Best/Worse/What did I learn today-visit with friends chat
But, they were taking out some primitive rough saw wood frog designs, not all were out, there were a few still in the box that I want to go see and buy, I know, don't need it but it would be a fun project for the girls to come one Saturday and make them..grandsons could make on for the mom for Mothers' Day as well..the 2 I love are not in this photo..will have to take another...
Great pics Betty. I really like the red clock in the first set of pics.
And I love the turtles in with the frogs!!! That was so refreshing! Thank you....
Betty, love the photo's. Those frogs are so cute, how big are they?
OOHHHHH Betty I didn't catch the bit about him having cancer. Yeah that would make me just slightly mad! LOL
Love those pics!! Our garden centers have nothing but bare root roses right now.
I have some news, sending y'all a dmail cause I can't post it on a public thread.
Bet they were between 2' and 3' - quite large LindaKay!
Stopped on my way home to wash the 2 rag quilts and it was quite the experience, bit my upper and lower lip real hard to keep my mouth shut...believe me, sure was a hard thing to do..
There were 2 women doing laundry, had 4 of the $6.00 machines and 6 of the regular load machnes going and just as I arrived they were taking a few loads out of the wash and let me tell you they had filled those washers to the brim...
The woman who may have been a little younger than I was just a cursing, infact she apologized to me for her language and told me she has been staying at her daughters because she's having chemo and not that well....
Here's where it gets interesting, she's cursing her granchildren (didn't say how old but by the looks of the size of the clothing they would be teens) and thanking this friend a few years younger I'm sure than she, calls her by a nickname that isn't flattering but anyway here this lady with cancer who cannot even lift these laundry baskets is passing them under the table over to her friend to lift into the dryer all while complaing that her daughter hasn't done laundry in 2 months, kids are out of clothes, that the kids leave ALL this clothes dragging on the floor for someone to pick up and finally she (lady with cancer) decides to take all these baskets to the laundromat to do the laundry..half way through she grabs a chair and says she's feeling faint....
You would have been proud of me, kept my yak shut but boy oh boy I soooo wanted to ask her what is wrong with her head, leave these teens wear dirty clothes, let them wear something that has been on the floor for weeks on end..
She goes on to say that her daughter said that the woman (who has cancer) is always praising her friend and why not a few kind words for her and her kids??? why you ask..I could tell you but I wouldn't be nice...
She went on to tell her friend that she's asked those teens who sit all day and play to help her load the van and not one moved...at this point I could feel my blood boil....
Was going to dry the blankets but thought if I listened much longer I wouldn't keep quiet so took the blankets home to wash...lol
Well hurry up Crissy and d-mail me, going to sit here until I can read your news...hurry/hurry!
Hello To All;
Dianne... I am so glad that you were able to come back on and share with us... Let us share your burden... You know my thoughts and prayers are with you... I'm hoping they come up with a wonderful solution for you.... please keep us posted...
Shirley... same with you and Tubby....
Debbie - do you think for the garbage can potatoes they laid them on their side? or just straight up... That would be more room... right?
Betty - you "hit home" with your laundry episode... DH out of town... working 24/7...lately... doesn't keep up with the house OR his girls... I'm feeling really "USED" lately... he doesn't make much money... but is gone ALL the time... and while my DS is pretty good about picking up after himself.... the girls just leave cups laying out... dishes in sink.... trash on the floor... it's just WAY more than my OCD personality can handle. I do more housework than anyone in this house and I PAY more bills too.. Why is it I feel I am always the one who "HANDLES EVERYTHING" ????
I no longer do their laundry. But I'm getting to where "IF DH really loved me... he would see to it that they picked up after themselves !".....
So I'm barely talking to him now... I know... Childish.... But I'm just JUST LIVID !
Betty - I'm stinkin mad about the hockey player too... now... like "HIS" liver was worth that much when he squandered it...
CRISSY _ ((HUGS)) on your news.... ONE WORD>.. KARMA !!!
Well our East Baton Rouge Parish Schools are closed tomorrow. I have to work but have "permission" to come in late...
