Best/Worse/What did I learn today??? Chat with friends

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Betty. My Mom was the consummate nurse. She was able to give knowledgeable, compassionate care to her patients and yet maintain the emotional distance necessary to do what needed to be done without their pain and suffering becoming personal to her, unlike her daughter who becomes emotionally involved.

Suicide is quite prevalent among the caretakers...firemen, policemen, EMTs and nurses and doctors...so sad for the family of that young officer.

Verona, ON

Jean your description of your mom and how she viewed her vocation as a nurse reminded me so much of how our Mary described her mom who was also a nurse.

Unfortunately the morale on the staff at this hospital is so low it is like scraping the bottom of the barrel. They are overworked and underpaid for all of the responsibilities they hold. Many can never obtain a FT position so are spread thin even more by their second jobs they must have in order to get by. They need to be treated with some respect at this hospital not as a cog n a wheel.

Oh Betty my heart just aches for the young copper and his family. Suicide is such a problem in that profession. Santa Warren was a cop in Metro Toronto in the 60's, loved his job but was horrified by the emotional toll it took on all of them. While he was there 2 fellow cops in his division committed suicide. Very hard on the copper's family and also his/her police family.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Believe Dianne he had 2 young children..often think of policemen as I do with war veterans, they've seen more in their shirt years then we can ever imagine, much kept within and for that reason sometimes overwhelming beyond belief and only way to take the hurt away is suicide.

I'm sure being a policeman's wife you saw many times how his mood was affected because of his daily shift. Some were are not as lucky to have a loving and understanding woman by their side.

Have you been speaking with the hospital this mornimg? Am sure you have, several time..is he resting well and being well looked after? Let's hooe his roommate speaks up again if he sees anything unusual..tell him we thanks him, hug might be needed!

Still haven't been out, such a drab sort of day..Maine by mid afternoon a panel 18x20 will be ready for caming then I can clear off the tables as each and every one of them is topped with something.

Girls on the Canadian thread have been talking about fern peony..did search and someone near Oakville is selling for $35.00. Normally double and triple the price..made contact via email but so far no answer.

Will drop in to local nursery if I don't hear by tomorrow and see if a plant can be ordered in..they are beyond gorgeous!

Afternoon everyone! I am back from the hot rod show! We had a wonderful time, and saw lots of hot rods. Weather held out for us all week-end, it was cloudy and windy, but no rain, and it was not too hot!
Dianne, sure hope you got some heads rolling at the hospital today! Praying Warren is doing better?

Afternoon y'all ... or should I say evening?

Anyway, Jean, I agree ... sounds like your Mom was such a sweetie. I have a niece who's a nurse ... actually she'll soon be graduating from school again and will be a nurse anesthetist. She's one smart gal ...

Betty, wish I could bottle and send you some of my weather. It's been in the 90's again today. Oooh, guess what? We found a snake! It was already dead, though. Don't know what killed it. It was still intact ... about 15 inches long .. an Oak snake. They're not poisoness, but very dangerous as they'll make you break your neck getting out of the way when the DH yells "SNAKE" at you! LOL

Linda, so glad you had fun and your weather was good.

Dianne, hope SW has had a good day today.

Debbie, did you get in anymore trouble? LOL Your bed sounds nice. Glad Shane is able to use his arm some.

We're having chicken tacos tonight, but I need to go finish up a couple of things outside first. I already have the chicken cooked and shredded so won't take long to prepare.

Will BBL later to check on everyone.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks, yeah, my Mom was a special lady, and i miss her everyday,

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

SNAKE!!!! (watching everyone Jump!!) hehehehehe

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Susan, You stop that !!!!! My neighbor says I have a five foot long three inch around one over here. I better never see him. The S that is

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

lol ya sure ya don't mean the neighbour? That's the one that's tellin' ya about the S, ya know......... LOL

Lyndonville, NY

Suse, I got in SO much trouble, you know I did. You can hold it in two hands, it is fuzzy and furry....and it HOPS!
And it isn't a frog!

And no...snakes don't hop, and if that is fuzzy and furry we got lots of trouble! We can't say the "S" word around my son in law either. Big 5'11" farmer boy is terrified of them.

Meet....well, he doesn't have a name yet. But he is a Jersey Wooly, 10 weeks old male....and mine! And here is a picture of him with Izzy...she is such a good girl and so gentle.

