Today, I am thankful:
To have finished planting the small bed at the office this morning AND potting up the 12 Daylilies at home this afternoon that were about to dry out.
To have so many lovely Daylilies blooming right now. Picture doesn't show them well, but they are truly satisfying. :-)
To have enough energy to still walk after spending too much time in the werry, werry, werry, warm sun today. LOL
Today, I am thankful for...#5
Today I am thankful for lemonpepper chicken, fresh from the garden vegetables and that I've finished widening the door to my bedroom and now have easy wheelchair access.
Also, that the people with whom I sharespace didn't say a critical word about my planting beets in the front porch rail planters this year. I have no problem tending them there. lol. (Jim)
Military nurses. We saw a movie today called So Proudly We Hail, 1943. I Highly recommend it.
Debra your planter looks great. I love the variety of pavers you used, how clever.
Jim, yummy fresh veggies - what are you picking already? I picked a purple pepper, sweet banana pepper and a 'discovered' (from a volunteer patch) just less than 1" potato. Later I saw a cuke that is about 4", I will let be for awhile. That cleaned me out on ripe stuff!
Today I am thankful DD helped me mix some Quikcrete concrete (a first for both of us) to put at the base of the fence to keep mischievous Miniature Pinschers from digging out. That is in addition to 170' of wire and concrete a laborer put in for us last week. Them dogs are determined to roam free!
quilty, at least half are "found" materials the previous owners left. And, I'll see pavers and such on sale or clearance and buy a bunch because "I can use them later." This year, even used a pile of red brick my former BIL brought over some years back that's just been patiently sitting. As long as they are compatible colors and I like the textures, I'll find a way to mix them up. :-)
Today, I am thankful for...
...little dogs who come cuddle when I'm feeling sorry for myself (like today LOL).
... quart size Powerade bottles. Found out this afternoon that if you saw off the top, and poke a couple of holes in the bottom, they make right fine pots for thimble-sized plant plugs--especially when you are out and have used every other possible temporary container in sight. Yea!
...fresh Pico de Gallo with lots of cilantro and lime.
There is a lot to be thankful for today.
-PJ’s front porch vegetable garden. I’m not much on beets, but I like the ‘Muncher’ cucumbers in the hanging baskets, the tomato in the topsy-turvy planter and the lettuces. I guess because the porch stays cooler the lettuce growing on the porch hasn’t gone bitter from the heat yet.
-The show Kamen Rider Den-o, a Japanese tokusatsu (a live action show involving special effects and people in costumes. The Godzilla movies are classic examples of “tokusatsu.”)
-A sort-of-grandfather (my god-father’s father.) who will listen to me prattle endlessly about my current Japanophile obsessions despite being a veteran of the battle at Okinawa during WWII. He just laughs and says: “The times they have a’changed.”
-The chance to write an article for a gaming magazine and get paid for it. YES!!!
~Nadine~
Yea, Nadine! Um, excuse, me, I mean Madam AUTHOR Nadine!
======================================================
Today, I am thankful for:
The gorgeous and various flowers opening up in my yard. I'd go roll around out there reveling in them if it weren't for the fire ants...and the prickly grass...and the mosquitoes...and the heat...well, I am STILL thankful for the gorgeous and various flowers opening up in my yard! LOL
The movie, "The Best Years of Our Lives." Appropriate for today. :-)
Dark brown sugar. What would a really good chocolate chip cookie be without it?
Today, I am thankful for Methocarbamol and Tramadol (muscle relaxer and painkiller). I overdid a little.
Quilty, I harvested the last of the English peas. They’ve never lasted this far into summer before so they were a treat. As well as those ‘Muncher’ cucumbers Nadine mentioned and ‘Jellybean’ tomatoes. I use perimeter collars for my muts, but whenever I have to buy batteries, I wonder if the pen wasn't a better idea in the long run. You can get some weird looks when you mention you need to buy batteries for your dogs. :-) (Jim) .
Debra, though I would share this photo. A DG friend (faywray, Sue in OH), a frequenter to the T2T Forum, sent this photo of what she did ONE DAY, with bricks and stones one of her sons brought home when his boss was re-doing his back yard. They are a very clever and crafty family. One son works for a company that allows him to bring home all these wood pallets. The BIG size wood pallets. Dad has brought home old wood from barns being torn down. With those wood sources they have a. put in flooring; b. paneled walls; c. made counter tops; d. made furniture; e. built a deck. There probably is more.......

Oh, wow, I LIKE that! Gives me ideas, too.
==================================================
Like Jim yesterday, today I am thankful for muscle relaxers. Tripped over one of the dogs in the middle of the night. Jusssssttt a teensy tiny! bit sore today and have to get up earlier than normal tomorrow, need to get some sleep.
Thankful the dog wasn't hurt when I tripped. :-)
Thankful for the thoughtfulness of people like quilty. What a nice thing to take the time to do for me. [hug]
Today, I am thankful for:
A nice cold Fresca on a nice warm afternoon.
Santa Rosa Gardens clearance sale AND a discount coupon! Yea, Echinaceas!! Restrained myself to Harvest Moon, Milkshake, Raspberry Truffle, and Sunrise.
