Best/Worse/What I did learn today? Chat with friends..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Omg Barb, he looks so grown..isn't it wonderful that our children are able to provide the grandchildren with such learning experiences!

No wonder you are a proud grandma... How did he make out?
All this fresh air does me in, am sure a little nap and you'll be ready for another outing. Are you still out for baseball games?

Melanie, my DIL!s brother Jamie and his wife Becky have a riding school only miles from here, Kyle took an interest but Noah did not..now if he could have raced them it might have been another story..

Kids even in same household are sooo different.

Not accomplishing much, should get up and do something, NOT!

Victoria Harbour, ON

He's so handsome Barb..how old did you say he is??
He certainly did well if this is his 1st competition. How long has. He been riding?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

He has been riding for about three summers now. He is 15+1/2 and towers over my 5'3". He is my oldest.
Sean just made the All Star team for our region in NH. He is flying high......He is almost 11 (in July) and today was a practice day. So Dad took Sean to practice since he is allergic to the horses and Mom went to the horse show. Brandon tried organized sports and didn't like it and got into the horseback riding. Sean could care less about the animals and lives for baseball and soccer!!! Works out great for them.. I just feel so bad for Scott (the Dad) as he would so love to go see his son ride. His throat closes right up if Brandon even gets in the car after riding...That's why Norm or I are always picking him up at the stables.

Lexington Park, MD

Way to go Betty for finishing the race . The scenery is just so beautiful. And you must be so proud of Kyle and Noah.
Barb what a handsome young man sitting that horse. I bet he will hang his ribbons right where they can be seen everyday.
Debbie what beautiful weeds you have growing. Just love all the colors.
Wavying hello to everyone trying to finish sewing some stuff.
Do not tell anyone but still in my jammies .
Laura

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That's the best kind of day to have Laura. Just to totally relax and do what ever your heart desires. Good for you!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jammie days are the best kind of days Laura add sewing to the mixture and it's all but perfect! No community gardening this weekend?

Barb, he's kyle's age..Kyle will be 16 in December and Sean is about the age of my youngest Caleb.

Awe Barb, that is terrible that dad has allergies, I'm sure he gets a play by play and grandma takes photo's for him. Don't you wonder what grandparents who live far from their grandchildren must feel not being able to take part in their little ones achievements?? Was better when entire families lived in same communities, but that is impossible these days...know with Jeff's boys living in the city I miss so much.

Verona, ON

Handsome young man there Barb.He did well for his first outing.
Laura have to agree days where you don't get dressed are neigh on perfect.
Dianne

Lexington Park, MD

I should go water the garden but means I will need to get dressed and that is not happening at this time.
May let DH cook tonight also.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty, my oldest son and his family live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. That's where my two oldest grandaughters live. That's 2700 miles away and I miss them so much. But I have the most wonderful DIL who loves to scrapbook so is always taking pictures. She's wonderful about sending often. Plus their school is part of an art program that posts their artwork on line and then we have the chance to buy articles with their artwork on them with the proceeds going to the school. We have gotten mugs and tiles and totes and greeting cards etc... But the distance is just horrible. Did I post a picture of them from the father/daughter dance the city has every year? Maybe so but here it is again....

Barb, you've one good-looking family..never saw that photo..girls look like little princess''s.. I sometimes wonder when the other grand children come and visit and see the bond I have with the boys who live in town do they think I have a preference..love them all the same but just convenience offers the opportunity to spend more time with them

Laura watering the gardens can wait until tomorrow or if you've a pretty set of p.j.'s on go for it...b.b.q. Sounds delicious..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Barb, you must be so proud of your grandkids with all the things they do! He looks so nice on that horse! And your granddaughters are beautiful!
Laura, how are you doing?

Lexington Park, MD

Doing good LK. Just busy kids, grand kid, gardens, camping and sewing when I can. How are your fingers doing?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Doing better. Getting a little mor flexibility in them!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you are getting more use LindaKay! Have you tried sewing yet?
How is your dad doing?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dad is doing good, the weather is getting better so he can get out in the neighborhood with his electric wheelchair.
Yes, I have been doing some sewing. I can sew, I just need to take it slowly!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sewing will help you put in your day when weather is so hot that you can't be outside. Before you know it your dad will be back with you..doubtful he'd be able to stand the humidity during the summer.

