Linda, great news!!!

Mary, I was watching the news....and they were in Louisiana on the main drag.....and interviewed a "local" A Faith LeBlanc! Any relation?

DH is home safe. Exhausted and starting to get a cold. Hope just from being tired.

I made the broccoli & cheese soup, turned out really good!

Heading to bed....

Everyone stay warm

see what happens when I'm away from the thread? Things happen........
Glad Dylan's home, LK!

Baton Rouge, LA

LOL Debbie.... I never heard of the name "LeBlanc" till I was here in Louisiana.... Mom could never even pronounce my last name once I was married... but it's as common as "Smith" here.....VERY Common and Betty says it's common where she is too....
WANT YOUR Broccoli Soup recipe !

(HUGS) Susan...

LK (Sigh of relief!) yay for Dylan...

Marion... your weather?

Morning all..groundhog day, wonder what ours weather fate shall be?

It's the bewitching hour, no can sleep so up I am, ready to take on the day. Nothing planned today so if I want to nap I can.

LindaKay wonderful news about Dylan..will he have to go for blood tests regularly? What a scare you all had.

Started home in squalls, not 10 minutes from Barrie did it clear up..was almost tempted to turn around and head for Orillia but thought I should push it..

Mary, so you think I can plant the bulb in the garden (away from any cannas). Lol
How did your DS's first day on the job go? Was thinking of you yesterday as I drove home..talk show about the ads being played this Sunday at the football game...Lordy people take these commercials seriously..pro's/con's about their content!

Off for a bah then grocery store..must have left a bag at the store..bread/bananas,container of fruit and kittie treats..likely left it in the cart, need to replace.

Sending hugs to Dianne and Diesel..
What are you all up to today

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, Our ground hog said "early spring" so I hope yours says the same thing.

It appears the "early spring" won't be today as it is snowing again. lol

DH is home safe and I think had good sleep last night....we were both in snoring competition.

Bev, how are you doing? I hope you had some good answers this week!

Shirley, I have really enjoyed you being "back" and posting.

I am not good at saying something to everyone....I start and then "Oh look a bird" syndome kicks in....but
I read all the posts and mean to comment. It is horrible having ADD like this, especially as an adult.
To focus is nearly impossible....especially the older I get! LOL

We have planning and cleaning to do today for the Super Bowl party tomorrow. I am excited to see the commercials
as I have had "previews" and "THE ROCK" is in a couple.....but as usual The Budwiser Clydesdales made me cry....oh my heart!!!

Susan, LindaKay, Thunder, Everyone....waving good morning.

Judy, how are things in your neck of the woods? Jake still walking on air? That boy has just grown so much...you and Steve
should be so proud. My DS was great while DH was gone.....now, back to the same. It is sad for me.

OK, have to get moving Paul is putting his shoes on and ...maybe...will get breakfast out!!!

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am working on an ostrich egg, covered with bees wax, then placing seed beads one at a time to fill in the design. Mine is a a hummingbird with hibiscus.
This is what I have so far. In between beading, I am working on the quilt of valor.

Morning Debbie!

Lyndonville, NY

Oh Linda, how pretty! And to pick the LARGEST egg and put the tiniest bird on it....love it love it! Lots of work.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lots of work, but it keeps my mind off of smoking!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy that's quite the endeavor, can't even imagine how many hours you've spent on it..shaking my head no, not something I could do! Let's have a look at the quilt?

Debbie glad Paul's home but sad to hear Shane has gone to his old ways..must be an issue between those two..know you will get to the bottom of it. One thing about my living alone. No one but the kitties hear me. Lol

When Greg was here last night he said he was having quite the time with Noah, he's grounded big time so he has decided outside of his room he will not go while the band is on..Noah is working with Kyle on Saturday at the snowmobile/recreation center..I asked if Noah will be spending the summer in Meaford working for his uncle as he has been the last 2 summers and living with grandparents and answer was no unless they feel they can trust him..sure feel badly about all this!

Went to check at grocery this morning to see if they had the bag of groceries I had either left at counter or in cart, nope, so had to spend almost $20 for same purchase. Wasn't snowing but it is now..keep thinking I want to do to Orillia before they put Christmas fabric away but not sure I should be going.

Well now let's see what out groundhog says

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Just mad a few blocks for the quilt so far. Log cabin blocks in purple and gold. I will post pictures when I get it together in a few day.
Sure do hope that Noah finds the right path soon. So hard at that age to get sidetracked.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't get in too much trouble grounded and big brother with him whenever he goes out..lol

Snowing like crazy here and yet nice in Orillia..Lordy it's expensive for fabric here in Canada..choice was minimum.,bought more white for the basket quilt ncase I want to add to it, blue to finish border on morning glory quilt..we're putting Christmas fabric away, managed to purchase a bit more.

