Best/Worse/What did I learn today-visit with friends chat

Lyndonville, NY

Linda that is wonderful! I hope it works out well for them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Feel as though it should be evening, seems I'm accomplishing much and that I've been up a long/long time..lol

Drats, here the t.v. newscasters are talking with different people re closing of all the schools, parents complaining that it was not necessary, some upset about having to take day off because they had to look after the children etc. etc. - am sure these same parents should a bus have gotten into an accident or something happen to their child would be with same newscasters complainng about school board NOT closing..think it's ridiculous..better safe than sorry!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That's wonderful news Linda.
All it will take Betty is one newscast showing a bus off the road due to conditions and maybe they will cease. It's always the ones who live right next to the school who do the complaining. They would surely shut up if their child lived on a hill with icy conditions!! That makes me see red!
I thought things were winding down here but now it looks like we are getting a very fine ice falling on top of the snow. Almost like a mist but it hurts when it hits your skin. This isn't nice at all.
I took this picture a few minutes ago. Norm had this all cleared last night......

my plowman Barb just did my yard, still snowing out..guess Norm is out often keeping on top of things so it's not as difficult, fine mist though will play havoc with snow removal!

Told Andres once my work shift is done I'll have to get the walkways done, told me to wait until tomorrow because a lot more is on it's way..he's getting used to seeing me in my jammies..lol-3rd time in a few weeks he's plowed and 3 times - jammies! He says he's been plowing since last night..

I'll have to take photo's as well, however, not sure what I'm doing wrong, I download them to computer but when I post internet goes off line..

Not going to play with it for sure, Jeff's off tomorrow to Quebec skiing at Mont Tremblanc, perhaps the next weekend he'll drop in and can check status out..

I'm just soooo loving this, jammies, sewing, painting, cleaning, being creative and being paid for it at same time!

Glenview, IL

Thank you Betty, glad you were able to talk with Bev and Shirley.

Goodness, Watching and hearing Lightening and & thunder last night, was scary!

Heard from Julia and Anthony at 11:00 to say they were safe at Hotel and we were out!

Up early this AM to check on MIL, and my sister Gypsie...She lost power last night. She hasn't answered yet today.

I hope that all of you are safe, sounds like it as I read in between making coffee and Hot Chocolate.

Steve, Jake and Jerry have been out for almost 2 hours, still digging us out.

Debbie, so glad to see your foot is healing!

Linda so happy to see too, the horses have been adopted.

Here Steve Shoveling to get to shed.

Here's a glimps from kitchen window!

Our street plow hasn't been by, but it's going to be quite a while, only the main roads to hospital are cleared.

I am anxious to hear from Julia this morning...Wondering if the hotel will let them stay put till things open up, check out was at 11 am...no word yet...

Oh Debbie good, glad your girls are ok

Betty we don't have any ice, it rained, the wind came up and dried everything out, then it froze. It's bright and sunny and 26*.

YES LK!! Awesome!!!

Sheesh Barb!

Yeah Betty!!!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Dang Judy!!!!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Judy I was worried about you, girl. You guys in Chicago got really blasted. We were on the southern side of the storm and got only about 4" of snow but we did get a lot of ice. the dog looked so funny; she went out and walked on the crust of ice and then fell through into the snow. She loves being out and will stay too long if I don't call her in.

Yesterday afternoon they called and told me my new car was ready for pick-up. We had sleet and were looking at more bad stuff but I drove the 14 miles into Findlay and picked up the car. It is now safe in my garage. The color is Black Amethyst and I love the color! The dark purple reminds me of the color of the Black Knight Butterfly Bush.

We got more snow this morning but now the sun is out and we hope the worst is over. We are looking at sub-zero weather for the next few days but since the storm didn't bother the electric or gas lines we are set. Just stay in and play on the computer and sewing machine.

Lexington Park, MD

Bye the way a bus did go off the road after hitting ice patch with kids on the bus.Up in one of those places that did not cancel school today.
Everyone ok .
Safe to just stay in.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

OOOOO What kind of car did you get????

Yup! Parent's just need to chill out, you can't stop Mother Nature!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think she said it was a Nissan.... maybe a Rogue?

Lexington Park, MD

sunny and 55. calling for more rain tomorrow.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Janice, road trip/road trip...cross that big border and come and visit in April ...your new vehicle sounds like a beauty...love that color! know were Findlay is, got gas there on my way through in January...travelling north now I can visualize where Maggie is, where Joyce is, then on to Janice's and Stacey...makes it nice...

Judy, that is a lot of snow..Steve's a tall man so I can see you got your fill..am sure that the hotel wouldn't make the kids leave and put them in danger but know you'll worry till you have everyone back in the nest.

Laura just goes to show you how easily it could happen..like to shake those parents silly!

