Today, I am thankful for...#7

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Way to go Buffy. I bought a chicken on sale and am making a huge pot of chicken soup. Will freeze most of it.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Grateful for cooler weather, patio umbrellas, and automatic watering systems for containers.

(Zone 7a)

Ahhhh, I agree about Monty being a bundle of joy. Our cats know several words...their names, outside, hungry, dinner, where's daddy, mouse, treats. Except Cleo only knows her name and treats. They can't all be rocket scientists, I guess. LOL

(Zone 7a)

And I am thankful for funny fortunes in Fortune Cookies.

Today I am thankful for my DH! He carted off a big box & four shopping bags full of winter squash to the food bank. I bet it was 60-80lbs. It was pouring and he had to drive around some flooded areas. I am so happy to have him retired and willing to run errands I can't. (They are only open on business days 8am to 3:30pm and they are well over 30min drive ea way! I just can't get there during working hours).

My kitties know "do you want out" and the sounds of their food dishes clinking. :-)

Nice thing to do, Tam. :)

I am thankful today for the cognitive awareness to question seemingly absurd facts such as...if we've had weeks of no rain and 15% humidity, then WHERRRRRE did these #@$*^&* mosquitoes come from? ARGGGG!!!

Washable cotton throw rugs. Hazard of using puppy pads to housebreak my middle dog. He thinks anything fabric on the floor is fair game. :/

Bags and bags and bags of inexpensive potting soil. Have several dozen daylilies to put in containers until beds can be made ready and the stack under the carport is reassuring. :D

sitting on the deck in the shade with a light breeze, people who have more knowledge than I do, and shade trees.

We find the dog and the male cat at the door waiting for us to come in whenever we have been out. They listen for the overhead garage door to open and then come running.

Kitties are 15 so they've had a lot of talking to over the years. I had a twenty year old a number of years back that understood more. I'll see if I can remember what these two know. Most of it is said automatic any more. They know the following: No, Lay down or get off, Dinner, Up, Down (both of the last two are directions for stairs), Stay, Treats, Get Down, Come here, Snuggle, their names, and Out.

(Zone 7a)

"...people who have more knowledge than I do." In my case, that would be most everyone. There's always more to learn, yes?

Today, it's apple fritters, vacuums and train whistles at night.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Yes. Agree that for me also it's most everybody and always more to learn.

Prosperity, SC(Zone 7b)

Today we are thankful for Morning Glories and Hummingbirds...Cheap entertainment...:O)

(Debra) Garland, TX

cheap is good. :)

today I'm grateful for chocolate chip ice cream. And again, for my retired DH. He cleaned the place thoroughly today. Dusted & vacuumed the downstairs so we're all set for our house guests tomorrow. Stripped the bed, washed the sheets & towels. Ahhh... I love that he has the time to do this stuff and even more love that he is willing to spend his time on it!

Yes ... always more to learn!

Today I am thankful, and comforted, to know there are partnerships that do work and do last. :-)

I am thankful for flexible work schedules.

I am thankful that the mild weather should continue through the first part of next week. Supposed to go back up close to 100 toward the end of the week, so plan to get outside a goodly chunk of the weekend. More daylilies came today and they need 'em sum POTS! :-D

Today I am thankful for Daves Garden.

(Debra) Garland, TX

I am thankful today for honest car salesmen, Delicata squash, and a boss who doesn't mind dropping off a Babe's Fried Chicken dinner to me at home on his way back from that restaurant. :-)

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Hey, my peeps! So thankful you are still here. It is comforting to know that. My 'virtual' friends are always coming to mind.

Yesterday DH was discharged from the USC hospital. That is 25 days. I took him right to the Nursing Facility I his friend said people should not use nursing 'home' and he is settling in. I thought the staff and doctors at USC were great, but maybe it was his duration, but DH did not have too many kind things to say at the end. Whoooeee, little local nursing 'facility' will have a hard time keeping up with him. He has already been quite challenging, thank you very much. Since Medicare and supplementary insurance only pay 100% for 20 days, that is how long he will be there. Problem is, DD and I will be traveling to/from and in Cincinnati for a week starting 9/28. We have had reservations since April to go to niece's wedding and family get together. Insurance will provide a nurse and Physical therapy to come in daily, or regularly, but he will likely need someone here. DD's friend will be staying here to take care of the 12 animals, and he does cook, but at 17 he does not need to be caring for DH. DH's son had said before he hoped his Dad appreciated my taking care of him, cuz if it were up to the kids, he would be in 'the home'. Well, maybe I can send his dad to his house?! We will see.

