(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Barb, sorry to hear he has to make a decision like that! Praying he will make the right one!
Praying for you too, that the new meds are doing the right thing!

I go to my new ortho Dr. on June 22nd! I will know more then about my knee and or hip surgery. In the mean time, he told me to take it easy, and not be too active!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, hard decision for sure..Braedon is going at same time..thankfully he hasn't choices to make..it's such an honor one that likely never will present itself again..always next year for band and competing/trophies. Surely somewhere they could find a substitute trombone. Has he spoken to band teacher? His heart must be breaking..to have so many loves and have to make a choice! Shaking my head..

Squirrels sure play havoc with the gardens..due to the heat in March I too have lost shrubs and plants..can't win can you! Glad you are being monitored..you sound stronger in your posts..feeling much better with new meds?

LindaKay,what do the mean by too active?? Housework/gardening/walking? Likely no surgery till July some time?

Hmm think it has stopped raining, back to drawing board?

Just got gardening garb on and stated to rain, dout it will be an all day rain but it leaves out staining the trim on back shed as the wood needs to be dry!

I had just put a wheel barrel of soil to don't garden, bag of mulch, another 1/2 hr and I could have crossed it off my list...drats

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yes, Betty. the second photo is a wiegelia...White Knight cultivar possibly.

http://www.yourgardenshow.com/plants/10835-Weigela-florida-White-Knight-

Good thoughts for a good day to you all...have help in the garden today...gotta run.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Barb I have been in that situation when I was in high school and I agree with you, he will get more out of it if he stays home and competes in the State competition, Betty they don't pull in substitutes as high schools can't borrow other players from other high schools, that's what the competition is, it's all the state schools competing against each other, if the band doesn't have a player for a certain instrument then the band goes without and I can guarantee he doesn't want to leave his band without, I know I wouldn't have as I was the only bass clarinet player in the band. I think he would enjoy doing the horse competition also, seems that will get him further in life and it's more rewarding since he's put so much time into it. Just my take on the whole thing

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, that's why it's such a hard choice to make! Will be interesting to see his choice.

Jean, as I wipe the sweat off my brow and in dirt covered clothing I'm thinking lucky you, wish I had help in the gardens...go take advantage of it before they change their minds. Lol
Is a wreigelia, going in search of another for the other side..not quite sure why if I have something on one side it's a must for identical on the other. Lol

What do you have planned for the weekend Crissy?? Are you still thinking 2nd job?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, Dr. said to take it easy, and not walk too much. Especially in the yard where I have more chances to stumble and fall! Well, the plants still need watering, so I will just have to be careful!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Because symmetry is pleasing to your eye, Betty. you like things in balance. You must be either a pisces or a libra....grin On a lunch break...the thermometer is climbing and don't know how much longer we will be outside....sweaty and dirty and longing for the shower.

Linda Kay...please be careful and don't get tangled in the hose.

Crissy, I agree with you....the DC trip is an honor...once....the others are result of hard work and have much more involved in the future.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Jean - couldn't open the link?
Betty - got the picture of the weigela from googling it - White Knight, as Jean said. You could google it if, like me, you can't open this link Jean provided.

Betty - SO glad your BP is perfect. I think All Drs want you to relax before taking your BP cuz you Could have jogged to the office, for instance, or had someone Carry you into the office (LOL couldn't resist!!), and the same person would have different readings based on activity.

I got a call from employment agency, and they have me working 2-3 weeks at EMS (Emergency Medical Services) as an Admin Assist in their office. In my area, and paying the base of what I need, so this is good, right? It will pay more than being on Benefits and will Not become perm - it's only meant for 2-3 weeks, but will make more than I'm getting now.
Bob just applied for early retirement funds, and can still work. It won't be much, but it's more than nothing, right? lol

Tonight is Movie Night - "We Bought A Zoo" - several people have seen it and thought it was good.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes LK - no tripping and falling - if anything, that would bring up your BP too - the shock of falling that is....

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sorry Susan...not sure what the SNAFU is....it opens for me, but takes a couple tries????

Victoria Harbour, ON

pisces I am, odd that I like country gardens though, a jumble of plants just thrown together..hmmm maybe there is two sides to me. Lol

It is hot, I work and rest in equal amounts of time. I so need a bath..the red mulch is all over my clothes. 4 bags is zilch..already have them in 3 of the 4 gardens..don't normally put mulch with with anticipating hot dry summer the mulch would keep damp after watering..hoping i am doing the right thing. I should get Greg to pick up 30 bags or so..I'll leave it for next weekend, don't want to overload hom. Lol

lindaKay lol you are one of the first ones to say 'listen to the doctor' and now you are misbehaving! I realize it's easy for them to say but lots to be done that is a must.

