Glad Mary you are home and enjoying the day..hated to think of you battling the masses..

I'm flitting from project to project..just finished sewing together another 2 sets of 6 Christmas placemats..almost at the end of them..starting to say yukk yukk but as they were cut and I wanted to start something new, thought I should..

Kitties are napping, enjoying the day, heads up when I pass near but neither have any intention of joining me downstairs..

Next project for my nephew..now that I've cleaned up somewhat time for lunch then will see what step 1 is..

must go check the turkey..wouldn't want to burn it

Riley has a VERY special blanket!! Missy looks comfy for sure.

Yes, keep an eye on that turkey! Is your fire extinguisher nearby? lol

Floors mopped downstairs...now need to attack upstairs and bathroom. Ugh. Girls not due here til 5:00 ish.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I think I see my block in that black and white quilt :-) ♥♥♥

Victoria Harbour, ON

Likely it is Thunder, used them all up in the red/white/black throw for my bed..you are home today? Imagine Walmart will be empty with all the football parties going on.

Debbie, believe his blankie is left over from the Debbie Daisy quilt..comfortable indeed..

I'm sitting on the chesterfield reading the eagle pattern..sun feels wonderful..sure shows me windows need a cleaning. First line in the package says 'read entire instructions before starting' now who reads instructions?? Will give it a try, sometimes I'm better at faking it. Lol

Just put turnip on so thought upstairs is the place for me. Again cooking enough to feed 8..will give Ann a call

Stop hogging that sun Betty! It is snowing quite heavily here and has been for a couple of hours. Maybe this is the snow we were supposed to get on Friday and didn't.

Diesel is sound asleep and has been for over an hour. A friend of ours came this morning and brought his Rottie 'Thor' to romp with Diesel. It sure did Diesel good and certainly made me smile for a bit while watching them play. Steve and Thor accompanied Diesel and I on a walk this morning and the dogs has a blast. Diesel and I walked those 2 guys into the ground. lol Steve has a very physical job but no cardio is involved so he found the walking especially at my speed quite the work out. At 1 point in jest he said to me "Are we almost home?" I think he, Thor and Diesel needed a drink of water. Dogs can eat the snow but I don't think Steve would be too anxious to try that. Should have remembered to take some bottles of water with me. After we got back Steve fixed a few things around the house that I couldn't do myself. This having an 'adopted' son willing to do any chore I ask is wonderful!!

Thinking about buying a new TV since I am watching it more and purchasing more DVDs. The one I watch the most we bought way over 20 years ago and the second TV downstairs is even older. Any suggestions about what to purchase? I have no idea and there seems to be a lot of new features .... like what is a Plasma TV? Why it different from the other tvs? Betty do you have Netflix? I understand there is a big difference between the US/Can options on Netflix.

Think I will stoke the fire and try having a nap. Not much sleep going on her at night.... sure do miss my sweet Quill. I don't know how many times I reached down to pat during the night. Made 2 bowls of kibble this morning .... guess it will take time for it to sink in especially when doing the automatic chores that involved both of the dogs.

OK, how many here will be watching the Super Bowl for the game itself ? I didn't even know it was on until I saw the listing for Super Bowl commercials in the TV guide. Yep I am a big fan!!

Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, Plasma TV's are now almost ancient. They still make them, but the newest is LCD and or LCD/LED TV's.

When you go shopping, make sure you ask a lot of questions.

Also be careful when it says high definition. Unless you have a cable box that has hi def show's, your picture will be on the blurry side.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sent it to you Dianne, doesn't take long for a room to cool when it's back behind the clouds. You are ambitious just getting out in this cold let alone go walking..kiddos to you and Steve for doing it.

Got dressed to go to Walmart, took warm clothes from the dryer..always have a tennis ball in the dryer, helps fluff the clothing..guess when I folded the clothes I wasn't wearing the ball fell to the floor, got emotional, now had Sailor been sitting there she would have brought it right back to me..sure do miss her..Quill will be with you for some time. Glad you have someone to depend on when it's things you cannot do for yourself.

