While not quite comparable to losing a family member, learned yesterday that my oldest dog Russell appears to have untreatable spinal cancer in his cervical vertebrae. All my research shows this kind is fast moving and we have weeks, at best. He is not in pain and most functions are normal for now. I am thankful to have the foreknowledge and time to spend with him until he "crosses the Rainbow Bridge" with Dr. Dewitt.

Thankful, too, to have had him for these years. He is my first dog and today is his 10th birthday. I have always used his birth date to point out good things happened on 9/11, too. That we should remember and grieve, but should NOT allow those acts to make us hold back our lives. Because, if we do, they win. My happy, goofy, mega-shedding, Nerf ball Russell-dog is proof enough of that for me.