Hugs to all,
Mary
http://www.ehow.com/how_2222722_grow-potatoes-garbage-can.html
Check this site out for garbage can potatoes!
Linda Kay, thank you for finding that site for Mary! YES, keep the can rightside up....after you drill the holes in the bottom for drainage. They need the depth.
Mary, your house sounds VERY much like mine. I have learned to walk away. AND....you know what, one of my sons friends commented that "your shirt smells" and someone (me) might have remarked "well, if he washed it in between wearing...it might not happen". BUT it is now his business. EVERY Sunday, he takes his own clothes down and washes them.
My kids do NOT know how to bend at the waste. IF they drop something or someone did....they will NOT bend for anything and pick up or put something away. And DH will NOT pick up anything that he did not put there or drop. Doesn't matter if something is laying beside the garbage can and he is taking it out....will NOT bend and pick it up....he didn't do it.
I have the foot issue going on, I emptied two small waste baskets in the living room....tied up the bag and sat it by the back door. I was NOT going down 5 steps of icy/snow steps into the yard around house to put in trash. Would DH take the bag out.....NOPE! it is STILL sitting there two days later. Sorry....you hit my button with that one!
Anyway Mary, with the kids.....I figure....thats what they make doors for. One day a friend will come over, make fun of them for their crappy rooms or smelly clothes...and they might do something about it. Just let it go sweety!! They are NOT 10 years old.
Ok, my rant is over...see what you started Betty!
I have another rant but I just might save it for tomorrow. lol
Dianne, how did the dentist go today. You know Miss Izzy and I are right there beside you....all the time, all the way. I might have to move in the garage with the Stang and hide out....but thats OK, I can help Warren with you.....long as he don't shoot me!
I know I need to go to bed...but I am just so hyped up.
Debbie
Betty more power to you I would more than likely have to say something to that poor lady. But there is a pattern here and it is that we women go around and try to fix things.
When really that poor women should have said to the kids do laundry and clean the house.
Kids today have it to easy.....computers, video games. cell phones and color tv.
When I was groing up we had chores and only tv was on Sunday to watch a Disney movie and that was when Disney was regular tv.
Ok how old am I??????
Kids need chores.
My middle one will do a chore and ask what am I getting paid? You just had dinner and you have a warm place to sleep! That is your pay.
Ok all done.
Goodmorning to all coffee is on.
Have a great day
Morning all,
Big armwraps for you Mary, hard carrying most of the load at work and at home and not be appreciated..don't think we want to be thanked 50 times a day but SOMEONE saying, " here, let me help" or at least make an effort to clean their room! If you are the one driving them to and from something they really want to go to, I'd simply tell them that because there are chores not done you just HAVE to catch them up..so that a few times and just maybe they will start to help...as for hubby, well that's a hard one, him not being home most of the time and men not always seeing things for what they are he might not realize that you are at the point of breaking!!! He'd better wake up..
Debbie same for you, you always going 24/7 running kids around, doing things for them rarely taking your needs into consideration....drats that's not healthy!!!!
Where does it stop? Guess seeing a lady, deathly ill, tugging all those bins, weak as can be and doing their month or two laundry..well that beats everything...her saying that she just couldn't take one more day of filth broke me heart ...moral of this story, they didn't learn a thing!
The days that it becomes so overwhelming that she thinks of doing same, she should pack up a night bag and go to a hotel..I'm sure it cost her every bit as much doing laundry as it would have getting a room, put feet up and enjoy a day of relaxation.
There I go again, blood still boiling not only for her but for both you and Debbie..maybe it takes living in a pig sty for awhile and let them be embarassed as Debbie says for them to learn a lesson...
Laura, sometimes we do it to ourselves, the children do well and we want to say thank you so a bit of change in their hand for a treat, nothing wrong with that we say, but after a few times they come to expect it..maybe after they do something special we should sit down with them and spend a 1/2 hr. reading or cuddling and remind them that when we work as a team, we get to enjoy time together .