I'd order something to eat from next door but if you saw the look of me you would know why I will pass

Breaks over! No rest for the wicked..know I complain about amount of work I have to do but sure is starting to look nice..

Victoria Harbour, ON

USusan, it's a start! Might lead to other positions or leads to other companies...sometimes it pays not to show them how brilliant you are..some people are intimidated by that..with early retirement funds and part time work even if he makes enough to pay the bills it's a bonus..watch, you will both get yourselves organized and great jobs will come along for both of you.
Crissy sent me info on 'pisce's' should go read it again.

Let me see what is easy for lunch that I don't have to go out where seen?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - you, Bob (March 6) and I (March 11) are all Pisces then!

of course it will lead to other companies (the agency really likes me, I just hadn't done my "due diligence" and called them often enough) and who knows - they might like my "brilliant self" LOL

Bob's still doing work around the neighbourhood for friends. I asked him if they would be "pay as you go" more.... right now he has a roof, berm, empty back garden to plant grass, re-skirt mobile and paint exterior, etc at one home, and it looks like she won't be paying until the job is done..... she's a church sister btw - so know she's good for it, but would really like some $$ from what he's done so far.... or close to it. Bob just won't ask her, cuz she's on assistance.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Let's hope she realizes Bob needs it as well and doesn't think because she's on assistance he will feel sorry for her..she should have asked for 1/2 up front and balance when finished..don't they do that????

Well, they kept me up part of the night croaking..just put 3 types of water plants in the pond, was walking by and voila, it's nap time!!! sleep all day and croak all night..
Should throw him off just to get even..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol - that froggie came by because you put water plants in, or did you put the frogs in?

Bob Just got a call re: working interview - he's to go on Monday 8am to work with someone on a house (last guy's last day is today, not 1 month ago as was originally set......... or maybe it's someone that didn't work out?!?! dunno).
Anyway, Bob's to bring some tools and I think ladders, and they'll see how he works out. If yes, then he has a job! It's exterior work, so I don't have any more details. Bob had seen this guy working and Bob figured he should probably work at what he's been doing for years before, rather than go with Warehouse that he's only done for 3 years......

mulege, Mexico

Anoather restless night last night but I was up at 8:30. Did errands, including bones for the dogs who are all auite happy, especially ax who thinks they should all be his. He's so funny. He's the smallest but the only male and he takes his machoness very seriously, Likes to keep his harem in line!

Tony finished sealing the outer kitchen wall and I got the pain for it. I also gathered together the materials to make the bed for my ambulance. That will speeed up the work. Tony might not be here tomorrow but wil be for sure on Monday.

We have so many chores to do. I'd be overwhelmed but Tony always manages to stay calm and I feel I have to follow his example. I'm working on lists so we can establish some priorities.

I have three new-to-me brugs blooming for the first time. We put one out in the new front garden so my neighbors can enjoy it, too. I picked some beans and some broccoli.

It's hot, humid and sunny here. Nights and early mornings are still cool but by 10am any heavy work had better be done.

Take care, everyone.

hugs, katie

Oh the peepers have been going strong since those warm days we had in March. I'm waiting for the Snappers to come up and lay their eggs. They usually come right around the summer soltice (sp) but with all the weird weather I am wondering if they won't be here sooner.

Katie I was happy to read ( well not as much as you were I'll bet) that you at least have a tentative timeline for your surgery.

Mary I hope you and all your family have a grand time on vacation together. Sending positive thoughts for your sweet MIL.

Dianne

Trying to stay busy through the heat. Painted one tire and one washer tub for the new garden. Washing two more tires.

crissy. sure wish we all lived closer to each other. You need a few house guests. On another thread we called ourselves the Granny Goons and threatened to form a motorcycle gang to tour around straightening realcitrent husbands (or dig deep holes for them). I look forward to your giving mule training lessons to Dave (those are done with a 2X4).

Most of the Americans who only winter here have gone and it's very quiet. I don't get squirrels or jackrrabbits because of the dogs. We do occasionally see a big jackrabbit on the road. Thhey are big and are very fond of lettuce and other such delicasies.

Diane, I'm sure times are still difficult for you and I pray for you often. I am looking forward to getting a date for the surgery. Meanwhile, I'm trying to take my own advice aboout keeping busy and not thinking too much. I am moving mre easily since I've lost oolmost fifty punds but my knee still keeps reminding me that it's there.