I do have Netflix, mostly for my iPad at work..watched the series Numbrs from start to finish last week.. get to watch it from time to time as it goes through the wii terminal, bit with Rogers anywhere you go its a 1/2 and 1/2 usage

Called my brother this morning, asked when he was coming to do that little room I want finished, says he is just not very energetic...hmmm that being the case I shall look for someone..been over a year I've been waiting..tired of being patient..sure do miss Darlene's Mike

Spoke with Sharon this mornimg, she has navy flannel for me, now to get it to me lol. At least the flannel I an Suse. She is leaving this week for the New York Westminster dog show, wanted me to go with her, all forget I do have a job, might be a do nothing job but still need to be there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great suggestions LindaKay..think footage has a lot to do with what you buy size wise..measure distance from where tv is and to where you sit and watch it.. Who would know there is somuch to think of when purchasing a tv

Verona, ON

Aw thanks LK I was wondering about the HD. I noticed when browsing online that some were HD and some were not. You have to pay extra to my satellite provider to have HD. LOL at the plasma being almost ancient, sort of like me and getting electronics. I have neighbours who do not have a computer, or satellite (they use a tower) or even an answering machine. No they aren't Amish they just don't think they need such things. To them they think I am very hich tech, almost a geek.

How is Dylan feeling today?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Big smile as to being a geek..who would have thought!

I depend on the boys..didn't really need this tv I got but the boys thought the one I thought was perfectly ok to be one of the first tv's on the market..NOT

Lyndonville, NY

Dianne, don't get a plasma. It has a "life span" more so than others as the plasma actually dies off in it much sooner. We have a VIZEO brand and
I am not thrilled with it. WIsh I would have picked the Sharp or Sony...but they are higher end. Picture is amazing though.

Verona, ON

Since Warren was going to go to the Emperor of Japan to raise a fuss about a Sharp VCR we bought I have tended to stay away from Sharp products. My goodness that man was some ticked off at Sharp. That was way back in the 1970's and Sharp was a new brand here in Canada.

Glad you mentioned the Vizeo brand Debbie. I saw that WM had them in their online ads.

Why do I think this whole purchase is going to be even more confusing then buying new tires for the Escape? Exhausting too I bet!

Have fun this afternoon Debbie with everyone there!

Mary and Marion...too welcome for the info on Phaius orchids. Betty....they do fine in a pot outside...just put them somewhere inside during the winter where they won't freeze. The will more than likely go dormant like the Chinese ground orchids Bletilla striata. Mine Bletillas are out in one of the beds and they come back year after year. I do so wish I could put these 30 odd other orchids outside year round. I am getting to the point where if it won't survive in the ground...it may not be around much longer.

Dianne, hugs to you....after a year, I still find myself looking for Chester, my sweet boy Springer Spaniel....feel dumb, then sad, then thankful for the devoted love he gave so freely. I agree, you are indeed blessed to have Steve around.

Oh, we just had to replace our TV a few months ago. We got a Sanyo 32 inch LCD with HD capability for $250 at WalMart. We can watch HD or regular programming and picture is clear on either. On regular programming, the only difference is the picture does not fill the entire screen, there is a small black band on either side, but that is of no bother to us as we had a 25 inch TV before...has to do with the way the signal is sent.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/20659573?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=21486607510&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem

As a general rule, the LCD (Liquid Crystal Diode) is less expensive than the LED (Light emitting Diode). Most laptop monitors are LCD displays. Here is a bit of info on the differences.

Dianne, Paul said definitely NO VIZEO. He hates it, and if the kids hadn't gotten it for him...he would have returned it. Jeanna & Joe have one
also and have trouble with it.

Paul said he would go for a SONY if budget wasn't a issue......but if budget is an issue....he would go with a Samsung. Carrie has the Samsung
and the picture is very very nice. The flat panel LCD is your best bet....not a plasma (I am being dictated too. lol)

My input...we have a 42 inch...and with my failing vision...it is great for that.

