Sweet Interruptions # 257.. really 257

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

have fun and be safe. we will miss you

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Don't we all wish we could be there in Texas right now? Have fun LK.

Benadryl might work for Muffin, Sis. It worked for Lola for a while, then the vet had to give her allergy shots, as she had practically went bald on her back. '

Pegi, praying here that the chemo treatments will work for Darwin. I know you're overwhelmed with so much going on.
You've been such a supportive wife, and I hope you have a girlfriend there or someone you can relate to when things get too much. Unloading here is good, but nothing like someone who could hold your hand and give you the physical shoulder when you need it.
Love you Pegi.

Sue, what are you doing with junk food?? I'm sure your physical trainer would be frowning. Stick to healthy rabbit food gal!

Marion if you're lurking, hoping here you aren't hurting too bad with that knee.
Sending prayers for your mum.

Murdock's home yesterday and the drama with MIL and Hospice has already begun. Right when the nurse crossed their threshold!! Social worker wasn't even at the house, and she had begun to pick a fight with an absentee!! Lol!!

Sad thing is Kel couldn't tell his mum anything, but he came home and unburden his chest. Yep, I had to listen to his rantings....
Then his older brother who's still at PIL's house, kept texting Kel on what's going on. Mind you, Kel didn't return till 6 yesterday evening. So, back and forth the complaints went on about their mother dearest.
2 adult sons that could easily sign their mother to a mental institution, chose to just let her do whatever she wants.
I'm sure my SIL is wishing that MIL dies first, so FIL have some peace.
Lord forgive me for thinking like this :D

I worked for several years at a vet school as a student services secretary. My personal vet was once one of my students, so she always gives me the inside scoop. I am SO grateful that I can give my dog Benadryl (1mg per pound) and my cat Glucosamine (500 mg daily) instead of paying a zillion dollars for vet meds. She gave me a printout years ago and I just found this website that has the same info on it. Hope it helps! Search Google for Walker Valley Vet and then choose the Over-the-Counter link on the left.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Welcome Lana, and thanks for the input.
I sure hope Sis Kathy's Muffin can use Benadryl. It's much cheaper than the allergy shots. I may start Lola on glucosamine soon, as she's now 5.

As for my cats, to boost their immune system, I've been pulverizing L-Lysine tabs, adding to their food.

Lana.. you certainly have some exotic looks!

A great Country Legend has passed on.................George Jones.....RIP

Hello Ladies,

WOW are we warming up.....in the high 80's and will see 90 come Monday.................

Doug has found out that he is not srtong enough anymore to pick up his Vulcan, so he is selling it. We will be riding my LiL Sporty, and maybe a year from Sept when we go to Street Vibes in Reno we will look for another bike, either for me or him. He just said this morning that we could get the "72" I wanted in the first place, I told him we'll see.

Been working on a glass totem to put in my flower garden, hoping to get it done today. But first we are going to church for lunch, it is the 1st anniversary of Nanny's passing. Then tomorrow Doug is entering a Rib cook-off, and then I'm heading to my mom's for the few days. Visiting my brother then will be helping mom with her bowling league stuff, next Tuesday is the last night of bowling.

I'm glad we will have good weather for our trip out to Menifee for RU. Have to get out and gather up plants I plan on taking with me. I think I may have to make a list then check them off as I put them in the truck. If I don't I'll manage to forget something. Making sure camera is fully charged too.

Be sure to post picture of your totem, Cindy. I found a really neat bottom for a totem at the thrift store. It is heavy so that will work out fine. Starting to get out some of my vases, etc. to see what will work together. I'll be surprised at some of the things I have packed away, you know out of sight out of mind. Yep, getting older takes the strength out of us, now I understand a lot more of what I can and cannot do.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Aww Cindy, sorry to read that Doug's not able to use his bike. But at least his bike riding days won't be over if he can still ride on a smaller one. Good luck on the sale, and the cook off.

Pegi, the camera I'm sending you only use regular batteries. I rather these than the lithium ones, and unfortunately Sony cameras only use those.

Sis Kathy, how are you doing now?

Nothing much going on today here. Clean the house, entertain the cats and spent some time weeding before the rains hit us for a whole week!

Good night my sistahs.

Holly Springs, NC(Zone 7b)

With the weather looking cooler for the next few days, I tossed the hunting cats into the crawlspace under the house to begin eradicating the field mice (voles). All my cats are indoor-only, so it's like an amusement park for them under there. I knew it was time when I saw a vole poking around among the plants I have out on the porch to harden off.

Headed over to the garden center last night and ended up coming home with way too many of last years perennials that they had marked at 50% off. Now to get them planted before the rain starts. It's a perfect setup for transplanting!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I came home with so many plants, going to be busy all day. Very small group, but we enjoyed the afternoon. One gal filled up a picnic table with all plants she brought and each one had a marker of the name. Now, as if I could remember names any of them! It was a perfect sunny day and sitting on the patio was perfect. DH got a little tired, but he did a lot of relaxing on a lounge chair. These gals are very serious gardeners.

