Today, I am thankful for...#7

(Zone 7a)

I am sooooooo going to start my day with those songs! ROTF!!!

somewhere, PA

yep - what a wonderful way to start the day!

I'm thankful for my garden. We've been enjoying so many new dishes as I search for ways to use the bounty. Last year it was summer squash in (over) abundance and this year its winter squash. Butternut squash lasagna was fantastic! Tonight, squash sauce over pasta was terrific too. I have a wheel barrow full of winter squash and have not harvested it all - maybe 1/2 or a bit more.

Today, I am thankful for...

...taking the plunge and trying daylily seeds. They are starting to sprout! Yea!

...no serious injuries or death from the latest Possum Kingdom Lake wildfires.

...butter from pasteurized cream. My grandmother used to milk the cow, then skim the cream to put straight into the blender. Didn't like the milk and did NOT like the butter. She may looking down and shaking her finger at me, but--I'm 54, Gramma, not 10. It's okay for me to say so now! ROFL

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Possum Kingdom! Love that name. A year ago when I was exploring The possibility of moving to TX, my sis offered that town as a place I might like. Now it has had 2 fires in just a few months!

I am thankful DH is accepting Of needing to stay in The hospital longer. On clear fluids now and new CT with contrast on Tues. He may accept The stay but not The diet!

Wish I could use his iPhone better but sometimes it goes to Spanish and I have to keep checking The auto-correct!!

Thankful that we are in line for rain from this tropical storm coming into Louisiana . How nice if it could have come in a little further west so that Texas could have some relief .

I am thankful for long weekends. Maybe not so thankful for kitties wanting to play before I'm ready to get up... ok... even so, thankful for my kitties too.

I washed/scrubbed my squash. Total haul from yesterday: 32 butternut, 10 futsu black & 10 speghetti. The cabinet my DH made me to store all this in is almost full. Will be delivering the rest of the squash to a food pantry. And oh my... what will I do with all the sweet potatoes I hope to harvest in a few weeks? :-)

Tam

(Debra) Garland, TX

mashed taters, fried taters, tater salad, baked taters, grilled taters, tater/peanut butter candy rolls...just call me Bubba. :-)

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

Roasted taters. Sweet potato pie, biscuits, noodles, stuffed ravioli, pancakes, waffles. And I'll think on it some more. There is proably a cookbook out there just on sweet pototoes.

BTW - Butternut freezes really well.

Been to the market and no vendor with the 20 lbs of tomatoes anywhere in sight. Must of had a truck break down or something.

somewhere, PA

The beauty of winter squash is you can just store it in a dry coolish place. I kept my speghetti squash for a year last year sitting on a shelf in a spare room. When I said what to do with the sweet potatoes, I meant where to store them. :-) DH made me a wonderful large multishelf storage unit for squash & taters but its full now with squash. Will figure something out. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE sweet potatoes.

Ever work powdered sugar into small amounts of cooked sweet potatoes ? Makes a very good candy .Tiny bit of salt, butter ,drop of vanilla .
Lemon koolaid powder, sweetened condensed milk . roll in balls and roll into more kool aid powder . Great lemon candy

Shawnee Mission, KS(Zone 6a)

My parents used to stored sweet potatoes in the entry closet near the front door.

We have problems with storing anything for long. The southern exposure heats the house up too much. I was reading an article on cellars today. It might have been in the latest Organic Gardening. The shelf your dad built sounds very handy.

There was a 90-something year-old man who used Amargia to grow specialty melons to supplement his income. He swore the secret to his amazing health at such an advanced age was he ate sweet potatoes almost every day of his life. :-)
Today, I am thankful for the much needed rain. We have flood watches in effect, but there are no problems. reported so far. (Jim)

Today I am so very thankful for my church home and church family. I was so very discouraged this A.M. By the Lords mercy and grace I was able to get to SS and church and came home very encouraged and uplifted in the Lord. Left to myself I can be very sad for many reasons. However the Lord is the keeper of my soul and the up lifter of my heart.

May our God bless you all as you go through this day,
Sylvia

Mmm. Gingerbread and cinnamon cake.

LOL. Yes. Also Vet verified. They also know a number of commands. Food is a motivator and so is attention. Haven't taught them any "tricks" though. Not sure why not.

Greatful for ice, walks through the wild side of the arboreum, and engineers.

Dahlonega, GA

Anyone old enough to remember Dromedary gingerbread mix ? Daddy used to meke it for me when I was a kid , and so good hot out of the oven with butter .

What a striking and regal cat pose. Wish I hadn't become allergic to them, but I can share with you guys. :D

(Zone 7a)

That's my boy, Monty. I'm sorry you're allergic, too. DH is, as well, but his are relieved with meds. Which is good because we have 3! LOL

(Debra) Garland, TX

A feral cat likes to slip between the containers on my front porch and sleep during the day. Think because it is cooler there. Makes my dogs nuts if the door is open and they can see it through the glass. :-D
=========================================================================

Today, I am thankful for

tempered glass

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Monty is a bundle of furry joy! I have 3 bundles of furry joy also. Cats do obey certain commands. When i say g-e-t, they immediately jump off cabinet, table or whatever.