My SF was a TV repairman, so I lived with the TV brands since age 9. Sharp was always the "best" and we had one up until this...never a problem.

Speaking of tv, sitting tracing my eagle onto fabric and watching movie about Ray Charles .. Really enjoying it..

Verona, ON

Really about the Sharp? Of course maybe we got a lemon but I have shied away from that brand since we bought a Sharp VCR in 1971. Heavens Warren was so ticked off with the machine he was going directly to the Emperor of Japan to complain. Man he was some ticked off - spitting fire if I remember correctly. I will look carefully at the Sony tvs. Since I buy one so rarely and am getting so much more enjoyment put of watching TV and DVDs I don't mind paying more if needed.
Think I will go wake Diesel up so he is not rocking and rolling at 3 am when I am ready to fall asleep.

The snow is now so heavy you can't see across the lake. Debbie, you and Paul would definitely not enjoy sitting on the dock today. Tell Paul the Cowboy steak was excellent on the Foreman grill. The first one I cooked I had on too long - first time I had used the Foreman grill so I had no idea temp wise. Second time the steak was perfect and tasted as good as the one Paull BBQ'd here.

I got my son and his family a 40" Samsung for Christmas.....they love it. I bought it at Costco and it was around $400.00.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is quite a bargain Marion...Jeff gave me a Sony and I'm quite satisfied with it

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ours is a Sony too! No complaints here.

mulege, Mexico

I have a Samsung I got at Costco and it's fine. I listen as much as I watch; both sound and picture are good for me

Much as I miss the billowing snow (not!!!) I am at the puter wearing only a t-shirt and drinking freshly-made Ruby Red grapefruit juice. Perfect weather with my usual view of the Sea of Cortez.

Lazy Sunday. I think Quill stopped by on the way to the rainbow bridge to hassle my dogs a bit. They had a barkathon but are all napping now.

hugs, katie

Well, it has been a busy week and I am glad for a quiet weekend. Stacey went into labor last Saturday night, and they fiddled around until Tuesday night when they sent her home. She was very uncomfortable all day Wednesday with labor pains and around 10:30 pm her water broke. they got into the hospital and Alexandra came at 1:00 am on 1/31/13! She was 8 lbs and 20 " and the Dr. called her "chubby cheeks and thunder thighs". Turns out she has a touch of diabetes with blood sugar low so she is in the NICU for a few days. They are working on getting Stacey on a blood thinner pill and she is going home tonight. We are all thrilled that everything went so well and both Mom and baby are doing so well.
I have been running up and down to Toledo multiple times this past week as well as having a sleep study Thursday night. Was supposed to go up Saturday but we had a big snow storm; dumped only several inches but it was wet and driving was terrible. I stayed home and sent things up with my DIL who was taking Jonathan up to spend time with Daddy. He had been in Findlay with my other son for the past week and this next one also. I had to go out and get some sleepers as our girl is out of Newborn and in 0-3 at 8 lbs.
Thanks to LK and Betty for the gifts. Now that Stacey will be home and the swelling has gone down in her hands and arms she is looking forward to sending "thank you" notes. She really appreciated your thoughtfulness.
LK so glad that Dylan is home and I home things get back to normal there. It is so difficult when they are so young.
We are getting more snow tomorrow and Tuesday so I am home with a new quilt project to work on. I finished everything before Christmas and I was looking for a project. I promised a neighbor that I would make a quilt for her and now is the time. She wants just navy blue and white but two different blocks so it should be fun to work on. Don't know how much I will be able to get done after I have my surgery in March
so I will see. I think they will keep me busy with PT and walking while I am at the Center for rehab.
Hope everyone else is warm and not on the roads in the areas that are snow covered as we are.