Saw all these wonderful glass totems and flowers made from plates on Facebook so I am again anxious to go through my treasures and see what I have to work with. Just takes a few pictures to get the creating juices start running.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning/afternoon ladies!
Jaye, sorry to hear about the uproar at MIL house! Sounds like someone, maybe a few of them need to put both feet down and tell her a few things!
Lanakila glad you found us here!
Please show us some of your plants, would love to see what you have growing!

Pegi, glad to hear you went to your round up, and had a good time!

I had a wonderful time at our round up too. There were about a dozen of us there, some brought hubbies, and a few older kids! It was a wonderful time,

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

i'm fine sis jaye. my daughter in hospital, so I have kaden. didn't realize I missed him so much until now
Michael was home for the week end, and we worked non-stop.
we got one of my flower beds ready to plant. finished getting the rest of our things from the old house, put the tv stand together(that was a 3 hour episode!)
got the BIG medicine cabnit up in my bathroom, got everything unpacked. you can now walk threw the house, but not my walk in closet.
everything is in there now I have to start sorting threw it.
muffin is on allergy shots, cuz nothing else worked. vet said he was too young for shots but thought there was no other alternative. we can't have him ripping his hair out by the roots

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What's wrong with your daughter Kathy? Praying it is nothing serious!

Sounds like your still working hard getting the new house organized?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

she has had kidney stones for 2 weeks. she wouldn't stay in the hospital 2 weeks ago, now they are to big to pass. she's having surgery tomorrow
I don't think this house will ever be organized. if I ever sell this place I am leaving everything in it, dishes, furniture ect. and buying all new. I will not go threw this again

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear that, praying for a speedy recovery for her.

Here are a few pictures of the round up I went to.
Ladies sitting around, talking and eating. 2nd picture several of us got to feed the baby goats.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

'Mornin...where is the coffee?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Marion, fresh pot is brewing, it will done in a few!
How are things going for you?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Cindy, do you remember the clematis you sent a few years ago in a swap? It is blooming! My very first clematis bloom, and I love it so much!

Thumbnail by taters55
(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the coffee LK. Things are a roller coaster still. Sue and I are exhausted!!!!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Try to get some rest Marion!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

(((((((((hugs marion))))))))
linda, all my clematis were blooming when I moved. I couldn't get them untangled to dig them up. just broke my heart

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I came home to a wonderful surprise. My amaryllis (which I was about to dig and relocate) bloomed! Some of them are the size of luncheon plates....never seen them this large. I need to have Kim forward me the picture she took while I was south so I can post it. 23 blooms in all and more to open. Guess they stay put now.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What a wonderful surprise to come home too! How is your Mom doing Marion?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Up and down LK. She completely baffles the Hospice people that she is still with us as she eats less than a 1/2 cup daily. Doesn't drink very much but continues........ They are the ones who told me I should come on home as well as Sue needs to continue with her activities. We have been with her but in the words. " both of you have your own responsibilities and we needed to take care of them".

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning!!

Days been beautiful even though we've been having showers and expeciting more. Don't think I'll need the ark, as the rains aren't heavy, just enough to water the plants and give my rambunctious cats extra sleep!

Lana, when I first moved here, there were holes everywhere made by those voles. At that time we had only one cat, and the job was too big for him. Now, with so many rescues, his work's made easier. No more new holes and we don't see any rodents scurrying around either. May they keep resting in pieces!!
Curious to know what you've salvaged at your garden stores.

Oh Pegi.. I know how you feel about being in the midst of serious gardeners!! Maybe that's why I avoided RUs and would rather go to a more relaxed atmosphere like a sistahs' gathering! Lolol!!
Darwin needed a new 'scene' and you need the distraction!

Sis Kathy, you really have more than enough on your plate do you? Don't you go ignoring yourself and get a relapse. Okay.. gonna bite my tongue..

Marion, hugs to you my friend. Your mind must be ovewhelmed with 2 'homes'. Do what you can for your mum, but if you don't do for yourself, no one could.

LK, if my thoughts could be made to come true, I'll be in handcuffs!! Lolol!!! Both sons and Murdock have had their balls chopped by MIL!! Maybe that's why these sons married strong women? We are the only ones that dare confront her. Which isn't good for our husbands as they get the brunt!!!
Think it's from years of abuse at her hands that they find it hard to break that chain. I pray that one of them don't snap and kill that woman!

The amaryllis here have quit blooming. We have a new parade of irises, clematis and I see blossoms on the apple tree.
LK, that clematis looks like a NIobe. It's blooming right now.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My clematis is called Ville de lyon.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

It's beautiful LK! You have to get more clematis now!

Pegi, I don't know why I kept saying Samsung, but the camera is a Sanyo.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

sis jaye, I am just fine!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Jaye, Hospice told both of us girls that we needed to start taking care of ourselves and respective homes. We have done all we can do and sadly mom is starting to get abusive with Sue. Been there, done that and now she has turned on Sue....I do think it is because she is "out of it so much of the time".

Tonight when Kim gets home we have the wonderful (NOT!) pleasure of buying a new dryer. Ours died and from researching parts on the internet...it seems cheaper to buy a new one, especially when you add the $100.00 fee to just come to our house.

