Marion, that must be a Florida things, as the bud light bottles here are brown.
best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends
Hey LK...it is a new blend of Bud Light...Bud Light Platinum..comes in cobalt blue bottles...the regular Bud Light is still in brown bottles.
Marion, I just need to get the "bucket" in gear before I get too old to enjoy the trip....it would certainly be easier on the body to only have a flight to NY and then 7 hours to UK...as opposed to the 17+ hours to AU. I succumb to motion sickness and flying is NOT my favorite thing to do...grin
Brown bottles here as well..put that guilt trip on DS Marion, they know it's a guilt trip but I think sometimes enjoy doing things mom appreciates. Know that is the way with Greg!
Wouldn't it be nice if you could tag along with Kim?
I leave here on the 22nd..likely start driving north the Wednesday/Thursday so I'd be home for Easter.
Have you been driving a bit to get used to it before heading south?? we'll likely be passing each other like ships in the night..drats, thought we might meet this time.
Jean, can certainly understand your wanting to take the trip to Australia first..wow that is an extra long flight. Bucket list, hmmm not sure what would be on mine? Better think about it before I end up too old and forget what they would be.
Chilly in here today, maybe mall turned down the heat a bit thinking spring was here but I'm shivering..so glad to have the quilt with me, acts twofold, get to do the binding and keeps me warm.
Think everyone is pushing for spring...tired of the cold and wet and just plain miserable weather.
Oh, checked out the Bud Light Platinum...for about $15 you can get a 12 pack of the blue bottles...personally I would pour the beer into the compost and keep the bottles...grin
lol, will have to be on the lookout when I'm in Fort Myers next week..you know I've never taste beer..I'm often asked to try it, well if I've made 65 years without it why start now..
Maybe we can have a going away party before heading north and can pas around the beer..
no wonder your gardens are spectacular if you are feeding compost beer Jean..
Best I do with beer is baste my turkey, burns off but makes the turkey nice and moist..wonder if that constitutes having a beer
ROFLOL, Jean I thought the same thing. It would be cheaper for me to buy a package, pour out the beer and have the bottles. However, I do have a supplier. Just might buy her some just as a thank you gift for her old bottles.
Betty, I do think you are right about sons. Mine complains but then when he does something it is done extremely well. The new legs he bult for my cutting table for a Christmas present are actually nicer than the table. Not complaining as I am sentimentally attached to the table. Just an odd quirk of mine.
Driving, well yes as a matter of fact I was driving around town until my appointment with the Opthamologist last Friday. In short, I failed the eye test!! Duh!!! I knew I needed to have the cataract removed in my left eye but with mom's situation, I had been putting it off. Nope, no can do now. I couldn't read any further down than the second row from the big "E" and the eye that was done has gotten worse. In short, I was told not to drive until after repairs are done. The eye that has been done is a minor lazer issue but the left eye will have the works on April 4th. Sort of did it to myself by waiting.
Oh no Marion, then you will not be able to drive yourself down to see your mom right? Should have looked after YOU..not good.
Last day today for Zellers (version of your Target Store) which is closing due to Target moving in the area.
Store almost empty however they did have bra's..some $44.00 they were 2 for $5, I bought 4 only because that is all that was in my size..might had done better had I been early this a.m. but just took my lunch...racks were full and ladies were gathering like crazy picking and happy about the price.
What a sale!! I don't think our Target stores carry items that expensive in the clothing area but then I haven't been in a while. Both stores are on the side of town that we very rarely go to unless we are on our way to Costco.
Kim is going to take me down for a few days as it is her spring break. I won't be able to drive until after I have recovered and my new glasses come. So according to the doctor, most likely be in May. We shall see. Yes, I should have done the left eye 2 weeks afterwards but that was at a time mom was "touch and go". Now I am backed into a corner and have to have it done. Oh well, such is life.
do they take your driving permit away???
NO, as I scheduled surgery that day. Not sure what would happened if I hadn't scheduled. Funny thing is, I feel like I see everything.......just wierd!
Best be safe than sorry..
Paul had an errand for me, meant meeting his girls in Midland..now home
Will work from home tomorrow then head out to Bowmanville Saturday, say we'll have snow, hoping they are in error..
oh Marion! Maybe you have problems with long distance, but not short distance?
