 anybody know what these are
photo 4 Roger plant, grows about 3 or 4' tall - have to go and check if it has flowers not that its healthy
photo 5 smoke bush, should have leaves shortly
nothing to exciting in my garden but I know what is coming
What are the pretty yellow flowers Betty?m
Photo 1 I transplanted about 4 red maple sapplings and they've grown about 1'..exciting..NOT that I need more trees
with leaves to rake
Photo 2 this red maple that the sapplings came from was about 7' tall when I moved her about 8 years ago..how it's grown
its at least 30 feet or more..wonder how big I should let the sapplings grow before I decide where to plant them?
Photo 3 hmm this is a 'broom' suppose to grow quite high with miniature yellow flowers, almost tempted to prune
Photo 4 Japanese Kiera - new growth
Photo 5 Every year I cut this shrub down and it grows like crazy..look how low I've pruned it so that when I hang a hanging
basket the shrub won't hide it's beauty, thought I might have pruned it to much but watch it grow
Is it time for bed yet lol
Judy, how are you feeling today, better?
We'll have to get Barb out of her sewing room to chat with us...
Wonder how Janice and Stacey are doing?
Thoe are beautiful Betty, love the frog too!
Beautiful Pics Betty !
Nice to see you getting out and having good garden weather....
Susan... You are a March baby too then :)....
How is the job hunting going?
Betty - Thanks for kind words on DS. I really can't talk to Hubs about DS... hard to explain. Wish I could be up there with Joyce...
LK can you get those air cleaners for the dust? Love your pics too... Do you have to keep most things in pots due to the water ?
Oh Debbie - don't you be allergic to chocolate ! Not funny paul with the peppers... hope you have him in place..... Thanks for the words re: DS Blues... I don't suppose I have to make any moves yet. Hope Shane is hoping to surprise you with a visit. Maybe he doesn't know that you know he is coming. He is surely learning more about the real world and supporting oneself than my DS .... Sounds like you need to have an inhaler at all times... I had used one over the past 2 years but it's been a while.
Lana what a fun time at your work watching those graduates !
Katie - I am newly on Pinterest as well. Don't totally get it yet but I love the ideas. Got into trying to make essential oils and I have made Bath Fizzies for Mothers Day.
Hugs,
Mary
All my plants are in raised beds, or in pots, nothing is in the ground, as our soil is concrete hard caliche clay! It literally takes a jack hammer to dig holes here!
both my DH & I are March babies - he's on the 6th, and me on the 11th
I got an email yesterday from someone who saw my resume, and is interested in me, but wanted to know what compensation I wanted. When I said the amount I've been getting, she said an amount $10-15 less per year and that it wouldn't be right for me then. Today, after I'd told the agency what had happened, she was upset with me and said one of the conditions of them helping was that I would accept reasonable jobs. So, I emailed the lady back and told her that a great job and position was not just financial compensation. She emailed back with a "That's great! We'll put you on the Potential Candidate list, and I'll let the Hiring Manager know this week." It's a bit of a way to travel (40 minutes and out of Calgary), but I've travelled that long for other jobs, so that's ok.
We shall see what happens.
I've gotten lots more resumes out and getting a bit of response.
I'm going to a Job Fair for disabled and/or over 45 yo unemployed people, on the 14th. They will have employers there, so I'm to bring my cover letter and resume, plus references. Another "we'll see" situation. I am hopeful though.
Morning everyone. Can't sleep so I finally gave up and got up. Will probably want to nap this afternoon but I will try and talk myself out of doing that. No sleep meds tonight as the Pharmacy had none in stock and the truck didn't get there before closing at 5 pm.
Rain came this afternoon but not before we had a wonderful day. Oh man I would love these temps year round. Black flies are horrid here too. Sure hope it is a short season for them. I was going to go over into the village and watch the wee ones play T Ball but the games were called. As one mom said to me not sure if it was called due to the rain or due to the biting insects. Skeeters are getting their needle noses in there too so one could get really bit up if they didn't watch. When we used to spend the summers at the shack (which is on the Mississippi River - yes THE MR) Warren said kissing me was like kissing a spray can of bug repellant as that was all he could smell or taste.
LK raised beds has to be a great bonus with your bad back. Loved looking at the photos of your gardens. Bet they look wonderful once they have filled in.
Please Betty pass on to your DS my condolences on the loss of her friend Rick. It really, really hits you when a friend passes as you can't help but think we were the same age .... that could have been me. There is a very tragic story involving the vet tech and her DH that were killed last week. The tech's DH won $75,000 on I think the 649 a few years ago. With some of the winnings he bought himself a motorcycle. They had an accident with the bike and settled a law suit for approx 1.5 million. Now you know they didn't get anywhere near the 1.5 as most people think but by the time everything was said and done they were left in a comfortable spot. The day before this last accident they took possession of a gorgeous home on a lake not too far down Desert Lake Road from me. My heart just aches as they had come through so much and were finally getting their lives together and in just 1 little second and everything was gone. Poof!!!
