GM all....well, another Monday. Trying to get my umph to start another week.
For all you expert brug growers I have a question. My brugs that are growing well and leaved out well have small leaves coming out on the 'trunk'. Should I leave them or pick them off so just the top leaves remain? I'm thinking I need to pick them off, what doyou think?
Good Morning Everyone
I am sorry I haven't been on here in awhile, trying to get the other house ready is slow, there's so much work to be done, I know I owe a couple of you clipping, I will get to that hopefully next week, my water heater here at this house
busted, so there went my extra cash.
Debra, I sure hope they leave the shade tree for you
Retta, good morning, has any of the clippings I sent you done anything?
Crit, if you want your Brug to be like a tree, pick them off
here are some photo's of what's Blooming now, Prickle Pear Catcus, the good thing about them, they stay out all winter
Elizabeth
Retta, I am so glad one made it. Yeah!!!!!
Debra, the girls at "She's about to......61" were asking about you, they were worried. I let them know I had seen you on here and so did someone else, but for the life of me I don't remember if it was happ or someone else.
oh I thought they havn't posted lately, I must have lost the thread...I am scrambling to get the brugs I want to keep, and the brugs I am going to send away separated, and to the shade of the pear tree and the dog run..
hello all,yep my brugs are doing nicely.
elizabeth, sorry dear but i did not recieve anything from you.
the only package i recieved was from charleen.
yes charleen i just wish i kept the tag,but i wouldn't have know which one it was.
maybe we can tell when it gets big enough to bloom.
well guys i wasn,t going to say any thing but i think i need to.for those of you who have back problems.
i had a chest xray on monday,(getting ready for surgery on thurs.june 30th)having my gall bladder out..
well on the xray it shows that i have a compression fracture in my spine.which will be addressed when i feel better after this surgery. lord if it isn't one thing its another.
hugs to all
retta
Bless you Retta. We will be praying for you....
Retta
I hope your surgery goes well, back problems are awful, my L-1, S-5 is buldged, so I really have to watch how I lift things, the Chiropracter really helps with that, I will make sure you have cuttings soon
Hugs
Elizabeth
I think you mean L5 S1. I have 2 rods and 6 screws in my back fusing L4-L5-S1 all together. I always have to be careful of things I do, no lifting, etc. (But it is A LOT better than it was BEFORE the surgery!!! ) Even have to have my DH saddle my horse for me because I can't lift that much weight over my shoulders. UGH. I really hate that. I use to be soooooo independent. Have to have him move my gardening stuff for me, potting mix, etc. He's so good about it, and will bawl me out if I do it myself. lol
HOT HOT HOT here today. Going to be this way the next week. 99-103* YIKES!
104 today, good grief! Retta, good luck sweetie. Charleen wow! looking good there!
I am supposed to ave that surgery, Crit, ugh.. I am waiting until I have my sister taken care of.
Her skirts have dropped this morning.......You all be careful with all those back injuries....
YIKES Debra! That's HOT. Gotta love the mid-west!
Yes, back injuries are terrible. Mine wouldn't of been as bad if work comp would of fixed it when it happended, instead of waiting 4 years. Now I will always have pain, and pain pills.
104 again today, kaitlyn has two about to open, Maya had a worm, finally found it,,, *sigh* it ate her bud right out
My Maya is alive all the leaves gone except for a couple small ones near the bottom.Think I may have to put her in shade. Serendipity is showing a little color....
Came home to brugs wilted in the sun again. The ones I have setting around the corner water fountain are ok, but the ones setting out have leaves that look like cooked spinach, even though the bottoms are in the shade as the sun moves after lunch, then the tops are in the shade too . UGH! Going to have to bring them all up under the awning I guess. One of them was the only one I had with a true Y. The next week is triple digets up to 106*. Even the stuff I put water crystals in with are having a hard time, and the shade garden.
I did water them down good. I hadn't left water in the saucers as I thought they didn't like that, but I may be wrong. Sheesh, I'd be wilted down like that too if I was out in this sun all day. I'm even debating going up the my brothers place on the private lake for the 4th on the 3rd. It is just so darn miserable!
Don't feel bad I have a Maya that I always have trouble with. I don't think they like me. I am getting ready to bring her to the shade. They tell me you can overwater them too, but I don't think I have experienced that yet with our dry weather. go have fun!!! Water them when you get back. Unless you have a plant sitter. Enjoy your brother while you got him. I sure do miss mine.