I was finishing the last row of the rag quilt and could hear banging outside then it would stop then start up again, Sailor started to bark, went and look and here Cathy and her mom came to visit but Cathy was 1/2 hr. before her mom and had cleaned all the walkways and front deck but it's still snowing so will need to be done again.

Got to tell you, I'll be glad to see the end of those rag quilt blocks..just used 99 for the young girl that I made the quilt for, looked at all the sports leftovers and have enough to make another, after that whatever remains which is very little in the garbage it goes.

If I'm not too tired tonight think I'll go through all of the Christmas material, pack it up in a suitcase ready for the weekend, not sure what other materials/sewing tools I'll need but at least if that's ready it won't take long to pack up the rest.

Victoria Harbour, ON

55..lordy you'll be wearing shorts Laura while I find my eskimo clothing!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I'd drop before calling it a day..not sure what kind of weather they are calling for tomorrow in your area but here, mostly clear!

Managed to finish the 2 rag quilts, will take them to work with me and drop into local laundromat to use their big washers..tempted to use mine but nope remembered that I just got it repaired for exactly the same reason, no more washing rag quilts at home for me.

Hope you've survived the day..good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow!

Hello To All !

Thanks Betty for the tip on potatoes! DH says we don't have enough room for potatoes but I may try anyway... just to "do it"... I have learned to plant basil near tomatoes... same thing... no bugs....

OMG you guys with snow.... Judy - that's incredible.. is that like a one man snow plow ? looks almost like my parents roto-tiller...

Glad all the "Chickens" are in and accounted for. (Kids) I'm the same way... can't rest till they are okay.

We are supposed to get "Cajun Sneaux"... "Wintery mix" and ya'll would laugh at all our cold day closures.. (no snow)...but I suppose we Southerners aren't used to driving on cold icey streets and it is for the best. Don't want accidents.

Most Parishes (Counties to the rest of the USA) are closed for school tomorrow... I'm keeping up to see if ours closes... probably not by now... Too late to get the word out...

Regardless - I will go in to work... I have a client coming to town I need to meet with and a Grand Opening to attend...

so glad to see my "sista's" post... Debbie & Judy....

I'll drop back by in a bit... DH is out of town tonight and has to work Saturday as well. Not happy about that...

Hugs,
Mary

Surprise! We're still alive.
Betty, it was sooooo sweet of you to call the other night. It is always good to hear a friendly voice on the other end. Thank you so much, as you are such a dear lady and friend.
Tubby still doesn't feel the best. We did make it in to dialysis today. We didn't do any chemo this week, it'll have to wait till Monday. I just know that he isn't up to doing it yet. I took one of his drugs away from him. I didn't want the edema that was starting in his feet and hands to get worse. I'll tell the Dr. eventually. Sometimes the side effects aren't worth the pain and extra problems they bring on. I know I probably shouldn't do this on my own, but if I don't Tubby sure doesn't know. He's been so urpy lately and doen't eat hardly a thing, but I think he's just trying to fight off a cold or the flu.
The GD has been a great help this week. Her and I have gotten alot accomplished. I will truly hate to see her leave. I'd love it if she could move here and be by us. I know that she just needs to be needed as much as she does loved. She has a big heart and takes everything to heart, so one has to tread lightly to help her understand.
I will go back to the other thread and see what I've missed out on. I know there's alot, but I'm too tired to do it tonight. I shoveled today before we left and I had a class I needed to take for the hospital while Tubby was at dialysis. I don't know just how much snow we ended up with, but it blew like crazy for two days. It was good to see the sun today. The daughter in Wisconsin said they had 8 - 10 foot drifts on their roads so they couldn't go any place. Her husband was trying to clear some of it so they could both go to work tomorrow. She said it took her husband 4hrs to clean the driveway alone. The road grader hadn't even showed up by thier place yet.
Okay it's time for bed - chat tomorrow with all. Sweet dreams and God Bless to all!
Shirley

Baton Rouge, LA

Wow - Shirley... Hugs to you...

If we Southerners were abducted by aliens and placed in snowy regions... we would surely be lost souls.... no knowledge of shoveling, snow plows, reserving propane... etc... Good to have you all my friends to open my eyes to all this... ((HUGS))

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, check into container potatoes. Our neighbors used to grow them in garbage bins/cans. Used to get quiet a load of them also. I can see if I can find the information if you really are interested in them. Didn't take up much room at all, just two cans full of dirt, layered....and the taters in there.

Shirley so glad to hear from you. PLEASE tell the doctor about the medicaiton. I know what you mean...but if something goes "south" and they don't know he is off the medication, it can cause all kinds of problems. Just tell the Doc straight out....he is having problems with this, so I took it away. It is causing him too "" state your case to him. It is for Tubbys safety.

I am heading to bed finally. Dang cold....and my electric blanket is calling my name. I hear it....debbie..Im waiting........

