Best/Worse/What I did learn today? Chat with friends..

...So after wards, we decided to go to Gales Street Inn for dinner, We all just love the place and it's around the corner from Grandma's.

While standing in the parking lot having a puff, guess who pulls in and yells at us...I think you guys are stalking me, lolol.

We started laughing and i said, hey we were here first, your stalking us!
So we decided to celebrate at one table!!

Yep, it was George!! Turns out his mom lives a couple blocks from the place.
But it was real nice to finally meet his parent and family, we had a great time.

Judy, where were the garden gloves? Not quite 99 today but hot none the less, place cooling quickly..nothing worse than trying to sleep and you can't breath.

My brother Mike's birthday so I must go call him, them my step father had an operation this morning so another call and then a friend called to tell me a friend had passed away so will make another call..by then it should be bedtime!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Talk about a coincidence Judy, looks as though you are all one happy family...

Glenview, IL

George is one of the many Eddie Haskells, lol...

His mom and i chatted for a bit, I couldn't believe, first she asked if I was part Native, said I was Native, then she said are you Ojibway?

Glenview, IL

woohps, hit send to soon.

Anyway, George spends a lot of time at our house...He get a little excited and talks with language that hurts my ears!!
So, one day I asked him, to sorta chill on the language, he said ok, but you know kids, forgot and i heard more then i wanted.
So, I said ok, every time I hear you say that, I'm going to put you to work, lol...Sure enough, words went flying and he got put to work!
LOL, i make him do the heavy lifting...Got a lot of things put away.
hehehe, and now he corrects other kids.

Debbie, How are you doing? Did the PT help today.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How did she recognize you were Ojibway Judy? Insure I told you many times that my best friends in school were Ojibway and Christian Island that I go to either by ferry or with the Foxy Lady I'd an Ojibway reserve

Yes, know one Eddie Haskell in particular, always enjoy his visits to this day!!

Judy, penetanguishene my home town is an Ojibway name..means place of the white rolling sands

Here is a bit of ingo on our tribes...putting out more bait so that you visit. Lol

Christian Island (Ontario)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Christian Island is a large island in Georgian Bay close to the communities of Penetanguishene and Midland, Ontario. The island, with its neighbors Hope Island and Beckwith Island, is a 5,428.1 hectares (13,413.1 acres) Ojibwa reserve, known as Christian Island 30 Indian Reserve. Together with the 7.5 hectares (18.5 acres) Christian Island 30A Indian Reserve located at Cedar Point, Ontario and the 3.1 hectares (7.7 acres) Chippewa Island Indian Reserve located in Twelve Mile Sound, 27.5 kilometres (17.1 mi) north of Christian Island, it forms the land base for the Beausoleil First Nation.
Together with other First Nations in the area, the Beausoleil have filed a land claim for lands situated between Matchedash Bay at Coldwater and the narrows at Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching.[citation needed] While the Chippewa Island reserve is shared among Beausoleil and two other First Nations, the two Christian Island reserves are not.
[edit]Background