With everyones weather changing so would you say the heat is worse this year?

I've been really lazy this afternoon, likely I'll be mad at myself tomorrow morning when I see all I could have been doing

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Still trying to get all the weeds at least around the daylilies but just can't get ahead. I will get out there in the morning and spray the clover with the foam. It is trying to take over. I have about half of the DLs trying to bloom. I can't stay out very long. I get one bucket full and about twenty mosquito bites and I have to come in and rest and get cooled off. Maybe I will sweat my thirty pounds of water off that is making my feet and legs swell so bad. You all have a good evening. HUGS BEV

Hello To All !

What a lovely day ! So glad everyone else has had a wonderful day as well ! Dianne... so glad you are getting outside finally... I know you are happy to !
Betty - Kyles ride looked like such a nice time... what a gorgeous bike trail ! Would that be something to do (rent bikes) "when" I come visit ? Love your comment to the nephew.... Yes everyone contributes by showing up ... and regardless of the amount Kyle has so much to be proud of ! My marketing mind is just spinning... do you think he could sell a sponsorship next year to a Bottled water company? put their logo on everything for a $Donation$....
yes - We've had record Hot temps this last week....
Betty - we were always the "out of town" grandkids and I remember thinking Grandma treated us extra special. Plus she often had to discipline the 'in towners' .... so maybe we came off as the 'good ones" LOL... I'm sure both have their advantages
Barb ... first thought I had of your DGrandson was of an English Prince.... he looks so stately... your granddaughters are just beautiful ! What a Proud Grandmother day for all !
THanks for the kind thoughts... THankfully no fatalties from the bad Tstorms... that I've heard of. LK - we actually could see the path it took but no tornadoes reported... Glad you are able to sew a bit ...that shoudl be good therapy for the fingers... Bev what a cute bunny... glad you are getting out to play in the dirt !
Debbie your weeds are So pretty ! LOL.....Laura -I'm just jealous that you were still in jammies !

Hubs & I went to buy grass at Home Depot and they had a queen palm for $25 ! So bought that too... I 'planted' grass today... fertilized stuff....Hubby & I got in the pool around 3p to cool off and finally were able to coax Belle to walk into the pool on a ledge by herself! How funny she was !
Of course that's the kind of thing one day we'll wish we never taught her ! :o)

Hubs grilled beef & pork ribs, baked potatoes, grilled squash & onions on the BBQ pit... and it was delicious. Belle is in heaven with bones....

I'll pop back in a bit... ((HUGS))
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, it has been extremely hot this year. In April, we met or broke 7 days of record heat, and many in May. Sure hope it won't continue all of this summer, or our little blue pool, will gets lots of use!
Hey Mary, sounds like you got a few nice deals today? That BBQ sure sounds good!

Verona, ON

Mary sounds like you had a great day! The BBQ sounded good to me also LK.
Hope Kyle is proud of all of his efforts Betty. Give him a hug from me please.
Sure hope the graduation ceremonies that Judy and Steve went to were in an AC building.
Judy loved the pics and commentary of your visit with Barb. I sure hope Barb when you come to Ontario we are going to be able to meet at some point on your trip.
Dianne

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Yes LK ! The Queen palm is about 7 feet tall at least ? We'd heard of 'deals' on them. They used to be around here a LOT... we had two....but all lost in the freeze of 2009....so now folks aren't planting them as much and the prices have gone down steeply...

We figured at $25 if it freezes again then... "oh well" and we replaced the previous Queens with a Mule palm which is supposed to withstand lower temps. we had that SAME "Blue" Pool as well ! From Walmart? about 4' tall? Loved it !

When ya'll come visit, LK and Dianne.... I'll get Hubs to BBQ for you as well... he is a great cook but since Betty doesn't eat Seafood...Can't have him do most of his Cajun dishes....But... his BBQ is DELISH !

Oh Judy & Barb.... I just read Judy's notes on the visit.... She is always an incredible writer... I've told her that before....but I feel as though I was there with you guys... and got tears in my eyes at the gas station... ((Armwraps))) as Judy would say.
I'll pop back in a bit.

but having some computer issues.....
Mary

Lyndonville, NY

Ia m having horrible computer issues tonight. Had to reboot twice...and it still is cutting out.