Have a cousin that when her 3 girls were young, she had a special cupboard all filled with treats..as they helped and did chores they gained a point for each activity as specified and at the end of the week they got to get something from the cupboard that had same point value..at the time I thought it was odd but have to tell you thos little ones were up gathering points from morning till night...
Got to get that coffee, sit and unwind...off at 3pm so that's a plus
Cold out but not snowing so there's another plus..gee let's home the whole day goes along as well!
Big armwraps for you all
I had one son like that - wouldn't pick up anything. So I did pick up and everything went to the dump. He was warned before I did it and he didn't want to hear it. When his favoriete shirt went and his good sneakers went too, he started taking care of things he cared about but still left his crap around. So the rules changed. If I picked up something off the floor or from where it didn't belong, I then went to his room and picked one item I didn't like (but he did) and that item went out too. It took about three weeks for him to really get it. But he lost a lot of his good "stuff" and then had to earn the money to replace it himself. I was accused of being a "tough love" Mom and I wore the title with pride. It made for a much happier household and he has thanked me since then for making him a responsible person. They need to learn that what they have besides shelter, clothes and food is a blessing given by parents who love them. It is NOT A RIGHT. I firmly believe respect begins in the cradle - and always goes both ways.
I'm done with my rant too.....
Morning eveyone! Coffee is on for this cold, 22 degree morning.
Barb, I agree, you have to have tough love. I did that with my boys when they got to that stage. I told them many time, if I had to pick it up, it was going to the garbage, and it did! When they realised I meant business, they woke up really fast!
Debbie what kind of stang is in your garage? I have a dark purple, 2007 I bought 2 years ago with only 10,000 miles on it! It is a Regency conversion mustang, and I love it!
Linda, not my garage....in Diannes. She is the speed demon (right along side Crissy) lol
I am having some tea this morning.
We need prayers today. My Sis in law, who is only 34...is having an emergency D&C this morning. When she was 20, she was diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer. She had a cervical ablasion at that time...and she has been having some trouble the last couple weeks. She has two little boys...please keep her in your prayers.
Betty....you in work today, or home? I hopeyour ride in is uneventful if you go. And YES, that poor "grandma" being treated that way in the first place, and sick on top of it!! I think her daughter is more at fault than the kids.
Needing tea, having issues
Debbie
Left home and it was dull but no snow, didn't get beyond 5 miles and snowing like crazy, arrived in Barrie and clear so must have been a streamer left from the storm..
You know girls (Debbie/Mary) the funny thing is when some of these kids get out on their own they go completely opposite..you couldn't walk in his room for clothes, now he's a fanatic, Melanie can't have anything dragging on the cupboards, shoes are almost size and color co-ordinated....but, when he comes to the house and is in a hurry he forgets to take his shoes off so I remind him next visit I'll do the same!
Sounds Debbie like you need prayers...catch them, they are on their way..
Barb, tough love for our children and grandchildren is very hard to give but end result so worthwhile...and yes, taking things that are of importance to them helps as long as when the going gets good we don't go and replace them..lol
Not sure what is happening, was in the little quilt shop in Craighurst last Friday, been trying to reach them and it says telephone is disconnected..hmmm - maybe they are getting new telephone number so I'll drop in this afternoon and see if I can pick up my kit and get instructions this aft. as I pass by the shop and have 1 1/2 hrs. to spare..would save me driving back on the weekend..
Because Cathy goes ice fishing and is always walking the neighborhood to help people out I've decided to make her a neck warmer..nothing to do this morning so brought wool in to do 12 rows of knit1/purl1 so that it will be simpler put on the knitting machine..good thing about it is I get rid of another 3 balls of wool.
Spoke with my brother (who was to do the office) and he's still in bed, goes to the doctor on Monday..has breathing problems much the same as my dad which were brought on by working with chemicals in the plating industry..apologized for not coming but hey, my job can wait. Did bring the rag quilt to give to his step-daughter so I'll drop in on my way home...nice thing about getting off at 3:00 is you get to do your running around and still be home the usual time you get home Monday thru Thursday..