Christian Island is primarily forest. The soil is mainly sand, remnants of Glacial Lake Algonquin. A pre-historic species of grass, known as Forked three-awned grass or unofficially as "Ice Age Grass," has been found on the Island. This is linked to its glacial beginnings. Forked three-awned grass is designated as a species at risk.
Originally, Christian Island was known by the Ojibwa as Gichi Minising (At the Big Island), but was also known for a brief period by the Hurons, as Gahoendoe. The three islands were, in the 19th century, collectively known as the Christian Islands: Beckwith Island was called Faith Island, while Christian Island, which is the largest of the three, was known as Charity Island.
In 1649, thousands of Huron refugees and a few Jesuit missionaries from Sainte-Marie among the Hurons took refuge during the winter on the island during the Huron-Iroquois wars. The Jesuits called the island St. Joseph Island. With insufficient food, many of the First Nations people starved during the winter. The island's occupation by Huron Catholics and Jesuits was the basis for its name of "Christian" Island. Specifically, it was named in honour of the Canadian Martyrs.
The Jesuits and most of the Huron refugees left the island and travelled to Quebec in the summer of 1650. The remaining Huron, along with the surviving remnants of the Petun, an Iroquoian group living at the base of the Niagara Escarpment near present-day Collingwood, left the island in 1651. The Petun had suffered serious losses in Iroquois raids in late 1649 and 1650. Their descendants eventually settled in the Detroit-Windsor area. Some were later forcibly resettled by U.S. authorities in Oklahoma.
Christian Island is inhabited by the Beausoleil First Nation. Their ancestors were nomadic, traveling from northern Georgian Bay and the United States around Lakes Huron and Michigan. The early Canadian government tried to assimilate First Nations peoples into the larger society. They encouraged the Beausoleil to give up their nomadic ways and settle at Coldwater in 1834-1842 as part of the Coldwater Narrows Reserve. Later the Natives were displaced to Beausoleil Island in 1842, and still later, were displaced to Christian Island in 1856, where they have remained.
The First Nation has tried various ways to generate income on the small reserve, including stocking the island with pheasants for hunting, a cattle operation, a charcoal operation, and a commercial fishery. A portion of lands are designated for cottage leasing. Today, many of the residents work on the mainland, and a growing community has sprung up on an annex of property at the Cedar Point landing. Hope and Beckwith islands are uninhabited, but are popular anchorage sites for boaters, who pay a small anchorage fee to the First Nation community.
The First Nation operates an elementary school, a health centre, and a community centre. 24 hour EMS service and a volunteer fire department operate year round.
A ferry service connects the mainland at Cedar Point to Christian Island. A car ferry, the Sandy Graham, travels the strait between the Point and the Island on a regular schedule. Another ferry, the Indian Maiden, carries passengers only. It is capable of breaking ice up to 6" thick. A hovercraft serves the island in case of emergency. At times of severe cold, the people build an ice road between the island and the mainland.
Christian Island has a lighthouse that marks the southern tip of the island. It was used in the past for ships travelling from Collingwood to Penetanguishene, Midland, and Parry Sound.
Canadian folk singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot penned a song about Christian Island in 1972 ("In the Lee of Christian Island"), alluding to the popularity of the island as a sailing area.
Christian Island is a popular camping spot and a place where cottagers come to relax in the summer time.

Wow, Great history there Betty!! Thank you for posting it.
I sure do remember you telling me!

OMG, you know i always wear gloves, they were the really thin rubber ones with the mesh, and I was using a hand trowel, didn't even know I had the blister till it popped open. Cleaned real well, but it's still hurts.

Well, Julia and I both were amazed that she knew exactly our tribe...Turns out she has some Native blood too, She said she has always been recognanse of Natives, but really no one has ever pin pointed the exact Tribe by Traditional Name like that.

Crissy, I hope you get your toothbrush back soon...

Oh Happy Birthday to Mike, Betty...sorry to hear of the friends passing.

Bev...I wanted to tell you too, watched a Bunny chowing on grass in my yard too...I hope to capture a cute picture as you have!!
I hope you are taking it easy, this heat has been brutal!
Hopefully they are figurring out what needs to be done for Scotty.

Oh Shirley!!! Was really nice to see you post the other day...Tubby's roses are on their second wave of blooms!!

OK...dinner almost ready so i've got go for a bit.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Thunder - so glad the 'fog' has lifted.... reading your post just makes me smile to know that you are smiling as well...How proud you must be for the graduation ! Sure hope you meet up with Judy.... It's like a whirligig (smile - Dianne & Thunder) ... this one meeting that one meeting the other one... I'm ready for my "Turn" #2. I have had the joy of meeting Elf, my #1 DG meeting! Maybe I can entice LK over for a BBQ but that might be a bit presumptious.... a Louisianan inviting a Texan over for BBQ. Maybe a crawfish boil instead. LOL...