I am thankful for our cooling weather. Our 100+ days have been limited this year, but really, I am thinking crime must have been up in TX, because to tolerate that day after day after day, would just drive me freakin' nuts. Bless all of you who went through that! On the weather.com site, I am guessing that will raise your 'averages'. See, our average in July and August was higher than Plano, before this summer.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Debra I am thankful you have such a wonderful boss.

(Zone 7a)

Today, it's the simple joy of the ability to read. It's been awhile since I've met someone who couldn't and today I did. A young man who slipped through the school system and came out the lesser for it.

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Encourage him to find someplace to learn to read. It's never too late to start. DH volunteers for an adult reading program here in KC. They have tutors assigned to each adult so they get one-on-one time from the same person until they are done with the program.

Thankful for pain meds, fall weather, and the smell of fresh tomato sauce cooking in the kitchen

Dahlonega, GA

It was determined a few years ago that a lot of people that couldn't read had that problem of seeing letters and numbers in reverse . I'm having a senior moment and can't remember what it's called . There are tests to find out .

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Dyslexia. My family has it so am quite familar with it. The KC Literacy program watches for that in the adults in the program. It's sounds to me like it's quite common issue among the people who sign up to learn to read. I would hope that adult reading programs in other locations do the same. Basically a person has to learn how to compensate for the dyslexia.

(Zone 7a)

The young man referred to earlier is 27 years old and is just starting an adult reading program. I wouldn't have known he couldn't read except for that fact. He kept mentioning how excited he was to start. He has been testing for dyslexia and does not have it. He said he just was never interested in learning, so he didn't.

I will never understand how schools can pass students and hand out diplomas without that basic ability.

Today, I am thankful for the sound of temple bells and the sound of Hummingbirds peeping outside my office window.

What a beautiful combination, Kwan.

I live in a pocket of quiet on the weekends.

===============================

I am thankful for

The unexpected laughter provided by my pets. One dog watches television. He especially likes kittens. (Not to eat...at least, I don't THINK so...) Two dogs run to the door when a door bell rings--on a pizza commercial. :D One dog butts his head into my calves if I don't walk fast enough to the kitchen to get his daily treat.

Thin crust delivery pizza.

Having another day with my terminally ill sister.

Sarah - I'm sure she appreciates the time you are spending with her.

Today I am thankful for living an area rich in horticulture. I enjoy the rock garden society chapter here and all the amazing people in it. We had our fall plant sale today and it was amazing how wonderful the plant selection was!

Ditto on appreciating the time you spend with her.

Heavy dew on shrubs (rained last night), having the windows open, and the moon shinning through the clouds last night.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Sarah, my sister is the only family left. I don't want to imagine what it would be like in your situation. I am very, very sorry that you both have to go through this and thankful you have some time together.
==========================================================================================

While not quite comparable to losing a family member, learned yesterday that my oldest dog Russell appears to have untreatable spinal cancer in his cervical vertebrae. All my research shows this kind is fast moving and we have weeks, at best. He is not in pain and most functions are normal for now. I am thankful to have the foreknowledge and time to spend with him until he "crosses the Rainbow Bridge" with Dr. Dewitt.

Thankful, too, to have had him for these years. He is my first dog and today is his 10th birthday. I have always used his birth date to point out good things happened on 9/11, too. That we should remember and grieve, but should NOT allow those acts to make us hold back our lives. Because, if we do, they win. My happy, goofy, mega-shedding, Nerf ball Russell-dog is proof enough of that for me.

Today I so very thankful for a wonderful relationship with my stepdaughter Beeka age 33.
When Rob and I got married @ 12 years ago it was the desire of my heart to have a tight relationship
with his 4 grown children. We got closer to Beeka @ 3 years ago.She is one of my "sweetie girls" now.
Son Keith kinda/sorta closer. Rob jr and Sarah we are still praying @. Beeka and her family are coming
her for a BBQ today. Thank you Jesus for all your blessings!

Dahlonega, GA

I understand exactly why you're thankful for the close relationship . My ex's two kids hated me and got between us every chance . They were grown and had families of their own . My present D H (of almost 20 years) has two sons that hug me first , and call me on my birthday . The wife of one , calls me at least once a week and keeps me up on family gossip .The daughter ? A bit jealous of Daddys "other woman" in his life . Put plesant . That's fine , I prefer boys anyway . lol. But so thankful for his boys
Thankful that my son and his kids have never given us problems . All good kids .

Midland City, AL

Thankful it is socially acceptable to sleep and laze around on Sundays. :-) ~Nadi~
