ROFL Right now she is so hot her tongue is hanging out. I cooled her down with the hose.....she gets shave Thursday.

Debbie, believe it or not, that long hair insulates them and keeps them cool! when we had our Siberian husky, we were told not to shave them or they could get sun burned. He would go out in the hat of summer, and lay in the yard for hours at a time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Break time, probably it for the day! Headache city, I know did it to myself but it's got to get done!

Dogs, just had Sailor groomed and where do I find her, under back deck staicase laying in the earth..so much for looking pretty..guess its what keeps them cool.

Debbie do you have a hose you could spray her with..poor thing! Imagine we have same weather..thank goodness for the breeze.Susan, that photo is just too adorable.

Went out and looked at the shed and body said 'no go' so edged the 6 steps onto back lawn..another thing to cross off me list.

LindaKay, supper ready?? Thought i might need a chocolate fix so went next door, aero chocolate bar awaits.

Lyndonville, NY

OHHH yes she has been sprayed. Her pool blew away a couple storms ago, need to get her a new one. She has a triple coat..so so thick and just falls out non stop if we don't trim it way down in the summer time. Don't trim it enough to show skin to burn. But oh, she feels so much better after. ALSO, it really helps to keep the fleas at bay....can't even get the flea meds on her without.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

She is a beautiful dog. Is she a Newfoundland Hound or Lab Mix?

New swap just opened, come and check it out! Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue!

Lyndonville, NY

Izzys dad is a Newfoundland...her mom is a border collie mix. She has one crescent moon that is blue in one eye. She is a big girl, about 95 lbs.
I have told the story on here many times how I got her. My DH is NOT crazy about dogs. BUT I always had one in the house. Daughters friends dog had puppies.....mom a mini-border collie...dad was a shih-tzu next door. All black cute little fur balls. DH said since they would be small...I could have one.

Well, she was only 4 weeks old...the mom quit feeding them...so she was very small when I brought her home. Then...we added food and water. I took her for puppy check up....put "shih-tzu mix" on the papers. The vet comes in....looks at Izzy...then me. She said THERE IS NO WAY. Showed me her "tulip shaped" paws...she is a water dog...showed me something about her snout and head shape. She was either a flat coat retriever....or a newfie. Oh no.....Not my dog! Well, she was 40 lbs at 4 months of age...and just kept growing. Longer and more too it...but that is the short version.

I finally slept fairly well last night. What a difference it makes. I've also had less pain in my knee since losing weight and my shoulder isn't frozen. All in all, I'm feeling better than I have in quite a while.

My friend Yolanda stopped by yesterday to admire my new garden. I got to show off my brugs and to give her a rooted cutting one of them.

Went to town and did a few errands. Came home and made some avaado ice cream. Also spent soome time in the western arroyo planning what to do there.

It's been a really nice day. Perfect weather and I had enough energy to paint some tires and do some other work.

My ice cream doesn't really taste like avacados. It is creamy and lemony tasting. Pretty good for a first try I think.

Thinking of all the people on the road in the States. It is so quiet and peaceful here. My friend Rafael is coming over tomorrow to collect seaweed for my garden. It washes in from the sea this time of year and we have a short time when we can collect it.

I also got to soak in my outdoor tub. The water temperature was perfect.

What a good day.

hugs, katie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

wow, Debbie - only Great Danes and Mastiffs are larger than Newfoundlanders! Looks like you got quite the Opposite of what your DH wanted lol

Glad you slept better last nigh katie. Would love some brugs, too :-) (just kidding!!)
Avocado ice cream?!?!? I would Love that. Been eating a lot of avocadoes lately, and have 2 on my windowsill, waiting for them to sprout lol I used to make rhubarb ice cream, and have some rhubarb in the freezer right now - not sure if I'll make pie, or ice cream from it...... I make it, by the way, is made in a regular freezer, not an ice cream maker. How do you make your ice cream?
Do you use seaweed like a fertilizer? How about using fish fertilizer? I heard that some places outlaw it, because it drives cats crazy lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Izzy is a beautiful pup Debbie. I kept my sister's Newfie Bess for a few months ....she was a wonderful dog....but she was miserable in the La. heat. I got the bright idea to take her to the groomer....cost me almost $200....Miss Bess had all her winter coat. When the groomer was through, she and I were standing in knee deep hair....and Bess had a thin layer of baby fuzz. The mail man left us a note that there would be no mail delivery as long as we had "the young black bear" ....