LAURA !!! Great minds think alike ! I most definitely signed a back page in Thunder's book that will head to Judy. I put my name, date and location. I also put my name in the back of the same book I mailed to Dianne that is headed to Betty.... I sure can't remember if I put my name in SeedFolks... it would have been on a page in the back. I was in a hurry to get that book out as right when I read it... I reminded me of Betty and you all and I couldn't wait to get it to her.

If you get it and it doesn't have my name... would you add it as well ? That would be SO neat if... the pages of readers fills up and someone were to take pictures and post it on here! !HAPPY!HAPPY!

Judy Judy - oh how proud you are and me too.... Isn't graduation so so emotional ! The kids look great ! What a fun dinner... All those kids have your eyes....((((HUGS)))) Sounds like there is a lot to see near Betty... and what a coincidence that that Mom was able to be so exact...

Oh Crissy - my photos of the minor damage in my neighborhood reminded Thunder of the serious damage from Tornadoes ... Thunder... your hometown is in my prayers... how devastating to see your old stomping grounds and how changed in such a tragic way....

So glad Crissy's toothbrush on it's way.... :o)

I'll pop back in a bit...

((HUGS))
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Mary, I'll pass on the crawfish, but that BBQ sounds good! never know when I will be over that way!

Baton Rouge, LA

Sounds Good LK!

Oh - I did get a pic... Hubs coaxed Belle into the pool yesterday... she's just now getting comfortable on the ledge...

I keep telling him "he has created a monster" !! who knows where this will lead !? LOL.....

Thumbnail by MaryandLance
Lyndonville, NY

Oh Mary, I love that picture of Belle in the pool. Yes, I think a monster she will be. I know Izzy would be.

My day was hectic, PT brutal. DDs appointments were long and tiring, she had testing, more testing....and we go back tomorrow.

I am exhausted....and heading to bed. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon will have more news to share or catch up on.

Hugs to all,
Debbie

Baton Rouge, LA

Awe Deb... You get a good nights rest gal ! ((HUGS)) Is Shannon's testing just a precaution? Just concerned... I would think there are follow up visits... PT must be really tough... I feel for you both....
Wish I could attach a video of Belle on the ledge for the first time.... she was almost catlike... in her feeling out the steps...testing where the ledge was and the footing... and drinking the salt water here and there....

Then once she gained confidence she was running and jumping onto the ledge from the yard. Then she got TOo playful... and biting Hubby....we had to calm her down.....

I suppose Hubby and I should have had a kid of our own but no... we have Belle... LOL... The teens we have wore us out and I'm too old to have another I suppose.... LOL......

((HUGS))

No sleep left in me so here I am. Coffee is ready but I didn't bake, sorry.
Mary we had a yellow Lab (Belle reminds me of her) named Tasha. Tasha was the smartest dog I have ever had my whole life. But I digress here.... Tasha loved to swim in our pool so much that she learned how to open the gate to get into the pool and would dive right in all by herself. We did create a monster!! I taught Tasha how to turn like a swimmer when she came to the end of the pool and she used to swim lengths with me. Gee I had forgotten about that till just now.She was a hoot!
((((Debbie)))) I know that today was as hard on you as it was for 'the child'.
Took a tumble outside today and man am I feeling it now. Scraped my knees and hands, my left thumb is twice its size and I have delightful looking bruises to show for it all. My fault entirely, too busy looking ahead and not looking where I was going. Saw stars as my head get the ground!
Today is MRI day for DH!! Thank Goodness! I need to run several errands in Kingston but think I will just go back in tomorrow as he cannot sit or stand for too long.He persevered and came out to help me mix up a soil mixutre of dirt, manure and peat so I could finish planting my hanging baskets plus plant my lowly 10 mater plants. Far cry from the 4+ dozen I usually plant.I am going to container the maters this year as with just me able to tend to the garden, lawn, keep the house tidy and more importantly find things that DH will eat right now I don't have time to keep the large veggie garden up.Somehow I don't think I will miss not having it this year.
LK I was so glad to read your fingers are getting a little more limber.
Time for more coffee. Remember to do something nice for yourself today ladies!
Dianne