Wish we could get a little of the rain here, things look dry inspite of Kim watering all my containers.

hello everyone
sorry been MIA
sounds like everyone is doing well.
sorry to hear of Doug's strenght and not able to get his bike up. Sounds like a new chapter in the book of life for him and you .
Have fun at the RU LK.
Kathy yikes kidney stones ? not fun. speedy recovery for her. sending healing energy to her . hope surgery goes well
Sending you love Marion , that is not easy to watch our parents . wishing and sending you strenght
well got to make it quick
been busy busy

Holly Springs, NC(Zone 7b)

LK, this is what I ended up bringing home from the orphan pile at the garden center:
'Dr. Ruppel' Clematis
Echis 'Daydream' and 'Pink Double Delight'
Goldcrest Foxglove 'Waldigone'
Persian Cornflower 'Rosea'
Veronicas 'Royal Candles' and 'Purpleicious'
Strawberry Foxglove
Rudbeckia 'Henry Eilers'
Salvia 'Caradonna'
Spiderwort 'Blueberry Sundae'

I also 'accidentally' picked up a variegated lonicera. Not something I'd plant, but I'm no fan of honeysuckle in general.

Pegi, the Carolinas RU is in a month and I'm a little chicken to go. I 'dabble' in gardening and am quite intimidated by the idea of going to hang out with serious gardeners. Oh well...there's a big craft fair there the same day so if I get a case of shy I'll just run away to that!

My hunters kitties have lost their hunting licenses! Those little beasties did nothing but cry and cry and cry until I let them out of the crawlspace. They were all whiny because the hunting trip was MY idea. Had they escaped outside and ended up in the crawlspace they'd probably never come out. Of course that would have been THEIR idea, so they'd have thought it was ok. Ornery beasts!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

All those plants sounds very pretty!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Hi Lana, go to the round up if you can, I'm not a serious gardener like most of them, but I do enjoy the conversation and good company. Even a beginner is always welcomed. Now, I would try and make it to both the RU and craft show. I dabble around in crafts too, but I enjoy playing in the dirt a lot even though so many things don't make it under my careful eye. Just not enough time to do all the things I want to do. Then of course, my reading has to have time too.

Going to have to go to Lowe's and get more potting soil not that I have more plants. Just dug out 2 old iron chairs from among all the junk that I want to clean up, paint and turn into planters. Just need to find someone to clean my house now. LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Marion, if yours is a Maytag. yes, you're better off getting a new one. Happy hunting!
Poor Sue, I bet she just take it all in. Hope she won't develop ulcers.

Lana, I don't think you'd stay shy too long at any gathering where there are DGers. Most if not all are pretty warm folks. WYSIWYG in real life.
I depend a lot on my DH to bring me around, that's one reason I missed all the Carolina RUs.
Besides, I'm closer to Myrtle Beach.. and I'm too lazy to dig up plants nor propogate for something to share at an RU.
Looks like you're set for more beauties in your garden. From your list, I need to try growing foxgloves, but am wondering if they're poisonous.

Pegi!!! In my hurry to get the camera out to you, I had forgotten to include the 8mb SD card!!! Will get it out in the mail as soon as Kel's able to find some hours off within the next few days.

Thundering now.. catch you all later. Got to take pics of more irises before the rains hit!

Hi Sue!! We miss you.. no more cheetos my sistah!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Foxglove plant is where they get digitalis from. It is poisonous, as are most plants.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digitalis

Scroll down a bit where it says Toxicity.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi Ladies,
I am wore out!!! Been cleaning fish ponds!!!

Doug came in 3rd Place in the Rib Cook Off!!! Yay, but the guy who asked him to do it and used his bar business to enter the Cook Off, did not even share the prize with Doug. So now Doug will not have anything to do with him. This is not the first him Rob (the guy) has done something like this to Doug. So Doug says we will have a booth of our own next year. He knows of a woman whose sister owns a bar and she LOVED Doug's Ribs!!!!

I am going to be clening out my craft room and shed here. I will be getting rid of a lot of crafting stuff. I will post pictures of what I have and if any of you would like some of the stuff I will sell it to you cheap plus postage............I just am not interested in doing a lot of different crafts anymore, just sewing, making candles and painting odds and ends. Lots of craft magazines..............................

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Jaye, I don't know what a 8mb SD card is, kind of dumb with cameras. LOL

Cincy, I hear you, I have a lot of craft stuff too and not interested like I used to be. I need to go through all my things too, would make room in cupboards in garage if I did. I worked a lot with plastic canvas and I have so much, but always say I'm going to start it up again.

Cutting back more vine again today. This time It was in the space behind the ugly tin shed. I cut back a lot that I could reach, filled up the green waste barrel and starting on the 2nd one. I think I spent a couple hours out there today, at least I cleaned up a lot of dried up leaves. If it grows back there it is going to stay that way. Just too much work. Hoping the gardeners that clean up the mini mall behind us will take the hint when they see all that vine hanging down off the fence. I have a few aches & pains now, but expect that when I start playing among the weeds. Didn't get to Lowe's to get more potting soil, but have some here to start re-potting some plants. Then starting cleaning up my metal chairs. I have all these projects I want to do, but it all take time.