I gathered the materials for Tony to make the bed in the ambulance. This organizing is usually at least half the battle so I don't think it will take him long to do. Then I'll be ready to go. Don't know if I'll make it up to L to see Amma (my teacher from India) in mid-June. I'm still not recovered from my last trip but I do love to see her).

Betty, glad you had some laughs with your doctor. I emailed my doctor about my "cure" for a frozen shoulder and wished him a happy holiday weekend.

hugs, katie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

katie - you gave me quite a laugh about the Granny Goons! Mule training by 2x4, eh? I LIKE IT!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Katie, even though your vehicle is ready it's not time to leave yet is it?? That's a long ride to be taking on your own, would be nice if you had someone to travel with. Goodness, you've done well with weight loss, sure wish I had the gumption to do same. You are very busy considering the heat.

Dianne to they lay the eggs near the waters edge? Hard to predict what will happen this year, everything got confused with march summer weather.

Had a call from Cathy, she was in emerge with blood cloths..doctor just took her off her meds..she said last weekend that she was having pain and thought it was blood cloths..off her feet for a bit..drats that is not good.

Suzanne and Darlene dropped in this afternoon..talked a bit about the July/August trip..Darlene' s dad dropped in as well and said Mae his wife still talks od our trip to
New Orleans..think she is the last of the seniors still with us!

I will spend time this week putting a plan /budget together then we can meet to discuss any changes.

7pm and I've been fed, bathed and ready for a night of relaxation.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LOL "fed, bathed and ready for a night of relaxation"...... sounds like you're a baby, ready to be put to sleepy-bye..... lol

poor Cathy - bet she's worried, blood clots are nothing to "sneeze" about.

So glad Suaznne & Darlene are going on the July/August trip! (you Are talking about them going, not just you?!?)
wow - New Orleans..... I would Love to visit there. So much history, and sooooooo colourful - Food/culture, and clothing!! Like another world......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, please be careful, weatherman says bad weather heading your way!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ooooooh if there's bad weather coming your way, Dianne - yes please do be careful... We don't want to hear of you blowing away - you're a tiny person......
((((((((Dianne)))))))))

Victoria Harbour, ON

All four of us..just hoping Darlene won't find it too overwhelming and change their minds

Coughing jag, meds and to bed

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes Betty - knowing you, you'll need a full month's rest for your RU coming up the end of June.... no sliding backwards cuz you haven't rested enough, and ruining your time with your visitors!! My goodness, where has the time gone????
I bet you're just tingling in anticipation!

Verona, ON

Betty the turtles come right up to the house to lay their eggs. Several yards away from any water. Its neat to watch the newly hatched turtles (about the size of a quarter) strike off for the water. They just seem to know what direction to head off to.There are certain areas the snappers and painted head off to lay their eggs.

I need to put up my barricades for some precious Day Lilies that the snappers seem to think have been placed on 'their' dirt.

Yes heard the weather is looking bad. Skies are a weird colour plus the wind has really gusted up. Thea is potentially in much more danger than where I live. Sending positive thoughts to the Weather God to spare us this storm.

ALso the turtles do not lay their eggs wily nily. They seems to have set areas where they should go. I must try and find the pic I have of a huge snapper trying to climb the step by the side door and enter the house. If I can find it I will get a neighbour show me how to post it.

Dianne

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

o my, Dianne - right into your house? Maybe it's an old maternal instinct from before the house was built?

Please take care, in this weather. Sounds like the yellow-ish/grey sky?!?!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Once they lay how long before you see turtles and how long do they stay??dont remember having them but we did have the little birdies in great numbers that would lay their eggs in the grass then play hurt to lead us away..for weeks we couldn't cut grass in that area..we're they killdeers??

Imagine mother turtle would be quite protective as well..

Hope you find photos

Lyndonville, NY

Mother turtles lay their eggs and thats it....cover them and GONE.

Verona, ON

Yep, once the eggs are laid Momma turtle goes on her way. Now Momma just doesn't come up and lay her eggs at the first spot she finds. Sometimes she might dig 3 or 4 holes before they find the right spot. The drive off of the lane is circular and during the summer my drive has traffic cones set out marking where eggs were laid.

Eggs usually hatch in early fall but if the air on the surface is lower temp than in the nest the tu.rtles do not come out until the spring

If a raccoon is watching it will come and eat all the eggs as soon as they are laid and momma is heading back to the water...

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is one heck of a production, not as simple as just laying eggs..wow the fall, i would never have guessed that long. I would assume she knows they are safe with you..have you ever counted how ?