Glad you're getting it looked after now!
We have some blustery snow, but not much - just blowing about.
Supposed to get "2 Clippers with snow, and strong wind gusts"......
Baked the new loaf of Cranberry bread, and BOY did it rise!! It rose to the glass at the top of the Bread Maker! I used bread flour and the new bread yeast I bought, but otherwise everything else is the same - just big! Now going to make Buttermilk bread..............
Make some scones, and took them plus double Devonshire cream and strawberry jam to Bible Study this am - went over well :-)
Only 7 of us, but did bring some home out of the 2 1/2 dozen, of course.

Weather Liars are predicting snow overnight here Betty and then rain tomorrow afternoon. Considering it is a very cold -19* here right now rain seems a little far fetched. Will you take #7 or across the 401? Whatever route drive safely.
Susan how did the second batch of bread turn out?
Have Bronchitis. Doc has Rxed a script and I already have my puffers and cough medicine.
Marian how is your knee now? Best of luck with your eye surgery. You know you were just doing what you thought was best earlier on, now is the time to take care of you.
Katie sending positive thoughts your way. That is an enormous amount of pressure to be living under with the worry of your land. Most people would have caved and there you are getting through the day. Good for you! Have things settled town with the dog that bites when surpised? I am sorry but for the life of me I can't remember the poor dog's name.Bruno comes to mind but that could be because I was just listening to a CD by Bruno Mars. Not my usual blues music but a nice change for a dull afternoon.
LK I thought of Luna today. I was in the village and saw an old friend. I stopped to yak a few minutes with her and she showed me her GS rescue. Gorgeous dog - or will be once she gets some loving from Lynn.
I don't feel much like toshing down the lane with Diesel today and he is letting me know just what he thinks of that idea. I took him on a short walk this morning but the cold air makes me really cough. Darn.... can't believe I am have a cold/bronchitis this late in the season. Here I thought I was going to get through the winter flu/cold free. He is a little stinker and doesn't want to stay outside without me beside him. Yep I guess you could say he is a tad spoiled. lol
Time for another nap. Can't believe how tired I am today.
Dianne
Dianne - it turned out fabulously! I bought some bread flour, and the new yeast, and it actually rose a LOT higher than expected. Touched the top of the glass in the bread maker.....
Now I'm going to make some Buttermilk bread......
Luna is doing good Dianne, so sorry your not feeling well to go for a walk with Diesel! Make sure you get plenty of rest.
Susan, glad to hear your bread turned out! I think I can smell it down here?
it's got almonds, cranberry juice, and zest of an orange... so soft, tall & handsome!
Susan, can smell the bread from here..did you ever talk to the Toronto based company.
Dianne, I'm not sure which way to take, taking 400/401 says 2 hrs 10 minutes..taking the back way 2 1/2 hrs.. Even thought of taking 400 to 407.. Think 407 comes out far end of Tornto then take 7 straight through..do know coming home though if not too late will take 401 so that I can stop at Lens Fabric mill in Toronto..
Sorry to hear you are unwell, why is it every time we get to end of winter and think we've made it without a cold/flu it sneaks up on us..glad you have meds and puffer, sure is a bad strain..wish there was someone with you other than Diesel to make sure you've soup amnd you rest.
Bet Diesel watches your every move thinking you are taking him for a walk..
Bitter cold here, not as cold as you though, think it was -7 on my way home..it's the winds making it feel so much colder.
Met up with nieces, Cindy said it was the first time she saw my new car, I laughed, between mud, salt it's grey vs orange
The 407 does come out on the east end of Toronto. In fact I think it goes at least to Whitby now. If it isn't too far north you might be better if taking the 407 to go down to Hwy 2 and take to Bowmanville. I think #7 is quite a bit north of Bowmanville.
UPS just arrived so have my new fix of books and DVDs. I was needing a new book - not that there aren't books to read in this house, just none that catch my fancy.
Oh Susan I have no appetite but that bread sounds so good as did the scones.
Thinking about Debbie today and hoping the tests were not too hard on her.
Dianne
Susan, are you still talking about the bread?? Lol
Know 407 is costly but might be the best bet...they did say Hwy2 is what they are on, right next to Morris or Morrison funeral home..
