Today, I am thankful for...#5

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Today I am thankful for finding you guys are still up and at it. My computers was not showing any 'new' activity in any Threads I participate and I did not have the time to check them out further.

Iowa Ann - I am thankful for your son, and others, as they serve for our country. Give him a hug!

I am thankful the doctors were finally able to identify the source of DH's chest pain he has had since he totaled our car 6-6. Not so thankful for the fact that is a broken breast bone and that there is nothing that can be done, but pain management. Third try was a charm in finding an Rx that works. Not so glad to be the chauffeur when he finds stuff to do out there for the whole day. My floors were sooo ready to vacuum and mop a week ago.

I am thankful the little family living in our RV was united with their husband/Daddy in Tiajuana . They will live in MX now, then further down in their home town near Mexico City. I only hope they will be safe in the current conditions. They were like family to us, having lived here since 2005, and the 7 year old called me Grandma. Very sad seeing them go. Not happy they had to leave their doggies......

I am thankful for our coolish spring, even if the veggies are not. Debra, the night you only got down to 78, our high that day was 77! Very unusual for us as our 'averages' are the same or higher than yours in summer. Have some 90's and 100's coming this week, so the AC will need to be used. Fortunately we can still open windows at night for cool air even during hot days.

I am thankful I am back amongst friends - hugs to all.

Today, I'm thankful Quilty found us again!

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm thankful that I live in the country where people don't get upset over a dandelion growing in their yard or in their neighbors yard! LOL! They'd have a heart attack if they lived out here! :)

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, like kwan, I am thankful quilty found us again.

and, like ann, thankful for easygoing neighbors

and, quilty, i am thankful it is a broken bone OVER the heart, which will heal eventually, and that it is not the heart itself which is "broken" (in the medical sense of the adjective). [hug]

Digger, did Vickie take Sally or is this a different rescue dog? Vickie came down here a couple of weeks ago and I think she'll make a marvelous new dog mommy either way.

Debra

Yes, I know. :-) I meant is Vickie getting Linny's stray dog, Sally, that she needed to rehome.

What kind of dog is Scoot?

Dahlonega, GA

No , linny is keeping Sally . Last March on our way back from Texas , I found a starved dog at a truck stop and brought him home with me . Named him Scoot . I started a thread on pet forum called How Inhumane and Cruel . I already had 4 little dogs that we travel with , including Rusty , the Westie I had gotten from Linny . Rusty was going to be a dog I was getting for my son , but that didn't work out so I kept him . The starving dog was so pathetic and sweet , only wanting a kind word and food that Vicky saw the pictures and knowing I couldn't keep him , she offered to give him a home . It really was a blessing because I would have to have taken him every weekend to Pet SMart with the humane society to try to get him adopted out . I couldn't spend that kind of time and no guarantee that a home would be found .I was between a rock and a hard place with him because I couldn't travel with five dogs and we were committed to spending a month in Colorado with another couple .I did find a girl here that was interested in him and took him home , but her cat was terrified of him so she brought him back . I had all his shots and neutered so that no one would have to be out that expense . We also had a guy from up Indiana (I think )offered to help with him but Vicky had already said she wanted him so we started working on a way to transport him to her . It works out that we will be going within 40 miles of her home .
Go back and read that thread and you can see how truly thankful I am .
To answer your question about what kind of dog is he , only God knows . He's white with black spots and uses his front feet like a boxer , bounces around like one but looks like there may be a little dalmatian in his coloring .

Oh, my, Scoot is a Vickie dog fer shure!! LOL

Dahlonega, GA

I sure hope he is . I have a feeling , any animal that was mistreated would be a Vicky animal . I think she's pretty special .

Today, I am thankful for fresh strawberries on sale.

For the blessed rain last night.

And for the lovely, lovely Darker Shade daylily that opened today.

(Zone 7a)

Oh my...how beautiful is that!!! Where can one purchase that, Deb?

(Debra) Garland, TX

Kwan, got it from eBay. Owner's name is Robert Selman. EBay seller ID is blueridgebuttons, or his website is blueridgedaylilies.com.

(Zone 7a)

Thank you!

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

That is really pretty. I have not tried daylilies and have thought to as from readings they appear to be so hardy from snow to very hot. The ones at the big box stores and planted around town are the boring orange yellow ones. Do they double up like Cannas? I like the self propagating plants so if you wait you will not need to buy more! I have been dividing my purple fountain grass like that and originally it was 2 big plants free curbside!

The veggies are thankful for our current heat (us, not so much). It went from 77 as a high on Sunday and I comfortably wore a short sleeve sweater all day, to 98 on Monday when I could hardly stand to handle that sweater from the dryer. We knew it would come....

Darling dog Digger. Of the 2 dogs left behind by our Mexican family, it appears the little guy has a new home. Our neighbor's sister heard and took him home last Sunday and she has not returned him. I felt like a traitor as even though Blackie had never allowed me to even pet him, he squealed in terror when they put a leash on him and tried to lead him away. I went to him and he let me pet him, pick him up, lead him to the car all the while looking adoringingly at me. His companion, Paluca (means wig) is lonely for him. We will need to take Paluca to be groomed before anyone will be interested in him though!

Paluca will be a beautiful dog when he's cleaned up . Make sure the people that gets him will keep him clipped . I found a home years ago for a part poodle and she was supposed to be a house dog . They had money and a nice house , but when I saw the pooch a year later , she was matted up and left outside . I screamed and hollered and picked her up and took her home to look for another home for her . They screamed back but i made terrorists threats about house fires and they decided I was crazy , so left me alone to leave with her .My mom took her .

Today, I am thankful for people who take action in areas of importance to them. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men (and women) do nothing."