More firecrackers and changes in the air, perhaps we will get the storm..Sailor going crazy!! Have a 9am appt at the groomers , needs hair removed before she starts pulling it out. Going to try and sleep!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello all!
I'm scanning so will need to catch up when we get back....

Thank you all for your well wishes!

So far so good.....
best: 1. Rental car gave us an expedition 2. It had a trailer hitch for our luggage rack. 3. Hubs got off early from work
Worst but not bad and unmanageable: persons who can't pack without drama, complain about stuff that has been already explained ,sisters who argue
Not sure what learned but I drove almost all the 3p-4am (losing an hour) and I still have a big smile on my face
I think we will have a fab time
Tomorrow I will let all sleep in ....and then we will head to Universal and the new Harry Potter area
(((((hugs))))) love y'all
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone..

Thea/Dianne, here is hoping storms passed you by!

Overcasr this morning, not sure it can be a painting day but rest assured there are plenty of other things I can do.

Have to have Sailor at groomers for 9am, then pick up mulch..should be close to 11am before I get back..weather should be decided by then and I will know what my afternoon project will be!

Almost a couple of hours this morning before having to leave, could have back yard mowed but neighbors I'm sure woulnt be happy.

Mary, what a fun day you will have, do you stay as a group or do you meat up from time to time? Hope the family realize just how much effort went in to planning this trip...may it be nothing but fun this entire week.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good morning

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Mary I hope this trip is 100% more wonderful than you hoped it would be....have a grand time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jean, bets she's smiling ear to ear and enjoying every bit of Harry Potter !

Just got in from the doggie spa, gee Sailorgirl looks spiffy..her white against black is dramatic..booked her in for July 14th 9am..gee, don't spend that much money on Me!

Back into gardening clothes..went. To Midland while I had to wait for Sailor, 6 bags of mulch was all I could bring home in the Aveo so my goal now is to cut the grass. 2 hrs
Do mulching of pond 2 hrs and white trim

Told myself no coming in till these chores are done..the sunniest of days today but possible rain tomorrow which means its a must, can't put anything over to tomorrow.

Long weekend for most of you, have company coming, going somewhere? News this morning said 33% of Americans will travel to a destination this weekend..did. Your gas really go down 20%????

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, two weeks ago, we paid $3.98 for gas, today it is $3.42. It has really dropped!

No plans here, just Todd and I. He is going to cook BBQ baby back ribs, and I am going to make potato salad. Maybe some corn on the cob?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am not sure what time frame for 20% they are referring to...I do know nationally gas prices are 6% lower than they were in April. Check out this link....Venezuela only pays $0.09 per gallon....while Norway pays $9.69 per gallon. Right now, I can get regular unleaded for $3.37 a gallon when we were paying $3.99 in January.

http://www.bloomberg.com/slideshow/2012-05-12/highest-cheapest-gas-prices-by-country.html#slide56

Memorial day weekend has always been a big travel time for the US. A lot of schools have finished their Spring semester and folks, like Mary are off on family vacations. In the US Memorial Day is our "start of the summer season"

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well that is a plus with regards to gas prices..must tell those coming to the gathering to top up before crossing .. Ours keep going up. Please keep prices low for when I do my road trip.

Ohh LindaKay, can I invite myself for supper? Mouth is just watering..bought myself a ham, will have baked potatoes but no corn, won't be for months, my favorite..can live on it when in season.

Jean, just like our long weekend last weekend, we know it's the start of summer and fun!

Wow, break time, only 1/3 of grass cit! think I should have gone on a vacation as well..need a wet wash rag to continuously wipe my face..not easy cutting this amount of grass by hand..think I no sooner get all the yard manicured that it's fall..
Not sure there is a water BA, but it is my turn to water..even number day..now that mulch is on front gardens I will give it a good soaking!

Had a grin a few minutes ago, was thinking if Roger were still alive he could help with the chores, chocked on that one, if Roger was alive he'd have mowed them down. Lol

Break over..back to chores..

Coughing jag off for cough syrup.

Lyndonville, NY

Envious of the gas prices. We are at 3.99 in our little town...but just 40 miles away in Rochester, it is 3.77. On the Rez it is 3.44.

Trying to clean the house and get things where they should be. Its not working! Have my music on to help and dance through it. haha Glad no one is here to see, but I think the dog is laughing at me.

Debbie

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

The dog is laughing because he is jealous....grin Did anyone catch the Paul Simon special on A&E last night? This is some of the happiest music ever recorded.