Might even go to Home Depot..need something for my floors...do any of you have the click flooring in your home??? I wash the floors almost every morning and not pleased with the streaks, have even tried putting vinegar in the water...if you do please let me know what you use? Know they have a spray you can use but to me that just leave dirt over dirt...
Good morning Betty and Everyone.
Oh My Goodness, Dianne, sweet lady. I sure have you in my prayers as well.
Tubby and Shirley in my prayers too...
Well, I actually keep all of you in my daily prayers and will continue each day.
Mary and Debbie and anyone with Teens/Tweens and young adults...Big giant Armwraps for patients!!
Hands on the hips over here, Chores?? Yeah that holds real well, not!
This is part of the reason i have not been posting. I am such a big bummer to be around.
Why, because I have once again fallen into maid service, taxi driver and secretary!!!
I was trying really hard not to complain, because it seems that it is the only real problem I have.
I work around this house, keeping laundry going, having dinner ready, being available to pick kids up, etc, etc...
If see my kids, it's hey you got 10 bucks, or 5, UH Nooo. Then that 10 or 5 is givin to the friends for gas!! To drive around "chillin"
OMG, any laundry of theirs that I do, is only if it get deposited in my laundry pile any more...I do not enter there rooms for fear I might fall.
DD#2 does her own, when she runs out of stuff. DD# 1 same thing, then they only do whats needed for now. ACKKK, Jake, well he does once a week load a bucket and I make him lug his single bucket of two weeks of clothes down stairs...Ohhhh, then We have my dear loveable DH, his idea of making them work, bribery, they get paid to do chores because they need money for running around.
So when that is the case, I try not to do my regular routine, why should they get an allowance for something I have already cleaned??
And he is just as bad...leaving his stuff around. These days i am only cleaning after he and I...Got to say though at Least Anthony and Julia will help keep the place fairly picked up...My house is in operation like 24/7 with everyone's different scedules, it is just insane!!
I have been venturing from the house helping my Cousin with his paper work. The tiny check I get, I have been handing over to help out.
And any work I am doing for DH is pretty much a free service... get so frustrated and angry...He wants to know how come i have nothing to say...Any computer work I have been doing is searching for a job, sending resumes and Well, what a big drag it is, trying to keep the faith, and just hoping something comes along...I am suppose to be celebrating my birthday this month, and that doesn't happen any more, it will be only the one day, just another disappointment....Well, maybe not that bad, it is Bahamama Weekend and my brother is coming...So, it's going to be another week of fighting to keep the p-lace clean up, ROFLOL a vicious circle!!
Well, now that I am feeling sorry for myself, I can go on and on but guess what, this is nothing compared to what some of you are facing.
So some one Shut me up!!
I am sorry to be such a downer, but Do know, that I am here lurking and keeping you all in prayer.
That's been my worse...Can't wait to get out side!
Best, We are all pretty healthy, for which I must be thankful.
Learned, hmmm, I turning into a pretty good cook, ackk and getting fat from it!
AND, Keeping away from all ofyou my friends, I am just hurting myself!
So, Picking myself up and return to MY normal schedule...
Well, today I have to go run alot of errands and maybe go to cuz's to finish up...
I hope that you all have a great day...
Ohhh and Crissy, waiting on pins and needles
Thunder, Just wanted to say, I wonderful your Teddy bear from DS is. Your story brought tears.
Shirley, so glad your DGD is there with you, I hope the visit is doing all of you well.
Big ARMWRAPS to everyone.
Thanks for listening...
You know sometimes we think we are alone in the world, no one to turn to and don't want to bother anyone with our woe's..some are small but major to us, some are overwhelming, some need special prayers and love to get through each day..but we are not alone, all of us here are loving, caring individuals, always here to lift the other...
Judy, NEVER/NEVER stay away because you are on a downer..just not right..can't you feel the armwraps coming your way that you so often send to others..today it might be you needing special care, tomorrow me and it goes on and on.. You are truly special as are all of you..
Think we've heard last night and today that we are mom's, that we want the best for all and we put ourselves on the back burner...I say today, DO SOMETHING SPECIAL for YOU...regardless how small or how big..YOU are special and deserve it...let the family fend for themselves for once...if you were gone they'd have to wouldn't they?