Debbie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

only 10 weeks old? he looks much older......... and wiser........
how about Methuselah? He already looks like he has white whiskers LOL
btw - he's adorable, and looks so cuddly :-)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg Debbie he's so adorable, think I'd have to have him as well! Aawww
Izzy is indeed gentle..think my kitties would create more of a problem for the hip hop than Sailor would! Will ha be living Indoor or outdoor?

I'm also not a fan of snakes, wouldn't faint if I saw one but wouldn't stick around either..when cleaning near the pond I'm always on guard as the rocks would be the ideal place for them to call home.

Bev, your property seemed low and damp, is it..wouldn't the are be conducive to snakes....you've a birthday coming up this week, anything special planned? We're you able to get another perm..bad storms in USA, hope you are safe.

I've long time friends who live near st.clous Minnesota and storms are raging in their area! Imagine saying NYC and Boston will likely have temps tomorrow between 80-90F ..wow

Suse you must truly be proud of your niece. I've never heard of an oak snake, not that I'd be anxious to go looking for one. Here on Beausoleil island we have rattle snake protected on the island, you would likely get more time in jail doing damage to a rattler vs. a human. Chicken tacos?? You sure know how to eat Suse...I had pork roast, mashed potatoes, dressing and carrots. Cathy dropped in just as I was about to eat so she joined me.

Glad you enjoyed your outing Lindakay, thank goodness you weren't near any of the tornadoes.

Kids were all going to see Titanic 3D and wanted me to join them, wasn't up to it.

All but 2 pices left to cut for the stained glass piece and another Christmas gift done..slowly getting ahead of the game!

Already calling it a night..

Waving to all

Prayers for Santa Warren

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Betty and Suse - please pass some pork roast and chicken tacos over !

Oh Deb - Brer Rabbit is a cutie pie ! Can't wait to see what you name her. We had Rabbits growing up.
Betty - hope your BP gets under control. I still think a Chiropractor would help. I totally agree our Deb would be great in the medical profession... I told her Hospice because she can be so calming... amazing when other things are so in turmoil
Jean - glad you had a good day at the Blues Festival. Great info for Dianne.... I made my little note to mention your mom sounds like mine... she was a nurse as well...then Dianne took the words out of my mouth (LOVE you Dianne) I swear you all know me better than my local buddies...
Debbie - you know when something bad happens and reminds us we are "human"... that makes one re-think... maybe Shane is re-thinking his choices and looking for some other options (ie. Fly fishing vs Skateboarding!, friends, etc)
My hubs made all our beds "Raised beds" I didn't really understand it at first, parents always just tillered the land and planted... may have to do with soil quality in this area.
Oh SUSE ! "Snakes" "Why does it always have to be Snakes"

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I finished a baby quilt, and receiving blanket, and burp cloth last week on tues morn and we brought it out to my sisters house, her daughter and SIL, and family live with her..
niece was very pleased.....after we left she said to her Momma " I just can't believe she made all that for us?!!"

I am working on multiple things as usual, quilts for Malena's bunk beds...think I finally decided on sashing for blocks / charm squares..I also want to make her a little purse, DH bought fabric with monkeys on it for her/ me when he was out in WA visiting his brothers.
think I may have mentioned that DIL and GD were supposed to come, than they decided they were not.....well now they are coming again....so I want to get the purse made before that, they will be here the 30th..

odd that you mention snakes...I am not liking them at all right now.
MarySue's (Daughter of niece above)....cat just was killed by a rattle snake :( so very sad. they took him to the vets, and it would have cost $ 1300.00 for anti venom. and the vet did not believe it would have worked as he was a small cat, and it was a very big snake!! I am working on a quilt for her, won't replace the cat I know, but will hopefully make her feel a little better. I was gonna do one any way for her as I did one for her big sister, and now did one for the new baby....so she needed to get one too...Just got to do it sooner than planned. I am going to applique chickens on blocks of various sizes, I will post some pictures as I go along, I have a few cut out, but I have to get some background fabric.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

tried to send pictures, they would not post...trying again

Morning all, heck. It was cold all weekend, go to let Sailor out and it feels like its in the 70's..

Starting my day with prayers for both Santa Warren Dianne

Thunder, wow, never gave a thought to a rattler doing damage to other furries, poor kitty! So glad to hear Melana will be paying you a visit, know you were disappointed when they said they couldn't..you are so good to your family..not many as lucky as to receive home made quilts, spoilt little ones. Don't let Debbie see the chickie..

Mary when you say raised beds, how high are they?

Just heard late last night police officer was stabbed in the neck ..