I think I am shutting down for the night.

Lots of running to do tomorrow. PT early, then an appt. in afternoon with DD in Rochester.

Have a good day....sweet dreams everyone.

Debbie

Verona, ON

Debbie right there with you at Shannon's neuro apptment. Does she still have the severe headaches? Since your PT is early and Shannon doesn't see the Neuro until afternoon do you just stay in Rochester? That's what we do when we have apptments the same day in Kingston but it sure makes for a long day!
Think the lake is just about the right temp for a quick swim. The water is high this year so the lake probably won't really heat up until sometime in July.Stormy and I will have to check that out sometime today.
Coffee is ready, newly made Gingerbreak cake for all to have. Whipped cream or butter there to go on top of the cake. My Welsh grandparents used to put butter on their warm from the oven Gingerbread cake. Yuck! Course I had a friend who used to dip his French Fries in butter before he ate them - now that I really didn't understand.
Looking forward to seeing pics from Graduation Judy!
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, sunshine day out there and a day of rest, got to love Mondays at work, time to mellow out!

Thanks for the gingerbread cake Dianne, can I take an extra piece for my brother Mike, it's his birthday today..must remember to call him after work even though I wished him the best on Saturday.

Bev, now that's a realistic bunny ornament you have there. Lol. Hope he doesn't co e a hopping to often or is he after that clover! Never heard of foam spray for clover before, have you tried it? I was out yesterday and all that is left of day lillies after all the ones I purchased were 3 and two of them completely eaten by the Lilly bug..know they hatch their eggs under leaves and under the earth around the Lilly but I'd have thought they would not have survived the winter but they did...your yard will be such a showpiece when they are all in bloom. Best you watch all those mosquito bites, easy to get infection..are water pills not working for you to rid you of the swelling in you feet?

Dianne, know I can but my toes in Georgian Bay right now as it's freezing and with cold weather we've had in May doubtful it will be warm until end of July/august if then..can you not wait to meet up with Barb end of August after reading Judy's posts??

Mary, enough bikes around that you'll not have to rent one believe me..lots to do and lots to see..you did well shopping at Home Depot, Queen palm is a steal...laughing here, you will indeed be sorry You encouraged Belle to get into the pond, now you'll not get her out! Sure hope the pool doesn't have a plastic liner.

LindaKay don't envy you your heat, I would think even the A/C would be sluggish...surely everyone has it!

Laura, did you manage to get through your entire day in jammies? How old is your grandchild? Joy of your life I'm sure

Debbie, you must be off and running this morning..much to do in your world..hope outcome gives you peace today! Did Paul get the roof done?

Judy, how did the graduation go..share a photo or two..big sigh of relief now that it's over..one more to go!! Will Jake be working with Steve this summer?

Not sure I've responded to all, wrote this post between doing watering the plants and inside chores..feels better when I leave to know they are done.

So catch you all when I get to the office

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

That is my little buddie in my garden. The foam is roundup. I haven't really given the meds a chance yet. I guess I want instant gratification LOL. Scotty is doing good, but they had him sleeping in a hospital bed and didn't have him sitting up high enough with his sleep apnea and he quit breathing so they got oxygen fast. They came and got his lift chair so all is well except his edema is bad again. They don't keep his legs elevated. I am going to go trim a bush or two before it gets hot. HUGS BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

Talk about a gorgeous bush..is it a flowering crab tree??? You'll not prune that one though will you Bev?

I've about 7, bought a few years ago, my error was not looking at the colors, think I have 2 darks ones the rest very light pinks..wow and double wow..

Maybe Bev you'll have to make up a list of the nursing you gave Scotty which you did learn over the years and it might be of some help making Scotty's life a bit easier.

Not going to say I wish I had a fun of those bunnies running around.. 2 bunnies = 100...so far so good nothing except lily beattles..

Don't think we can buy round-up here anymore, think it's been banned..poison ivy in back bush so maybe if USA still sells it I should purchase some and spray that area...do know I need ant powder for the hills outside though..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy was it this past weekend you went to Joplin?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good Morning!, yes it's still morning for some of you! LOL

Betty I went to a RU on Saturday. Had a blast but boy was it way Way WAY too hot! There are probably pics on the Midsouth thread.

