She's about to...61... Summer is upon us!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Susie, I'm pretty sure I sent Spanish Fort to you last year. Let me know either way when your blooms get going.

Ditto, Faye! Among other garden features, I want a Pergola over the back deck behind our garage. That area only gets morning Sun but I swear the heat radiates all day. A guy up the road wants close to $1000 for one with a 12' X 12' footprint...there ain't no way I'm paying that much plus his delivery fee.

Keep us posted on your progress, happ. It sounds like you know how to wield a mean saw ;D

There's so many plants that have popped open in the past few weeks, it's impossible to pick a fav. So here's a random one.....Daylily "Black Eyed Susan". Well ya'll know I had to have one...lol

sorry you guys, i lost the thread and thought you were all just not posting.. Faye your lillies are beautfiul.. Neener I am so sorry for your loss, hugs and prayers your way..
You would not believe how different my "used to be brug fence" looks..
Sister is not doing well, she wants me to wait until her surgery, new chemo is still kicking her butt.. I AM going to go down the week of her birthday and that will be her last cemo before surgery, we were supposed to be going to texas that week..
i got a new office, it is really nice, not much in the way of blooms here except the monardas and rudbeckias and cones.. Brugs on the south side of the patio are not used to full sun, they are my favorites.. guess will move them to the dogrun for now..
Bonnie's oleander and her two special mandevillas came back this year after spending the winter i her basement.. mine died..

that's about it, off to bed, work comes early. I have never seen the neighbors this way.. I hate it here now..

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn....... GM everyone. It's Tuesday and one day closer to Friday and the holiday weekend. SO glad to have it .... taking and extra day off next Tuesday too. I hope I can get things finished up planting around here. With being a month late getting started because of the cool May, I feel like I'm never going to get everything set up so I can enjoy it. ~sigh~

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

That's too bad Debra. Before you had your own little retreat in your backyard ..... kind of 'private'. I'm sorry about what they did, for you. On the bright side, everyone can enjoy your beautiful flowers.

here you are Debra! Glad you were just lost and not sick! Sorry to hear your Sister is not dong well, still sending lots of thoughts and prayer!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Maybe they are not done yet Debra? Maybe they are going to do something beautiful? Least can wish. We will have to send you big plants to block the view!

dahtzu, oh my I looked at the dayliles and they are beautiful. Loved Pug and Swedish Girl they were exceptional. I have th och (can't remember how to spell that) I think it is a realy beauty also. Oh please show me a pic of your pergola, I would love to see it.

I love working with wood. Must take after my DGF who was a cabinet maker altho I never met him. I built an octogen shaped picnic table and the first real thing I built was my glider. DH about had the big one when I came home hauling all this lumber and piled it in his driveway! He said when to you expect to have this done, (it was the 4th of July weekend), told him when the first snow flew. I was right I sit in it the very first time on the very first snow of the season! rofl! I figured if "they" (the guys can do it) I can do it. I may not have the arm muscle they do, but I have brain power to figure out how to leverage something into place. One thing I have problems with, not digging the holes, pouring the concrete, cutting, measuring, or that stuff, but getting something square! ugh! When I built the raised concrete beds I did what they told me to with the string and all that, but much to my dismay it didn't work so good. So I am going to give it a try and if it doesn't work I will go drag him kicking and screaming to help set the poles...rofl.

Most of you have seen the glider but here is a picture of it the last project this year will be building a potting bench as soon as I figure out exactly what I want.

Hey everyone!

I am back home now. Thanks so much for all the good thoughts and prayers and all the support. This has been , well, pretty awful even though we knew it was coming. It happened fast and I don't think it has really hit me yet.

Anyhoo, glad to be back at DG and it will take me a while to get in the swing of things. Happy Birthday Happ. So sorry I missed it. I used to be better about this stuff.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

So sorry to hear about your Dad.. no matter that you knew it was coming.. I am sure it is still difficult.