Oh Betty!! The police force in your area is sure having a tough time of it lately...............

Thunder - so wonderful of you to make all these quilts for the family - they will be heirlooms, for sure!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan, this officer was in Toronto, the other officer was in my area, Rita whose DH is OPP said that the officer had been very depressed lately, came back to work and they thought he was doing better...NOT..I would think they are not publicizing it much so that the family can have the funeral without all the media.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Good plan - the family doesn't need a lot of publicity and stress at this time......

Morning ... well at least while I'm typing this!

SW and Dianne am thinking and sending hugs and prayers today.

Still would have liked to have been a fly on the wall when our Dianne finished speaking with the people at the hospital. Bet they never knew what hit them. LOL

Dianne, it might not change anything, but bet it sure makes you feel better, huh? Sitting here Giggling just thinking about Annie Oakley!

Thunder, we have a lot of rattle snakes here, also. That's why we were so relieved to see it was only an oak snake. My MIL had a dog that was bitten by a rattler and they did the treatments, but it was a long time before the dog got well. Oh, those quilts sound awesome! Lucky family!

Susan, hope you're not feeling as overwhelmed today ...

Betty, hope your weather will improve, and you'll be out in the garden before long. The stained glass sounds awesome!

Barb, thinking about you today and sending prayers ...

I watered tomatoes, went for a walk and now I need to find something to eat. Then I *must wash and start on this filthy house. Waving to everyone. If I don't make it back, send someone ... the dust bunnies will have kidnapped me!

Oooh, speaking of bunnies ... Debbie, how sweet!! Will he live inside? I use to have a long-haired Netherland Dwarf ... he was gray, so I named him Smokey.

Okay, news ...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hey Suse - thanks for thinking of me. I don't know if I'm less overwhelmed - too overwhelmed to tell LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Afternoon everyone. Dianne, how are you and Warren doing today?
Thunder, love the work your doing!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Too funny Suse, have some of those bunnies myself..when Greg moved the big wooden cupboard to put the t.v. and stand in, omg you should have seen the bunnies, he looked up at me and said 'mom, sure hope you will sweep or vacuum before I put this t.v. in..should have had him help me pull out the stove, hate to think what is under it..yuk/yuk

You sure are keeping yourself busy, nice when one can go out each day for walks/sit in the gardens..did I say sit??? don't know who has a garden that it's not work/work/work and very little sitting..

Actually, think in one year only time I sat in garden was at a b.b.q. when Barb and Norm visited.

Waiting for update from Dianne re Santa Warren, and wonder what Debbie will call her new little furrie???

Added:

Went to garden decorative center across the street at lunch, asked if he though the piece I ordered would fit in my car..nope, need a truck so now am on the lookout for who might be in Barrie after Friday..drats, never entered my wind about not being able to take the Canada Geese home

Debbie still has NO IDEA what to name the little furbaby. We have a list with Copernicus, Gus, Gibbs, Jiggs, Jethro, Mooshu....and various other Disney Characters.

Been checking in for update from Dianne & SW since I got home also.

Weather is getting very dark here and wind picking up, but it is so so warm outside.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wind is the same here Debbie, went to lunch and wind almost blew me away..kidding of course, wind would be to be stronger than 80kl per hour..lol

Jethro or Gibbs are my pick..watched the last episode of NCIS twice today, heart racing watching him and his new love...got me all excited and bothered..ooops can I say that???

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I like Jethro as a furbaby name.

My Siamese Fighting Fish is Sebastian lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debbie, love that. Unit, but don't let it run loose in the house. We had one years ago, and it got behind the fridge and chewed through the wires. This was when we lived in base housing, so we had to call and have them fix it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yikes, amazing that the bunny didn't get electrocuted chopping through the wires Lindakay.

Worked a bit outside, storm is brewing so tied everything that could be tied down, down..lol

Stopped at the nursery, couldn't resist a new phlox..called icecream Sherbet..wow $24.99. Best I don't kill it.

Put ads on kijiji and Craigslist asking I'd anyone has a fern peony that would like to see a planting..nursery said if they ordered one in it would be $120.00' would so love one but not going to spend that amount of $$$

Sure hope we hear from Dianne, been worried!

Lyndonville, NY

LindaKay our house has been bunny proofed, kid proofed, cat proofed....for years. He is never left out unsupervised either. Had him out for over an hour today, put him in cage and he went right to his litter box and did his business. Had to laugh as he was chasing the kitties and trying to make friends.