Same here, house full of magazines/books and I'm always looking for something different..wish I had $$$ I spend on patterns/craft books in the bank, likely I could retire. Lol
Will do you good to cover yourself up, get a good book and heal.
Tasted the bread, and it sure was good!
No, haven't heard from the Toronto company.......
Dianne, seems like it is the same down here....one last bad sinus infection/cold before it turns really warm. Right now everything is under a very heavy layer of yellow pollen. Temps are nice but don't dare open the windows as there is enough pollen that drifts in as is.
thanks for asking about my knee. It is doing great....do need to keep up with my exercises and putting the gel prescribed on daily. Just so grateful I got a doctor who doesn't believe on "rushing" into surgery. I do have to go in every now and then to have it drained but that is minor in comparison. Please take care of yourself....what you need is a good trip south and some sunshine!!!!
Susan, the bread does sound good. BTW I assume your were referring to me about having trouble with long distance not short distances. Or do we have a Marilyn in the group?
A group of us single ladies had planned dinner out tonight followed by a movie but had a last minute cancellation. So we all cancelled..not much fun when 1 of the group is missing. Just gives us something to look forward to later.
Now I need to see what I can do about dinner tonight.......hummm, wonder if I can be convince Kim to have left over chicken gorgonzola.
Dianne...I didn't realize you are a blues fan. Have you heard any Joe Bonamassa?

Marion, would be dreadful if one was prone to allergies. Sounds as though you have been behaving Marion for you to have healed as well as you have, just goes to show us what can happen when we listen.
Is going out with the girls a monthly thing? What is Gorgonzola? I visualize a prehistoric creature laying on a plate. Lol
Think Susan in all her baking got a thread mixed up..
Ooooh Jean, just love blues music, what a great link..will play it for Suzanne..we bought a few cd's when we were on Beall Street in Memphis last year and the year before as well.
sorry Marion - I edited the thread.
Just tired today...... this week actually. My mind is still going on my mom and how she's going to take the move from her home of 52 years.......
That, and trying for a job, etc......
Me too, Betty. DH and I are fortunate enough to get to work the Blues Festival every year....lotta great music there...
The one and only, Johnny Winter
http://www.youtube.com/artist/johnny-winter
Hi Everyone, I just woke up from another long afternoon nap. It's now quite hot here once the sun comes up. Not much spring weather this year. Went from winter to summer.
Max the biter has been better. The bite on the side of my hand is almost all healed. I am still very careful when he is asleep. He is better but still snaps sometimes. When awake, he is sweet and fun loving but sleep brings out survival issues.
I'm still sleepy. And I want a scone.
hugs, katie
Betty, gorgonzola is a cheese similar to bleu cheese. I make a white sauce and add that to it.
Yes, but I will admit the exercises were hard at times but Kim was watching me to see that I did them. I do have some trouble walking as the knee clicks but the doctor said that would happen. If I over do it, then it hurts. Just have to plan my days and activities.
Understand Susan. I thought for a moment I had missed some one who had joined us. I haven't been on the thread in a few days.
Katie, I agree, a scone would be really good about now. I think I will go make myself some hot tea instead.
I have some scones here....... with Devonshire double cream and strawberry jam.
Please help yourself!
Munching on Scones... Thank you Susan ! DSGF was mentioning the other day that she would like to try to cook scones....
Speaking of cooking... I've always wanted to try Corned beef... someone on here once gave me a recipe. Jean that party sounds much more up my alley.... but I have some selfish reasons for wanting to mix with the 70808 crowd. If DS and DSGF want to drive there with me so so so early in the morning (the parade starts at 10am and streets are closed off before that) then I'll have more motivation to go....
I have to decide tomorrow to RSVP. Remember grandma saying we had some Scots in us... but no Irish....
Dianne.. . YOU Please get well... I've half a mind to send Diesel a toy... a sucker I am for the doggies.... Belle has stolen a rattle from our niece's little girl from last weekend's party..... it's almost demolished !
Marion I LOVE Gorgonzola cheese.... I really have not met a cheese I didn't like... but would love that recipe !
Hang in there Katie.... surely it will all turn out okay... and maybe Max just needs some calmer times in his life....and that you are providing him but it takes time...