Lexington Park, MD

Mary I will add your name and Bettys. I was not sure if you wanted all of us writing in your books.
Belle looks like she wants to jump in.
Dianne I hope you are ok after your tumble. Does DH have pain meds to take before laying down to do MRI?
Debbie hope you were able to get some sleep. Sounds like you have another busy day ahead.
My Grandson is 4 and my youngest is 5.
Need some coffee.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, sunshine day once again, won't get to enjoy any of it as I've much to do today!

Kyle came over last night to give me the memory card of thee Island wedding my niece had, a job well done, photo's flickering and inter facing each other as they appear while their favorite songs play..got to the end, bride and groom name and made by Kyle when he noticed that it only allowed a certain amount of characters so home he went to fix before LeeAnn made 60 cd's to give to guests Friday night, so I must pick it up before I leave for work, then Sis Marg called to see if I could pick her up this morning as she would like to visit with her son in Barrie so another detour...a day of work, then perm after work and then t.v. Bingo with Ann. Leaves no time to sit and enjoy this beautiful weather..did go out and water everything this morning though..

Dianne, ouch, you could have easily broken something..you'll be slow moving this morning, if you feels it's more than aches and pain you should have it looked after while hubby is having his MRI..let's hope they find what is causing him so much distress..my hubby had bulging disks and was bedridden for months..not a happy camper, sure Sis happy dance when he had his operation..seems it's more difficult for a man to accept they are I'll and cannot do daily chores than women or is it that women just go go go regardless of the pain? Dianne, sometimes it takes only a few words from our DG friends and it takes us back in time to re-live happy and some times not so happy memories..minds are funny things aren't they..

Debbie no wonder you are exhausted, always on the run..hoping it will be a shorter day and you'll get to put your feet up this afternoon. Sending prayers that you get good news..

Laura, where will you be camping this weekend? Don't have time this morning but want to go back to your last weekend when I get time to tell you why I remembered the location..

Storm hit Toronto early this morning, lots of tree damage..above normal temps for us today...glad I got my gardens watered..much hotter tomorrow, uncomfortable temps but then all you southern ladies live with same all spring/summer...yikes..maybe I'll go to greg's for a swim...LindaKay, maybe even a quick run to Walmart for a pool like yours..

Gab when I get to work

Mary, never you mind Belle getting into that pool, think we should all have a pool party and arrive at your house one sunny day! Beautiful to say the least...

Lyndonville, NY

Very little sleep and a storm with high wind moving in didn't help.

Mary, sadly it is not precautionary. She is having some serious headache concerns. Yesterday was an MRI & MRV (vein study in head) and today is probably a lumbar puncture (spinal tap). We have a 10:30 appt. for the Neuro doc again, to review results from yesterdays MRI/MRV...and decide on next plant (lumbar) or what.

All this just happened to fall on the "June 6th...17th anniversary of remission" date, so being in yet another hospital at this time is not doing me very well. I can handle the crisis...it is after I crumble like a cookie for a couple days. I honestly do not think they will find anything and have to find something to control the headaches. He said they are definately not migraines.

I have to get Shane to school.....then Shannon up.

Have a good day, hugs all around...
Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Please know I will be saying prayers for all going through MRI's and all the testing today! I pray you all get good results!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, let us hope the migraines are from changes in her body chemistry and meds found that can help and nothing more serious..what a worry it must be for you..you are indeed a trooper, one special lady...wish I could give you a big hug..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

And I add my prayers to yours LK. We will send all the help we can...

May I add my name to the list to read the books that are going around? I've tried to figure out the titles and author but I'm going around in circles. I'd order for my Kindle if I knew....Hint, hint.