Shower-head wands for water hoses.
Grass-B-Gon.
Banana. pineapple and cheese sandwiches. The perfect lunch on a hot day.
Inspiration from others. ~N~
what kind of cheese?
I like cheddar best, but I'm not too picky about the cheese. I'm pickier about the mayo. As a southerner, the superiority of Hellman's has been deeply engraved into my psyche. It's the official mayonnaise of the deep south. lol. ~N~
Banana pineapple and cheddar sandwich? Really? With Mayo? Hmm, don't think I would try that one, but do like my own very weird sandwich, at least I did years ago. Peanut butter, salami and dill pickles. I was young.
Today I am thankful for beeeeauuutiul weather. Not hot or cold, slight breeze
I, somehow, don't think she meant on the same sandwich. I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time. LOL Yum!!! Sounds like a great lunch!
I loved peanut butter and tomato sandwiches when I was a kid, but I think yours tops that, Quilty.
Nadine does eat the pineapple, banana and cheese with mayo on the same sandwich. I’ve eaten a pineapple/cheese sandwich with mayo. It was actually good. I never tried adding bananas to the mix.
Today, I am more thankful for the other uses Nadine put the pineapple to. Pineapple Upside-down Cake. She was so proud of the way this one looked; she wouldn’t let me cut a piece until I had taken a picture of it. Her pineapple cakes always taste good, but she wanted proof for her friends before I cut into it that she had finally made one that looked as good as it tasted. lol. (Jim)
go, nadine! that looks mouthwateringly delicious.
===================================================
Now, I have to go get the makings for that sandwich. Is it toasted or not?
Nice job Nadine!
Peanut butter and bacon sandwhich, yummy cholesterol treat.
Today, I'm thankful for something new to try. And for the "Ad...vennnnnnnnturous Spitit" that enables me to do so! LOL
Was that adventure the sandwich?
Thankful for time spent with DD while shopping and laughing our heads off in the Target parking lot when my box of coupons tipped over and the wind was blowing. "No, no save the ice cream coupons and forget the spic and span!". I'd say that with the help of a stranger in the parking lot, we got about 95%. No small feat. Now, to resort, organize and make new file tabs. I need a box with a lid!
Kwanjin, I’ve never toasted the bread. Culinary adventures are MY favorite kind of adventure. No shots required and no lost luggage to worry about.
There is an elderly man whose grocery shopping schedule often coincides with mine. I think of him as the coupon guy. We met waiting in the check-out line. He looked at what I had in my basket, looked into his stuffed coupon organizer and gave me coupons for a number of things I had in my basket. He’s a sweetheart. He does that for everyone around him when he’s checking out. I doubt I could ever be that organized so I try to stay in sync with the coupon guy. He’s got it down to a science. Maybe, I’ll bake him a cake. The good cake fairy has been sitting on my shoulder lately. I succeeded with Angel Food Cake. Another one I had never done very well with.
It was the evening’s rain I am most thankful for today, however. ~Nadine~
Nadine - have you ever watched Extreme Couponing? I believe it is on TLC. Now THOSE folks are organized, but some really are hoarders. I like it when they have someone on who buys extreme amounts of stuff with their coupons and then donates most of it, since they KNOW they will never actually use those 150 bottles of horseradish (or whatever).
Thankful I am up before the dogs to get them outside before any potty problems. Would be more thankful if anyone else got up early to do that!
you guys are awesome!!! i always get a smile when i come to this thread!
BEAUTIFUL gardens, quilty & debra!!! what inspiration these are!!
i woke to find the water heater in our master bath had JUST broken, so here's what i'm thankful for today:
1) i was home when it happened
2) i happened to need something in my closet
3) my neighbor was home & is an electrician
4) i have GOOD neighbors who also didn't mind me calling them at 6:30 and came right over & started helping me pull things out of my closet
5) Buster had suggested i make a path so he could get in there and replace it before it burst (eh?)
6) no real damage, just wet stuff
7) i had the presence of mind to go shut off the power to the well so it wouldn't pump any more water
8) ditto... the power to the water heaters
9) the neighbor suggested i pull the carpet out completely and let it dry on the porch
10) b/c i found the pad underneath (like a sponge!) had soaked up gallons of water!!!
11) we own a shop vac so i was able to vac up at least 15 gallons of water ;-)
12) we keep a stash of cash so my neighbor offered to p/u my new water heater that he will install later today, since he has a pick up and is going to Home Depot anyway
13) i'm still able to do this kinda stuff
14) it was only $258 for materials and $100 for labor
15) it's giving me the "opportunity" to clean out my closet, and i'm seriously considering a built-in (semi-custom)
16) my XM docking station came in today, so i'm listening to my favorite station while i work
17) ... and my tomato plants & other goodies are alive and well in this 104 south Texas heat!!