Was going to stop off somewhere for lunch but figured I could make something for myself..

LindaKay, what is the pattern you are dong?
Keep thinking I should be nodding off by now but not!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Grocery store just called, manager said the bag was on side till, they waited until evening and put everything back on shelves..credit awaits me.

LindaKay, do the beads totally cover the wax? Do you do something to seal it so wax can't melt, interesting..did you get your eggs online?

Verona, ON

Foodland, right Betty? Glad you got your credit.

Very eciting and good news LK that Dylan was allowed hone. How is he doing today, have you heard? I bet you and your family are burnng up the phone lines!!

Pretty quiet and lonely around here without Missy Quill. Diesel is very subdued. He keeps going into the BR to where Quill's quilt is .... he stands there looking at the quilt, he paws it then walks a way not without giving 1 last look over his shoulder at the quilt. My sweet Quill actually did something for me to cause less hurt by dying here at home. I just couldn't make that call to have her put to sleep - there has been so much loss and hurt in my life this last year and a half.

How is Stacey doing? I read everything but don't remember a thing. Just some things on mind ya know.

Did Ann strike off for TO yesterday? I sure hope not the roads sounded wild. Even though I don't live in TO any more and haven't for years I still watch the TO news and weather every day.Sending prayers for Ann and her DN.

Noah will find his way Betty. I think we all make a miss step or two or six in our lives but we are all given a chance to learn from the mistake. Hate to think that Noah would not be able to go to his summer job come time. His parents are going to have to start to give him small chances to earn back their respect and trust. The sooner they start the better too so Noah doesn't sink into the "I'm doomed for life, so it doesn't matter how I act behaviour."

Judy is this the weekend of your party? Have a blast!! Have a drink for me - just don't make it a drink with gin in it though.

Think I will have a nap - not much sleep going on here last night.

LK, I have been to ask How is our Luna doing now? Has she adjusted to her forever home?

Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Luna is doing good. She goes in next week for lab work to see if she still has worms, if she does it will me more meds, I'm sure!
Dylan is home and doing good. he still has a little diarrhea, but they were told his tummy would be upset for a bit. This is the quilt I am doing, it is called purple heart, not quilt of valor. Lots of log cabin blocks.

Dianne, I was amazed at how the kitties mourned Sailor's dead right along with me..only been recently the've been making themselves comfortable on my bed! I still when getting up in the morning watch where I put my feet as to not step on her. You will feel her prescncein the house for a long time.. Sending you both hugs!

Breakfast television right?

I almost said in my last post 'hope they don't overdo it' and thought you would all say it's the grandma in me..will relay the concerns you mentioned to them..

Had a bit of a shut eye, only reason I woke was because I was chilled. Turned fireplace on, got a blanket and now I'm wide awake. Lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are all so patriotic ..love the quilt, where will yours go..big undertaking..is there a pattern for it..anxious to see what fabrics you are using.

You know about 10 yrs or so I made up a table at MacTier legion, I was rec coordinator then, i had seen the poem and the area set up and it touched my heart beyond belief..even had the frame professionally done..they, executives. Really didn't get the just of it..was heartbroken, not for the $200 or so dollars I had spent but lack of making it a place on honor

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Mary, the weather is on the chilly side but not bad at all. The sun is out shining very bright so I will just handle the chilliness with an jacket.

Debbie, "oh look, a chicken" bothers you too? My daughters says I am terrible but I tell her I am capable of thinking of several things at once. LOL

LK, so very happy to hear Dylan is home. Hope he continues to do well!!!

This is similar

The Fallen Soldier's Table

Those who have served and those currently serving the uniformed services of the
United States are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been
tainted by the bitterness of personnel sacrifice.

They are compelled to never forget that while we enjoy our daily pleasures, others
who have endured and may still be enduring the agonies of pain and internment.

Before we begin our activities this evening, we will pause to recognize our POW's and
MIA's.

We call your attention to this small table, which occupies a place of dignity and honor
near the head table, It is set for one symbolizing the fact that members of our armed
forces are missing from our ranks, they are refereed to as POW's and MIA's.

We call them comrades, They are unable to be with their loved ones and families
tonight, so we join together to pay humble tribute to them, and bear witness to their
continued absence.

This table, set for one, is small, symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone
against his or her suppressors.

The tablecloth is white, the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call
to arms.