We have Round Up! It works great as long as its not diluted too much. There are better things that work for poison ivy though, they make poisons that are made just for poison ivy, oak, and sumnac.

I'm going to try to catch up with the threads.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

great lakes Il... near chicago is where graduation is about 22 hours drive, we will be with Kyle's girlfriend, probably her and Hubby will do most ...if not all the driving...I DO NOT like to drive on the highway!!!

did not realize Judy was close to there...maybe she could come visit us at the Hotel??? Saturday eve?? I could give her the book I was supposed to send....bad me....we are going to be in girlfriends car, and she will be at the airport fri night / sat morning starting at 2am to be with Kyle...do not know at this point what time his flight out will be (to his new station) most likely to Charleston South Carolina..soooo she could end up being there all day saturday and that will mean we will have no transportation to do anything...don't have any idea what is available as for public transport...other than the hotels have shuttles to the base....there is a "centennial celebration" at the base Saturday that we are thinking of going to. Anniversary of Navy something??? and 4th of July celebration.....

Barb, I am FINALLY mostly over the depression, I was in from sailor leaving.... :)

gets better every day, and of course now that I talked to him on the phone !! and I "heard" in the tone of his voice..... that he is good.....and we get letters now.....I am doing better...... and of course it is always a great day to talk to my little angel on the phone or on the computer skype!!! It is a good spot...in my little corner of the universe ^_^

Betty, Your Kyle is AWESOME very happy you had such good weather for his event...

can't think what else I wanted to comment on :( love and hugs to y'all

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

JUst remembered, looking at Mary's photos

Ya know the tornado that hit Massachusetts??? Monson!! we lived there for 15 years!!! if you saw the photos of the white church on the hill...that got the steeple blown off!!?? that is where our cubs/boyscout meetings were.....and the grocery store??!!! I worked there for a few years.....

Have friends in the area, and that is the town my DIL is from....sending a "care" package to a friend there and she will distribute to some of those in need....wish there was more I could do....

please add the people of this town to your prayers...

Thumbnail by barefootT
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Wow Thunder- I didn't realize your family was sos close to me. We are only about 75 miles north of there!!!. We have donated to the tornado relief fund but do you think there is a specific group or place that I should also send to? Please let me know and it will be done....

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG, so sad seeing churches that are centuries old and the heart of communities hit by these storms..heart just breaks for those in the parish..

If you go back in yesterdays photo to the church on top of the hill, just below and along side there was damage by last year's tornado..Crissy explained why parts were hit and others not..she is so tornado knowledgeable..

I'm so glad you've climbed out of the black hole Thunder, awful place to be and one not easily overcome...yes, you are probably if near the airport 1/2 hr. to 3/4 of an hour away from Judy..now wouldn't that be something for you to meet up with her..

You will so enjoy your trip and Sailor boy will shine as he graduates knowing his family has made it..didn't realize there was a big base so close to Chicago..we have a large army post just on the outskirts of Barrie..Camp Borden .. I often go watch the Snowbirds fly, usually July 1st. There was some talk of them no longer flying because of the aircrafts being so ancient..will have to check that out.

Crissy your toothbrush is in transit..

Speaking of books in transit, Laura did you receive the one I mailed to you on behalf of Mary that was posted from USA on my last trip?

Lexington Park, MD

I am sorry Betty but yes I did get it in the mail and must not have mentioned that I received it. I will take it to read this weekend as we will be camping.
After thought but would it be ok to put name in the book after reading and mail to next person. That way as the book travels the person receiving the book can see where and who has read the book. Any thoughts???

Glenview, IL

Glad everyone has made it through graduations! We have a lot of them this year.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy did want to mail it sooner but was worried about the strike...it's still on but it's rotating so let's hope it's not a long wait.

Laura think that would be a marvelous idea about putting our names in the cover..please add mine! You will enjoy it.

Judy you both did it..congrats..been a few hard years for you both.. Now on to the future!

Think Thunder will be very close to Chicago..isn't Chicago on the great lakes??

Susan, today should have been you evaluation for being full time..how did the meeting go?