Debra. that is awful to lose those shade trees and shrubs for your brugs. Did they at least say anything to you before starting the carnage? My neighbor removed 4 - 25 year old pine trees along my property line.. I am actually happy to see them gone due to the mess I was constantly cleaning.. but it has been a huge shock to my front yard! I am still getting used to the different look of the front of my property and it has been many weeks.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I took woodworking in high school, so kinda know my way around a saw and level. I loved working with the wood. My DH now is really good at building things, so he does most of that stuff now. We don't have all the tools I had when I was in school, but he seems to do well without them. I probably could if I had to, but I'll let him.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Welcome back Neener! So sorry to hear about your Dad.
You have been missed, and we are glad your back!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

WOW happ! You built that glider! You go girl, so smart. No way could I do that. happ. our pergola is vinyl. We chose vinyl because our sunroom is vinyl and the biggest reason for choosing vinyl was maintenance. We wanted white and didn't think we could keep it painted. Will post 4 pic. showing the result.

Faye, that is so pretty!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you dear friend. We have enjoyed it so much.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Very pretty. I'd like to do that over our hot tub.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

My jacuzzi is on my covered patio so I can't do anything over it but it sure would be nice to be able to have it somewhere to have something like that around it!

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Hey gals.

Talk about swinging in the breeze, happ. I've seen your pic before but didn't have a clue you made your gliders. I'm a frady cat of power tools and my hat's off to you and Patti for being able to handle them. We bought 4 glider rocking chairs for our anniversary several years ago for our back porch and just love sitting in them under the ceiling fans watching the World go by. Especially today when it was too hot to do much else.

How beautiful, Faye :)

Debra, check out this Morning Glory I'm pretty sure came from seeds you gave me. There were several blooming this morning and they all looked the same with a little dip in the petals that formed a heart.

Thumbnail by FruitOfTheVine
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love that color! Do they all have splits like that?

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Every one of its blooms have splits like that, LK. I've never had or seen a heart-shaped Morning Glory before.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Neener, I thought (logically) I was ready with my Mom, but I think I was shocked that emotionally I just wasn't. Still not, but like everyone knows time does heal and the sad will be replaced with the happiness. I for once kind of wish time would hurry up......

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Faye, your pergola is beautiful, I love the white it is amazing! I can only hope mine will come out 1/2 that good. I love your top looks like you get really good shade from it. Thank you so much for posting the pictures. Love the candles hanging down over the table, that is too cool.

People come over and assume DH made the glider and tell him how much they like it, he laughs and tells them thank you....rofl.
I must admit I learned alot when I was single and bought my house, then DH and I built this house, so I learned alot more! He hates woodworking, but loves metal working so he has no problem letting me do it. I need to clean the glider and put stain on it, course one of many things I need to do...rofl.

Vine full of hearts, gotta love that.

Look at this cone flower I found today! These are all suppose to be those double toppers or whatever but of course most of them are good old fashioned cone flowers... ;) Except this one is something else.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

love that white pergola, how beautiful! I couldn't build a box, Joyce, you Rock at everything you do..LOL

I guess the big cottonwood won't come down until weekend after next he said.. poor squirrels.. LOL I told him they lived inside of it..the biggrest branch is over my corner garden, so they are going to plank the garden so the falling limbs don't ruin everything. Gee it is all blooming , too. I saw two new cones I would love to try at Lowes tonight, took Paula there to pick out an obelisk for her pot of morning glorys I started for her, sunk it and now they will have some thing to climb.
Fruity, those mgs are called " Split Personality" sure hope you get some cool japanese blooms this year..
you gals that have jacuzzis... I will be right over ..

Hey gals, have a question for those that use a label maker to make their plant tags. I made some last night and put on the plastic T tags, but they don't stick real tight, I could peel them off. Do you cover them with tape or something to keep them on there? The tape I bought was suppose to be clear, but it is white. Oh well, guess I'll go ahead and use it. I used my paint pen on one side and the labels on the other. I had some heavy wide packaging tape that I put over them, so we'll see.

Have a great hump day. Long weekend coming up, and I took Tuesday off too. Wooohooo. Stay cool. Monday we set a record 106* here breaking the 102* record. Man was it HOT! Forecast is triple digets the next 4 days, then 2 days of 99*. UGH!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Crit, that is too warm. About the same temps here.
Susie, beautiful blooms! Good luck at the dentist. I am off for a CT scan, I will be back later.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Crit that is awful hot...omg! I will stop whining...well maybe...LOL

Debra, they are changing your garden by changing theirs.....wowzer. I know how different our property looks by us taking down the sick pines....bet it is strange I am sure for you to look in the yard because of the changes...wow. That is why I am doing the pergola, I won't have one ounce of shade on the west side of the house. Well, I do have a tulip tree but I think it is 5 feet tall, maybe, hard to stand under the 1 1/2 ft limb.