Hello All;

Thanks againfor the advice Jean.. good thing I went out to look at my nuns orchid... I saw 5 "almost" blooms on there 2 were not able to grow straight too close to another pot... so I moved it... hopefully they will straighten out
Betty - those are beautiful colors... don't you wish we could sleep as well as the furries ? I think Jeff is pretty high tech so I'd say maybe Sony but I'm reading a book right now comparing "visionary companies" and Sony is one of them. (Disney, HP, Ford,Merck etc.)
Hubs says ours is Panasonic... we've had ours about 7 years now... but it is a plasma and hubs said don't get a plasma LOL.... I have the 2013 Consumers Digest somewhere I'll look for you.
So nice to have a friend to bring over a buddy for Diesel. Betty how do you cook your turnip?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning all,

Well did your team win?? Enjoy the commercials?

Debbie, got your fluffy snow last night, no snow day though..seeing a sun dog in the sky this mornimg so perhaps I will mid week.

Almost like going on holidays. Packed a bag with a set of placemats for hand sewing binding and what fabrics I have for the eagle, will have fun doing cutouts lol..ahhh another hard day at the office.

Janice, such good news, only thing that will help now is if Chris gets the job, maws the interview not on Saturday. Mind wasn't in the right room, should have bought a few sizes bigger, what a big baby, am sure Stacey is thrilled it's all behind her..hopefully within weeks she'll be completely recovered! Guess you are not looking forward to the March operation but just think, once you've done the physical therapy you'll be as good as new.

Mary I simply boil, mash, add brown sugar (good amount) few cooked carrots, butter, salt and pepper. Finding turnips this year are more bitter than usual...

Debbie, I didn't burn supper..aren't you proud of me?

Katie, hope you sent along our hugs when Quill past by..perhaps not, am sure she was in a hurry to meet up with Santa Warren! Sea of Cortez, could I pull up a chair and enjoy the view as well?

Wonder how our Judy is feeling today after the big Bahamama Party Saturday night.

Best I have some porridge, get dressed and off to start my week

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

So nice to see Janice post with the good news about Tink and the baby. For those who don't know...hard to explain the entire thread but when I first started Stacey posted something and from then on I have called her Tink! My pet name for a very sweet young lady.

Today is my Mom's 94th birthday but when my sister got to the nursing home it was not good news. M is running a high fever, delirious, vomiting and calling out for Sue. Apparently from what Sue can find out, mom was calling for her all day yesterday but no one called her. Sorry friends but I am sure there are going to be some harsh words said there today.

A PA for Hospice has checked her out and ordered antibiotics started immediately. Thinking it might be an UTI but not certain at this point.
Please say a prayer for her today. My children are on standby to take me down as I am still limited with driving. Bummer!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Heart goes out to you Marion...Happy Birthday to your mom..reaching 94 is quite something considering how poorly she's been doing! Now this, ill on her birthday..praying for her, you and your family..hard knowing one of these times you will have to count of the children taking you down there..drats

Lyndonville, NY

Marion, sending prayers for your Mom....and for you too!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks. I am tempted to drive it but then the doctor said no...not without some one to relieve me.

Patiently waiting for updates.....boy living 7 hours away now is rough.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear that Marion, I know your are anxious to be by her side, but please let someone drive you? Sending lots of prayers!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you will not try to drive Marion..would do more damage and maybe a driving mishap..waiting right along with you.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good thoughts to you all Marion, and prayers for your Mom. I hope the antibiotics make quick work of this infection.

As others have said, you should not attempt drive yourself there. Even if you were capable of doing the driving, you are much too angry and upset to go it alone.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Jean. Well sad to say but as of 30 minutes ago my sister called to tell me that no sample was taken today (was definitely ordered) so no antibiotics will be given either. Mom is just to weak to lift her head or talk, a suppository had been ordered to bring the fever done, as of the time I spoke with Sue, that has not been done either. Seem like everyone is just to busy with paper work or meetings to do any patient care. In one instance, one said she wasn't their patient. What gives in the world today? I do know she is old and it may very well be her time but please people, show a little respect! Sorry I will get off my soap box.