Judy, know you enjoy the Bahama party..have fun, take lots of photo's and remember if you don't pick yourself up I know where you live, been there several times and I'll be on my way..of course it will have to be after putting Debbie on notice as well...as for the rest of you...know I'm always as far as a phone and keyboard...
Hi everybody. Sure felt and needed your arm wraps and warm wishes yesterday. Root canal was brutal - I was in the chair over 3 hours and this is the second go around. I was beginning to think Doc (my dentist) was doing a colonoscopy and started from the wrong end.Have lots of heavy duty pain meds on hand for my headaches so will stay on top of the pain. I hate taking these meds as they make me sleepy and lethargic. DH says that is better than me charging through the house like a whirlwind tackling any chore that lands in my sight. That's my way of coping when I am hurt or upset - clean, clean, clean.
Still pretty cold here and lots more snow coming. So Debbie if you and Izzy don't mind that you hightail it over here right now. You don't even have to stay with the Tang!lol Stormy and Quill would be estatic to have our Miss Izzy and Auntie Debbie visit. We could walk the lake Debbie - it is all frozen now.
Barb your support over these long months has been appreciated far more than you know - sometimes when I read your post on the PF I would talk back to it like you were right here inthe room with me. Crazy eh? But I sure felt better for it!
(((((Mary))))) hang in there girl! You need some ME time pronto.
Going to have a wee lay down and see if that makes my face ache less. I have a horrible case of TMJ caused by an accident I was in several years ago so the jaw really gets tender when I visit the dentist.
Stay warm and safe everybody. ~~~~~~~~~ to you all. How is Tubby today?
Dianne
Well GOOD MORNING to all of you!!!! And let's all try to do what Betty said. I'm going right now to make a cup of tea and just chill. That is after Santa gets off the roof.
All I can hear is the pitty patter of footsteps and the bang as the snow hits the ground. We had over two feet up there and with more coming tomorrow it had to GO. I'm a bit upset as the lilacs, azalela, quince and burning bushes are all taking a beating. They are all old stock but I really hate to see them ruined. Who knows what mother nature will do this spring? I now have about ten feet of snow all around the house!!!! I'm thinking I should have left and not been here when we had this done!!!! Off tomake my tea!!!!
Dianne, we've got to get Debbie a passport so I can pick her up and make a trip to your neck of the woods and walk that lake, might have to pull her on a sleigh but I'm up to it!
Hope the nap and meds make the rest of the day more bearable!
Barb, does your house have a flat roof or semi angled??? Keep thinking I've heard one should not shovel a roof, does more damage than not..those shrubs/trees will come to life this spring and you'll wonder why you were worried about them...a touch of warm air, soft rain and sunshine will do the trick.
Betty there was so much snow up there that had it rained at all the weight of it would have collapsed the roof. There have been so many roofs that have caved in here in New England. All we have had for snow this year is the light fluffy kind and now even that is too heavy. As the sun hits it, it turns to water which is HEAVY. That's what the problem is so having the roof shoveled is a necessary thing.
The snow out side my window here by the computer is almost half way up!!! I'm going to take some pictures when I can get out......
OMG..I should know, back about 4 years ago I had the back deck covered, wanted to see light of sun so what I did was have them put glass type roof on, come spring with the ice build up, same as what you say, snow/melt/ice/snow/melt/ice I came home to a collapsed roof, it hit the kitchen door, smashed, melted under the flooring, destroyed all that was on the deck..lesson learned so should go out tomorrow morning and check back shed and take what snow is there off...
Is Norm doing the work all by himself or have you employed someone?? Could be dangerous
Look forward to seeing photo's
I just heard from Rob (BIL). MaryJane is out of surgery, but her blood work is not good. Her white cell count went from 3.7 on Tuesday down to 2.8 today. THis could mean anything from an infection/virus...to the cancer coming back...which is what they think. They have to make an appointment with a hematologist as something is definately not right.
Also waiting for her biopsies from today to come back.