Betty... what are the dates for your Florida travel? I need to call Judy again... haven't heard from her...
Hugs
Mary
Mary - I have a recipe for 7-day corned beef - would you like it?
I would LOVE it Susan !
Morning all, look at the time, I'm still in bed playing lazy..getting up though!
Mary, a week today I'll be in Florida. am sure Judy said she would be in your neck of the woods last week of March?? Off to the parade you go, once there you will enjoy..
Kyle's class, 50 of them, are marching in the parade in Newport RI sure wish I could see that !!! way back ages ago, I was in the color guard of a fife and drum corp...marched in many a St Patty's parade...
ohhhh Johnny Winter...now there's some good music!!! saw him in concert a few times, he was wonderful. Joe sounds pretty good too :)
cranberry bread sounds delightful...hmmmm will have to ask hubs to make some.
many hugs to Dianne, and Katie..............hope you both feel better soon. I am still sounding quite hoarse... telling myself I love oak trees, yard, truck...everything covered in pollen.....
don't like the cold weather at all, but glad for it right now, as I really want to get out and do some yard work, butttttt can not with all of the pollen....one does NEED to breathe. LOL
Good Morning.
Mary, I can understand in your business wanting to mix with the 70808's grin. We have friends that live on Stanford and in Magnolia Woods and Oak Hills. Here we do what DH calls Cajun Irish corned beef. I use a TBS of liquid crab boil and add a couple onions and some garlic to the pot. When the beef is cooked, we skim the broth, add potatoes to it and put cabbage wedges in the steamer above it....I cheat on a cheese sauce...use a can of Campbells cheddar soup, a little milk and a dash or two of chipotle...when we manage leftovers, I run it all through the food processor (except the cheese sauce) and make Reuben soup served with crusty French Bread drizzled with cheese sauce.
Hang in there Marion...things will get better...and you'll be able to see...grin The Gorgonzola chicken sounds great...I wish I could eat the "moldy" cheeses like Bleu, Camembert, and Gorgonzola, but they all trigger my allergy to penicillin????
Thunder, there is something close to awe felt when the music legends I grew up with are standing two feet away gabbing about the great jambalaya you just gave them....grin. I am exceptionally grateful for the opportunities I have had to meet so many folks whose music has scored my life....never would I have thought I would be sharing a table with the likes of Johnny Winter, John Mayall, Tabby Thomas, Buddy Guy, Marsha Ball, Irma Thomas, Katie Wright....and the list spans 20 years.
Hope you all have a lovely day.
Jean
Mary - here you go:
Homemade Corned Beef
Ingredients:
10 cups water
1 1/2 cups kosher salt
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons dry mustard
3 tablespoons pickling spices
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 fresh beef brisket, 7 to 9 pounds
Preparation:
Combine water, salt, sugar, mustard, spices, and 3 cloves minced garlic in an 8-quart nonreactive stock pot. Bring to a boil over high heat. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. When liquids have cooled, trim the corned beef of excess fat and put into the liquid. You may need to transfer the liquids and corned beef to a larger container or bowl, just make sure it is nonreactive. If necessary, add more cold water to cover the beef. Using a heavy pottery bowl or a few small bowls, weigh the corned beef down so it will stay submerged in the water. Cover the pan and refrigerate for 5 to 7 days in the refrigerator. Take out once a day to stir lightly, and turn the beef as needed.
On the 6th or 7th day, remove the beef from the brine and rinse well with cold water.
I don't make it anymore, as it makes a lot of corned beef for 2 people.....
NOW OPEN, come and check it out!

What is 70808??
What memories you have Jean, meeting all these artists..when do you work the blues show again? Shortly right?
Susan that is one tremendous amount of work to make the handmade corn beef..I'll pass, unless it's a 10 minute fix you kow me it's a no go but bet its delicious as can be.Love hearing you all gab about the different foods though, I'm not a picky eater but I tend not to want to try something new..know I'm missing out on a lot.
Wonder how Debbie is making out?
Deb, did we frighten you away?
70808 is the zip code for a portion of the city of Baton Rouge...one of the first areas of the city proper. The Blues Fest will be in late April early May, not sure of the date just yet.