Hostas are doing great as long as I can keep the deer and rabbits away from them. Might have to put chicken wire around the hostas. I know it keeps the plants safe from wandering nibblers but sure doesn't do much for the overall look of the garden. One of my Bleeding Hearts is already in bloom, the other 2 are very tiny with no sign of flowers. Young neighbours dug out and took away the 2 Purple Sand Cherries on the weekend. I hope they do well at their place. Need to buy some Begonias both for hanging baskets and my large Begonia Barrel. Hopefully I can get some yellow ones to add to the colour mix this year. Last year I left it too late and could only get red and pink Begonias. The Bindenstock is growing and spreading like gangbusters. I had no idea when I planted them how prolific they were going to be. My Goat's Beard is about 2 -3 ft high..... I swear you can watch it grow.
Betty are you going to put the boat into the water this year? In 1 way I miss having the boat but in many others I sure do not. When it started to pour rain this afternoon my first thought was "when should I go out and bale the boat ? "
Susan I surely do not envy your task of applying for work. Here's hoping with Spring here job prospects pick up. Is Bob enjoying his new TV?
Judy how are you feeling now? And sweet Mary how about you?
Katie I betcha the pup feels so much better rid of all that hair. I'm thinking I need that done myself.lol. My hair is thick, well not as thick as it was before radiation but still thick so it gets hot and sweaty easily. Yep,think my summer buzz cut will happen soon.
Going to have some soda biscuits and maybe lay down for a bit. Hope I fall asleep!!
Hope everyone has a great Thursday.
Dianne
Morning everyone!
What a sad story about your vet! Sending prayers for them!
Dianne, sure hope you get some sleep today!
Sounds like your yard is starting to grow like Betty's? What is Bindenstock? Have you tried planting marigolds around your plants, I have heard deer don't like them?
This site has a list of plants deer do not like.
http://www.gracefulgardens.com/deer-repellent
new ones cost a fortune, sadly out of my reach
????? I'm so laughing, was on MSN with Sharon and she asked me about the long arm computer sewing machine..must have answered here vs on msn
no wonder she asked why I WASN'T answering her question?
This message was edited May 9, 2013 8:14 AM
I'm not with it this morning..just wrote a novel re all yours posts, scrolled up to read something, realized I had in error answered Sharon's question and edited..not even thinking about losing my post...voila, lost in space
be back here and there to respond to some of the posts.. drats and more drats
will start with Dianne
Dianne, is your water as low as our Georgian Bay? Marina's along our coast are in mega trouble, some don't even have the depth of water to get big boats in to gas up. As for the Foxy Lady, perhaps if the boys get all my chores done on the weekend they might take the shrink wrap off her, put the tunnel cover on her, doubt they would get her serviced though. We are all so busy the poor girl hardly ever gets in the water..our lives have so changed but she'll stay as a lawn ornament seeing she belonged to Roger
I was going to ask as well what Bidenstock is?? might be a plant I'd enjoy??
speaking of plants..my next door neighbor who moved out and their house going on the market really have no gardens, she did however make one little area, about 3ft, full of weeds has 2 lovely 3' yellow/white bleeding heart..I had bought one a few years back, didn't do well..do you think I'd go to hell (lol) if I dug them up or snatched them??? in return I could clean that area and make it presentable for the sale or I could divide it..hmmmm what to do???
How tragic for the young man's and his family..drats
Betty - no I don't think you'd go to hell........ just slip out in early morning hours in your jammies, and everyone will look the other way lol
Just got home from my MRI - 1 1/4 hours from door to door lol I left home at 6:15 to be there for 6:30, filled out paperwork, x-ray by 6:40, then changed into hospital pants & top, then 20 min worth of MRI and I was done. Home by 7:30! Dr will have results in 1 week.
In 2 hours I'm off to Bible Study, and tonight I have Choir Practice.
I think this is the plant family Dianne was referring to
http://www.cedarcreek.umn.edu/plants/album/bidens.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidens
Hope all goes well Susan. Fingers crossed for an answer for you.
I doubt anyone would notice Betty...especially if you weeded while you were there....the plants could "leave" with the weeds.....
Hope all goes well with your MRI results Susan. Is this from an old injury?
lol well I just might be doing some weeding tonight or early morning..hate to see them die from lack of care when I so would look after them. If the owners would come I'd ask..know they have a service coming in to clean/paint the entire inside of the house..not sure they would attempt the outside or even notice.
Thanks Jean..I'm attaching a photo from one of the links..gave all the girls some seed when they were at the reunion and not so sure that wasn't one of them..we call it tick seed??? hmmm wonder if it IS the same..just starting to come up now..
photo 1 - my goats beard from last year
photo 2 - my tickseed
Happened April 2, 2011 - previous Dr had only x-rayed it, but current Dr said I likely have a tear in my left knee (in the meniscus, perhaps?!). When he pressed a spot on the inside of my left knee, I just about went through the roof!!
Temp is 11c/54F, and it's only 8:30!! Supposed to get to 24c/75F and that's a really nice temp for this time of year. Going to get hotter 27c/81F by Sunday.
It's really sunny now
Hopefully soon Susan you will get results to your liking..