LIFE IS GOOD!!!!
nadine, when the angel is visiting it is always best to pay attention to her for as long as she is there. :-)
quilty, yeah, i thought the same things. good on those who donate (especially liked the pastor and his wife that intentionally shopped to donate) and those who have large families to support. but why in the WORLD would they buy so much stuff it would take years and years to use it up and STILL they keep buying the same things? :/
cajun, wow! what a morning. and i agree you have MUCH for which to be thankful on this one. [hug]
=============================================================
Today, I am thankful that I think I have enough energy to go plant some of the 20+ daylilies waiting in containers--a dozen more are on the way. (It will be close to 100 again today and no let up in sight.)
I am thankful that it is not yet advanced enough in the season to have 80 degree morning lows. Still in the low 70s, so mornings are comfortable enough if you stay out of the sun. (Of course, my planting beds are all in full sun until about Noon, so that's a toss up LOL)
I am thankful for my sister's continuing emotional improvement. Her stepson died two years ago, her daughter died last June, she has four grandkids to support, and (with sound reason) is divorcing after 25 years of marriage. Her strength and determination humble me every day.
I;m thankful for all of that for Cajun! That could have been a horrible mess!!!
Wow, there must be a Good Fairy for hot water heaters too. One that really, REALLY likes you, Cajun.
I caught that show on TLC once. The lady purchased like $400 worth of stuff for $20. I'm the kind of person who clips the coupons and then, when I get to the store, realizes I left them sitting on the kitchen table. The coupon guy is my hero. :-)
I am thankful for those people who are willing to take on all the responsibility and frustration of raising children. I'm in awe of them. I don't think I could do it. I like children well enough. That is, other people's children. Children that I can send home when I get tired. :-) ~Nadine~
Today, I am thankful for a (sometimes LOL) understanding boss.
Dogs who "talk" to me when I'm not feeling well and they need out. Much better to be nagged to get out of bed and open the back door than having to clean up deposits on the living room floor. :-)
Pullled pork barbeque plates with potato salad from Red, Hot and Blue.

Today I am thankful for evening thundershowers and a dinner of "Anniversary Chicken" when it wasn't my anniversary. I'm sure today was someone's anniversary. Here's to them. :-) (Jim)
Talking dogs...heh heh heh...
Today, I am thankful for weedkiller, teenage crushes(the girl across the street has one LOL) brothers who call 'just because."
LOL Debra... you're thankful for one of the very things i was fussing about this morning... i have hunting-type dogs, so they get a wiff of another something out in the woods and wake me up at 4am to go outside and bark at it (fenced in dog yard)... 4 mornings in a row now. sigh. i told my husband that tonight when they're sound asleep at 7pm i'm going to wake them up and tell them i need to make sure they sleep all night LOL j/k
and i want to reiterate:
15) it's giving me the "opportunity" to clean out my closet, and i'm seriously considering a built-in (semi-custom)
not going to NEED to the built-in organizer now. i've gone thru a lot of the contents of my closet and found most things should be in storage elsewhere. if i get it down to what goes in a closet (jewelry, shoes, CLOTHES)... i will not only have ample room, but will actually have a real WALK-IN CLOSET again!!! whoohoo!! i'm about half done, and now this had done double duty. i'm also organizing my craft room to make room for what's coming out of my closet.... so i got TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!!!!
yea!!!
Today, I am thankful my head hasn't exploded. Some of you haven't heard but our kitty Isis has a tumor being removed tomorrow. I hate it when the kids have to be away from home for any length of time.
Hope Isis does well....and you. Tater dog always makes me feel guilty when I have to leave her at the vet. I bought her a cheeseburger on the way home once to make it up to her. She demands a cheeseburger every time she goes to the vet now. If I forget and drive passed the golden arches, she gets vocal about it.
Happy Birthday, Vickie (Cando1) where ever you are. Hope your having fun. I'll have Nadine make a birthday cake for you and I will eat it for you. :-)
Today I'm thankful for my early Father's Day present, an ergonomic computer chair specially designed for men my height. (Jim)
Vickie is getting ready to go home. We met up this afternoon. All of this bounty came down from Arkansas with her. And is now in my side yard. She put them in containers and everthin'!
=====================================================================
Today, I am thankful to have made it from Dallas to Canton and back in late traffic, with no construction or accident delays.
I am thankful for Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell in the same little restaurant.
I am selfishly and somewhat shamefacedly thankful that the house broken into on my street this afternoon was not mine. :/
Hello, Isis. Beguiling face you have, there. :-)
Isis is a gorgeous cat!!! Hope everything goes okay.
Today, I am thankful for Father’s Day discount sales and old milk jugs. I planted some rose vinca that didn’t have a chance to get established before it got so hot. Water disappears quickly in our sandy soil in high temps, but MK showed me an old watering technique for keeping plants going in drought conditions. The one where you make a very small hole in the bottom of a milk jug put in a little gravel and fill it with water. Then, nestle the jug in beside the thirsty plant with its lid on loosely. (The gravel is to keep it from blowing around when it’s empty of water.) It looks a bit odd to people. The rose periwinkle thinks it is a wonderful idea though. All this might be old news to experienced gardeners, but it was a revelation to me. The slow trickle of water into the ground means the plant has a chance to absorb it and there is no water wasted. Something I’m sure Papa Jim is thankful for when it is time to pay the water bill. ~Nadine~
