Yaaaay for Adam and Domenic!!
Victor, I prefer my gas range. Ummmm,,, not sure if its sealed or not. Looking forward to your tunnel pics.
My car made it to 200,000 miles! Think I could sell it? It's a 1999 Subaru Outback in good working condition, no accidents, no rust, good shape.
Coffee Break # 81
Hey Harp! Congrats on the milestone. Heard good things about Suburus. My minivan lease is up and I am getting a Honda CRV on Thursday.
I HATE HATE HATE cooking with electric, we have a smooth ceramic cooktop HATE IT...did I happen to mention???? I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't hold back, Jen. ;)
What, specifically?
Takes too long to heat up then burner stays hot too long after you shut it off, I have all black so I clean it and 15 mins later it looks dusty(I'm exaggerating but you get the picture) It's not a steady temp so you can't do any canning on it and you burn things too easliy cause even on the lowest setting it's too hot. On mine there are 2 small burners 1 large and 1 burner within a burner(which I hate cause that low setting is WAY too hot but if you need to use 2 big burners you need to use that, but what happens when you need to have 3 big burners going, you're out of luck...UGH I hate it! and real cooks don't cook with electric anyway...you see Gordon Ramsey or Bobby Flay using an electric cook top? NO!
We have always had electric--no experience with gas.
Victor, I hear CRVs are great! Lucky you! I'm trying to sell just about everything I own so I can either get a Honda Fit or a Hyundai Accent.
Hey Harp, are you familiar with Kickstarter? Check it out, if not. People pledge support for all types of projects. The project only proceeds if the target is met. Lately, I have seen people doing it with their artwork. In fact, I backed a project. The artist will do a small color illustration in markers, on a theme I pick and in the main color I choose.
The CRV will be derived to me on Thursday morning. Leasing through AAA again - thus will be about the 10th vehicle I have leased from them. So easy and painless! They deliver the new one, take the old one, do all the DMV stuff and call my ins. co.
Harper, I sold my 98 Honda with 170,000 mi on it for $3,000. This was in 2010.
Victor it does take a tad longer to heat water.. but takes forever to cool down.. can have a boil over (like I did) when first getting used to it.. turn the knob down and it stays at the high temp for a half a min ... I always turn mine down ahead of time.. and the other thing is can't use a big across the stove grill pan... burners don't work that way.. so even my oblong ceramic pot doesn't heat just right because no heat gets to the edges
I've had both gas and electric, definitly agree with Jen on the electric end of it. Prefer gas.
I have gas too.
harper i just read a consumer reports from May and the subaru vehicle in the class you are looking at is the top rated vehicle.
We bought the CRV in April and I love it. Our 120,000 miles plus Subaru Legacy from 1997 is now my son's car. He changed the timing belt this weekend, but the main parts are still fine. I've heard of them lasting for 300,000 miles. We'll sell one of our fleet when the kids go to college this fall. He wants us to keep the Subaru and sell the 2002 Jag that they re-built from Ford parts.
Folks have said most all to say about gas vs electric. A downside to gas is that there is some off-gassing which can affect people with severe allergies. Makes me wonder if closed gas fixes the problem.
Our gas company made headlines a few years ago because of a Victorian house that exploded. So they sent the kids home from school to our all-gas house nearby. By evening everyone had to move out of the neighborhood until our gas was shut off and then no gas until pipes were replaced. They had installed too small a gas pipe in the entire town. You can imagine our reaction when we learned the kids were sitting at home turning lights on and off, having no clue how houses are connected by gas lines or what ignites them. It's worth a conversation with the kids as a general safety matter.
Happy, happy news for Adam & his family......I have an electric stove.....black top like Jen, & yes, it never looks clean...I use white vinegar to clean it, my house smells like a pickling factory...but my stove is fast....I had cast iron burners which I hated, so anything is an improvement....there's no gas line where I live, so I would have to have propane installed. On the other hand, my son has gas burners & electric ovens on his Aga....the gas to me seems much slower than my electric, & I can smell the gas...he uses propane as well.....Good luck with the new car, Victor, & hoping you find the car of your dreams, Harper. I have a 2005 Tahoe I bought used & never had one problem with it.....
I have gas and like how it can be adjusted quickly while cooking. I had a smooth top once and also hated it.
I have had both electric and gas and I MUCH prefer gas. I like that I can actually SEE the flame and adjust the heat that way - with electric you never really know how hot a setting is. I stick my grates in the dishwasher and the white enamel cleans up easily with any cleaning product I want to use and elbow grease. My sister had a smooth top and hated it. She said if you weren't very careful with the cleaning, you could actually move food molecules into the glass. (Not sure about the science on that one.) I know that you aren't supposed to can on smooth top ranges although I'm sure that people have figured it out. It is much easier to char peppers on gas and make roasted marshmallows.
and you can't use it if the power goes out
my dream is gas burners and electric oven. I'm used to electric, so it works for me.
I have a double electric oven and love it!!
The smooth top electric stove I truley loved. Cleaning it was a charm. I hate cleaning a gas stove, the burners are nothing but a grease & food drop trap. If you get one make sure the burners are sealed. Also make sure the burners put out enough heat. I hate my gas stove.
Also I would not even think of broiling something in it as the broiler is on the bottom, not the top. What a stupid stupid move to put it on the bottom, let alone buy it.
Thanks for all the input! Maybe I'll go with solar. ^_^
Bill - best part of that article: "...said Somerville’s Ben Dicke, 28. “It’s not too pleasant.”
A whole generation is DOOMED!!!

Did it when I was a kid....I let it run for awhile though!
They list it now in the description if it's safe to drink from that certain hose, I noticed that awhile ago
FYI - I have this lounger and LOVE it! Great for my back. Good price.

Funky
Guy was telling hubby that the inversion table was the best thing he ever bought for his back

I'd feel like a bat! Pressure on your eyes can't be good.
You don't stay that way that long, I wouldn't sleep like that
My niece has an inversion table and her hubby says it really helps his back.
victor, is it hard to get in and out of that chair? Do you often get things from that website?
We (meaning Jeff) is making hydrogen balloons tonight at VBS. should be fun. Hehehe. We'll have the kids stand back. Then we'll do things with bubbles. We have been in charge of the imagination station. All things sciencey. Right up our alley!
oh funny, they have an imagination station at our vbs too...what's the theme???
Sky. The hydrogen balloons aren't part of the script. We improvised cuz it is dramatic! Jeff gave them a clue as to what would happen tonight. He just said BOOM!
We're doing Sky too!!!!
Hydrogen?? You mean helium? Hydrogen is dangerous stuff.
It's a bit tricky to get in the chair. Easy to get out. Yes - I always order from Woot.
Nope, I mean hydrogen. That's why Jeff is doing it and we are keeping the kids far enough away. We'll also have helium ones to compare. When he pops the hydrogen one he has a candle on a long pole. He does this with his classes at school, too.
Woot is interesting. I'll check it out some more.

Wow - surprised they allow that. Huge liability potential.
We hadn't thought about that.