Izzy wants to love him, but he is small compared to my moose of a girl....so she sits and just looks so lovingly. She really missed our Benjamin after he passed away...would go lay where his cage was.

Look at this beautiful cardinal that visited today also! Was a big size for such a bird.

Thumbnail by DebbiesDaisy Thumbnail by DebbiesDaisy Thumbnail by DebbiesDaisy
Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Debbie he's just so cute..did they train him for liter box before you got him? Can't believe Izzy is so docile with him, think Sailor might be the same but not sure I'd want to give it a try..she usually just walks away when strange critters are around.

Been watching a great movie..."do you know me?". Snout a young woman who finds out she has been kidnapped, father kills her boyfriend in efforts that she doesn't continue the search to find real parents..want to go and solder back of stained glass piece but don't want to leave the t.v. set

Lyndonville, NY

No, he wasn't box trained when I got him. If he has accident in cage, I put the "pebbles" in his box so he sees them there. And whenever he is out, I stick him in there soon as going back in cage. So far so good.

Izzy was raised with Ben when she was just a few weeks old....along with the ferret and other cats. She has "mothered" baby birds out in the yard too in need. She is a good girl

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Debbie - what a adorable pair, your bunny & Izzy lol Izzy sure looks like she's asking "why won't bunny play with me? I'd love him soooooo much and I'd be good!!"

That surely IS a big cardinal! I've never seen one before. Other than in pictures lol

Lyndonville, NY

That is a big cardinal, there was another out here 1/2 that size!

Weather is changing fast.

I was driving to Rochester for chiro (went well) and suddenly butterflies all over the place! I mean a swarm.
Got home and quite a few in the back yard I hadn't seen before.

News tonight said they were "blown in" from the weather changes, never come this far north. They would refuel and fly back south. They were
Red Admiral butterlfiels, so pretty! Birds were going nuts chasing them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohh goodness Debbie, I'll be on the lookout for them..did you notice if they had their passports?? Don't see many butterflies here althought since I've been adding plants that attract them am getting few more..they also of for pear, cherry and apple trees sooo since I've planted them maybe more will come.

Think I shall call it a night, thought Dianne might have been back from the hospital by now and even thought she'd be exhausted just might posy a hi..

The draining of the lungs would take so much out of Santa Warren, would imagine if he was fretting she could stay the night.
Won't be going to sleep until prayers are said for both of them....

And when we wake it will be Bev's birthday and we can have a birthday sing a long!

Worried about Laura as well, sure hope her back isn't completely out and cannot get up.

Whew ... I escaped unharmed!!! I have a confession to make, though. When I got to the bedroom, my bed called to me, and I couldn't resist. It reached right out and grabbed me, so I slid in and took a little shut eye. LOL I didn't rest well last night ... now I probably won't tonight either. LOL

Debbie, I think you ought to call him Thumpper. I'm just teasin ya ... I'm really showing my age! Guess you better give him a *real name or he'll be psychotic for sure. hehehe

We've got a 30% chance of rain for tmr and then it goes up to 60% for Wednesday with strong winds. All the tomatoes are caged so should be ok. We need the rain!

Dianne, thinking about you and Santa Warren tonight.

Yikes Betty at the $$ for that fern peony! Hope you can find one. What's the "rest of the story" about the Canada Geese? Inquiring minds? ...

Okay, still need to load the dish washer. You know, a woman's work ... LOL

Lyndonville, NY

Suse' I was just laughing at you! My first rabbit ever was Thumper...and he had a twin Troubles. I was about 4 or 5 and they would get in the bathtub with me! Mom about had a fit..but they would know I was in the tub and just come and jump in. And yes, he must have a proper name....mine all have middle names too! How pathetic am I?

Betty, get some rest. I have never seen these butterflies before...very small and pretty. I hope they are out tomorrow, but it is supposed to be cold...dropping 40 degrees over night they say with a high in the mid 40s...after today was over 80!

DH survived first day of work, and stayed up til about 9:15 to watch his women on Dancing with the stars. He is in bed now. I only have grocery shopping tomorrow, so should be able to stay home and get things done. SO looking forward to that. I have a mess to clean up in the dining room and window seat. Just really need to organize, my biggest flop in life is organizing!

Bev, sure hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Judy how is your days going? Has been so nice having you back here.....and my ADD is flaring big time so sorry I haven't said a proper I MISS YOU and hello!

Suse, those little cat naps come in very handy....grab it while you can.

Debbie