I am thankfulthankfulthankful for the rain we had again overnight. Dug outline of new daylily bed the crew is coming on Saturday to finish out for me.

I am thankful for the temporarily cooler temps this evening so I could dig the entire outline without total collapse. [grin]

Jim recently took the clippers to our lab mix himself. She has the double coat typical of labs so she suffers in high summer.
Speaking of hair, thanks for the link on where to donate mine, Debra. Having it cut short next month is going to be my b'day present to myself. Very long hair looks odd on someone my age. Glad you got some rain. We are doing major hard-scaping so it isn't that pretty here this year. Your beautiful flower pics keep everyone going.
Today, I am thankful to have Nadine here for both the work she does and her companionship. k*

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm thankful for the internet. Having the world at your fingertips is so wonderful!

Midland City, AL

PJ's old dog LIKES to be groomed. She doesn’t even mind the clippers. Taking care of her is a cinch. While my own dog. Fenny, hides when she sees the comb and clippers or if she hears the word “bath.”
I am thankful for practical birthday presents. MK has a thing for quality footwear and took me shoe shopping. That there is such a thing as comfortable dress shoes was a revelation to me.
I’m also grateful that it has been rainy all day. (Prayers for those in the NW who are getting too much of a good thing.) PJ claims I am some sort of Scottish weather witch because it always seems to rain on the days when it is my turn to mow the yard. :-) ~Nadine~

(Debra) Garland, TX

You are welcome, Kay.

Nadine, what a fun kind of witch to be! :-) Want to schedule several turns to mow my yard? Maybe you could send more rain our way?
=======================================================
Today, I am thankful for...

...brussel sprouts.

...sugar-free ice cream bars.

...the fast recovery of my oldest baby pooch Russell from anesthesia. Biopsy results next week, fingers crossed.

(Zone 7a)

Oh, Deb! I have my fingers crossed for you.

Today, I'm thankful for central air.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for...

Deli ham

Swimming pools

Dogs

Dahlonega, GA

My fingers are crossed for a negative.

Midland City, AL

Debra, watching you channel your native American ancestors by doing some sort of rain dance sounds more fun than mowing. :-) Sometimes I actually have to mow awhile before the rain starts.
Today I am thankful my Black Magic cake went over well. PJ doesn't drink coffee and that is one of the main ingredients. He does not drink coffee, but he certainly enjoys eating it. lol. ~Nadine~

(Debra) Garland, TX

Black Magic cake sounds good. Can it be made with Kahlua?

============================================================
Today I am very thankful that the Russell-dog report is negative. Was kind of tumor that developed to malignancy if left in place, but was removed prior to problem and she got it all. Happy dance!!!

I am thankful that everyone showed up today and I now have a lovely new flower bed. While I pretty much sat on the porch (occular migraine, I couldn't see well).

I am thankful that enough restraint was left over today to keep from driving out for a Big Mac and fries just because of boredom. Had a bowl of cereal instead. :-)

(Zone 7a)

Yea!!! Glad to hear the negative report, Deb!

Dahlonega, GA

Wonderful report . The sun is shining again for you and pooch .

(Debra) Garland, TX

Yes, DEEP relief. Poor hyper guy even stays still to let me put the ointment on the cauterized area. Of course, he knows he's getting a treat right after, so maybe that is his motivation. :-)

Dahlonega, GA

No , not the treat . He trusts you . hugs

Midland City, AL

That's great news, Debra. Don't know what I would do without Old Tater-dog. When the pain wakes me up at night Tate is there to distract me and keep me from feeling sorry for myself. Since I'm awake anyway she thinks I should put the time to good use by scratching her ears. :-)
I am thankful for this evenings dinner. Cold cucumber soup, a handful of jellybean tomatoes and warm zucchini bread. There is something that makes you feel in tune with the world when you make a meal from veggies you've grown yourself. (Jim)

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful I am not close enough to speak to anyone in DG management in person. Therefore, I am not using my energy in having a screaming, foot stamping, squalling, cussing, high-volume hissy fit over this new page structure. I have not and will not "just get used to it." :/
=======================================================================
Deep breath...okay...better now...LOL

Today I am HAPPILY thankful for:

Daylight

David Suchet's Hercule Poirot

Domino's Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes (that you can buy in singles!)

LOL I'm having some difficulty adjusting, too, but it's better than it was. At least, for me it is. Not sure WHY they changed it, as it was fine the way it was.

Today, I am thankful for 5 Guys Burgers, Starbucks coffee and DHs who like superhero movies as much as I.

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm thankful that even though my Mom has alzhiemers she still remembers who I am. I know that in time those days will be over and even though she will not know who I am, I will always remember how wonderful of a mother she has always been.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Debra you garden looks beautiful. Maybe I could come by to see it? No kidding, I will be in Plano maybe around the 8th to visit family. I am flying to FL on the 4th to pick up a new (to us) used car DH bought online (crazy, yes) on the 5th and then will be driving to CA, so far by myself. Taking the hot, humid southern route and can add MS, AL & LA to my repertoire. Anyone up for a road trip?

Today I am thankful we found a home for shaggy Paluca. Paluca means wig and we had him groomed Sat. and he no longer fits his name. Here is an after shot. Someone having their dog groomed saw him and when she heard he was available, wanted him. She picked him up yesterday. Funny thing, after grooming he was not stand offish anymore and wanted lots of petting and snuggles, then was scared of his new mommy. I felt like a traitor again. He also thought that now that he was cleaned up he should be allowed to come into the house. No way, not pee-pee boy.

I am thankful I found a cheap airfare to Ft. Lauderdale by flying on the day of the holiday. Almost 2/3 less.
