congrats, Sherri, I am proud and happy for you!
Brugs almost all planted outside
Debra,
You have been such an encourager to me. You are a dear friend and always remembered in my prayers.
Sheri
Well my computer bit the dust and was in the shop for 5 days, durn Vireses.now I am ready to start some brugs for the winter, I just purchased some cuttings from JT (Country Gardens)
Doris, I am sending you the Stardancer x Autumn Treasure root ball. Can't send all I want to send to you( Box would be too heavy) , but this one is already to go.
Sorry about your 'puter. You would think people would have a better use of their time than to create virus'.
Sherri, thank you, and I hope to see more blooms from your beautiful brugs. ;D
today that bloom is a bit bigger with two more opening! I'm wondering if she is Maya,...she has a light pink skirt, haven't smelled any fragrance yet though. I am just so excited, and will get a picture on soon. I just need to locate my camera cable
Sheri
Maya is a beautiful brug with beautiful varigated leaves. I can't wait to see yours! My Maya is just now budding, again.
I have a terrible time keeping a Maya, don't think she likes our heat. Sometimes I don't either.☺
mine must not be a Maya- leaves are plain green
Wow Debra, look at all those Y's she must have beautiful flushes. I deffinately do not have a Maya as all of mine have solid leaves.
Happy gardening,
Sheri
Don't worry about it being yellow, that is a good yellow. Then it matures and you got color.
Very nice bloom...
^_^ I'm one excited Brug momma!!
You Know What? I have never ever seen a double bloom come from any of my brugs. Congrats, Sheri, so excited for you!
Debra I am looking forward to getting the Brug from you. have you sent it yet, let me know what I owe you.
Doris, it is all wrapped up and I am pulling a couple more out this weekend, then will mail out on Sunday night.. Be Ready!
OH WOW, it is bad luck to say thank you for live plants so I will say I certainly appreciate it more than you know.
Our temps are supposed to drop to the upper 50's this weekend...EEK....just when my beautiful blooms are opening. The 2nd flower turned from yellow to pink overnight or a new 'skirt & petticoat' this morning! There are still a couple yet to open.
So, how low can they go? (temp wise)
Sheri
You don't want them to freeze dear girl....
it is getting dfown to the high 40's here tonight, but Brugs and everything else is gonna have to tuff it out, not freezing and will be back up in the 80's in a couple days. BRRR!!
Brugs love the cool air..
They will be OK in the 40s for a couple of nights
Only in the 60's today. Going to be in the mid 80's and down to the mid 60's for the next week. Getting a dab of rain today, only .10 of an inch so far, but chances of rain for a few days with the % chances dropping daily.
same here patti, well I don't think it quite got to 60 yet here. I am FREEZING. Brugs are HAPPY. ugh.
I thought it was just me. Have on slacks and longsleeve shirt. I got cold. fixed Chili for supper..
mmmm Chili, now theres a great idea.. I keep going outside to spray for white flys, or get some seeds, broke off part of Frosty Pink while deleafing the older leaves, he has about 12 branches, so no loss there.. get cold, come back inside.. I guess it rained sometime, I found rain water in the tubs on the north side of the house, been jugging it up so I can have it to mist with downstairs. Brought in Orange Crush, it was being ate up anyway, was just a cutting from a co-op, nowit is a nice sized standard, broke off an arm that was going sideways to root it with it's momma.. back inside, still cold..
Orange Crush, is it really Orange???
We got the wind blowing a little too and that makes it cooler.
I know I'm an old woman. ♥☺
dunno, Char, guess we will find out this winter when it blooms..
Hello, I'm a novice gardener and love brugs also. I've been following the forum for advice as I am a newbie :). I noticed a picture of a Maya and wanted someone to ID this one for me. When I purchased her from a vendor at the flea market she had double blooms earlier this year. I repotted and she again grew pods but lost them in one of our storms. So now...I'm thrilled to see the pods and flowers! I gather such good advice here! Thanks!
Beautiful Char!!!!!!!!
We too got a good much needed rain last night! So happy. I went and got some good composted horse hockey out of the barn and put it on my flowerbeds and where I am going to start a new one. This rain will pack it down good so it doesn't just blow away.
Oh Char, that is such a beautiful pink!! She sure is putting on quite a show!
She sure is a shameless girl. But such a lovely one. Since we got our rain and it has cooled I have several buds, so I hope to see color before they freeze.
Thank you all.
Wow, I am so excited. I am doing the bring in at night and out in the morning thing so I can hopefully enjoy a fer more blooms . This morning I just happened to be studying the newest (3-4d) bloom and realized it has three skirts. I am in heaven i think and am searching for a flash card to show her to you. This is one that I received either winter of '09 or Spring of '10 , it never bloomed though till this year. It took me a while to realize just how much feeding these beauties really need to bloom.
Sheri
You will have one.
After mine stop blooming and begin to "sleep" for the winter,How & where to I take cuttings for friends. It had over a 4 ft main veggie stalk and then splits into about 6 or 7 flowering stalks, like a canopy.. I am thinking that I should not cut below those Y's, unless I want to wait a long time again for flowers. However it would be OK with me is there wasn't such a long bare stalk. The main stalk has many 1-6" side shoots, but they look vegetative.
Any advice on slicing and (not) dicing will be most appreciated
Sheri
I looked at BGI data base and found I do have three double triples, but they have not grown to bloom yet. Guess I will hopefully see some next summer.
Sherri, there is a thread on the brug forum for doing your "trim" on your brugs. Some I cut off and store or send off the root balls,
( if they did not bloom) then I take the top part and shape it up, not letting anything grow in the trunk. I keep the standard going until it roots, and then I grow it too, knowing I will see a bloom from it. if you leave it in the pot, trim as much as you can using a pull down and then pull up tug/snap ( support rest of plant to prevent tip snapping.) I try not to cut them since someone told me that they snap off . If I have seen it bloom and didn't LOVE it (like I do my Maya and Betty Marshall and Frosty Pink and Isabella.. ) well, I am keeping one pink single suavleon type, since I have so many. I perfer to have one favorite over three duplicates that look the same to me.. So I usually send those off to new brug lovers. For example, Cherub, Frosty pink, and Isabella all look the same to me. I am keeping Isabella. Looked to me like there were a lot of named brugs that share the same single pink nodding bloom. My favorite color is white in a brug, and dark pink to amost red , Jean Paskos beautiful yellow is similar to Charles Grimaldi, so I gave jean Pasko away. B suave white and pink looked like Cherub, Frosty Pink, only I have one in white and one in pink, and since I don't "cross" them, I won't want to keep the pink.
My covering them the other night didn't work. I now have many sadly wilted Brugs. Am hoping that quickly retrieved top (above Y) cuttings in H2O2 water may salvage some. The remaining stumps will hopefully sleep over Winter in the basement and not be a complete loss. I did save the big dbl/ ?triple one though.
Winter weather is just leaping all over us without any Fall to adjust!