Diane I'm hoping this finds you better today and not too sore from your fall. And yes, I'm planning a stop in Kingston on the way to Betty's house. We are leaving here on Sunday the 21st of Aug. I'm thinking we will stop and see Mittsy that afternoon and stay the night up by the border. Then on Monday, I'd like to meet up with Thea in the morning and then in the afternoon, meet you in Kingston. I think maybe staying in Kinston Monday night might be a good idea and then up bright and early Tuesday to head to Betty's. Is there a hotel/motel you can recommend in Kingston?

Judy it sounds like you have been going full on since you left here. I miss you my friend. Breenie's graduation was wonderful. I'm so happy for you and the family. Only Jake to go right? What a time if you and Thunder can meet up!!!!! So many of us who can't get to the reunions are getting a chance this year. I love it...

Mary Belle is so pretty. Why was she biting? Just excitement?? Your pool looks so inviting!
Laura, it sounds like you and the family are really enjoying the trailer. Such a great family thing to be able to do... Do you get to relax too?

Norm just let me know it's time to get ready to go shopping. Got to stock up on the groceries - surgery is tomorrow. I'm thinking a day or two of taking it easy and I'll be ready to go again!!

~~~~Waving to all I didn't address directly this time but I'll be back later~~~~~
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
Received this e-mail and thought of Tubby...Tubby this one's for you....
Childbirth at 65
With all the new technology regarding fertility recently, a 65-year-old friend of mine
was able to give birth... When she was discharged from the
hospital and went
home, I went to visit.
'May I see the new baby?' I asked
'Not yet ,' She said 'I'll make coffee and we can chat for a while first.'
Thirty minutes had passed, and I asked, 'May I see the new baby now?'
'No, not yet,' She said.
After another few minutes had elapsed,
I asked again, 'May I see the baby now?'
'No, not yet,' replied my friend.
Growing very
impatient, I asked, 'Well, when can I see the baby?'
'WHEN HE CRIES!'
she told me.
'WHEN HE CRIES?' I demanded. 'Why do I have to wait until he CRIES?'
'BECAUSE I FORGOT
WHERE I PUT HIM, O.K.?!!'
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)
LOL!!! That's great Betty!!!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Did I tell you I booked the week off that you are coming Barb..keep counting the weeks I'm so excited, excited enough I might even do some cooking and baking!!! I know, you and Norm say don't go to any trouble lol is it because you know my cooking ability??? so laughing to myself
Victoria Harbour, ON
ok, you can see how bored I am today..
Airplane Ride
A stranger was seated next to a little girl on an airplane when the stranger turned to her and said,
'Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.'
The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, 'Ok, what would you like to talk about?'
'Oh, I don't know,' said the stranger. 'How about nuclear power?' and he smiles.
'Fine' she said, 'that could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?'
The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, 'Hmmm.... I have no idea.'
To which the little girl replies, 'Do you really feel qualified, therefore, to discuss nuclear power when you don't know sh*t?'
Victoria Harbour, ON
Beautiful outside, hated to come back after lunch..
Picked up an e-reader that has an MP3 and movie player..now let's hope Jeff can dowload all my step father Jim's favorites..war and cowboy books..if I can get it dowloaded before the weekend then I can take a run to the cottage Saturday or Sunday morning and deliver it..my brother Mike's birthday was yesterday and today it's Jim's so this gift will act as birthday and father's day gift. sure hope I picked a simple one that he can use it without being frustrated.
What are you all up to? playing in the gardens?
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Just got back from the chiropractor for an adjustment, sitting here eating a sonic cheeseburger, and cheddar stuffed deep fried jalapeno's. I also bought a new printer, so I need to pull the old one out, give a good dusting to the shelf, and set up the new one!
Victoria Harbour, ON
You are making me hungry LindaKay!!
