Hey Linda.. that Lavender Tree looks beautiful. I wonder if I could have some success starting from seeds? I just lost the only tree I had in my yard and it looks like it would be about the right size too! The drought ended just a little too late to save my tree but I now have a place for a new one.... and my mother also has a couple perfect places a tree like that would be beautiful.

I love the pictures of the mums. Mine all died from the drought and I just planted new ones a few weeks ago. They are growing well but I am having problems with volunteer monster vines that are coming up EVERYWERE!!! They look like minature morning glories complete with tiny pale pink blooms but come up in the hundreds! I have to pull them about every other day and they are taking over my flowerbeds and yard. They showed up for the firs time about 2 years ago and now are completely out of control.

We also have some new kinds of weeds that have appeared in the past year... new sticker burrs that grow flat along the ground with round balls of stickers and really HURT! They would be pretty little plant if they were not so evil.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear you lost your tree's and mums. I will get some out to you!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I know those stickers.. ugh.. m son has them, hard to kill too cuz the seeds dig into the ground. I can send to you some small trees.. I have a small mimosa, and a couple of other trees.. I hate to compost them as I did them out so I send them away...
those pink mgs are bind weed.. the tap roots are about 4 ft long.. try using vinegar on them ..mow them before the seeds form on both of those.. my son and I covered up his areas after using round up with black plastic to smother them out this winter..he wants grass, not stickers.. and so do I!

I had a 3x3 ft patch of stickers four years ago . The dogs have scattered them and I pull them up each year . We came a month early and I got to them before the stickers fell off and treated everything with corn gluten so maybe we won't have so many next year , I pulled up 5 , 5gal buckets, packed , this year . You may have goatheads , there is a chemical that rots the sticker for those .

Afternoon everyone, nice and warm here, 80 degrees! Hope you're all doing well, and not too cold yet?
Sending prayers for Debra and her Sister, as well as Faye and Ray! Faye, if you're around, pop in and let us know how you and Ray are doing please?

Dahlonega, GA

Yes , please do .

I hear bind weed is a curse among curses. I know alot of you love morning glories but sadly I have about a million wild morning glories trying to take over... hate to think about bind weed.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Yes, it is that bind weed I think.. taking over my front yard and frowerbed.. it has now appeared in my back yard flowerbed and yard.... miserable stuff! Grows sooooo fast and spreads like wildfire. It is almost impossible to pull.. deep roots and STRONG! Nothing like regular morning glories.. those have weaker roots and single roots... these are really crazy.. they lay along the ground and form multiple points of rooting... one plant starts HUNDREDS more... nothing seems to stop them. I have literally pulled thousands of them and they are taking over everywhere. I get out there every few days and pull hundreds.. go back and there are more than there were before.

That bindweed sounds like a job for a serious herbicide - there comes a time when you have to decide who is going to own your garden - the bindweed or you. Will multiple spaced sprayings back it off enough to be controlled by pulling (I know you probably don't want to use herbicide any more than absolutely necessary? I have no experience with this plant but have heard very bad things about it - your experience confirms it. The only plant I stoop to spraying is poison oak (and also poison ivy) as it is just too dangerous for me to try pulling or even using tools (which spread the oil also). Bindweed may not cause allergic reactions, but it sounds equally bad.

Sounds really horrible, good grief....

Hello all. Just want to give update on Ray and thank you all for the continued prayers. Mon. Ray had surgery (this the 3rd. time) We got home about 5 last night. We had a rough night but a little better this morning. Home Health nurse is with him now. She will re-pack his wound 3 times a week. Second surgery now has been changed to 2 or 3 weeks from now giving Rays back some healing time. We love you so much and I do apologize for not getting this info to you sooner. Say hello to all for me.
Love & Hugs
Faye

That is Ray's back!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

awwwww poor Ray!

Dahlonega, GA

Good grief , how big is that ? How did he let it get so bad ? Hugs

Date. So happy to hear the news about Rays cancer. Now just need to get the plastic surgery done and he will be good as new.!!! Huggs to Ray from both Ralph and I. Xoxoxo..

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you all for caring. Ray is still having a rough time with pain but it's understandable considering the carving that was done in his back.
Digger you asked " How did he let it get so bad ?" Don't know that he had a choice. this is the 3rd back surgery for cancer he has had this year. As soon as Ray feels the burning (sign the cancer is back) he goes to Dr.'s and they take it from there. Ray went through 28 Radiation treatments before the surgery and the Tumor had shrunk quite a bit.
Stay well and happy
Love to all.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Sorry to hear Ray has had to go through this again... hopefully this is the last time. Whishing both of you a steady noneventful healing period.

Dahlonega, GA

Oh , that's awful that he's been fighting it so long . I know you've been frantic over all of it . I hope all is good from here on out . I can't believe I'm just getting the news with this thread . Hugs to you and Ray and keep the ole chin up , we are all behind you both with prayer . Love to you both .

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)