Verona, ON

Don't you apologize sweet friend. You need to vent and we are here to listen to you. You especially need a place to come to to express yourself since you are so far away from your mom and sis. Don't even rethink your decision not to drive down to visit your mam!! You are right about all the paperwork. These poor medical staff have to cover their proverbial rears and often have to fill in 2 or 3 separate forms for just 1 request. The poor patients and their families are the losers in this situation when everyone is so busy filling out so much paperwork.

Sun shining brightly even now but it is quite cold out there. Cut short the portion of our walk on the lake today and headed right into the bush. Sounds like more snow tonight and later in the week freezing rain. Give me the snow please!!

Debbie did you all have a good time yesterday? I am assuming Shane did not make an appearance. Has Nate gone off to college?

Last night Diesel didn't want to eat his dinner and I thought he was just off his game still. He is still looking for Quill especially during the night. Anyway I went to get some Wilton cheese out of the fridge and remembered I saw a piece of saran on the kitchen floor yesterday. Had no idea what the saran was from when I saw it but as soon as I went to get cheese I remembered I had left the cheese on the countertop yesterday. Yep, no wonder he wasn't hungry, he ate quite a large chunk of marble cheese.I am usually so careful about putting things away as Stormy was quite the counter surfer. Guess Diesel is following in Storm's pawprints. So now it is 2 things Diesel has taken off of the countertop that I know of ....lol

Sassy is here telling me she is just fading away from starvation so I had best go feed her and Streak.
Dianne

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Never back off when the health and well being of a loved one is concerned. Were it my Mom, I would be in the administrator's office demanding answers and threatening mayhem. Your Mom pays a premium to be taken care of...it is their responsibility to see that it is done right. Even a couple days delay in the treatment of infections in the elderly can be life threatening....bang the drum and raise Cain....this is your Mother.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You've every right to be upset Marion, Lordy I'll even make you the soapbox!! Here is hoping your sister will have better news later tonight!! Prayers being said for all of you

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hallallulia Jean..exactly what is would do, raise Cain..

Lyndonville, NY

Marion, this is Hospice doing this? That just doesn't sound like a hospice response!!! Start calling managers of whomever is in charge.

Regardless of if it is the care center or Hospice, the first thing is "do no further damage and respond to patients comfort and care!"

HUGS

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Debbie, I am not sure as we have gone a round with Hospice once before. We were told that they would not do anything to further life but would treat an illness that was not related to why they were brought in on this case. It was Hospice Dr. who told us 3 years ago this month that she had cancer and would only live 3 months max. Will she didn't have cancer. They now list her as Parkinson's but who knows? They do have to treat her for UTIs but at this point no one knows if samples to be cultured have not been done.

I do realize Mom is getting up in years but the attitude of "oh well, I don't have time" or "well she is old" just isn't going over very well. If it is her time and that is what is happening, just tell us!!

My sister has gone through all the higher persons with no answers so far. Everyone is passing the buck to everyone else. All we want right now are some simple answers. Do you intend to do the culture or not? Is this just the next level of losing her? Why wasn't the family called on Sunday when she asked it be done? The later was before she got so confused and disoriented from what my sister found out so far. Just no one did it!!!

Thanks for letting me vent. As for my driving, it is a precaution as my knee still locks up and that can not be predicted as to when it will do that. More of a safety issue.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sounds like Diesel may be full for a while....one would think that much cheese would "bind him up".....if he appears to be straining a bit then you may need to help him a bit. My SIL the vet said to make sure he has lots of water available. If he does appear constipated, then a teaspoon of salmon or olive oil or a small bowl of milk will probably do the trick. My dog Chester ate almost a pound of cheddar and yup...just like in people he regretted it. Do not use laxatives for him. Most dogs are lactose intolerant and the milk with get things moving...you can also feed him green beans which will add needed roughage to his system.