Glad you are feeling better Katie.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

lol 'young black bear' lol Did you explain it was a dog?!?!?!

Bess and I waited for him at the mail box....he was amazed. he had never seen a dog that size....she licked him and I thought he might cry....LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Where is everyone? I bet Betty is outside in the gardens, or busy at work?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I've just come home from being "tested" by an employment agency lol YIKES - 8:30 to 11:30..... most of it on the computer test programs - Word, Excel, PP, Alpha numberic entries, and 5-min typing test........... each program had 55 questions, so took quite awhile. And of course an interview before and after testing.

Lyndonville, NY

Fingers and toes crossed for good results!!!

Hot as anything here...too hot to move. Took Izzy out and hosed her down, and me in the process.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - apparently I got a good score in the "intermediate" Office tests. I'm not happy with that....... I'm rather an "intense" person and have always gotten a "high" in the "expert" Office tests, but...... I did something silly - I tested on Office 2007 and I've only used it minimally for 1 month at an office, and use it all the time at home, but not as full-fledged working environment. For instance - I don't mail merge, or do Accounting processes............

Lyndonville, NY

Susan, they realize people react different and have difficulty testing under pressure. Keep that in mind. I am sure they know there are so many Microsoft programs out there, and you might know some more than others.

I can do it "my way" on the computer with my own shortcuts. BUT I can't do it the way they want you to during testing...and I fail. That itself is so so hard.

mulege, Mexico

I've started painting the outside kitchen wall. Tony and I cleaned it and he sealed it. Now I'm starting the white paint. It's hot but tolerable outside.

Last night was cool enough for me to sleep in my big room which doesn't have A/C.

I've also been working on curtains for my craft stuff shelves in the living room. Why do I keep hearing my mother and her endless "You should have done it sooner; you should have done it better."? Thank goodness for friends like my neighbor Barbars who reminds me I don't need to justify my existance. Also the dogs, who are happy as long as they get their dinner.

Still trying to organize priorities on chores. And money. And grateful for Tony.

hugs, katie

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thank you, Debbie, for your support - I really appreciate it.
When typing, my hands were so cold (the office was cold, and the testing office was even colder they said because of the heat of the computers).
Some of the testing usually doesn't allow "shortcuts" but this time it did - I could "right click:" to my heart's delight lol

mulege, Mexico

Susan, I'd rather be paining in our heat and humidity than taking offfice tests. Especially on computer skills. And for three hours. Yikes. Sounds like you did fine.

One section of the kitchen wall is painted. My kitchen is being invaded by fire ants. In addition to cockroaches and a few mice.

Where is Betty today?

Susan, sure hope you hear back on a start date!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Katie, go get a powder called boric acid, it is cheap, and it works on those roaches! Just don't let the animals get to it, as you have to leave it down for a few days.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty didn't post yesterday either.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just dropping in for a sec...know you are all busy so will post here and there..