Not good news at all Debbie, bet your heart is just breaking! Has she been feeling ill for some time? Will they keep her in the hospital to deal with her health issues?
LindaKay it is cold in your neck of the woods...love the color of your mustang, what year is it?
Only 1/2 hr. lunch on Fridays because of going home 2 hrs. earlier, went to the Liquidation Center where I bought all those Ott lights before Christmas..reg. $100. on for $17.95 and now they have Fiskars Stamp Factory on sale, have no idea what they are regularly, nor do I know what to do with it anyway or if I need it..lol..but bought it anyway, girls are always making cards, this will just be added to the other card equipment and supply I've got stored away..
Betty, she is on her way home right now. SHe has to little boys, and refused to stay inpatient while they were finding out what is going on.
I will be honest, I am not very close with Mary...but Rob is my sweety. I think it is because she is so pretty and resembles a barbie doll...but she sure gives the name to blonde ditzy. BUT she is a very nice person. Rob is my sweety, he has been since he was little, only 10 when Paul and I started dating. I am the one he comes to when he needs answers for something rattling around in his head. AND he is the one who has worked with Shane on playing guitar and helped him so much. Rob is the youngest of the 7 kids (DHs siblings).
The ENTIRE world comes to you Debbie when there is a problem so why would Rob be any different..Roger came from a family of 11, 8 boys and there was 1 who was my favorite, much the same way as Rob is to you...let's hope she has a virus and the the 'c' word.
Have you been able to repair your and Paul's vehicle?
It was 22 this monring, and now only 32.
Debbie, sending lots of prayers her way! Lets all pray the results come out to be a good report!
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Fiskars+Stamp+Factory&rls=com.microsoft:*&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&um=1&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&cid=7491615006969202898&ei=7FBMTZvsM8GclgeR7-Qw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CFoQ8wIwAA#
Betty, is this the fiskars stamp factory your talking about? it runs from about $27.00 to $40.00 here.
I'm so grateful that Norm only had to run the snowblower and did NO shoveling. We were tod=ld there was at least 3 to 3 1/2 feet of snow up there!!! And now we have 4 feet of snow on the lawn!!!!!
Glad to hear Norm wasn't up there, omg that was a lot of snow, bet both of you are relieved that roof is now clear, can you imagine the weight..wow no snow and look at the view, that young man is a looker..lol..kidding of course..never too old to look.
Lindakay they had it for $11.98 then down to $6.98 so even if it sits in the cupboard with the rest of the scrapbooking things it's not a big loss..maybe the kids would like to use it.
No, still down to one car...unless we hit the lotto for enough to buy a tranny. We are very "gun shy" to get one at the junk yard...do all the work, put it in, and fear it won't work. They do have a warranty for it on there...but so much work for that chance.
My nerves are jumping...so I am cooking. DH is going out to dinner with his parents parents for their 50th anniversary. His sister is coming from Ohio for the weekend also, so the siblings getting together. YES, I was invited...but elected not to go. I choose my battles....and played the broken foot issue going to down town buffalo is NOT good. At least he will be there with them, and cut back on the cost for only one meal. Tomorrow I will go over, visit with the family in casual setting.
Oh LK you made me laugh!!! Sure wish that was all the frost we had on a vehicle today. Sorry - just envious!! I always told my mam she had her kids in the wrong climate. So LK I am assuming you have antifreeze in the Tang, but is that something you would normally have to be concerned about?A friend in Phoenix told me she had her long underwear on yesterday and this morning - first time in 18 years and hopes it is at least another 18 before she does so again.
Sending positive thoughts to your DSIL Debbie. Very upsetting time for the whole family. Good call on staying home tonight!!!
Now Barb you have me wondering about the roof, will have to check the cottages too so we can let their owners know if they need to hire someone. Two of the cottages are owned by families in NY State - wouldn't be surprized to see 1 of the families here 'just' to check - they love winter camping and once that woodstove gets going inside the cabin it is quite toasty. Sure hope they do come up, would love to see them.
Quill says she wants "OUT" so best I do it immediately.