Hugs girl.....
I have 3 brothers and 1 sister, but only 2 of the brothers live in my home town, where the lake is. DH said he really did not want to go up and set outside all day, as he is out in this heat everyday at work. If I get too hot, it turns into a migrane. UGH! DH is a ASE Certified Mechanic at a Chevy dealership here in SS, and those buildings aren't air conditioned. There are no doors or windows on the back side to even get a breeze through. He is just exhausted when he gets home at night. I checked the humidity in the house a minute ago, and even with the AC running, the humidity in here is 55%. I took the meter outside and before I even got it set down it was up to 60%. I'll go look at it in a minute to see what it says. I know you can just set in a chair on the deck and have sweat rolling off of you. YIKES! It's just HOT ^_^
I bet it's hot. we got it hot here today too. don't know if it's that bad or not. I think I just don't want to know.
do what makes you feel comfortable and hubby too. Heat makes us weaker too. No wonder the migrains.....
102* here now. I have been working in the gardens getting 50% off and better sales that I just couldn't pass up! Now trying to get them all planted. If things grow and bloom like they should, the big flowerbed in the front should be a wonderful array of color and shape. They are all perinnials, so if they don't do this year, hopefully next. I don't want to have to be planting anymore. It is such terrible soil! I amend the holes where I plant things and add fertilizer and water beads. By the time they get down to the yucky clay, they should be big and strong enough to put their roots wherever they want to! ^_^ I get in the pool to cool off, then work in my wet clothes. Feels soooooo good. There is a slight breeze and the humidity isn't as bad today, only 45%. Every now and then I come in the house and relax in the recliner (I LOVE my laptop!!!!! :-) ) with an ice pack on any place on my back that might be sore. I'd put one of my pain patches on, but then I couldn't get in the pool, so I make do.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I'm looking forward to 4 days off. I took Tuesday off to make it so. Asked for Wednesday also, but was denied. No good reason, hate that, but can't do anything about it. Since we are closing, I'm trying to keep my leave hours down. We don't get paid for sick leave when we close, but do for annual leave. With my dr. appts and stuff, don't have to worry about building too much sick leave.
OK, I've rambled long enough. Have a fabulous holiday weekend and BE SAFE.
Patti

Take care retta. We love you. Prayers sent up for release of pain.
If I leave my Brugs in in pots, what size do they need??
My brugs and all the plants, lillies, vines, everything is wilted during the hottest part of the day. I know they have water, and I was told the plants fold down to protect themselves. Sometimes we rush out to water thinking that will help them, but they do perk up when the sun does finally quit beating on them.. it has been triple digits here for so long, and don't think it is going to change.
Kaitlyn still has her blooms, Maya still has her leaves, she lost her second set of buds. Can
t move them too much more, so what makes it makes it and what doesn't doesn't at ths point. the big brugs are in five gallon containers except for the trees, they are in really big planters. I moved all the brugs that were in small pots and just gettting going to under the pear tree in the ground. I picked off the big leaves to give them time to get settled.
That's a beautiful color Debra. The Kaitlyn you sent me didn't make it. I have saved tags from several that didn't make it, so maybe this fall I can get another start from them. I'm glad to know that about them 'folding their leaves down'. I have 3 or 4 that do that daily. They had water so it wasn't that, so I moved them into the shade and like you said they perked back up. I moved them all from out in the sun to along the privacy fence. They still get some sun, but not all day and in the hot afternoon sun. Temps here to be 102* today and tomorrow, then 97 and 95 the 2 days after that. I took today off work, so am going to work on the yard again. DH and I worked the last 3 days and still not finished. lol He was doing his thing mowing, trimming, weedeating, hauling off branches and leaves, etc., while I worked on the beds and flowers. Don't think I'll finish today but should get a good start on it! Having company next weekend, so at least need to get the pool area finished up.
hello everyone, wow i left you all a message on the 3rd and don't even remember doing that,it just seems like i woke up from a long nap.and just think i have another one to face.thanks to dear scott the brugs are doing ok.he really has kept thinggs watered.well i hope you all are doing ok in this heat, its really awful for you and debra to have the heat crit, and we have all this water, sure hope things straighten up pretty soon.