Good night, sweet dreams
Debbie

Verona, ON

Good very early morning to you all! Your faithful loyal reader and lurker here.!
Well, we have snow up over top of our ying yangs here and still some to come. On Monday I cancelled my dentist apptment for Wed at 8 am and luckily enough was able to exchange times with someone in dreadful pain but couldn't get into see Doc until Thurs at 5 pm. The roads have to be at least passable by then!Need to get this root canal behind me before the next dental surgery on Feb 16 and then after that some more restorative work. Dang that radiation anyway.
Well Betty your intuition was correct and while I have kept up reading I wasn't ready to post yet. Early in January after repeated prodding on my part I received an answer to my email that morning to the Endocrinologist. My MRI was Dec 16 and the hospital failed to pass on the results of the MRI to the specialist. I was very unsettled at the news and it has taken quite awhile for me to get my head around the test results and be cool with it. The MRI showed that 2 5 - 6 hr surgeries and 25 sessions of Radiation did not kill off the tumour on my pit gland. If there is another surgery the neurosurgeon will have to drill in through my forehead. I do NOT want another surgery. So my losing some of my vision and the horrid headaches were telling me something. The pain gets so bad from the headaches they make a migraine a walk in the park - the heavy dose pain meds I was given make me very sleepy and lethargic - I certainly do not like that. My team of specialists including my Oncologist in Toronto and even my dentist will be getting together via conference call in the next week or 2. Know it can't be an extremely critical situation or the Neurosugeon would have had me in hospital already. So Betty thank you for the arm wraps and to you too sister Debbie.
You all have been so busy I just can't comment on everything just know I have read and am sending my good thoughts to you .Every one is so busy with new crafts and I love to read about them.
Yes Barb I do have an interest in SG. For several years I was a professional SG artisan doing both shows and custom work. Not to brag but I have original designs in places all over the world even the Vatican. No longer do any glass not even pick up a tool but I do consult and design large windows and ceilings for people. Miss the buzz of being on the road but DG has certainly helpede fill that void.
Going to try to post more often now, sure don't want to miss out on any of the parties and festivities Mary will be going to.
Happy Chinese New Year!
Laura and Betty I have not fogotten about sending you the Lemon Ginger Oatmeal cake recipe. I turned it into cupcakes and they were fabulous.

Morning all,
Clear day so will head out to work today, sat with coffee in hand and read all your posts...I must tell you I am as overwhelmed and speechless, cannot find the words to tell you all how special you arae to me..it's a difficult time for many, words I could say would not take away your concerns or your pain...I do have a friend though, his name is Lord, I will pass the chit/chat that I normally ramble to HIM and go for the gusto..I NEED a few miracles, he's been kind and gentle with me in times of times when I thought I'd not survive, it's time nods, see's that I'm ok and plays it forward to all of you in need..

Yikes, need a Kleenex, few tears in the eyes, know that I'm including warm strong hugs to help get you through theses times and prayers along with them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is on!
Shirley, so glad to see you posting, but I agree with Debbie, please call the Dr, and tell him, you have removed the med, because of the side affect.
Dianne, sending you lots of gentle ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) and lots of prayers girl! So sorry to hear the surgeries and treatments have not worked. Goodness, I can't imagine the pain from those headaches you get! Take it easy, and keep us posted please?
Looks like everyone is at a standstill in this bad snow storm. Please be careful, if you have to go out in it! We even have snow predicted for tonight. Granted not much, but they think we may get up to an inch or two! That is a lot for us!
Stay warm everyone!

Sending lots of prayers to everyone!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I send to you my love Dianne. I sometimes think that is more needed than hugs. My prayers have been with you for a long time and they shall be with you as well.
How I would love to see some of your work. I try to do stained glass sometimes in my quilting. I haven't done it for a while but may now need to again. I'll check back in later....

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Dianne! Thanks for posting all of that, sending prayers that your root canal and everything else is a success. So sorry the radiation didn't take care of that tumor, hopefully they will come up with a solution when they have that conference call. Good grief.

Shirley glad you posted too!!!! I'm so glad your GD is there with you and I don't want to see her leave either. I think she needs to stay and help you out. Yes you have to tell the dr about taking those meds away, don't blame you for doing it but the doctor cannot do his job properly without knowledge. This could end up being a very nasty situation if something were to happen.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Talk about a sunny day out there, roads are clear, almost wish I could pack up my bags and close my eyes, drop a penny on a map and say 'here I come'..not to be though. Feel like a ride, e-mailed my sister to see if she'd like to take a run to Buffalo on Saturday but no answer..almost think she's at a dog show in Atlanta..could always look for another travelling companion OR just go on my own..not sure what kind of weather they are calling for so would have to check that out...few swaps to mail so it sure would make it easy if I crossed over and mailed them AND a whole lot cheaper....