The single red rose in the vase, signifies the blood they may have shed in sacrifice to
ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America.

This rose also reminds us of the family and friends of our missing comrades who
keep the faith, while awaiting their return.

The yellow ribbon on the vase represents the yellow ribbons worn on the lapels of
the  thousands who demand with unyielding determination a proper accounting of our
comrades who are not among us tonight.

A slice of lemon on the napkin reminds us of their bitter fate.

The salt sprinkled on the plate reminds us of the countless fallen tears of  families as
they wait.

The glass is inverted - they cannot toast with us this night,

The chair is empty-they are not here.

The candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to
illuminate their way home from their captors, to the open arms of a grateful
nation.

Let us pray to the supreme commander that all our comrades will be back within our
ranks.

Let us remember and never forget their sacrifices.

May God forever watch over them and protect them and their families.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Betty, that table was set at many of the military funerals I have been to. Hubs and I used to ride with the Patriot Guard.

A lovely Lady we met on facebook created that quilt design, she makes them for veterans. and is now sharing her pattern for those willing to do the same.

Marion, how are you feeling? Is the visiting an now lifted at your mom's nursing home

Snow seems to be blowing more than it was earlier, white outs..glad I'm in the house with nowhere to go..would say with nothing to do but you would all know I'm fibbing.lol

Should call Greg, he was going up the islands last night..dropped in for his snowmobile floater suit, that always gives me something to worry about..no call so guess he is ok..boys bought him the ice picks for Christmas..think they all got them..

Do you think it's our age that makes us fret so! Likely the knowing how short life can be..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Would you be able to send me directions..could change the USA colors for Canadian fabric

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

My son had a POW/MIA table at his wedding back in 1997. That was the first time I had heard of them. They are very special and so meaningful. Beautiful quilt Linda Kay. Can't wait to see it. Can you direct me to the pattern?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Betty, doing fine. The exercises seem to be help tremendously with the knee but still have some soreness and some pain. Still better than surgery....I hope. Will know in March.

They have lifted the restrictions about wearing masks and gloves but they still check everyone coming in to visit. If there is any signs of a cough, etc. they are asked not to go any further. My sister called this afternoon to tell me mom is very lethargic today. Her only surviving sibling isn't allowed due to a cold so that was very disappointing to her. Monday mom turns 94 and I feel bad but can't do the drive down to visit. Sent package this time and will call her.

Went to one of the nurseries today as I was having "plant withdrawal". It isn't as bad as having "fabric withdrawal" but it is bad. Oh the bright colors of the plants starting to come in now. I can hardly wait to start putting my containers together.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I bought a bunch of caladium bulbs today. I have never grown them, but they sure are pretty with all the different colors in the leaves.
Sorry to hear about your Mom Marion. Sure hope she is feeling better soon.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All;

Betty - I read that Amaryllis were Zone 7 & higher but they are great plants to keep in pots....seems like ours has frozen down in past years but come back up...
Marion... do you know If I can put nuns orchids in the ground? Mine has been in a pot outside for many years and fine... Got it from Dad who is near you....
Looked it up on DG and not recognizing nuns orchid.

LK love the colors of that quilt... was going to say LSU purple & Gold but with green... its Mardi Gras colors :o)

Noah will come around... when DS and I have it out... he often goes a few days with anger and I tell him he is angry at himself not me. He sure seems happier today... second day on the new job.

he doesn't realize how much happier he is when he is working...

We finally put Christmas up today.... *sigh*

Hugs
Mary

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

((((((((((Dianne))))))))))) sorry I missed your post about Quill. I know you miss her terribly, but hope this group of family help you through this.

That POW/MIA table is a great idea! I'll mention it to the Board members at the next meeting for when we have the next dinner at the church. Such a lot of meaning in this.
And the quilt is lovely!

Betty - my prayers are with Noah & the family while he struggles through this age....

Mary - I'm with you - finally got the Christmas boxes out of the porch and into the storage shed lol

Thanks to Groupon, Bob & I got pizza & 2 beer dinner for $10.78! Normally would be about $25.
We went to a Craft brewery not far from home, and had a taste of their brew.
Oh, and my car is finally fixed - almost $500, BUT now the bushings are new and in place. Before, when we went over any ice ruts or even speed bumps it sounded like the entire undercarriage was going to come off. Very scary indeed!

mulege, Mexico

Hi - I just won a poker tournament and won $25. Took about two hours.

I'm still sorting and organizing craft stuff, mostly fabric. I am really a fabric junkie.

hugs, katie

mulege, Mexico

Correction, I won $50!!! kb

Great Deals Susan & Katie !