Not to worry, feeling A-ok

Hope great long weekend for all of you!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ok - posted this on another thread, but you may not all see it:

WHAT a couple of week days I've been having...
1. Friday, got a call to start an work assignment tomorrow (Tues)
2. This am I went to another agency and they tested me on computer software (MSOffice)
3. Got a call from Another agency, saying they saw my resume on Monster.ca and have a position they think will be a "fit" for me - they sent me a test of knowledge of computer software (MSOffice) - I've done some of the test modules and I will take the rest of the test tonight.
4. Got an email from Another agency - saw my resume on Monster.ca, wanted my updated resume and cover letter. I sent both, plus 4 Excellent references. She called me while I was taking #3's test, so I got her # and called her when I finished a test module. I spoke to her, and she outlined an Exec Assistant position with an IT CIO and thinks I would be an excellent "fit" for it. She suggested $1 more/hr than I asked for, and said it, and the yearly were in line with what the company wants to pay. Only drawback - it's downtown, so I'd have to take the bus... and it's horrendous, both for parking AND bus - connections are Not good. siiiiiiiiiigh

My brain's a-spinning, and I'm reeling with the possibilities! First, a dearth of job interviews, and Then This?!?! I'm not complaining, believe me!!!!!!

mulege, Mexico

Wow. I'm overwhelmed just reading about all of this, kb

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm excited about the "possibilities"!! Not to assume that anything will come of the possibilities, butto have NO interviews, and then to get an assignment, 2 testings, and 2 with probable job offers!! Yikes!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that is great news! I know you will get a great job with one of them!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I sure hope so........ the last agency I spoke to, the pay is more than I was asking for (not by much, but still..........more!!) They were really impressed with my references, too!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!

Where is everyone? Week-end is over.

Fresh coffee is ready! English muffins with flavored cream cheese!

Lyndonville, NY

Just happened to think poor Mary is in Florida where that storm just went through. Many without power. Sure hope she and the family are ok.

It is moving up the coast very slow....

Suse' you OK? It was stalled over Georgia last I heard.

To dang hot to do much....hit 86 here yesterday...with no wind and high humidity. I have been elevating the legs, todays going to be another one of those days!

Hope everyone is feeling well.....and we have a good news week.

debbie

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I doubt Mary is having much upset with TS Beryl. The storm came ashore about 150 miles northeast of Kissimmee/DW and was heading north/northeast. Maybe a bit of rain, but shouldn't have been too bad.

Susan...perseverance pays off...BRAVO for you. I hope one of those becomes your dream job.

94 yesterday and dry as dinosaur bones...hope we are not gonna have drought again this summer.

Hope everyone has a lovely day. Our Vets were well remembered this past weekend.

mulege, Mexico

Today Rafael and his friend brought two truck loads of seaweed and one of dried palm logs. I spread the seaweed out to dry a bit and then we put it through the shredder. Compost it with shredded palm logs, leaves and whatever else we have. Rafael and friend also dug a trench for more large pots (made from washing machine tubs) to go in the new garden. Tony and I were both very happy to have two men who are used to heavy work do thiws as it'sa much more of a chore for either of us. We have compost from other years ready to go in the tubs, mixed with the soil the excavated.

Tony has begun work on the bed for my new van. It is beyond words how wonderful it is to be able to make the plan, gather the materials and then have Tony do the building. Tony is happy because it's the kind of work he enjoys and I'm always happy with what he does.

With the bed done I will be able to go see Amma in LA if I feel up to making the trip. If I don't, the van will be all set for when I have my knee surgery. Then we won't be trying to do the work in a hurry - we both hate that. I love him for helping me to always stay calm and he loves me for never telling him to work harder or faster or better. There are people who wonder if we are romantically involved but we appreciate each other too much to go down that road. His wife realizes that, too, which helps.

YouTube has a videa called "Greening the Desert" which has been one of my inspirations. Last year hwile with Amma I met a young man who is engaged in planting mushrooms in tropical places to clean up the land. I didn't get info to stay in touch with him and would really like to see him again. I'm using vetiver grass for clean-up and erosion control.

Tony and also spent some time discussing plans. We need to get the man with the back hoe in here sometime soon and we have about three places where we want him to work. My motto is "Think a lot, work a little." Especially as the weather warms up. Our hours of work get shorter as the weather gets hotter.

I have two planters ready for plants. If it cools off later I'll move in some of the little marigolds - they are very hardy here. For now, I'm playing poker with the fan cooling me.

hugs, katie
