Prayers all is well retta!

I can't stand to stay inside all day. I go out for a while, then come in and cool off. Or take a dip in the pool and then my T and shorts keep me cooler. Nothing like getting in the pool to cool off. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

No blooms yet here, but it is awfully hot. I've placed them whee they are protected after about 1pm from the scorching rays.
I'm feeding and watering and still hoping. ^_^

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

My brugs are still alive although struggling. I have them where they receive shade most of the day, but a little bit of those stinging sun rays does a number.

Council Bluffs, IA

well mine are still alive and like you crit, they are struggling.
they do get son in the morning and shade in the heat of the day.
they are not growing that fast, still small but they are growing.

let the stalk grow from the root ball, retta, regarding your cherub. ( back from seeing sister in arkansas)

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

How is your sister doing Debra? I know she was glad to see you!!! Glad you had a safe trip.

We took the DGD's horse/donkey back riding yesterday morning. I had to take them back home last night.

Breanna thought she was really something special riding the big horse (by herself). Always before papa had led them on the donkey around, or they had to ride on the saddle with us. :-)

Very Beautiful.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I wonder if I have no blooms because they need bigger pots. They are currently in anything from 12" (last years plant) down to 8" for my newly rooted ones.
With the heat so high, should I keep them out of afternoon sun? It's amazing how droopy and nearly dead they may look and then perk right up after watering.

Help & advise please to my question above. I have posted the same (similar) question about 3 times and really dowant to take proper care of my mostly baby Brugs.

Thanks,
Sheri

Council Bluffs, IA

birdee,i'm a newbie with brugs as well.
if you can see the roots at the bottom of the pot'
then yes i would repot it.
but do not go up to a much bigger pot,if they are in say a 7in pot then go to an 8in.
hope this helps
retta

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Retta. I'm wondering if the ones just rooted over the winter don't bloom the first year

Sheri

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I'm a newby to brugs also!, but will tell you what I know.

I put mine in about an 8" pot, they were just rooted this winter. I understand they don't like to have too much room to make roots, because then they work on making roots, and not bloom or grow. I have mine where they get a lot of shade, except in the afternoon they get some sun. I keep them watered well, but not to the point they are soggy.
When you repot, just repot to the next size pot, don't go too big. I've ready about people having blooms on small (maybe 2' tall) brugs.
I hope this makes sense. It is the best I can do to help you.

Patti

Hi, sorry didn't see your post Birdie.. I would keep just rooted brugs in the smallest pots until you see roots comeing out the bottom, like mentioned above, altho mine just grow into the ground and I let them.. mine have not bloomed since their first flush this spring, the heat has taken their toll.. mine get morning sun and afternoon shade ( around the pear tree) .. and full to part sun on the now full sun south fence.. last year I had four brugs flushing with blooms that were from cuttings I had in winter.. when your brugs start Y'ing, you can count on blooms to follow.. patience is what I learned the most with these beautys..
I had a four inch cutting with two leaves go to a 9 ft tall brug with blooms at end of summer. I have had some two foot tall brugs never bloom. I don't know what you have, but some do not bloom as often as others. sounds like you are a good brug momma.. just that patience thing. the bigger the pot, the more water they hold, which can be a detriment in the winter inside. I just moved my 6ft tall brugs to large pots this spring.. and they need to be moved up a pot again, but won't until next spring, as they will winter over in those planters in the basement this year.
this was a small cutting in winter inside, it is in a hanging basket..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

that basket is sitting on a bed of hay and soil, so when I life it, the roots will have grown into that..
this was a small cutting also , well both of them were... the one to the left I had to move to a bigger pot.. these have not bloomed yet..

I have aboout 6 off shoots of various brugs around the yard, that are now fully nubbed out and ready to stick into soil, they are about the size of a pencil, half as long.. I will put them ALL in one small water bottle planter, and let them grow together for awhile.. I will not see blooms on these until next year..If I Keep Them..

this one usually flushes once every four weeks, but has only fulushed twice this year so far outside.. the heat is horrible.. all my brugs droop and wilt down in the heat of the day, but perk up as the sun goes down, with out watering them.. the plants fold down to protect themselfs from the sun I am told.. and all my plants seem to do that even the four oclocks.. I used to rush out and water them, but now I wait and finger test the soil first.. yellow leaves tell me I have over watered.. Maya has several yellow leaves right now, she is on the patio with Flamenco, and they are always the recepients of too much water..

Oh I'm soooo excited!!!! just got home from church, Baptism (58 people!) & picnic.
I have a pod!!! It is on the 1 plant that I was sent last year, no bloom last summer and now there is about a 4"pod near the top. It's about 3 1/2 ft tall. I began watering it with the water siphoned out of my aquarium the past couple of weeks. The water was really dirty for the (150 gal tank), but apparently very good for a Brug. I just cant wait to see the bloom. The poor plant looks pitiful with Swiss cheese looking leafs. I sure hope whatever has been eating the leaves leaves this bud alone. ^_^

Doing the happy dance!! ^_^

Oh Birdie! That is fabulous about the baptism's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spreay some window cleaner with amonia in it on the leaves. If it is spider mites, that will kill them. Might have to do it more than once. If any of the liquid gets in the soil, that is ok. A little amonia is good for them.

I need to clean my 33 gal tank. Hadn't though about using that on the plants.

Debra,
Thanks so much for all the brug information. Some of it I knew, some I didn't, some I knew but had forgotten! lol

Everyone please say a prayer for my gardening buddy Polly. She is a very, very sick little puppy. I took her to the emergency room for animals last night because she started passing blood in her stool, then no stool...just blood and clots. She has something wrong with her lower GI tract and is crtitally dehydrated. They estimated if I left her there till Monday morning, it would cost from $600-900. So I brought her home with medicine and will take her to my vet in the morning. I will be on his doorstep when they open!

My poor brown, dry, crispy lawn. Even the bermuda and crabgrass is brown. UGH The only place there is green grass, is around my outside plants that I water.
I thought we were going to get a good rain yesterday. Started out raining buckets, then it slowed down to a nice soaking rain .............then stopped. :-( Didn't even get 1/4".