Almost cheaper to purchase new printer than to buy in ink cartridge isn't it. Got to wonder where all the dust comes from..I can do the coffee table twice a day and it still needs dusting. Do you get the chiropractor tunning (lol) every week or just when you start feeling sore.
Seemed like a good idea to make an appt. after work for a perm but now that it's tonight I'm thinking how enjoyable it would be just to go home, have Ann come over for supper and play t.v. bingo...well, crossing my fingers we win,can always hope right?
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
I see my chiropractor about once a month, sure helps to fine tune, and put things back in place.
Dust is a never ending story here, with it being so dry, and we live in the desert, it just never stops.
Betty, did you ever go see your Dr, for your follow up on your blood pressure?
Good luck at bingo tonight, sure hope you hit the jackpot!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Actually I started feeling better after getting blood pressure pills and didn't go back for test results but tomorrow morning I shall call and book appt. as my forehead should have been cleared by now...
Glad the session with him makes you feel better..
well it's that time of day..gotta rush, appt. for hair is 5:30..
gab later..
lol you'll know if I win because I'll take a photo of a new riding lawnmower for you...
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
I'll be waiting for that picture!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Hot out there..we'll Joanne thought I needed a scalping, lordy it's short but will be easy to care for during the next month or so..
Called Jim, told him I picked up his e-reader for birthday/fathers day..he's excited and hopes he can learn to operate..gee whizz, the wanted $29.99 for a cover for it, thought nope, going to make two rag quilt squares and sew 3 sides to slip it in and cost will be nothing!
Ann just arrived, must win, wish us luck!!
Victoria Harbour, ON
Boohoo LindaKay, neither Ann or myself got close...guess push mower will have to do!
Barb, Ann was telling me she had a bit of a crying jag of late and as soon as she feels a bit better will be giving you a call!
Trying to stay up for midnight shift but think it's bedtime for me
chat up a storm girls ... I so enjoy getting up early a.m. to read what you all are up to
Night/night
Good Luck Betty! Win enough to fly everyone in for that Pool Party ! :o)
Hello To ALL !
Dianne... I sure hope Belle is as smart as Tasha. She seems smart but hard to tell when she is so spoiled. I'd love to have her do laps with me. Wow gal... please be careful! Hope your fall doesn't produce too many bruises and such... Good luck on Hubby's MRI....
Laura... .Thanks a Bunch ! I consider them now "our" books... They belong to Betty's Blog....I think you'll like the one Betty sent you....Hope you have good weather for your weekend ! How neat to have a child & grandchild near the same age... Often thought if I'd have had a child with Hubs maybe that would have helped to straighten the kids out but too late for "what ifs".
Betty - Ya'll come anytime for a Pool Party... just let me know so I can spruce up the yard. April and October are milder months. Maybe I can host a gathering in the near future (2014?)...get these teens graduated and on track first....
Deb... wow I bet that can be very emotional... just shows how strong you are to stay steady through it just put off the stress till it's over. I'm praying it's just as you say... and I have a lot of confidence in your medical knowledge.....
Barb... would love for you to read them... why not wait for the book via mail so you can write your name in the Back?...LOL. Whirligig #1 is headed from Thunder to Judy. Seedfolks is headed from Betty to Laura. Whirligig #2 is headed from Dianne to Betty. They are quick reads so any of them can head to you next. There aren't any other "takers" that I know of..... Elf also has a copy of Seedfolks but she may not realize it... it was a door prize I brought to our Roundup.
I'm sure Dianne may have a recommendation... if not... I recommend "tripadvisor.com" ... that's what I use to find hotels often. Thanks... we think Belle is pretty too for a mutt LOL... I think she was wound up like a child with too much stimulation and just started playing rough. Hubs found her August of last year so she is still very much a puppy! So the cataract surgery is tomorrow ? Please keep us posted on that ... I am curious about the procedure... expecting to have it one day... it's genetic.
Waving to all ! I'll pop back in a bit...
Hugs,
Mary