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that is a good deal for pizza dinner!

Congrats on the winnings Katie! Way to go!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, yikes slept in till 5am, what is the world coming to??

Quiet,Missy is on my bed listening to the fireplace crackling, Riley on back bedroom bed waiting for daylight so she can see outside and I'm having coffee and toast meditating as to what I shall get into today. With it being Sunday not even sounds of cars going by..world is at peace this time of morning!

Guess you all will be into the football game today??

Mary are you required to go into New Orleans for your work? Glad DS is enjoying his work..yep aren't we all happier when working..oohhh did I say that?

Katie, great news on your winnings..do they put $$ into your account, what do they charge for the tournament?

Susan, glad you got the vehicle repaired..didn't come at a good time but is there ever a good time..here is hoping work extends the job a few more weeks to help pay for repairs.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Here ya go Mary...Nun's Orchid, Phaius tankervilleae. Mine has been in the ground for about 10 years. It is planted under the eave on the south side of the house. Thanks to the live oak, it gets morning sun and then just good light the rest of the day. Some winters, if the temps are really low, it may lose a few leaves...but I mulch well around it and throw a cover over it for extra protection. It is putting up spikes now. I have both the species phaius and a cultivar called Big Charley (that is the tall one) this pic is from a couple or so years ago.

Good morning,

I woke up to a winter wonderland. One of those snows that stick to all the trees in big fluffy clumps, I just want to go out with my camera! However, it is 18...so
my mind knows better...and body also!

There is something VERY important about the Superbowl. The commercials, and the only reason I watch it. I have seen previews of them, and there are some
great ones. First off, my major "hot hunk" the Rock is in the Milk adds. The Budweiser commercial already made me cry watching it. And the Doritos add with the dog in the car stealing the babies chips is hysterical.

SO, if you get stuck (unwillingly) watching it...enjoy the commercials! lol

Enjoy the peaceful sounds of Sunday morning....

Debbie

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Ohhh Debbie, I can only imagine how beautiful it must be to look outside and see the snow as you described. Notice: I said "look" not "go" outside. Enjoyed the snow the time I lived in Canada but these bones won't take it now.

Jean, glad you found that site about Nun's orchids. I did have some growing in the ground in Gainesville but have not tried any at this place. The natural setting and on the lake seems to be telling me camellias, azaleas, hydrangeas and ferns.

Lyndonville, NY

Marion, it is...but I would much rather be "home" on the beach! I never saw snow until I was almost 15. I wasn't impressed.

I will get some pictures in a bit...my hair will freeze solid if I go out! lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jean they are gorgeous, I so enjoy seeing what you plant in the southern regions..I push the zones but could never push it that far..can only ohh and ahhh here.

Just got back from Walmart, -15 here..roads are all clear, not the heavy snow Debbie got but pretty just the same..look forward to your photo's Debbie..I'm with you and Marion, if I had a chance to live in warmer climate(providing family would be nearby I'd jump to it.

Watching news, showing the hoopla of those who celebrated bourbon st last night..bet heads will be pounding as they watch the game today..

Then they went on..tomorrow is the last day for pennies herein Canada. Debit card willbe at actual price owed but at stores using cash it will be rounded to nearest..63 will be 65-nd 62 would be 60. Am sure regardless the gmt/vendors will be ontop

Picked up turkey, hungry for turkey, dressing and turnip..now if I can only not burn it..

Baton Rouge, LA

Good morning all !
JEAN! Thank you so much for the information... I THINK I know the perfect place for it... so I may head out and put the pot there for a few weeks to see how it likes that spot... I was really hoping I could put it in the ground... Yours are so pretty...

I think I can put in the ground early March or so... now on to the rubber tree plant. When I leave the office downtown I see a huge one in the ground but they have warmer temps downtown than we do in Shenandoah.

Marion I love the hydrangea but I keep killing them. :(

Thank goodness Betty I don't have to go to New Orleans... it is a madhouse down there.. not just Superbowl but Mardi Gras is in full swing...You would be having a blast down there right now... FB Is full of pics of my friends down there. I'm one of the few nerds who will probably be cleaning while watching the game today and not at a party but I'm like Debbie... I LOVE Watching the commercials... just watched the Budweiser one and teared up....

Debbie - do you know what puppy bowl is? Just saw it referenced on FB. Deb we'll just have to share a condo on the beach one day... Don't think I"ll ever move from here but I think of the Beach as *home*.

Hugs all will pop back in a few...
Mary