We drain our grey water onto the 3 acres quite aways from the house. I finally got down there last night and cut the tall grass and exposed the hardy hibiscus. I was so excited to see kopper king hibiscus coming back, I thought it had died out last year, then I finally found the other 3, I just love them. The grass must of been 3 feet tall with all that moisture and i don't let DH mow to close because of the hibiscus. Can't wait for the blooms!

Oh man deejay if your gonna be in the 90's I am gonna be cooking! Yikes!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone, goodness at all the pretty blooms. Susan and Debra, thanks to you, I have pretty MG's blooming too. My favorite so far is Chocolate.
Susan when we had our pergola built, the labor was as much as the vinyl. Our patio is 16x16, the pergola was very expensive but well worth the cost, because the shade it provides we are able to sit out their much more.

This is Chocolate Morning Glory!

Question...Did your Dave Garden page setup change? Mine did. Can't say it's for the better, liked it like it was.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

dG changed the layout of the pages, and no one likes it! We have all complained, and so far no one is listening.

Love that chocolate morning glory!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Phew I thought I was losing my miind on the page change. I don't like it either. Not sure why they would do that since the information is still the same just in a different place.

Oh Faye, you gotta save me some seeds from that MG, Please!!! While I was gone over the weekend my yellow hardy hibiscus that came from your seed, bloomed it's first bloom. I missed it and was so bummed out. It's loaded with buds and I'm waiting for the next one. Should have white dats blooming in the next few nights. So glad my Mom is finally going to get to see the garden this year. She is coming down next week .to stay for a few days. So much to show her. Those RU daylilies are still doing amazing things. I'm so thrilled I can't tell you. I am really gonna owe some people big time for all the lovelies that they have shared with me this summer.

Love you guys for being there.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Another Conca d'or blooming. I LOVE THESE!!!! Wish they were a brighter color, but oh, they smell so good. I did finally cut it and bring it in the house so I could enjoy it. Also have Robina blooming. They were scenting the whole back yard. Here is my Stargazer in bloom.

I feel your pain Susie. I go on Friday. UGH!

My datura moonflower has started blooming. I missed the first one but saw these last night.

Thumbnail by Crit
Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

UGH! Dentist! UGH! LOL I have to do that on Friday. I feel Susie's pain. ^_^

Our back yard looks different too. DH cut down the mimosa tree that was dying off. I am having him leave the stump about 2 1/2 feet tall to use to put potted plants on. We are putting round up on it, then I'm going to put Thompson's water seal on it. The inside of the tree is beautiful. It had 3 trunks that had grown together. One of the 3 had already been cut back when we bought the house, and the other 2 were looking really bad. I hated to see it go as the hummers, black swallowtail and pipevine butterflies all liked it. I have another one in the pasture not far from the back yard. There are a couple volunteers on the outside of the privacy fence out back too, so there will still be something here for them.

My dahtzu moonflower has started blooming. I love these. My mom had them when I was a little girl and they always smelled so good. Also have lilies Robina, Conca d'or and Stargazer blooming.

Oops. Had already posted. Guess I had a senile moment! LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful blooms everyone! Susie, I don't like dentist either! I put them off as long as possible!

Well, I went in for a CT scan this morning and they needed to inject a contrast dye for the images to show up better. Well, guess who found out the hard way I am allergic to iodine contrast? I got through the test just fine, they took out the IV and I walked across the room and sat down to put on my shoes. When I reached for the first shoe, my throat and face started burning and itching really bad. They went to get the Dr. And by the time he got there, I had hives on my neck, throat and face. So they immediately put another IV in my wrist, and gave me steroids and liquid benadryl. I had to call Todd so he could drive me home after I spent at least an hour so they could keep an eye on me. When I got home, I had a very nice benadryl nap! All is well now, but I was told to never allow anyone to inject me again with that stuff!