It is busy here so that's a good thing, morning is almost over...gave a few hints to my boss about being all set up at home for the day he says I can work from there..never makes a comment but this morning he said he'd call me tonight and walk me through the process of adding my Microsoft Outlook office calendar to my home computer, would make life a lot easier for me if on the days I work from home I'd have it...

Dianne, meant to ask, about 2 years ago (could be longer) I started a window hanging..girlfriend designed it..it's a photo looking outside at Georgian Bay, has an inside window ledge with vase of daffodils and a bible..something about the project although I so wanted to do it at the time just didn't appeal to me..Other than the outside clear glass I would say I've about 2 hrs. and the inside oval would be done..question..now that I've left it for to long and have tacked most of the pieces together, would you say I should work and take the off the foil and restart the project which is highly doubtful that I would OR would steelwool do the trick...will have to take photo of it ..sooo close to finishing it and there it sits

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

We're hanging in there! Not too much snow, but lots of ice. Power went out for FIL and MIL...they went to a hotel since he's still recovering from surgery. We're doing okay.

Love you guys!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Joyce, glad to see you post..

Ice can be far more dangerous than snow/blizzard!!!
Are your in-laws close to you?

Thought of you often when they were saying the force of the storm was in your neck of the woods..how's your mom doing!

If our plans of going to Nashville and Memphis come to pass in May, will be dropping in for coffee again..lordy, you'd almost think I was next door neighbor

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Good Morning!
Just a quick note, yes I plan on telling Dr. what I did. I need to talk with him about what is going on and get his input into what has been going on with Tubby. He is more confused today and very antsy. I don't know if he is having some mini strokes, but he knows something is not right. I can see it in his eyes and tell by what he is wanting me to do. The medicine I took away was to help keep his fluid in his body, but it is not always a good thing. The Dr. warned me what to watch for and so we had already talked before. He is not in today, will try and call tomorrow. I just found out we don't qualify for the assistance program and I called that Dr. and left a message with the gal, that we can't afford the $2000 co-pay. There is always something and it about drives you over the edge. I have to go now, chat later. Not a good day.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

The sun is out and it looks wonderful. I feel like Betty, would love to get out but the weather man is telling us that all the roads are still VERY icy and they are having lots of accidents because looks can be deceiving. It is so cold that the salt wont work. We are looking at sub-zero temps. I think I will just stay in where I am. We are supposed to get more snow over the weekend so it may be the first of the week before we get out.

The new car is safely in the garage and is going to stay there for a while. I love it and it does have AWD but I am just not comfortable driving on ice. When I moved here everyone in Michigan said, "Oh, it will be warmer there", but I would rather be driving on snow than ice!

Victoria Harbour, ON

What a worry Shirley, needing medical care and NOT being able to pay the $2,000 month co-pay..what in the world are you suppose to do...makes my tummy churn just thinking about it..

You know when Roger got so ill so quick and they said he'd not live long, we asked if a liver (parts can be used) was found could he have an operation to give him a chance at life..NO because it was cancer they would not even consider it, body might have cancer elsewhere so means it would be wasted BUT at the same time a well known Hockey player, who drank himself almost to death and had a previous transplant and drank/drank/drank well guess his life was more important to society so they gave him one..not much time passed he died but all the same it sure got us angry... now how come I'm gabbing away with my past when it's you I'm concerned about..just brings back memories I guess...let' s hope something can be done for you Shirley..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Janice, takes a bit to adjust to how a new vehicle reacts to ice/snow conditions so you are being very wise to leave your new vehicle in the garage till conditions improve..didn't hear you say 'coming your way Betty' lol

Tell Stacey we're missing her!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Janice what kind of car is it???? Did you end up with a Rogue, you said you were afraid to go look because you thought you might not like it.

AWD does not work on ice, don't try it.

Shirley many many many prayers going up to you and Terry today and everyday.

Betty just keep in mind sweetie that a drinking problem and cancer are two complete different things. I always step back to the past about something that makes me mad, hate it when I do it too.

This message was edited Feb 3, 2011 12:23 PM

He had cancer Crissy, but he also had a drinking problem so between the 2 the likely hood that he'd live a long life was next to nil..yep, as hard as it is to live in the present sometimes we find ourselves back in the past.

With all of you talking new vehicles you make me want to go looking for one..nope, no can do, 1 more year with this little car..my thoughts are getting the same, cheap on gas and boy can I load that car!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Just make sure you don't sign a lease for a new car Betty.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL, no, I'll be certain NOT to do that..sure was in a panick.

The sun was so strong today although freezing out that I decided to go to the Garden Gallery, just my luck I had a camera...wanted to buy sooo many things..did purchase few items for swaps thought..

Want to join me in thoughts of spring? Here's a few photo's..
